¹³ Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope undoubtingly for the grace that is to be brought to you at the manifestation of Jesus Christ;

³⁵ Let your loins be girded about, and your lamps burning;

⁸ Will he not rather say to him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself and serve me till I have eaten and drunken, and afterward thou shalt eat and drink?

³⁰ Thus will it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.

³⁴ But take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be weighed down with surfeiting and drunkenness and worldly cares, and that day come upon you unawares. ³⁵ For as a snare will it come on all that dwell on the face of the whole earth.

¹³ Let us walk becomingly, as in the day; not in reveling and drunkenness, not in lewdness and wantonness, not in strife and envy;

⁴ For whatever things were written aforetime, were written for our instruction; that we through the patience and the consolation of the Scriptures might have hope. ⁵ And may the God of patience and consolation grant that ye may be of the same mind one with another, according to Christ Jesus; ⁶ that with one accord ye may with one mouth glorify God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁷ Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ received you to the glory of God. ⁸ For I say that Christ became a minister to the circumcised for the sake of Gods truth, in order to make sure the promises given to the fathers; ⁹ and that the gentiles glorified God for his mercy, as it is written, "For this cause I will give praise to thee among the gentiles, and sing to thy name." ¹⁰ And again he saith: "Rejoice, ye gentiles, with his people." ¹¹ And again: "Praise the Lord, all ye gentiles, and let every people praise him." ¹² And again Isaiah saith: "There shall be the shoot from Jesse, and he that riseth up to rule the gentiles; in him shall the gentiles hope." ¹³ And may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Spirit.

⁷ so that ye come behind in no gift, while waiting for the manifestation of our Lord Jesus Christ;

¹³ And now there abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

¹⁴ Stand therefore, having girded your loins with truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,

⁶ Let us not sleep, then, as others, but let us watch and be sober. ⁷ For they that sleep, sleep in the night; and they that are drunken, are drunken in the night; ⁸ but let us, as we are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation;

⁷ and to you the distressed rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be manifested from heaven, with the angels of his might,

⁵ But be thou watchful in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fully accomplish thy ministry.

⁸ henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me at that day, and not to me only, but to all those who have loved his appearing.

¹¹ For the grace of God, that bringeth salvation to all men, was manifested, ¹² teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in the present world; ¹³ looking for the blessed hope, and appearing of the glory of the great God and of our Saviour Jesus Christ;

⁶ but Christ as a son over his house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and joyousness of our hope.

¹⁹ which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, sure and steadfast, and which entereth within the veil;

²⁸ so also Christ having been once offered up to bear the sins of many, will appear the second time, without sin, for the salvation of those who are waiting for him.

³⁵ Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward.

³ Blessed be God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who, according to his abundant mercy, begot us again into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, ⁴ to an inheritance imperishable, and undefiled, and unfading, reserved in heaven for you, ⁵ who are guarded by the power of God through faith unto a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time; ⁶ wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a short time, if need be, made sorrowful by manifold trials, ⁷ that the proof of your faith, much more precious than gold which perisheth, but is tried with fire, may be found unto praise and glory and honor at the manifestation of Jesus Christ; ⁸ whom, having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory, ⁹ receiving the end of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

¹⁵ but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts. And be ready always to give an answer to every one that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you, but with meekness and fear;

⁷ But the end of all things is at hand; be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.

⁸ Be sober, be watchful. Your adversary the Devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour;

³ And every one that hath this hope in Him purifieth himself, even as He is pure.
