⁷ For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. Today hear His voice!

² »Jehovah is my strong defender. He is the one who has saved me. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will sing about his greatness.

¹ ([Psalm of Asaph]) God, why have you rejected us forever? Why do you smoke with anger against the sheep of your pasture?

¹³ Your people, the flock in your pasture, will thank you forever. We will praise you throughout all generations.

³ Know that Jehovah is God. He has made us, and not we ourselves. We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

³ Our God is in heaven. He does whatever he pleases.

⁶ »Listen for I speak of excellent things. The truth comes from my lips.

³ Give ear and come to me; listen to me, that you may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David.

¹⁰ See the Sovereign Lord Jehovah comes with power. His arm (power) rules for him. See, his reward is with him and his recompense accompanies him. ¹¹ He tends his flock like a shepherd. He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart. He gently leads those that have young.

³³ »This is the covenant (agreement) that I will make with Israel after those days,« declares Jehovah. »I will put my teachings (Law) inside them. I will write those teachings (Law) on their hearts (inner man) (mind) (will) (conscience) (understanding). I will be their God, and they will be my people.«

³⁰ ‘Then they will know that Jehovah their God is with them. They will know that the people of Israel are my people,’ proclaims the Lord Jehovah.«’ ³¹ »‘You are my sheep, the sheep in my pasture. You are mortal, and I am your God,’ declares the Lord Jehovah.«

² »Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.« ³ Isaiah spoke of John when he said: »He is a voice shouting in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of Jehovah. Make his paths straight.’« (Isaiah 40:3)

⁵ While he was still speaking, a bright cloud overshadowed them. A voice came out of the cloud, saying: »This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him.«

³ »The doorkeeper opens to him and the sheep hear his voice. He calls his sheep by name and leads them. ⁴ »When all of his own are out he leads them. The sheep follow him for they know his voice.

¹⁴ »I am the good shepherd. I know my own, and my own know me. ¹⁵ Just as the Father knows me I know the Father! I lay down my life for the sheep. ¹⁶ »I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I will also bring them. They will hear my voice and they will become one flock, one shepherd.

⁷ The Holy Spirit says: »Today if you will hear his voice, ⁸ »do not harden your hearts and be stubborn like those who tested me in the day of temptation in the wilderness. ⁹ »Your forefathers examined (inspected) (scrutinized) me by proving (testing) me. And they saw my works for forty years. ¹⁰ »I was disgusted (angry) with this generation, and said: ‘They always go astray in their hearts, and they have not known my ways.’ ¹¹ »So I swore in my anger: ‘They will not enter into my rest.’«

¹³ Encourage yourselves each day, as long as it is called »Today,« that none of you be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.

¹⁵ Scripture says: »Today if you will hear his voice, do not harden your hearts. Do not be stubborn like those who rebelled.«

⁷ He determines a certain day by saying through David: »Today,« after so long a time; just as it was said before, »Today, if you will listen to his voice, do not harden your hearts.« (Psalm 95:7)

¹⁶ They desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Because of this, God is not ashamed to be called their God. He has prepared a city for them!

²⁵ For you were straying like sheep. But now you have returned to your shepherd and overseer.

²⁰ »'Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hears my voice, and opens the door, I will come in to him, and dine with him, and he with me.
