⁵² Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? and they killed those who told beforehand of the coming of the Righteous One; whom you have now betrayed and murdered:

¹² Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

³⁵ And the tenants took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another. ³⁶ Again, he sent other servants, more than the first: and they did the same to them. ³⁷ But last of all he sent to them his son, saying, They will respect my son. ³⁸ But when the tenants saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize his inheritance. ³⁹ And they took him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. ⁴⁰ Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants? ⁴¹ They said to him, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard to other tenants, who shall give him the fruits in their seasons.

³¹ Therefore you are witnesses against yourselves, that you are the sons of those who killed the prophets. ³² Fill up, then, the measure of the sins of your fathers. ³³ You serpents, you generation of vipers, how can you escape being condemned to hell? ³⁴ Therefore, behold, I send to you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them you shall kill and crucify; and some of them you shall scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city: ³⁵ That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Berachiah, whom you killed between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Truly I say to you, All these things shall come upon this generation. ³⁷ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets, and stone those who are sent to you, how often would I have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not let me!

⁴⁷ Woe to you! for you build the tombs of the prophets, and your fathers killed them. ⁴⁸ Truly you bear witness that you approve of the deeds of your fathers: for they killed them, and you build their tombs. ⁴⁹ For this reason also the wisdom of God said, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall kill and persecute, ⁵⁰ That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation; ⁵¹ From the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the temple: truly I say to you, It shall be required of this generation.

³³ Nevertheless, I must journey on today, and tomorrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet should perish outside of Jerusalem. ³⁴ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which kills the prophets, and stones those who are sent to you; how often would I have gathered your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you would not allow it!

²³ This man, being delivered up by the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you have taken, and by the hands of wicked men have crucified and slain.

¹⁴ But you denied the Holy and Just One, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you; ¹⁵ And killed the Prince of life, whom God has raised from the dead. Of this we are witnesses.

¹⁸ But those things which God foretold by the mouths of all his prophets, that his Christ should suffer, he has fulfilled.

²⁴ Yea, and all the prophets, from Samuel and those who followed after, as many as have spoken, have foretold these days.

¹⁰ Then let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by him does this man stand here before you well.

²⁸ Did we not sternly command you that you should not teach in this name? and, behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and you intend to bring this man's blood upon us. ²⁹ Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men. ³⁰ The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you killed by hanging him on a tree.

¹⁴ And he said, The God of our fathers has chosen you to know his will, and to see the Just One, and to hear the voice of his mouth.

¹⁵ Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us. They do not please God, and oppose all men,

¹¹ Seeking to find to whom and when the Spirit of Christ within them was pointing, when he testified beforehand of the sufferings of Christ, and the glories that should follow.

¹ My little children, these things I write to you, that you may not sin. And if any man does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

⁷ And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These are the words of he who is holy, he who is true, he who has the key of David, he who opens, and no man shuts; and shuts, and no man opens;

¹⁰ And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said to me, Do not do that: I am a fellow servant with you and your brethren, who hold to the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
