⁹ »This festival will be like a mark on your hand. It will be a reminder on your forehead that the teachings of Jehovah are always to be a part of your conversation! Jehovah used his mighty hand to bring you out of Egypt.

¹ Jehovah said to Moses: »Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh. I will show him my power. He will let my people go! I will show him my power, and he will throw them out of his country.« ² God spoke further to Moses and said to him: »I am Jehovah. ³ »I appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, as God Almighty, but by my name, Jehovah, I did not make myself known to them. ⁴ »I also established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land in which they lived as foreigners. ⁵ »Furthermore I have heard the groaning of the sons of Israel. This is because the Egyptians are holding them in bondage. I have remembered my covenant. ⁶ »Tell the sons of Israel: ‘I am Jehovah. I will bring you out from under the oppression of the Egyptians. I will free you from slavery! I will rescue you with my powerful arm and with mighty acts of judgment.’ ⁷ »I will make you my people, and I will be your God. You will know that I am Jehovah your God. I brought you out from under the forced labor of the Egyptians. ⁸ »I will bring you to the land I solemnly swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I will give it to you as your own possession. I am Jehovah!’« ⁹ Moses reported this to the Israelites. But they would not listen to him. For they were so discouraged by their backbreaking work. ¹⁰ Then Jehovah told Moses: ¹¹ »Demand that Pharaoh king of Egypt let the sons of Israel go.« ¹² But Moses replied: »I am not a powerful speaker. If the sons of Israel will not listen to me, why should the king of Egypt?« ¹³ Jehovah sent Aaron and Moses with a message for the sons of Israel and for the king. He also ordered Aaron and Moses to free the people from Egypt. ¹⁴ The following men were the heads of their father’s households: The sons of Reuben, Jacob’s oldest son, were Hanoch, Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi. ¹⁵ The sons of Simeon: Jemuel and Jamin and Ohad and Jachin and Zohar and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman; these are the families of Simeon. ¹⁶ These are the names of the sons of Levi according to their generations: Gershon and Kohath and Merari. Levi lived one hundred and thirty-seven years. ¹⁷ The sons of Gershon: Libni and Shimei, according to their families. ¹⁸ The sons of Kohath: Amram and Izhar and Hebron and Uzziel. Kohath lived one hundred and thirty-three years. ¹⁹ The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of the Levites according to their generations. ²⁰ Amram married his father’s sister Jochebed, and she bore him Aaron and Moses. Amram lived one hundred and thirty-seven years. ²¹ The sons of Izhar: Korah and Nepheg and Zichri. ²² The sons of Uzziel: Mishael and Elzaphan and Sithri. ²³ Aaron married Elisheba, the daughter of Amminadab, the sister of Nahshon, and she bore him Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. ²⁴ The sons of Korah: Assir and Elkanah and Abiasaph; these are the families of the Korahites. ²⁵ Aaron’s son Eleazar married one of the daughters of Putiel, and she bore him Phinehas. These are the heads of the fathers’ households of the Levites according to their families. ²⁶ It was the same Aaron and Moses to whom Jehovah said: »Bring out the sons of Israel from the land of Egypt according to their hosts.« ²⁷ They were the ones who spoke to Pharaoh king of Egypt about bringing out the sons of Israel from Egypt. It was the same Moses and Aaron. ²⁸ On the day when Jehovah spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt, ²⁹ Jehovah said to Moses: »I am Jehovah! Speak to Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I speak to you.« ³⁰ But Moses protested to Jehovah: »I am unskilled in speech. How then will Pharaoh listen to me?«

¹⁴ »This day will be a memorial to you. You shall celebrate it as a feast to Jehovah. You are to celebrate it as a permanent ordinance throughout your generations.

³ Moses said to the people: »Remember this day in the month of Abib. It is the day Jehovah’s mighty power rescued you from slavery in Egypt. Do not eat anything made with yeast.

¹⁶ »This festival will be like a mark on your hand and like a band on your forehead, because Jehovah used his mighty hand to bring us out of Egypt.«

³⁹ »When you look at the threads in the tassel, you will remember all Jehovah’s commandments and obey them. Then you will not do whatever you want and go after whatever you see, as if you were chasing after prostitutes.

⁶ »These words that I command you this day must be in your heart.

⁸ »Bind them for a sign upon your hand. They shall be as frontlets between your eyes.

¹⁸ »Take these words of mine to heart and keep them in mind. Write them down, tie them around your wrist, and wear them as headbands to remind you. ¹⁹ »Teach them to your children! Talk about them in your home and away. Speak of them when you lie down or get up.

¹⁴ »No, these words are very near you. They are in your mouth and in your heart so that you will obey them.

⁸ »This Book of the Law will not depart out of your mouth. You must meditate (intensely study) (think deeply) on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. Then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. ⁹ »Have I commanded you? Be strong and of a good courage. Do not be afraid, neither be dismayed; for Jehovah your God is with you wherever you go.« ¹⁰ »These are your servants and your people, whom you have made yours by your great power and by your strong hand.

¹³ You have a strong arm! Your hand is mighty (power by Holy Spirit); your right hand is exalted.

²¹ My son, do not let them depart from your eyes. Keep sound wisdom and discretion!

⁹ Discipline and education are a graceful ornament on your head, and a golden chain around your neck.

²⁰ My son, obey your father's command, and do not abandon the law of your mother: ²¹ Constantly bind them upon your heart, and tie them about your neck. ²² When you go, they will lead you; when you sleep they will watch over you and when you awake, they will talk to you. ²³ For the commandment is a lamp. The law is light. Reproofs for instruction are the way of life.

²³ Till a dart strikes through his liver. The bird hurries to the snare without knowing it would cost his life.

⁶ (The Shulamite to her Beloved) »Set me as a signature ring seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm. For Love is as strong as death. Zeal (devotion) is as fixed as the grave. And zeal burns like coals of fire, the very flame of Jehovah.

¹ In that day Jehovah will punish with his sword, his fierce, great and powerful sword. He will slay Leviathan the fleeing, coiling serpent, the monster of the sea.

¹⁶ I have inscribed you on the palms of my hands. Your walls are constantly before me.

⁹ Awake, awake! Clothe yourself with strength, O arm of Jehovah. Awake, as in days gone by, as in generations of old. Was it not you who cut Rahab to pieces, who pierced that monster through?

¹⁰ See the Sovereign Lord Jehovah comes with power. His arm (power) rules for him. See, his reward is with him and his recompense accompanies him.

²¹ »This is my promise to them,«says Jehovah. »My Spirit is on you and my words that I put in your mouth will not leave you. They will be with your children and your grandchildren permanently,« says Jehovah

²⁴ »‘As I live,’ says Jehovah, ‘even though Coniah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah were a signet ring on my right hand, yet I would pull you off.

¹¹ »Jehovah speaks before his army. His camp is very great! He is strong that executes his word. The Day of Jehovah is great and very terrible! Who can endure it?«

⁵ »They do everything to be seen by men. For example: they enlarge their scripture cases for their foreheads and lengthen the tassels on their garments.

⁸ But what does it say? »The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart.« It is the »word« of faith, which we preach. (Deuteronomy 30:8-20)
