⁴ When they were gathered together he charged them not to depart from Jerusalem. They were to wait for the promise of the Father that he spoke about.

⁸ »You will receive power, when the Holy Spirit comes on you and you will be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.«

¹ When the day of Pentecost came, they were all with one accord in one place. ² Suddenly there came a sound from heaven like a rushing mighty wind. It filled the house where they were sitting. ³ Tongues of fire that sat on each of them appeared. ⁴ They were all filled with the Holy Spirit. They said to each other: »Behold, are not all these that speak Galileans?« ⁸ »How do we each hear them in our own language? ⁹ »Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, ¹⁰ »Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, ¹¹ »Cretes and Arabians, we hear them speak in our language the wonderful works of God.« ¹² And they were all amazed and were in doubt. They asked each other: »What does this mean?« ¹³ Others mockingly said: »These men are full of new wine.« ¹⁴ But Peter, stood up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said to them: »You men of Judea, and all you who dwell at Jerusalem let me explain this to you.
