⁶ Thus Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: and you are her daughters, if you do right, and do not give way to fear.

⁶⁹ Now Peter sat outside in the courtyard: and a maid came to him, saying, You also were with Jesus of Galilee. ⁷⁰ But he denied it before them all, saying, I know not what your are saying. ⁷¹ And when he went out to the porch, another maid saw him, and said to those who were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth. ⁷² And again he denied it with an oath, I do not know the man. ⁷³ And after a while the bystanders came to him, and said to Peter, Surely you also are one of them; for your speech betrays you. ⁷⁴ Then he began to curse and to swear, saying, I do not know the man. And immediately the cock crowed. ⁷⁵ And Peter remembered the word Jesus said to him, Before the cock crows, you shall deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.

⁸ Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, You rulers of the people, and elders, ⁹ If we are to be examined this day about a good deed done to a cripple, by what means he was made well; ¹⁰ Then let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by him does this man stand here before you well. ¹¹ This is the stone which was rejected by you builders, but which has become the very cornerstone. ¹² And there is salvation in no one else: for there is no other name under heaven given among men, by which we must be saved. ¹³ Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they recognized that they had been with Jesus.

¹⁹ But Peter and John answered and said to them, Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, judge for yourselves.

⁷ Nor are they all the children of Abraham because they are descended from him: but, Through Isaac shall your descendants be named. ⁸ That is, It is not those who are the children of the flesh who are the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted as descendants. ⁹ For this is the word of the promise, At this time I will come, and Sarah shall have a son.

²² For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by a slave woman, the other by a free woman. ²³ He who was born by the slave woman was born according to the flesh; but the son born by the free woman was through the promise. ²⁴ These things are an allegory: for these women are the two covenants; the one from mount Sinai, who bears children into bondage; this is Hagar. ²⁵ For this Hagar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to the present Jerusalem, which is in bondage with her children. ²⁶ But the Jerusalem which is above is free, and she is our mother.

¹⁴ But even if you do suffer for righteousness' sake, you are blessed. And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled; ¹⁵ But set apart Christ as Lord in your hearts: and always be ready to give an answer to every man who asks you the reason for the hope that is in you; but do it with gentleness and respect,
