¹ Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is opposite Jericho. Jehovah showed him all the land, Gilead as far as Dan, ² and all Naphtali and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah as far as the western sea, ³ and the Negev and the plain in the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, as far as Zoar. ⁴ Jehovah said: »This is the land that I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying: I will give it to your descendants. I let you see it with your eyes, but you shall not go over there.« ⁵ Moses the servant of Jehovah died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of Jehovah. ⁶ He buried him in the valley in the land of Moab, opposite Beth-peor. No man knows his burial place to this day. ⁷ Moses was one hundred and twenty years old when he died. His eye was not dim, nor his vigor abated. ⁸ So the sons of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days. Then the days of weeping and mourning for Moses came to an end. ⁹ Joshua the son of Nun was filled with the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on him. The sons of Israel listened to him and did as Jehovah had commanded Moses. ¹⁰ Since that time no prophet has risen in Israel like Moses, whom Jehovah knew face to face (intimately), ¹¹ for all the signs and wonders that Jehovah sent him to perform in the land of Egypt against Pharaoh, all his servants, and all his land, ¹² and for all the great wonders and mighty power which Moses performed in the sight of all Israel.

⁷ Jehovah appeared to Abram and said: »I will give this land to your offspring (seed).« He built an altar there to Jehovah, who had appeared to him.

¹⁵ »All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring (descendants) from generation to generation.

² these four kings made war with King Bera of Sodom, King Birsha of Gomorrah, King Shinab of Admah, King Shemeber of Zeboiim, and the king of Zoar.

⁸ Then the king of Sodom, the king of Gomorrah, the king of Admah, the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Zoar went out, and they joined battle in the Valley of Siddim.

¹⁴ Abram heard that his nephew had been taken captive. Abram led his trained men, born in his house, three hundred eighteen of them, in pursuit as far as Dan.

¹⁸ On that day Jehovah made a covenant with Abram. He said: »To your descendants I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates, ¹⁹ the land of the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites, ²⁰ the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, ²¹ the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.«

²² »Run there quickly! I cannot do anything until you get there.« The city is named Zoar [Small].

³ »You will live there as a foreigner. I will be with you and bless you. I will keep my promise to your father Abraham by giving this land to you and your descendants.

¹ Isaac was old and going blind. He called his older son Esau and said to him: »Son!« Esau answered: »Here I am.«

¹³ Jehovah was standing above the stairway. He proclaimed: »I am Jehovah, the God of your grandfather Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give the land on which you are lying to you and your descendants.

¹⁰ Israel’s eyesight was failing because of old age. He could hardly see. So Joseph brought his sons close to his father. Israel hugged them and kissed them.

³ It took forty days, which is the normal time for embalming. The Egyptians mourned for him seventy days.

¹⁰ They mourned loudly for a long time at the threshing place at Atad east of the Jordan. Joseph performed mourning ceremonies for seven days.

³¹ »I will make the borders of your land extend from the Gulf of Aqaba to the Mediterranean Sea and from the desert to the Euphrates River. I will give you power over the inhabitants of the land. You will drive them out as you advance.

³ »I filled him with the Spirit of God (my power). I gave him understanding, skill, and ability for every kind of artistic work.

¹¹ Jehovah would speak with Moses in person (intimately) (face to face) just as someone speaks with a friend. Moses would then return to the camp. But the young man who was his helper, Joshua son of Nun, stayed in the Tent.

¹⁷ »I will come down and speak with you there. I will take some of the spirit I have given and give it to them. Then they can help you bear the responsibility for these people. You will not have to bear it alone.

⁶ He said: »Listen to my words: ‘When there are prophets of Jehovah among you, I make myself known to them in visions or speak to them in dreams. ⁷ »‘But this is not the way I treat my servant Moses. He is the most faithful person in my household.

⁷ »‘But this is not the way I treat my servant Moses. He is the most faithful person in my household. ⁸ »‘I speak with him face to face. I speak plainly and not in riddles. He even sees the form of Jehovah. Why were you not afraid to criticize my servant Moses?’«

¹² Jehovah said to Moses and Aaron: »You did not trust me! You did not show the Israelites how holy I am! So you will not bring this congregation into the land I am giving them.«

²⁹ The entire congregation learned that Aaron had died. They all mourned for him for thirty days.

²⁰ and from Bamoth to the valley in the territory of the Moabites, below the top of Mount Pisgah, looking out over the desert.

¹² Jehovah said to Moses: »Go up into the Abarim Mountains, and take a look at the land I will give the Israelites.

¹⁸ Jehovah said to Moses: »Take Joshua son of Nun, a capable man, and place your hands on his head. ¹⁹ »Have him stand in front of Eleazar the priest and the entire congregation, and there before them all proclaim him as your successor. ²⁰ »Give him some of your authority, so that the whole congregation of Israel will obey him. ²¹ »He will depend on Eleazar the priest, who will learn my will by using the Urim and Thummim. In this way Eleazar will direct Joshua and the whole congregation of Israel in all their affairs.« ²² Moses did as Jehovah commanded him. He had Joshua stand before Eleazar the priest and the whole congregation. ²³ Moses put his hands on Joshua’s head and proclaimed him as his successor, just as Jehovah proclaimed.

³³ So Moses gave the tribes of Gad, Reuben, and half of the tribe of Manasseh, son of Joseph, the kingdoms of King Sihon of the Amorites and King Og of Bashan. It was the whole land with its cities and its surrounding territory. ³⁴ The tribe of Gad rebuilt the cities of Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer, ³⁵ Atroth Shophan, Jazer, Jogbehah, ³⁶ Beth Nimrah, and Beth Haran as walled cities. They also built stone fences for their flocks. ³⁷ The tribe of Reuben rebuilt the cities of Heshbon, Elealeh, Kiriathaim, ³⁸ Nebo, Baal Meon whose names were changed, and Sibmah. These are the names they gave the cities they rebuilt. ³⁹ The descendants of Machir son of Manasseh went to Gilead. They captured it and forced out the Amorites who were there. ⁴⁰ So Moses gave Gilead to the people of Machir the descendants of Manasseh, and they lived there.

⁴⁷ They moved from Almon Diblathaim and set up camp in the Abarim Mountains east of Nebo.

³ »The southern border will extend from the wilderness of Zin along the border of Edom. It will begin on the east at the southern end of the Dead Sea.

⁶ »The western border will be the Mediterranean Sea, it will be the western border.

²⁶ »Jehovah was angry with me because of you, so he would not listen to me. He said: ‘Enough of that! Do not talk to me anymore about this. ²⁷ »‘Go to the top of (Mount) Pisgah, and look west, north, south, and east. You may look at the land, but you will never cross the Jordan River.

¹⁹ »You saw with your own eyes the terrible plagues, the miraculous signs, and the amazing things Jehovah did. He used his mighty hand and powerful arm to bring you out. He will do the same thing to all the people who frighten you.

²⁴ »Every place on which the sole of your foot treads will be yours. Your border will be from the wilderness to Lebanon, and from the river, the river Euphrates, as far as the western sea.

³⁴ »Has God attempted to take a nation from the middle of another nation? Has he done this by temptations, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by great terrors? Yes, and by the use of his great power! Jehovah your God did all this for you in Egypt before your very eyes!

⁴ »Jehovah talked with you face to face on the mountain out of the middle of the fire, ⁵ »I stood between Jehovah and you at that time, to declare to you the word of Jehovah. You were afraid because of the fire. So you would not go up onto the mountain. He said:

² »I am one hundred and twenty years old now. I am not able to lead you anymore. Jehovah has told me that I may not cross the Jordan River.

¹⁴ Then Jehovah said to Moses: »Behold, the time for you to die is near. Call Joshua, and present yourselves at the tent of meeting, that I may commission him.« So Moses and Joshua went and presented themselves at the tent of meeting.

⁴⁹ »Go up to this mountain of the Abarim, Mount Nebo. It is in the land of Moab opposite Jericho. Look at the land of Canaan. I am giving this to the sons of Israel for a possession. ⁵⁰ »Then die on the mountain you climb. Be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother died on Mount Hor and was gathered to his people,

⁵² »You will see the land at a distance, but you will not go into the land I am giving the sons of Israel.«

⁴ Jehovah said: »This is the land that I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying: I will give it to your descendants. I let you see it with your eyes, but you shall not go over there.«

¹ Moses the servant of Jehovah (YHWH) died. After his death Jehovah spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ minister, saying: ² »Moses my servant is dead. Arise and cross over the Jordan River. Take the people into the land given to them, even to the children of Israel.

¹⁶ They answered Joshua: »All that you command us we will do. Wherever you send us we will go. ¹⁷ »Just as we listened to Moses in all things, we will listen to you in all things. May Jehovah your God be with you, as he was with Moses. ¹⁸ »Whoever rebels against your commandment, and does not listen to your words in all that you command him must be put to death. Be strong and of a good courage.«

¹⁵ »Jehovah your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your fellow Israelites. Listen to him! ¹⁶ »This is according to all that you asked of Jehovah your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly. You said: Let me not hear again the voice of Jehovah my God. Do not let me see this great fire anymore, or I will die. ¹⁷ »Jehovah said to me: ‘They have spoken well. ¹⁸ »‘I will raise up a prophet from among their countrymen like you. I will put my words in his mouth. He will speak to them all that I command him.

¹⁰ »‘Jehovah has kept me alive, as he said, these forty-five years, even since Jehovah spoke this word to Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness. Now I am this day eighty-five years old. ¹¹ »‘So far I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength is now, for war, both to go out, and to come in.

¹² The west border was to the coast of the great sea. This is the coast of the children of Judah round about according to their families.

⁴⁷ The boundary of the children of Dan went too little for them: therefore the children of Dan went up to fight against Leshem, put it to the sword and occupied it. They lived there and called Leshem, Dan, after the name of Dan their father.

¹⁶ The children of the Kenite, Moses’ father-in-law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah to the wilderness of Judah, which lies in the south of Arad to live with the people.

¹³ Eglon joined the Ammonites and the Amalekites. They defeated Israel and captured Jericho, the city of palm trees.

²⁹ They changed its name from Laish to Dan, after their ancestor Dan, the son of Jacob.

¹ Samuel died. All Israel gathered to mourn him. They buried him at his home in Ramah. Then David went to the desert of Paran.

⁹ ‘Give me the wisdom I need to rule your people with justice. Help me know the difference between good and evil. Otherwise, how would I ever be able to rule this great people of yours?«

¹² »I will do what you have asked. I will give you more wisdom and understanding than anyone has ever had. There has never been nor will ever be anyone like you.

⁹ Elijah said to Elisha: »Tell me what you want me to do for you before I am taken from you.« Elisha answered: »Let me receive a double share of your spirit (power).«

¹⁵ The fifty prophets from Jericho saw him and said: »The power of Elijah is on Elisha!« So they went to meet him and bowed down before him.

¹⁵ Then the men who were mentioned by name took charge of the prisoners and gave clothes from the loot to all the prisoners who were naked. They provided clothes for them, gave them sandals, gave them something to eat and drink, and let them bathe. They put everyone who was exhausted on donkeys and brought them to Jericho, the City of Palms, near their own people. Then they returned to Samaria.

⁴³ when he performed his miraculous signs in Egypt, his wonders in the fields of Zoan. ⁴⁴ He turned their rivers into blood so that they could not drink from their streams. ⁴⁵ He sent a swarm of flies that bit them and frogs that ruined them. ⁴⁶ He gave their crops to grasshoppers and their produce to locusts. ⁴⁷ He killed their vines with hail and their fig trees with frost. ⁴⁸ He let the hail strike their cattle and bolts of lightning strike their livestock. ⁴⁹ He sent his fierce burning anger, his rage and fury against them. He sent an army of destroying angels. ⁵⁰ He cleared a path for his anger. He did not spare them from death. He let the plague take their lives. ⁵¹ He destroyed every firstborn in Egypt, the ones born in the tents of Ham when their fathers were young. ⁵² He led his own people out like sheep and guided them like a flock through the wilderness. ⁵³ He led them safely. They had no fear while the sea covered their enemies. ⁵⁴ He brought them into his holy land, to this mountain that his power had won. ⁵⁵ He drove nations out of their way and gave them the land of the nations as their inheritance. He settled the tribes of Israel in their own tents. ⁵⁶ They tested God Most High and rebelled against him. They did not obey his written instructions. ⁵⁷ They were disloyal and treacherous like their ancestors. They were like arrows shot from a defective bow. ⁵⁸ They provoked him to anger (indignation) because of their illegal worship sites. They made him furious because they worshiped idols.

⁹ He made this covenant with Abraham and gave his oath to Isaac. ¹⁰ He confirmed the same to Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant. ¹¹ He said: »I will give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance to you.«

²⁶ He sent his servant Moses, and he sent Aaron, whom he had chosen. ²⁷ They displayed his miraculous signs among them and did amazing things in the land of Ham. ²⁸ He sent darkness and made their land dark. They did not rebel against his orders. ²⁹ He turned their water into blood and caused their fish to die. ³⁰ He made their land swarm with frogs, even in the kings' bedrooms. ³¹ He spoke, and swarms of flies and gnats infested their entire territory. ³² He gave them hail and lightning instead of rain throughout their land. ³³ He struck their grapevines and fig trees and smashed the trees in their territory. ³⁴ He spoke, and countless locusts and grasshoppers came. ³⁵ They devoured all the plants in the land. They devoured the crops in the fields. ³⁶ He killed all the firstborn sons, the first ones born in the land when their fathers were young. ³⁷ He brought Israel out with silver and gold, and no one among his tribes stumbled. ³⁸ The Egyptians were terrified of Israel, so they were glad when Israel left.

² The Spirit of Jehovah will rest on him. The spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and strength, the spirit of knowledge and respect for Jehovah will be his.

¹ The righteous perishes and no man takes it to heart. Merciful men are taken away, while no one considers that the righteous is taken away from evil.

² In visions, God brought me to Israel and set me down on a very high mountain. On the south side of the mountain were buildings that looked like those in a city.

³ Daniel was distinguished above the other commissioners and the governors because an excellent spirit (mind) was in him. Therefore the king thought to set him over the whole realm.

⁴ »You should remember the Law of Moses my servant. I commanded the statutes and ordinances (regulations and judgments) to him at Horeb for all Israel.

¹⁷ The law came through Moses. Loving-kindness and truth came through Jesus Christ.

³⁴ »For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God. God does not give the spirit by measure.

³⁵ »The slave does not abide in the house forever. The son abides forever. ³⁶ »If therefore the Son will make you free, you will be free indeed.

²² »Moses said to the fathers, ‘Jehovah will raise up for your brothers a prophet like me. You must listen to all the things he speaks to you.’ (Deuteronomy 18:18) ²³ »It will happen. Every person who will not listen to the prophet will be destroyed from among the people.

²³ »When he was forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brothers the children of Israel.

³⁰ »At the end of forty years, Jehovah’s angel appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sinai in a flame of fire in a bush. (Exodus 3:3)

³⁶ »He brought them out. He showed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, in the Red sea, and in the wilderness forty years. ³⁷ »This is the Moses that said to the children of Israel, your God will raise up a prophet like me from your brothers.

² Devout men buried Stephen and mourned him greatly.

¹⁷ So they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit. ¹⁸ When Simon saw the Holy Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money. ¹⁹ Simon said: »Give me this power that on whomever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Spirit.«

⁶ whom they set before the apostles. After they prayed, they laid their hands on them.

³ In him is concealed all the hidden treasures of God’s wisdom and knowledge.

¹⁴ Do not neglect the spiritual gift in you. It was given to you by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the elders.

²² Do not lay your hands hastily on any man, neither be a partaker of other men's sins: keep yourself pure.

²⁵ He should instruct those who oppose using meekness. Perhaps God will give them repentance that they may know the truth.

³ He has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses. This is because the builder of the house has more honor than the house. ⁴ Every house has a builder. God is the builder of all things. ⁵ Indeed Moses was faithful in His house, as a ministering servant, for a testimony of the things to be spoken afterwards. ⁶ Christ was faithful as a Son over God’s house. We are His house if we hold on to our courage (confidence) and rejoice (speak boldly) about our hope until the end.

¹ Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained a precious faith with us in the righteousness of our God, and of our Savior Jesus Christ:

³ They sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying: »Great and marvelous are your works, Jehovah God, the Almighty; just and true are your ways, you King of the ages (Eternal King) (King of the nations) (King of the holy ones). (Deuteronomy 31:30; 32:4) (Exodus 6:3)

¹⁰ He carried me away in spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me that great city, the holy city Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God.

⁹ Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil disputed about the body of Moses. He did not speak evil judgment against him in abusive terms, but said: »Jehovah rebukes you.« (Zechariah 3:2)
