²⁹ Jacob said: »Please tell me your name.« The man answered: »Why do you ask for my name?« Then he blessed Jacob there.

²⁸ »May God give you of the dew of heaven, the fatness of the earth, and an abundance of grain and new wine. ²⁹ »May peoples serve you. And nations bow down to you. Be master of your brothers. And may your mother’s sons bow down to you. Cursed be those who curse you. Blessed be those who bless you.«

³ »Almighty God will bless your marriage and give you many children. You will become the father of many nations! ⁴ »He will bless you and your descendants as he blessed Abraham. You may take possession of this land, in which you have lived and which God gave to Abraham!«

¹³ Jehovah was standing above the stairway. He proclaimed: »I am Jehovah, the God of your grandfather Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give the land on which you are lying to you and your descendants. ¹⁴ »Your descendants will be like the dust on the earth. You will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. Every family on earth will be blessed through you and through your descendants.

²⁶ He said to him: »Let me go now, for the dawn is near.« But Jacob said: »I will not let you go till you have given me your blessing.« ²⁷ Then he asked: »What is your name?« And he said, »Jacob.«

²⁹ »Some secret things are hidden. They belong to Jehovah our God. The things that have been revealed in these teachings belong to us and to our children forever. We must obey every word of this Law.

¹⁶ The angel replied: »If I stay I will not eat your food. But if you want to prepare it, burn it as an offering to Jehovah.« ¹⁷ Manoah replied: »Tell us your name. We want to honor you when your words come true.« ¹⁸ The angel asked: »Why do you want to know my name? It is ‘Wonderful.’« (Isaiah 9:6)

⁷ »Can you fathom the mysteries of God? Can you probe the limits of the Almighty?

⁴ Who ascended up into heaven, or descended? Who gathered the wind in his hands? Who bound the waters in a garment? Who established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is his son's name, if you can tell me?

⁶ For unto us a child is born. Unto us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. He will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace.

¹ »Come, and let us return to Jehovah. He has torn us to pieces but he will heal us. He has wounded us but he will bandage us.

¹⁹ The angel answered: »I am Gabriel, whose place is before God. I have been sent to give you this good news.
