⁴ »How then can a man be righteous before God? How can one born of woman be pure?

¹ ([Psalm of David]) The fool says in his heart: »There is no God (Jehovah) (Psalm 10:4).« They are corrupt. They do disgusting things. No one does good things.

³ Everyone has turned away. Together they have become rotten to the core. No one, not even one person, does good things.

² No, in your heart you plot unrighteousness. You measure out the violence of your hands on the earth. ³ The wicked go astray from the womb. They are wayward as soon as they are born. They speak lies.

¹ ([Psalm of David]) The fool has said in his heart: »There is no God (Jehovah)*.« They are corrupt and have done abominable (detestable) iniquity. There are none who do good. (*Possible deliberate scribal change from YHWH to Elohim)

³ Every one of them has gone back: they are totally corrupted (filthy). None do good, no, not one.

²³ Guard your heart with all diligence for out of it come the source of life.

²⁵ Jehovah will destroy the house of the proud and he will establish the border of the widow.

⁷ Their feet run to do evil. They hurry to shed innocent blood. Their thoughts are evil. Ruin and destruction are on their highways.

¹⁴ »O Jerusalem, wash the evil from your heart so that you may be saved. How long will your wicked thoughts lodge within you?

⁹ »The heart is more deceitful than all else and is desperately corrupt. Who can understand it?

¹⁰ »The Lord Jehovah says: ‘It will come about on that day, that thoughts will come into your mind and you will devise an evil plan.

⁴ Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said: »Why are your thoughts evil?

²⁵ »Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You cleanse the outside of the cup and of the platter, yet the inside is full of extortion and excess. ²⁶ »You are blind. Clean the inside of the cup and platter first. Then clean the outside. ²⁷ »Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs that appear beautiful on the outside. They are full of dead men’s bones and uncleanness on the inside. ²⁸ »You appear righteous to men. However, inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.

¹⁹ »Evil thoughts come from the heart! Thoughts about murder, adultery, fornication, theft, lying, and slander come from the heart!

¹⁵ Jesus said: »You make yourselves look righteous to other people. God knows your hearts. The things considered of great value by people are worth nothing in God’s sight.

⁴ While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your power? Why did you conceive this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men, but to God.«

²² »Repent of this wickedness, and pray to God, that the thought in your heart may be forgiven you.

⁵ When we were in the flesh, the sinful passions, which were through the law, worked in our members to bring forth fruit to death.

⁸ But sin, finding occasion, worked out in me through the commandment all manner of coveting. Apart from the law sin is dead.

⁷ This is because the mind of the flesh is hostile toward God. It is not subject to the law of God for it cannot be. ⁸ Those influenced by the sinful flesh cannot please God.

¹⁹ Now the works of the flesh (sinful human nature) are apparent. They are: fornication, uncleanness, loose conduct, ²⁰ idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, wrath, contentions, divisions, sects, ²¹ envies, drunkenness, revelries, and things like these. I forewarn you, even as I did forewarn you, that those who practice such things would not inherit the kingdom of God.

³ For we also once were foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another.

¹⁴ Each man is tempted when he is drawn away by his evil desire (lust). He is enticed (allured). ¹⁵ Then evil desires, when conceived, give birth to sin: and the sin, when it is full grown, brings forth death.

⁴ Do not make distinctions among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts.

¹ What causes wars and fighting among you? Is the cause of fighting your sensual lusts for pleasure that battle within you? ² You lust, and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain! You fight and war. You do not have because you do not ask. ³ You ask and do not receive because you ask wrongly (with bad motives) that you may spend it on your pleasures.

² From now on you must live the rest of your earthly lives controlled by God’s will and not by human desires (lusts). ³ You have spent enough time in the past doing what unbelievers like to do. Your lives were spent in indecency, lusts, drunkenness, orgies, drinking parties, and the disgusting worship of idols (false gods).
