³⁹ And the Pharisee who had invited him, when he saw this, said within himself, This man, if he were a prophet, would know who, and what sort of woman, this is that toucheth him; for she is a sinner.

¹² But when he heard that, he said, They who are well do not need a physician, but they who are sick. ¹³ But go ye and learn what this meaneth: "I desire mercy, and not sacrifice." For I came not to call righteous men, but sinners.

¹⁶ Thus the last will be first, and the first, last. And as

²⁸ But what think ye? A man had two sons: he came to the first, and said, Son, go, work today in the vineyard. ²⁹ And he answered and said, I will not. Afterward he repented, and went. ³⁰ And he came to the other and said the same. And he answered and said, I will, sir; and went not. ³¹ Which of the two did the will of his father? They say, The first. Jesus saith to them, Truly do I say to you, that the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.

⁶ But there were some of the scribes sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, ⁷ Why doth this man speak thus? He blasphemeth; who can forgive sins but God only?

²¹ For from within, out of the heart of men, come forth evil thoughts, fornications,

⁸ Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance; and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham for our father; for I say to you, that God is able out of these stones to raise up children to Abraham.

¹⁶ And fear seized on all, and they gave glory to God, saying, A great prophet hath risen up among us; and, God hath visited his people.

³⁷ And lo! a woman who was in the city, a sinner, learning that he was at table in the Pharisees house, brought an alabasterbottle of ointment,

¹⁷ And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do? for I have not where to store my crops.

² And the Pharisees and the scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them.

²⁸ But he was angry, and would not go in; and his father came out, and entreated him. ²⁹ And he answering said to his father, Lo! for so many years have I served thee, and never transgressed thy command; and yet to me thou never gavest a kid, that I might make merry with my friends. ³⁰ But as soon as this thy son came, who devoured thy living with harlots, thou didst kill for him the fatted calf.

³ Then the steward said within himself, What shall I do, now that my lord taketh away from me the stewardship? I cannot dig, I am ashamed to beg.

⁴ And he would not for some time. But afterward he said within himself, Though I neither fear God, nor regard man,

⁹ And to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised all others, he spoke this parable: ¹⁰ Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. ¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed by himself thus: O God, I thank thee that I am not as the rest of men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

¹⁹ The woman saith to him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.

¹² And there was much debating among the multitude concerning him. Some said, He is a good man; others said, Nay, but he deceiveth the multitude.

⁴⁰ Some of the multitude therefore, when they heard these words, said, This is in truth the prophet. Others said, This is the Christ. ⁴¹ Others said, Doth the Christ then come from Galilee?

⁴⁷ The Pharisees answered them, Have ye also been deceived? ⁴⁸ Hath any one of the rulers believed in him? or of the Pharisees? ⁴⁹ but this multitude that know not the Law are accursed. ⁵⁰ Nicodemus saith to them, being one of them, ⁵¹ Doth our law judge a man, unless it first hear from him, and know what he doeth? ⁵² They answered and said to him, Art thou too from Galilee? Search and see that no prophet ariseth from Galilee.

²⁴ They therefore called a second time the man that had been blind, and said to him, Give glory to God; we know that this man is a sinner.
