⁴⁵ They did not understand what he said. The meaning was concealed from them. They could not comprehend it. And they were afraid to ask him about it.

²² Peter protested and rebuked Jesus. He said: »Do not think of that, Lord; it will never happen to you.«

¹⁶ They reasoned with one another saying: »We have no bread.« ¹⁷ Hearing this Jesus said: »Why do you reason about having no bread? Do you not understand? Are your hearts dull of understanding? ¹⁸ »Having eyes, do you not see? Having ears, do you not hear? And do you not remember?

³² Jesus spoke openly about this. Peter took him aside and rebuked him. ³³ He turned around and looked at his disciples. Then he rebuked Peter saying: »Get behind me Satan for you do not pay attention to the things of God. You tend to the things of men.«

³⁴ The crowd answered him: »We have heard from the law that the Christ lives forever. Why do you say the Son of man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of man?«

⁵ Thomas said to him: »Lord, we do not know where you go. How do we know the way?«

¹⁶ His disciples did not understand these things at first. However when Jesus was glorified they remembered the things that were written about him. They also remembered the things that had been done to him.

¹⁷ Some of his disciples said to one another: »What is this he says, a little while, and you see me no more and again a little while and you will see me because I go to the Father? ¹⁸ »What is this that he says: A little while? We do not know what he says.«

¹⁴ Their minds were blinded. Until this day the same veil remains at the reading of the old covenant. It is not revealed to them that Christ voided it. ¹⁵ But to this day, whenever Moses is read, a veil lies upon their heart. ¹⁶ When one turns to God, the veil is taken away.
