³³ Hear another parable. There was a householder, who planted a vineyard, and set a hedge about it, and dug in it a winepress, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went abroad.

¹⁸ Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.

²⁸ But what think ye? A man had two sons: he came to the first, and said, Son, go, work today in the vineyard.

² saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in the seat of Moses.

¹⁴ For it will be as when a man going abroad called his own servants, and intrusted to them his property; ¹⁵ and to one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one, to each according to his ability, and went abroad.

¹ And he began to speak to them in parables: A man planted a vineyard, and set a hedge about it, and dug a winevat, and built a tower; and let it out to husbandmen, and went abroad. ² And at the season he sent to the husbandmen a servant, that he might receive from the husbandmen of the fruits of the vineyard. ³ And they took him, and beat him, and sent him away emptyhanded. ⁴ And again he sent to them another servant; and him they wounded in the head, and treated shamefully. ⁵ And he sent another; and him they killed; and many others, beating some, and killing some. ⁶ Still he had one beloved son; he sent him last to them, saying, They will respect my son. ⁷ But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours. ⁸ And they took him and killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard. ⁹ What will the lord of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard to others. ¹⁰ And have ye not read this scripture: "The stone which the builders rejected, the same hath become the cornerstone; ¹¹ from the Lord did this come, and it is marvelous in our eyes"? ¹² And they sought to seize him, but feared the multitude; for they knew that he spoke the parable against them. And they left him, and went away.

³⁴ As a man going abroad, having left his house and given authority to his servants, to each one his work, also commanded the porter to watch,

¹² He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.

⁹ And he began to speak to the people this parable: A man planted a vineyard, and let it out to husbandmen, and went abroad for a long time. ¹⁰ And at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard; but the husbandmen beat him, and sent him away emptyhanded. ¹¹ And he sent still another servant; and they beat him also, and treated him shamefully, and sent him away emptyhanded. ¹² And he went on to send a third; and they wounded him also, and cast him out. ¹³ And the lord of the vineyard said, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; perhaps they will respect him. ¹⁴ But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir; let us kill him, that the inheritance may become ours. ¹⁵ So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What then will the lord of the vineyard do to them? ¹⁶ He will come and destroy these husbandmen, and will give the vineyard to others. And when they heard this, they said, God forbid! ¹⁷ But he, looking upon them, said, What then is this which is written, "The stone which the builders rejected, the same hath become the cornerstone"? ¹⁸ Every one who falleth upon that stone will be broken; but on whomever it falleth, it will grind him to powder. ¹⁹ And the scribes and the chief priests sought to lay hands on him in that hour, but they feared the people; for they knew that he spoke this parable against them.

¹ I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
