²⁶ What then, brethren? when you come together, every one of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification.

¹⁹ Therefore, let us follow after the things which make for peace, and things which edify one another.

⁷ But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each man for the common good. ⁸ For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; ⁹ To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by that one Spirit; ¹⁰ To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another various kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

⁴ He who speaks in an unknown tongue edifies himself; but he who prophesies edifies the church. ⁵ I would like for you all to speak in tongues, but even more that you would prophesy: for greater is he who prophesies than he who speaks with tongues, unless he interprets, so that the church may be edified. ⁶ Now, brethren, if I come to you speaking with tongues, how will I benefit you, unless I shall speak to you some revelation, or knowledge, or prophesy, or instruction?

¹² So with you, since you are zealous for spiritual gifts, seek to excel in edifying the church. ¹³ Therefore, let him who speaks in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.

²⁷ If anyone speaks in an unknown tongue, let there be two, or at the most three, and each in turn; and let one interpret.

⁴⁰ But let all things be done decently and in order.

¹⁹ All this time have you been thinking that we are defending ourselves to you? we speak before God in Christ: but we do all things, dearly beloved, for your strengthening.

¹⁰ Therefore I write these things while absent, that when present I need not be severe in using the power which the Lord has given me for building up, and not for tearing down.

¹² For the equipping of the saints for the work of the ministry, for the building up of the body of Christ:

¹⁶ From whom the whole body, fitted and joined together by that which every joint supplies, according to the proper working of every part, causes the body to grow, for the building up of itself in love.

²⁹ Let no corrupt words proceed out of your mouth, but only that which is good for edifying, that it may impart grace to the hearers.

¹⁹ Speaking to one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

¹¹ Therefore, comfort one another, and build one another up, just as you are doing.
