¹⁴ For those who say such things declare plainly that they seek a country of their own.

²³ And not only the creation, but ourselves as well, who have the first-fruits of the Spirit, even we groan within ourselves, waiting for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. ²⁴ For we are saved by this hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what man hopes for what he sees? ²⁵ But if we hope for what we do not see, then we wait for it with patience.

¹⁸ So we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.

²³ For I am hard-pressed between the two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:

¹⁶ Instead, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he has prepared for them a city.

¹⁴ For here we do not have an enduring city, but we seek the one which is to come.
