⁸ Remove far from me vanity and lies. Give me neither poverty nor riches. Feed me with food necessary for me. ⁹ If I am full I could deny you and say, »Who is Jehovah?« Or if I am poor and steal, I could take God’s name in vain.

²⁴ There is nothing better for a man than to eat and drink, and delight in his work. This also I saw was from the hand of God. ²⁵ After all, who eats and who drinks better than I? ²⁶ To the man who is good, God gives wisdom and knowledge and joy. But to the sinner he gives the work of getting goods together and storing up wealth, to give to him who is good before God. This also is vanity and grasping for the wind.

¹² I am certain that there is nothing better for a man than to rejoice and to do good works in life. ¹³ Every man should eat and drink and enjoy the good of all his labor. It is the gift of God.
