The first said to him, I have bought a piece of land, and I must go and see it: Please excuse me. ¹⁹ And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to try them out: Please excuse me. ²⁰ And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.

²⁶ As it was in the days of Noah, so it shall also be in the days of the Son of man. ²⁷ They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. ²⁸ It was the same in the days of Lot; they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built;

³⁴ And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be weighed down with dissipation, and drunkenness, and the cares of this life, so that day comes upon you unexpectedly like a snare.

¹³ Let us conduct ourselves properly, as in the day; not in carousing and drunkenness, not in debauchery and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy. ¹⁴ But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its lusts.

²⁹ But this I say, brethren, the time is short: from now on let those who have wives be as though they had none; ³⁰ And those who weep, as though they did not weep; and those who rejoice, as though they did not rejoice; and those who buy, as though they did not possess; ³¹ And those who use this world, as though not engrossed in it: for the form of this world passes away.
