³⁷ »He loved your fathers. Therefore he chose their descendants. In fact he watched over you and he brought you out of Egypt with his mighty power.

³ Moses said to the people: »Remember this day in the month of Abib. It is the day Jehovah’s mighty power rescued you from slavery in Egypt. Do not eat anything made with yeast.

⁹ »This festival will be like a mark on your hand. It will be a reminder on your forehead that the teachings of Jehovah are always to be a part of your conversation! Jehovah used his mighty hand to bring you out of Egypt.

¹⁴ »In the future when your children ask you, ‘What does this mean?’ tell them: ‘Jehovah used his mighty hand to bring us out of slavery in Egypt.’’«

¹⁴ Jehovah replied: »I will go with you and give you peace.«

⁷ »Jehovah set his heart on you. He chose you, even though you did not outnumber all the other people. You were the smallest of all nations. ⁸ »You were chosen because Jehovah loved you and kept the oath he swore to your fathers. So he used his mighty hand to bring you out. He freed you from slavery under Pharaoh king of Egypt. ⁹ »Keep in mind that Jehovah your God is the only true God. He is the faithful God. He keeps his promise and is merciful to thousands of generations of those who love him and obey his commandments.

⁵ »It is not because you have been living right or because you are so honest that you enter to take possession of their land. It is because these people are so wicked that Jehovah your God is forcing them out of your way. It is also because Jehovah wants to confirm the promise he swore to your fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

¹⁵ »Yet Jehovah set his affection on your fathers. He loved them. He chose you their descendants above all peoples, as it is this day.

³⁴ »Has God attempted to take a nation from the middle of another nation? Has he done this by temptations, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by great terrors? Yes, and by the use of his great power! Jehovah your God did all this for you in Egypt before your very eyes!

⁹ »The eyes of Jehovah keep close watch over the entire world. He gives strength (shows His strength) to (in behalf of) those whose hearts are loyal to him. You have acted foolishly! Therefore from now on you will always be at war.«

⁸ Jehovah says: »I will instruct you. I will teach you the way that you should go. I will advise you as my eyes watch over you.

¹⁵ Jehovah’s eyes watch over righteous people. His ears hear their cry for help.

⁶ You seed of Abraham his servant, you children of Jacob his chosen ones. ⁷ He is Jehovah our God: his judgments are in all the earth. ⁸ He has remembered his covenant forever! It is the word he commanded to a thousand generations. ⁹ He made this covenant with Abraham and gave his oath to Isaac. ¹⁰ He confirmed the same to Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant.

¹ When Israel left Egypt, when Jacob's family left people who spoke a foreign language, ² Judah became his holy place and Israel became his government. ³ The Red Sea looked at this and ran away. The Jordan River turned back. ⁴ The mountains jumped like rams. The hills jumped like lambs. ⁵ Red Sea, why did you run away? Jordan River, what made you turn back? ⁶ Mountains, what made you jump like rams? Hills, what made you jump like lambs?

¹⁰ To him who destroyed the Egyptians in their firstborn. His loving kindness is everlasting. ¹¹ And brought Israel out from their midst, for his loving kindness is everlasting. ¹² With a strong hand and an outstretched arm, for his loving kindness is everlasting. ¹³ To Him who divided the Red Sea asunder. His loving kindness is everlasting. ¹⁴ And made Israel pass through the midst of it. For his loving kindness is everlasting. ¹⁵ But he overthrew Pharaoh and his army in the Red Sea, for his loving kindness is everlasting.

⁹ Awake, awake! Clothe yourself with strength, O arm of Jehovah. Awake, as in days gone by, as in generations of old. Was it not you who cut Rahab to pieces, who pierced that monster through? ¹⁰ Was it not you who dried up the sea, the waters of the great deep, who made a road in the depths of the sea so that the redeemed might cross over? ¹¹ Jehovah’s ransomed will return. They will enter Zion with singing! Everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away.

⁸ »However you, O Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, you descendants of Abraham, my friend, ⁹ »‘I took you from the ends of the earth. I called you from its farthest corners. I said: ‘You are my servant. I have chosen you and have not rejected you.

⁹ In all their difficulty he was concerned, and he was the messenger who saved them. In his love and compassion he reclaimed (redeemed) them. He always held them and carried them in the past.

¹¹ His people finally remembered Moses and the days of old. Where is the one who brought them out of the sea with the shepherds of his flock? Where is the one who put his Holy Spirit in the midst of them? ¹² Where is the one who sent his powerful arm to support the right hand of Moses? Where is the one who divided the water in front of them to make an everlasting name for himself?

¹ Jehovah proclaims: »At that time I will be the God of all the families of Israel, and they will be my people.«

² »I have loved you,« said Jehovah. You replied: »How have you loved us?« »Was Esau Jacob's brother?« Responded Jehovah: »Yet I loved Jacob.

⁷² »He shows mercy towards our fathers and remembers his holy covenant. ⁷³ »It was the oath he spoke to Abraham our father.

⁵ The forefathers belong to them from whom came the Christ according to the flesh. God who is over all is blessed forever. Amen.
