¹⁴ But if you have bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth.

²³ You who make your boast in the law, do you dishonour God by breaking the law? ²⁴ For as it is written, The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you. ²⁵ For circumcision is truly of value, if you keep the law: but if you are a breaker of the law, your circumcision has becomes uncircumcision. ²⁶ Therefore, if the uncircumcised keeps the requirements of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted as circumcision? ²⁷ And shall not the physically uncircumcised, if he keeps the law, judge you, who, though you have the letter of the law and circumcision, are transgressors of the law? ²⁸ For he is not a Jew, who is one outwardly; neither is circumcision that which is outward in the flesh: ²⁹ But he is a Jew, who is one inwardly; and circumcision is of the heart, by the spirit, and not by the letter; and his praise is not from men, but from God.

¹³ Let us conduct ourselves properly, as in the day; not in carousing and drunkenness, not in debauchery and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy.

³ For you are still fleshly: for while there is among you envy, and strife, are you not fleshly, and walking as mere men?

⁷ For who makes you superior to another? and what do you have that you did not receive? now if you did receive it, why do you boast, as if you had not received it? ⁸ Already you are full, already you are rich, you have become as kings without us: and I would that you had become kings, that we might also reign with you.

² And you are puffed up, and have not mourned instead. Let him who has done this deed be removed from among you.

⁶ Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump?

⁴ Love is patient, and is kind; love does not envy; love does not boast, and is not arrogant;

²⁰ For I fear that when I come, I shall not find you as I wish, and you shall not find me to be as you wish; lest perhaps there may be quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of wrath, rivalries, slander, gossip, conceit, disorder:

¹⁵ But if you bite and devour one another, take heed that you are not consumed by one another.

²¹ Envy, drunkenness, orgies, and the like: of which I forewarn you, as I have also warned you in the past, that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

²⁶ Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying one another.

¹³ For not even those who are circumcised keep the law; but they desire to have you circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh.

¹⁵ Some indeed preach Christ from envy and rivalry; and some also from good will;

³ Let nothing be done through selfishness or vain conceit; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem the others as better than himself.

⁴ He is proud, knowing nothing, but has an unhealthy craving for controversy and disputes about words, from which come envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions,

³ For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, deceived, slaves to various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy; hated, and hating one another.

¹⁶ For where there is envy and selfish ambition, there is confusion and every evil work.

¹ What causes strife and quarrels among you? do they not come from your passions, which are at war in your members? ² You covet, and do not have, so you kill; and envy, and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask. ³ You ask, and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it upon your pleasures. ⁴ You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? whoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. ⁵ Do you think that the scripture speaks in vain when it says, The spirit he made to dwell in us tends toward envious desires?

¹⁹ Brethren, if any of you strays from the truth, and someone brings him back;

¹ Therefore, laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisy, and envy, and all kinds of slander, ² As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow by it in your salvation:
