¹¹ All the people who were in the gate, and the elders, said, "We are witnesses. May the LORD make the woman who has come into your house like Rachel and like Leah, which two built the house of Israel; and treat you worthily in Ephrathah, and be famous in Bethlehem.

⁶⁰ They blessed Rebekah, and said to her, "Our sister, may you be the mother of thousands of ten thousands, and let your descendants possess the gate of those who hate them."

³² Leah conceived, and bore a son, and she named him Reuben. For she said, "Because God has looked at my affliction, and given me a son. For now my husband will love me."

¹⁶ Then they set out from Bethel. There was still some distance to come to Ephrath, and Rachel went into labor, and her labor was difficult. ¹⁷ When she was in the difficult labor, the midwife said to her, "Do not be afraid, for now you have another son." ¹⁸ It happened, as her life was departing (for she died), that she named him Ben-Oni, but his father named him Benjamin. ¹⁹ So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem). ²⁰ Jacob set up a standing-stone on her grave. It is the standing-stone of Rachelʼs grave to this day.

⁸ Now these are the names of the sons of Israel who went to Egypt, Jacob and his sons: Reuben, Jacobʼs firstborn. ⁹ And the sons of Reuben: Hanoch, and Pallu, and Hezron, and Carmi. ¹⁰ And the sons of Simeon: Jemuel, and Jamin, and Ohad, and Jakin, and Zohar, and Shaul, the son of a Canaanite woman. ¹¹ And the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. ¹² And the sons of Judah: Er, and Onan, and Shelah, and Perez, and Zerah; but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. All the persons of his sons and his daughters were thirty-three. ¹⁶ And the sons of Gad: Zephon, and Haggi, and Shuni, and Ezbon, and Eri, and Arodi, and Areli. ¹⁷ And the sons of Asher: Jimnah, and Jishvah, and Jishvi, and Beriah, and Serah their sister. And the sons of Beriah: Heber, and Malkiel. ¹⁸ These are the sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to his daughter Leah, and these she bore to Jacob, sixteen persons. ¹⁹ The sons of Rachel, Jacobʼs wife: Joseph and Benjamin. ²⁰ To Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath the daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, bore to him. ²¹ And the sons of Benjamin: Bela, and Beker, and Ashbel, Gera, and Naaman, and Ahiram, and Shuppim, and Huppim, and Ard. ²² These are the sons of Rachel who were born to Jacob: all the persons were fourteen. ²³ And the sons of Dan: Shuham. ²⁴ And the sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, and Guni, and Jezer, and Shillem. ²⁵ These are the sons of Bilhah, whom Laban gave to his daughter Rachel; and these she bore to Jacob: all the persons were seven. ²⁶ All the persons who came with Jacob into Egypt, who were his direct descendants, not including the wives of Jacob's sons, all the persons were sixty-six. ²⁷ And the sons of Joseph who were born to him in Egypt were two persons. All the persons of the house of Jacob who came into Egypt were seventy.

¹ It happened after the plague, that the LORD spoke to Moses and to Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, saying, ² "Take a census of all the congregation of the children of Israel, from twenty years old and upward, by their fathers' houses, all who are able to go forth to war in Israel." ³ Moses and Eleazar the priest spoke with them in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho, saying, ⁴ "Take a census, from twenty years old and upward; as the LORD commanded Moses and the children of Israel." These are that Dathan and Abiram, who were called of the congregation, who strove against Moses and against Aaron in the company of Korah, when they strove against the LORD, ¹⁰ and the earth opened its mouth, and swallowed them up together with Korah, when that company died; what time the fire devoured two hundred fifty men, and they became a sign. ¹¹ Notwithstanding, the sons of Korah did not die. ¹² The descendants of Simeon after their families: of Jemuel, the family of the Jemuelites; of Jamin, the family of the Jaminites; of Jakin, the family of the Jakinites; ¹³ of Zohar, the family of the Zoharites; of Shaul, the family of the Shaulites. ¹⁴ These are the families of the Simeonites, twenty-two thousand two hundred. ¹⁵ The descendants of Gad after their families: of Zephon, the family of the Zephonites; of Haggi, the family of the Haggites; of Shuni, the family of the Shunites; ¹⁶ of Ezbon, the family of the Ezbonites; of Eri, the family of the Erites; ¹⁷ of Arodi, the family of the Arodites; of Areli, the family of the Arelites. ¹⁸ These are the families of the sons of Gad according to those who were numbered of them, forty thousand and five hundred. ¹⁹ The sons of Judah: Er and Onan; and Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. ²⁰ The descendants of Judah after their families were: of Shelah, the family of the Shelanites; of Perez, the family of the Perezites; of Zerah, the family of the Zerahites. ²¹ The sons of Perez were: of Hezron, the family of the Hezronites; of Hamuel, the family of the Hamuelites. ²² These are the families of Judah according to those who were numbered of them, seventy-six thousand five hundred. ²³ The descendants of Issachar after their families: of Tola, the family of the Tolaites; of Puah, the family of the Puites; ²⁴ of Jashub, the family of the Jashubites; of Shimron, the family of the Shimronites. ²⁵ These are the families of Issachar according to those who were numbered of them, sixty-four thousand three hundred. ²⁶ The descendants of Zebulun after their families: of Sered, the family of the Seredites; of Elon, the family of the Elonites; of Jahleel, the family of the Jahleelites. ²⁷ These are the families of the Zebulunites according to those who were numbered of them, sixty thousand five hundred. ²⁸ The sons of Joseph after their families: Manasseh and Ephraim. ²⁹ The descendants of Manasseh: of Makir, the family of the Makirites; and Makir became the father of Gilead; of Gilead, the family of the Gileadites. ³⁰ These are the descendants of Gilead: of Abiezer, the family of the Abiezerites; of Helek, the family of the Helekites; ³¹ and Asriel, the family of the Asrielites; and Shechem, the family of the Shechemites; ³² and Shemida, the family of the Shemidaites; and Hepher, the family of the Hepherites. ³³ Zelophehad the son of Hepher had no sons, but daughters; and these are the names of the daughters of Zelophehad: Mahlah, and Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. ³⁴ These are the families of Manasseh; and those who were numbered of them were fifty-two thousand seven hundred. ³⁵ These are the descendants of Ephraim after their families: of Shuthelah, the family of the Shuthelahites; of Beker, the family of the Bekerites; of Tahan, the family of the Tahanites. ³⁶ These are the descendants of Shuthelah: of Eden, the family of the Edenites. ³⁷ These are the families of the descendants of Ephraim according to those who were numbered of them, thirty-two thousand five hundred. These are the descendants of Joseph after their families. ³⁸ The descendants of Benjamin after their families: of Bela, the family of the Belaites; of Ashbel, the family of the Ashbelites; of Ahiram, the family of the Ahiramites; ³⁹ of Shuppim, the family of the Shuppimites; of Huppim, the family of the Huppimites. ⁴⁰ The sons of Bela were Ard and Naaman: of Ard, the family of the Ardites; of Naaman, the family of the Naamanites. ⁴¹ These are the descendants of Benjamin after their families; and those who were numbered of them were forty-five thousand six hundred. ⁴² These are the descendants of Dan after their families: of Shuham, the family of the Shuhamites. These are the families of Dan after their families. ⁴³ All the families of the Shuhamites, according to those who were numbered of them, were sixty-four thousand four hundred. ⁴⁴ The descendants of Asher after their families: of Imnah, the family of the Jimnaites; of Jishvi, the family of the Jishvites; of Beriah, the family of the Berites. ⁴⁵ Of the descendants of Beriah: of Heber, the family of the Heberites; of Malkiel, the family of the Malkielites. ⁴⁶ The name of the daughter of Asher was Serah. ⁴⁷ These are the families of the descendants of Asher according to those who were numbered of them, fifty-three thousand and four hundred. ⁴⁸ The descendants of Naphtali after their families: of Jahzeel, the family of the Jahzeelites; of Guni, the family of the Gunites; ⁴⁹ of Jezer, the family of the Jezerites; of Shillem, the family of the Shillemites. ⁵⁰ These are the families of Naphtali according to their families; and those who were numbered of them were forty-five thousand four hundred. ⁵¹ These are those who were numbered of the children of Israel, six hundred one thousand seven hundred thirty. ⁵² The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, ⁵³ "To these the land shall be divided for an inheritance according to the number of names. ⁵⁴ To the more you shall give the more inheritance, and to the fewer you shall give the less inheritance: to everyone according to those who were numbered of him shall his inheritance be given. ⁵⁵ Notwithstanding, the land shall be divided by lot: according to the names of the tribes of their fathers they shall inherit. ⁵⁶ According to the lot shall their inheritance be divided between the more and the fewer." ⁵⁷ These are those who were numbered of the Levites after their families: of Gershon, the family of the Gershonites; of Kohath, the family of the Kohathites; of Merari, the family of the Merarites. ⁵⁸ These are the families of Levi: the family of the Libnites, the family of the Hebronites, the family of the Mahlites, the family of the Mushites, the family of the Korahites. Kohath became the father of Amram. ⁵⁹ The name of Amram's wife was Jochebed, the daughter of Levi, who was born to Levi in Egypt: and she bore to Amram Aaron and Moses, and Miriam their sister. ⁶⁰ To Aaron were born Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. ⁶¹ Nadab and Abihu died, when they offered strange fire before the LORD. ⁶² Those who were numbered of them were twenty-three thousand, every male from a month old and upward: for they were not numbered among the children of Israel, because there was no inheritance given them among the children of Israel. ⁶³ These are those who were numbered by Moses and Eleazar the priest, who numbered the children of Israel in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho. ⁶⁴ But among these there was not a man of them who were numbered by Moses and Aaron the priest, who numbered the children of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai. ⁶⁵ For the LORD had said of them, They shall surely die in the wilderness. There was not left a man of them, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.

⁹ then his brother's wife shall come to him in the presence of the elders, and loose his shoe from off his foot, and spit in his face; and she shall answer and say, "So shall it be done to the man who does not build up his brother's house."

² The name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Kilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehem Judah. They came into the country of Moab, and continued there.

³ Look, children are a heritage of the LORD. The fruit of the womb is a reward. ⁴ As arrows in the hand of a mighty man, so are the children of youth. ⁵ Blessed is the man who has his quiver full of them. They won't be disappointed when they speak with their enemies in the gate.

³ Your wife will be as a fruitful vine, in the innermost parts of your house; your children like olive plants, around your table. ⁴ Look, thus is the man blessed who fears the LORD. ⁵ May the LORD bless you out of Zion, and may you see the good of Jerusalem all the days of your life. ⁶ Yes, may you see your children's children. Peace be upon Israel.

⁶ Look, we heard of it in Ephrathah. We found it in the field of Jaar:

¹ Every wise woman builds her house, but the foolish one tears it down with her own hands.

² But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, being small among the clans of Judah, out of you one will come forth to me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting.

⁶ 'And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, are in no way least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come forth a ruler who will shepherd my people, Israel.'"
