¹⁰ Then in that day the nations will search for and turn to the root of Jesse. He will stand as a signal for the peoples. His resting place will be glorious.

¹⁰ »The royal scepter shall not depart from Judah. His descendants will always rule. Nations will bring him tribute and bow in obedience before him. This, until Shiloh comes and all will obey him.

¹ He who lives under the shelter of the Most High will remain in the shadow of the Almighty.

⁴ He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge. His truth is your shield and armor.

⁷ I will be at peace again because Jehovah has been good to you.

⁵ Let God-like ones triumph in glory. Let them sing for joy on their beds.

¹¹ The arrogant people will be humbled. High and mighty people will be brought down. On that day Jehovah alone will be exalted.

³ When that day comes, Jehovah will give you relief from your pain and suffering, from the hard slavery you were forced to do.

¹² He said: »This is the rest with which you may cause the weary to rest, and, this is the refreshing.« Yet they would not listen.

¹⁷ An act of righteousness will bring about peace and security forever. ¹⁸ My people will live in a peaceful place, in safe homes and quiet places of rest.

¹ There must go forth a twig out of the stump of Jesse. A branch (sprout) (shoot) (descendant) from his roots will bear fruit.

²² »Behold, I will lift up my hand to the nations,« said Jehovah. »I will set up my standard for the peoples. They will bring your sons and your daughters in their bosom and carried on their shoulders.

¹⁹ The people from the sunset (the west) will respect the name of Jehovah. Those from the rising of the sun (the east) will reverence his glory. He will come like a rushing stream that the Spirit (wind) (breath) of Jehovah drives.

³ »Nations will come to your light. Kings will come to the brightness of your illumination.

⁵ »Then you will see this and rejoice. Your heart will shake with joy. The riches of the sea will be brought to you. The wealth of the nations will come to you.

¹⁰ »All who love Jerusalem, be happy and rejoice with her. All who mourn for her be glad with her. ¹¹ »You will nurse and be satisfied from her comforting breasts. You will nurse and be satisfied at her full breasts.« ¹² This is what Jehovah says: »I will offer you peace like a river and the wealth of the nations like an overflowing stream. You will nurse and be carried in Jerusalem's arms and cuddled on her knees.

¹⁹ »I will set up a sign among them and send some of their survivors to the nations: to Tarshish, Put and Lud, Meshech, Rosh, Tubal, Javan, and to the distant coastlands who have not heard of my fame or seen my glory. They will tell about my glory among the nations.

¹⁶ Jehovah says: »Stand by the way [of life] and see and ask for the ancient paths. Walk in the good way and you will find rest.« But you said: »We will not walk in it!«

⁹ »The glory of this house will be greater than it was before. I will give my people peace.« Jehovah of Hosts has spoken.

¹ Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea during the reign of King Herod. Astrologers arrived in Jerusalem from the east. ² They asked: »Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star in the east and came to offer him praise.«

¹¹ »I tell you, many will come from the east and the west, to sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven:

²⁸ »Come unto me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. ²⁹ »Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me. I am meek (mild) and humble in heart. You will have a restful life, ³⁰ »for my yoke is easy and my burden is light.«

⁹ That the nations might glorify God for his mercy as it is written: »For this cause I will confess you to the people of the nations, and sing to your name.« ¹⁰ And again he says: »Rejoice, you nations, with his people.« (Deuteronomy 32:43) ¹¹ And again: »Praise Jehovah, all you nations; and laud him, all you people.« (Psalm 117:1) ¹² And again, Isaiah says: »Then in that day the nations will search for and turn to the root of Jesse. He will stand as a signal for the peoples. His resting place will be glorious.« (Isaiah 11:10)

⁷ You who are afflicted rest with us at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with the angels of his power in flaming fire. ⁸ They will render vengeance to those who do not know God, and to those who do not obey the good news of our Lord Jesus. ⁹ They will suffer punishment, even eternal destruction from the Lord and from the glory of his might. ¹⁰ He will then come to be glorified in his holy ones, and to be marveled at by all those who believed, because our testimony to you was believed. ¹¹ We pray always for you, that our God may count you worthy of your calling, and fulfill every desire of goodness and every work of faith with power. ¹² May the name of our Lord Jesus be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

¹ While the promise of entering his rest remains, let us fear that one of you might come up short and not enter.

⁹ There remains then a Sabbath rest for the people of God. ¹⁰ He who enters into his rest also rests from his own works, just as God did from his. ¹¹ Let us do our utmost to enter into that rest. Let no one fall into the same pattern of disobedience by not obeying the word. ¹² The Word of God is alive and active and sharper than any two-edged sword. (Ephesians 6:17) It separates the physical person from the spiritual person, of both joints and marrow. And it can discern (judge) the thoughts and intentions of the heart. (John 12:48) ¹³ Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. All things are uncovered and laid bare before him. We must account to him. (Romans 2:16; 14:12) ¹⁴ We have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, so let us hold fast our confession. ¹⁵ We do not have a high priest who is not able to sympathize with our infirmities (weaknesses). He was tested in all things like ourselves. Yet he was without sin! ¹⁶ Let us approach the throne of grace (loving-kindness) with confidence, that we may receive mercy, and find grace for help in time of need.

⁷ The proof of your faith is more precious than gold that perishes. Though it is tested by fire, it may be found in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. ⁸ You love him without seeing him. Though you do not see him, you believe in him. Full of glory, you rejoice greatly with indescribable joy. ⁹ You receive your salvation as the outcome of your faith.

¹⁰ After you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will perfect, establish, and strengthen you.

¹⁶ »'I Jesus have sent my angel to tell you about these things in the congregations. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.'«
