¹⁹ And are confident that you yourself are a guide to the blind, a light for those who are in darkness,

¹⁶ The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light; and to those who sat in the region and shadow of death, a light has sprung up.

¹⁴ You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.

²³ But if your eye is bad, your whole body shall be full of darkness. Therefore, if the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

¹⁴ Let them alone: they are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.

¹⁶ Woe to you, blind guides, who say, Whoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor! ¹⁷ You blind fools: which is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifies the gold? ¹⁸ And, Whoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is upon it, he is obligated. ¹⁹ You blind fools: which is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifies the gift? ²⁰ Therefore, whoever shall swear by the altar, swears by it, and by all things on it. ²¹ And whoever shall swear by the temple, swears by it, and by him who dwells in it. ²² And he who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God, and by him who sits on it. ²³ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you tithe mint and dill and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, justice, mercy, and faithfulness: these you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone. ²⁴ You blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel. ²⁵ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and self-indulgence. ²⁶ You blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.

¹⁵ Truly I say to you, Whoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall not enter it at all.

⁷⁹ To give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

⁴⁶ The officers answered, Never did a man speak like this man. ⁴⁷ Then the Pharisees answered them, Are you also deceived? ⁴⁸ Have any of the rulers or the Pharisees believed in him? ⁴⁹ But this crowd, which does not know the law, is cursed.

³⁴ They answered and said to him, You were born in utter sin, and do you teach us? And they cast him out.

⁴⁰ And some of the Pharisees who were with him heard these words, and said to him, Are we blind also? ⁴¹ Jesus said to them, If you were blind, you would have no sin: but now you say, We see; therefore your sin remains.

¹⁸ To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and an inheritance along with those who are sanctified by faith in me.

¹⁸ Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you thinks he is wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.

¹⁰ We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ; we are weak, but you are strong; you are honoured, but we are despised.

¹ Now regarding things offered to idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. ² And if any man thinks that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know.

¹⁵ That you may be blameless and innocent, the children of God, without blemish, in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world;

¹⁷ For you say, I am rich, and have grown wealthy, and have need of nothing; but you do not know that you are wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked. ¹⁸ I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white clothing, that you may be clothed, and that the shame of your nakedness may not appear; and salve to anoint your eyes, that you may see.
