⁶ You wage war with the help of wise guidance. There is victory in a multitude of counselors.

¹⁴ The people fall where there is no counsel. Yes, the people fall but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.

²² Without counsel plans fail. But in the multitude of counselors they are established.

¹⁸ Good counsel makes for good plans. Seek good counsel if you wage war.

³¹ »When a king commands ten thousand men to fight another king who comes against him with twenty thousand men, he will sit down first and decide if he is strong enough to defeat the other king.

²⁵ Every man taking part in the contest is temperate in all things. They do it to obtain a corruptible crown but we do it to receive an incorruptible crown. ²⁶ I do not run without definite aim (purpose) and I do not fight like a man beating the air. ²⁷ But I discipline my body, and bring it into subjection, so that after I have preached to others I will not be disqualified.

¹⁰ Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in his mighty strength. ¹¹ Put on the full armor (every implement) of God, that you may be able to stand against the cunning (inventive) (clever) methods of the devil. ¹² Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in heavenly places. ¹³ For that reason, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, having done everything, to stand firm. ¹⁴ Stand firm therefore and gird your loins with truth. Put on the breastplate of righteousness. ¹⁵ Shod your feet with the preparation of the good news of peace. ¹⁶ Also take up the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the evil one. ¹⁷ Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. ¹⁸ With prayer and supplication pray at all times in the Spirit. Watch with all perseverance and supplication for all the holy ones. ¹⁹ Pray on my behalf, that ability to speak may be given to me, to make known with boldness the secret of the good news. ²⁰ I am an ambassador in chains who should speak boldly.

¹¹ But you, O man of God, run from these things. Pursue (set your heart on) righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience and meekness. ¹² Fight the good fight of the faith! Lay hold on everlasting life! You were called and confessed the good confession in the sight of many witnesses.
