¹⁸ And when they had come to him, he said to them, You yourselves know, from the first day that I came to Asia, in what manner I have lived among you at all times,

¹⁹ And he came to Ephesus, and left them there: but he entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews.

¹ And it came to pass, while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

¹⁰ And this continued for two years; so that all those who lived in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.

¹² For our boast is in this: the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have conducted ourselves in the world, and still more toward you.

³ We give no offence in anything, that the ministry may not be discredited: ⁴ But as the ministers of God we commend ourselves in all things; in much endurance, in afflictions, in hardships, in distress, ⁵ In beatings, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labours, in sleeplessness, in hunger; ⁶ By purity, by knowledge, by patience, by kindness, in the Holy Spirit, in unfeigned love, ⁷ By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the weapons of righteousness in the right hand and in the left, ⁸ In honour and dishonour, in evil report and good report: regarded as deceivers, and yet true; ⁹ As unknown, and yet well known; as dying, yet, behold, we live; as chastened, and yet not killed; ¹⁰ As sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things. ¹¹ O Corinthians, we have spoken freely to you, our hearts are open wide.

⁵ For our gospel came to you not in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit, and with full conviction. You know what manner of men we were among you for your sake. ⁶ And you became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word despite much affliction, with joy from the Holy Spirit:

¹ For you yourselves know, brethren, that our visit to you was not in vain: ² But even after we had already suffered, and were shamefully treated, as you know, in Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak to you the gospel of God despite much opposition. ³ For our exhortation does not spring from error, or impurity, or guile: ⁴ But just as we were approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, who tests our hearts. ⁵ For at no time did we use either flattering words, as you know, or a cloak for greed; as God is witness: ⁶ Nor did we seek glory from men, either from you or from others, when we might have asserted our authority, as the apostles of Christ. ⁷ But we were gentle among you, as a nursing mother cherishes her children: ⁸ So having a yearning affection for you, we were willing to impart to you, not only the gospel of God, but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us. ⁹ For you remember, brethren, our toil and hardship: we laboured night and day, because we did not want to burden any of you as we preached to you the gospel of God. ¹⁰ You are witnesses, and so is God, how holy and just and blameless was our behaviour toward you who believe:

⁷ For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us: for we were not idle among you; ⁸ Nor did we eat any man's bread without paying; but with labour and toil we worked night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you: ⁹ Not because we do not have the right, but to make ourselves an example for you to follow. ¹⁰ But you have fully known my teaching, manner of life, purpose, faith, patience, love, steadfastness,
