But even the dogs came and licked his sores. ²² And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to the bosom of Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried. ²³ And in the underworld he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. ²⁴ And he called and said, Father Abraham, have pity on me, and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. ²⁵ But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou didst receive thy good things in thy lifetime, and Lazarus in like manner his evil things; but now he is comforted here, and thou art tormented.

³¹ and they that use this world as not abusing it; for the outward condition of this world is passing away;

¹ Come now, ye rich men, weep and wail for your miseries that are coming upon you. ² Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are become motheaten; ³ your gold and silver is rusted, and the rust of them will be a witness against you, and will eat your flesh as fire; ye have heaped up treasure in the last days! ⁴ Behold, the hire of the laborers who reaped your fields, which is fraudulently kept back by you, crieth out; and the cries of those who reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Hosts. ⁵ Ye have lived in luxury on the earth, and have been given to pleasure; ye have pampered your hearts in a day of slaughter. ⁶ Ye have condemned, ye have killed the just man; he doth not resist you. ⁷ Be patient therefore, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and is patient about it, until it hath received the early and latter rain.

⁴ and when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye will receive the crown of glory that fadeth not away.
