³⁹ And the Lord said to him, Now you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and the platter; but inside you are full of greed and wickedness.

¹⁵ Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

³³ Either make the tree good, and its fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and its fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by its fruit. ³⁴ You brood of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. ³⁵ A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things: and an evil man out of his evil treasure brings forth evil things.

¹⁹ For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual immorality, thefts, false witness, slanders:

²⁵ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and self-indulgence. ²⁶ You blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.

¹³ And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said to her, Do not weep.

¹⁵ And he said to them, You justify yourselves before men; but God knows your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God.

⁶ He said this, not because he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the money box, and stole what was put in it.

² It was during supper, and the devil had already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray Jesus.

³ But Peter said, Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

²¹ You have no part or portion in this matter: for your heart is not right in the sight of God. ²² Therefore, repent of this wickedness, and pray to God, that perhaps the intent of your heart may be forgiven you. ²³ For I perceive that you are full of bitterness, and in the bondage of iniquity.

¹⁴ And advanced in Judaism beyond many Jews of my age, being more exceedingly zealous for the traditions of my fathers.

⁵ Holding to a form of godliness, but denying its power. From such men turn away.

¹⁵ To the pure all things are pure: but to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure; but both their minds and consciences are defiled.

⁸ Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
