⁴⁹ And behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but stay in the city, until you are clothed with power from on high.

¹⁶ And I will pray to the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever; ¹⁷ That is the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see him, neither does it know him: but you know him; for he dwells with you, and shall be in you.

²⁶ But the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatever I have said to you.

²⁶ But when the Comforter comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he shall testify of me:

⁷ Nevertheless, I tell you the truth; It is for your good that I go away: for if I do not go away, the Comforter will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send him to you. ⁸ And when he has come, he will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: ⁹ Of sin, because they do not believe in me; ¹⁰ Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and you will see me no more; ¹¹ Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. ¹² I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. ¹³ Yet when he, the Spirit of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of his own accord; but whatever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come. ¹⁴ He shall glorify me: for he shall take what is mine, and shall show it to you. ¹⁵ All things that the Father has are mine: therefore I said that he shall take what is mine, and shall show it to you. ¹⁶ In a little while you shall not see me: and again, in a little while, you shall see me.

⁴ And, while eating with them, commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, of which, he said, you have heard me speak.

⁸ But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you: and you shall be witnesses to me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and to the remotest part of the earth.

¹ And when the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. ² And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. ³ And there appeared to them tongues, as of fire, which separated and came to rest upon each of them. ⁴ And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. ⁵ And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. ⁶ Now when this sound was heard, the multitude came together, and were bewildered, because every one heard them speak in his own language. ⁷ And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these who speak Galilaeans? ⁸ And how is it we each hear them in our own tongue, in the language to which we were born? ⁹ Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, ¹⁰ Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya around Cyrene, and strangers from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, ¹¹ Cretans and Arabs, we hear them speak in our tongues of the mighty works of God. ¹² And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What does this mean? ¹³ Others said mockingly, These men are full of new wine. ¹⁴ But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said to them, You men of Judaea, and all you who live in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to my words: ¹⁵ For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is only the third hour of the day. ¹⁶ But this is that which was spoken of by the prophet Joel; ¹⁷ And it shall come to pass in the last days, declares God, That I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: ¹⁸ And in those days I will pour out my Spirit on my menservants and on my maidservants; and they shall prophesy: ¹⁹ And I will show wonders in heaven above, and signs on the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: ²⁰ The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and glorious day of the Lord shall come: ²¹ And it shall come to pass, that whoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
