¹² In that day Jehovah God of Hosts called to weeping and mourning, to baldness and putting on sackcloth. ¹³ Instead there was joy and festivity, killing oxen and slaughtering sheep, eating meat and drinking wine. »Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.« ¹⁴ Jehovah of Hosts has disclosed himself in my ears: »Surely this iniquity will not be forgiven you until you die,« says Jehovah of Hosts.

⁷ The new wine mourns, the vine decays and the merry-hearted sigh. ⁸ The joyful sound of tambourines ceases. The noise of revelers and the delight of the harp cease. ⁹ They no longer drink wine with a song. The beverage is bitter to its drinkers.

³⁰ »That is why you will prophecy all these things to them and say: Jehovah roars from above. He thunders from his holy dwelling place. He roars against his land. He shouts like those who stomp grapes. He shouts against all those who live on earth.

You eat the the best lambs out of the flock and the fattest calves out of the stall. ⁵ »You sing idle songs to the sound of the harp and like David you improvise on musical instruments. ⁶ »You drink wine in bowls, and anoint yourselves with the finest oils. But you are not grieved because of the affliction of Joseph.

¹⁹ »I will say to my self: ‘You have many possessions saved for many years. Take it easy and eat, drink and be merry.’ ²⁰ »But God said to him: ‘You fool this night you will give up your life. Then who will have all these things you accumulated?’
