¹³ Therefore gird up your minds, be sober, and fix your hope fully on the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

³⁵ Be dressed and ready, and keep your lamps burning;

⁸ Will he not rather say to him, Make something for my supper, and gird yourself, and serve me until I eat and drink; and afterward you shall eat and drink?

³⁰ Even so shall it be on the day when the Son of man is revealed.

³⁴ And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be weighed down with dissipation, and drunkenness, and the cares of this life, so that day comes upon you unexpectedly like a snare. ³⁵ For as a snare shall it come upon all those who live on the face of the whole earth.

¹³ Let us conduct ourselves properly, as in the day; not in carousing and drunkenness, not in debauchery and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy.

⁴ For whatever things were written in the past were written for our instruction, that through endurance and the encouragement of the scriptures, we might have hope. ⁵ Now may the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in harmony with one another, according to Christ Jesus: ⁶ That you may with one heart and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁷ Therefore welcome one another, as Christ welcomed us to the glory of God. ⁸ Now I say that Christ became a minister to the circumcised for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made to the fathers: ⁹ And that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, For this cause I will praise you among the Gentiles, and sing to your name. ¹⁰ And again he says, Rejoice, you Gentiles, with his people. ¹¹ And again, Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles; and praise him, all you people. ¹² And again, Isaiah says, The root of Jesse shall come, and he shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles hope. ¹³ Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Spirit.

⁷ Therefore you lack no spiritual gift; as you await the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:

¹³ And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

¹⁴ Stand therefore, having your loins girded about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

⁶ Therefore let us not sleep, as others do; but let us watch and be sober. ⁷ For those who sleep, sleep in the night; and those who get drunk, get drunk in the night. ⁸ But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for a helmet, the hope of salvation.

⁷ And to give rest to you who are afflicted, along with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels in flaming fire,

⁵ But you, be steady in all things; endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

⁸ Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me on that day: and not only to me, but also to all those who have longed for his appearing.

¹¹ For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, ¹² Teaching us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires, and live sensibly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; ¹³ Looking for the blessed hope, the glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ;

⁶ But Christ was faithful as a son over his own house, whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence and our joyful hope.

¹⁹ This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, which enters within the veil;

²⁸ So Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many; shall appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring full salvation to those who eagerly await him.

³⁵ Therefore, do not cast away your confidence, which has a great reward.

³ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who by his abundant mercy has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, ⁴ To an imperishable and undefiled inheritance, that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, ⁵ Who are guarded by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. ⁶ In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a time you may have to suffer various trials: ⁷ That the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold, which perishes, though it is tested by fire, might be found to result in praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ. ⁸ Though you have not seen him, you love him; and though you do not see him now, yet you believe in him and rejoice with inexpressible and glorious joy: ⁹ Receiving the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

¹⁵ But set apart Christ as Lord in your hearts: and always be ready to give an answer to every man who asks you the reason for the hope that is in you; but do it with gentleness and respect,

⁷ But the end of all things is at hand: therefore be of sound mind and sober judgement for prayer.

⁸ Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, like a roaring lion, walks about, seeking someone he may devour.

³ And every man who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.
