⁵ He established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel. This he commanded our fathers that they should teach them to their children,

¹⁹ »I have chosen him, that he may command his children and his household; and that they may remain in the righteous and just way of Jehovah. Jehovah will bring to Abraham what he told him.«

²⁰ He took the words of God’s promise (covenant) and put them in the ark. He put the poles on the ark and placed the throne of mercy on top of the ark.

⁷ »Carefully teach them to your sons. Talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way. Speak about them when you lie down, and when you rise up.

¹⁹ »Teach them to your children! Talk about them in your home and away. Speak of them when you lie down or get up.

⁴⁵ After they came out of Egypt they were in the valley east of the Jordan River he gave them the laws.

⁷ The law of Jehovah is perfect. It gives new life. The testimony of Jehovah is dependable. It makes the simple wise.

³ That we have heard and known and our fathers have told us. ⁴ We will not conceal them from their children, but tell to the generation to come the praises of Jehovah, and his strength and his wondrous works that he has done.

⁵ He established it for a testimony in Joseph (Israel) when he went throughout the land of Egypt. I heard a language that I did not understand. He said:

¹⁵² Of old I have known from your laws that you have founded them forever.

¹⁹ He speaks his word to Jacob, his laws and judgments to Israel.

²⁰ They should go to the teachings and to the written instructions. If people do not speak these words, it is because there is no light (truth) in them.

¹⁹ »The living, yes the living praise you, as I am doing today! Fathers tell their children about your faithfulness.

² Much in every way. First they were entrusted with the oracles of God.

⁴ Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger but nurture them in the discipline and instruction of God.

⁹ If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater. The witness of God is this, that he gave witness concerning his Son. ¹⁰ He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in him. He who does not believe God made him a liar because he does not believe the testimony God gives concerning his Son. ¹¹ The testimony is this that God gave us everlasting life and this life is in his Son. ¹² He who has the Son has the life. He who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.
