⁸ Therefore, bring forth fruit in keeping with repentance: ⁹ And do not think to say to yourselves, We have Abraham as our father: for I say to you, that God is able from these stones to raise up children to Abraham. ¹⁰ And now the axe is laid to the root of the trees: therefore every tree which does not bring forth good fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire.

As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine; neither can you, unless you abide in me. ⁵ I am the vine, you are the branches: He who abides in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit: for without me you can do nothing. ⁶ If a man does not abide in me, he is thrown away as a branch, and withers; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. ⁷ If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it shall be done for you.

¹² Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olives? or a vine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring yield fresh water.

⁸ Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
