¹⁸ And all with one accord began to excuse themselves. The first said to him, I have bought a piece of land, and must needs go out and see it; I pray that I may be excused.

⁵ But they made light of it, and went away; one to his farm, another to his merchandise. ⁶ And the rest seized his servants, and illtreated and slew them.

³⁸ For as in the days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, ³⁹ and knew not, until the flood came, and took them all away, so also will be the coming of the Son of man.

⁹ But they who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. ¹⁰ For the love of money is a root of all evils; which some coveting have strayed away from the faith, and have pierced themselves through with many pangs.

⁴ and they will turn away their ears from the truth, and turn aside to fables.
