Romans Cross References - NHEB

1 Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the Good News of God, 2 which he promised before through his prophets in the holy Scriptures, 3 concerning his Son, who was born of the offspring of David according to the flesh, 4 who was declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord, 5 through whom we received grace and the office of apostle, for obedience of faith among all the nations, for his name's sake; 6 among whom you are also called to belong to Jesus Christ; 7 to all who are in Rome, loved by God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed throughout the whole world. 9 For God is my witness, whom I serve in my spirit in the Good News of his Son, how I constantly mention you 10 always in my prayers, requesting, if by any means now at last I may succeed by the will of God to come to you. 11 For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you; 12 that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith, both yours and mine. 13 Now I do not desire to have you unaware, brothers, that I often planned to come to you, and was hindered so far, that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among the other non-Jewish people. 14 I have an obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish. 15 So, for my part, I am eager to preach the Good News to you also who are in Rome. 16 For I am not ashamed of the Good News, for it is the power of God for salvation for everyone who believes; for the Jew first, and also for the Greek. 17 For in it is revealed God's righteousness from faith to faith. As it is written, "But the righteous will live by faith." 18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of people, who suppress the truth by unrighteousness, 19 because what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world his invisible attributes, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made. So they are without excuse. 21 Because, although they knew God, they did not glorify him as God or give him thanks, but their thinking became nonsense, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23 and traded the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal humans, and of birds, and four-footed animals, and crawling creatures. 24 Therefore God also abandoned them in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the degrading of their bodies among themselves, 25 who exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creation rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. 26 For this reason, God abandoned them to their degrading passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for that which is contrary to nature. 27 Likewise also the men, giving up natural relations with women, burned in their lust toward one another, men with men, committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the due penalty of their error. 28 Even as they refused to have God in their knowledge, God abandoned them to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not right; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil habits, secret slanderers, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 foolish, promise-breakers, heartless, unforgiving, unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but also approve of those who practice them.

24 But I have said to you, "You shall inherit their land, and I will give it to you to possess it, a land flowing with milk and honey." 14 For if I pray in another language, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. 15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also. I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

2 Corinthians 1:23

23 But I call God as a witness to my soul, that to spare you I did not come again to Corinth.

2 Corinthians 11:10-11

10 As the truth of Christ is in me, no one will stop me from this boasting in the regions of Achaia. 11 Why? Because I do not love you? God knows.

2 Corinthians 11:31

31 The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, he who is blessed forevermore, knows that I do not lie.

Galatians 1:20

20 Now about the things which I write to you, look, before God, I'm not lying.

Ephesians 1:16-19

16 do not cease to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers, 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him; 18 having the eyes of your heart enlightened, that you may know what is the hope of his calling, and what are the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the exceeding greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to that working of the strength of his might

Ephesians 3:14-21

14 For this cause, I bow my knees before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, 16 that he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, that you may be strengthened with power through his Spirit in the inner person; 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; to the end that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be strengthened to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know Christ's love which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. 20 Now to him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, 21 to him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.

Ephesians 6:18

18 with all prayer and requests, praying at all times in the Spirit, and being watchful to this end in all perseverance and requests for all the saints:

Philippians 1:4

4 always in every prayer of mine for all of you, making my requests with joy,

Philippians 1:8-11

8 For God is my witness, how I long after all of you in the tender mercies of Christ Jesus. 9 This I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and all discernment; 10 so that you may approve the things that are excellent; that you may be pure and blameless for the Day of Christ; 11 being filled with the fruit of righteousness, which are through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

Philippians 2:22

22 But you know the proof of him, that, as a child serves a father, so he served with me in furtherance of the Good News.

Philippians 3:3

3 For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh;

Colossians 1:9-13

9 For this cause, we also, since the day we heard this, do not cease praying and making requests for you, that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10 that you may walk worthily of the Lord, to please him in every way, bearing fruit in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 strengthened with all power, according to the might of his glory, for all endurance and perseverance with joy; 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the light; 13 who delivered us out of the power of darkness, and transferred us into the Kingdom of the Son of his love;

Colossians 1:28-29

28 whom we proclaim, admonishing everyone and teaching everyone all wisdom, that we may present everyone perfect in Christ Jesus; 29 for which I also labor, struggling according to his power, which works in me mightily.

1 Thessalonians 1:2

2 We always give thanks to God for all of you, mentioning you in our prayers,

1 Thessalonians 2:5-10

5 For neither were we at any time found using words of flattery, as you know, nor with a pretext for greed (God is witness), 6 nor seeking glory from people (neither from you nor from others), when we might have claimed authority as apostles of Christ. 7 But we were like little children among you, like a nursing mother cherishes her own children. 8 Even so, affectionately longing for you, we were well pleased to impart to you, not the Good News of God only, but also our own souls, because you had become very dear to us. 9 For you remember, brothers, our labor and travail; for working night and day, that we might not burden any of you, we preached to you the Good News of God. 10 You are witnesses with God, how holy, righteously, and blamelessly we behaved ourselves toward you who believe.

1 Thessalonians 3:10

10 night and day praying exceedingly that we may see your face, and may perfect that which is lacking in your faith?

1 Thessalonians 5:17

17 Pray without ceasing.

2 Timothy 1:3

3 I thank God, whom I serve as my forefathers did, with a pure conscience. How unceasing is my memory of you in my petitions, night and day 4 I thank my God always, making mention of you in my prayers,

1 John 5:9-12

9 If we accept human testimony, the witness of God is greater; for this is God's testimony that he has testified concerning his Son. 10 He who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. He who does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning his Son. 11 The testimony is this, that God gave to us everlasting life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He who has the Son has the life. He who does not have God's Son does not have the life.

Acts 18:21

21 but taking his leave of them, and saying, "I will return again to you if God wills," he set sail from Ephesus.

Acts 21:14

14 When he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, "The Lord's will be done."

Acts 27:1-28

1 When it was determined that we should sail for Italy, they delivered Paul and certain other prisoners to a centurion named Julius, of the Augustan band. 2 Embarking in a ship from Adramyttium, which was about to sail to places on the coast of Asia, we put to sea; Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica, being with us. 3 The next day, we landed at Sidon. Julius treated Paul kindly, and gave him permission to go to his friends and refresh himself. 4 Putting to sea from there, we sailed under the lee of Cyprus, because the winds were contrary. 5 When we had sailed across the sea which is off Cilicia and Pamphylia, we came to Myra, a city of Lycia. 6 There the centurion found a ship of Alexandria sailing for Italy, and he put us on board. 7 When we had sailed slowly many days, and had come with difficulty opposite Cnidus, the wind not allowing us further, we sailed under the lee of Crete, opposite Salmone. 8 With difficulty sailing along it we came to a certain place called Fair Havens, near the city of Lasea. 9 When much time had passed and the voyage was now dangerous, because the Fast had now already gone by, Paul admonished them, 10 and said to them, "Sirs, I perceive that the voyage will be with injury and much loss, not only of the cargo and the ship, but also of our lives." 11 But the centurion gave more heed to the master and to the owner of the ship than to those things which were spoken by Paul. 12 Because the haven was not suitable to winter in, the majority advised going to sea from there, if by any means they could reach Phoenix, and winter there, which is a port of Crete, looking northeast and southeast. 13 When the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their purpose, they weighed anchor and sailed along Crete, close to shore. 14 But before long, a stormy wind beat down from shore, which is called Euraquilo. 15 When the ship was caught, and could not face the wind, we gave way to it, and were driven along. 16 Running under the lee of a small island called Cauda, we were able, with difficulty, to secure the boat. 17 After they had hoisted it up, they used cables to help reinforce the ship. Fearing that they would run aground on the Syrtis, they lowered the sea anchor, and so were driven along. 18 As we labored exceedingly with the storm, the next day they began to throw things overboard. 19 On the third day, they threw out the ship's tackle with their own hands. 20 When neither sun nor stars shone on us for many days, and no small storm pressed on us, all hope that we would be saved was now taken away. 21 When they had been long without food, Paul stood up in the middle of them, and said, "Sirs, you should have listened to me, and not have set sail from Crete, and have gotten this injury and loss. 22 Now I exhort you to cheer up, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship. 23 For there stood by me this night an angel, belonging to the God whose I am and whom I serve, 24 saying, 'Do not be afraid, Paul. You must stand before Caesar. And look, God has granted you all those who sail with you.' 25 Therefore, sirs, cheer up. For I believe God, that it will be just as it has been spoken to me. 26 But we must run aground on a certain island." 27 But when the fourteenth night had come, as we were driven back and forth in the Adriatic Sea, about midnight the sailors surmised that they were drawing near to some land. 28 They took soundings, and found twenty fathoms. After a little while, they took soundings again, and found fifteen fathoms.

Romans 15:22-24

22 Therefore also I was hindered these many times from coming to you, 23 but now, no longer having any place in these regions, and having these many years a longing to come to you, 24 whenever I journey to Spain I will come to you. For I hope to see you on my journey, and to be helped on my way there by you, if first I may enjoy your company for a while.

Romans 15:30-32

30 Now I appeal to you, brothers, by our Lord Jesus Christ, and by the love of the Spirit, that you strive together with me in your prayers to God for me, 31 that I may be delivered from those who are disobedient in Judea, and that my service which I have for Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints; 32 that I may come to you in joy through the will of God, and together with you, find rest.

1 Corinthians 4:19

19 But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord is willing. And I will know, not the word of those who are puffed up, but the power.

Philippians 4:6

6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.

1 Thessalonians 2:18

18 because we wanted to come to you—indeed, I, Paul, once and again—but Satan hindered us.

1 Thessalonians 3:10-11

10 night and day praying exceedingly that we may see your face, and may perfect that which is lacking in your faith? 11 Now may our God and Father himself, and our Lord Jesus, direct our way to you;

Philemon 1:22

22 Also, prepare a guest room for me, for I hope that through your prayers I will be restored to you.

Hebrews 13:19

19 I strongly urge you to do this, that I may be restored to you sooner.

James 4:15

15 For you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we will both live, and do this or that."

Genesis 31:30

30 Now you have indeed gone away, because you longed greatly for your fatherʼs house. But why have you stolen my gods?"

2 Samuel 13:39

39 And the spirit of the king longed to go forth to Absalom: for he was comforted concerning Amnon, since he was dead.

2 Samuel 23:15

15 And David had a craving and said, "Oh that one would give me water to drink of the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate."

2 Chronicles 20:20

20 They rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, "Listen to me, Judah, and you inhabitants of Jerusalem. Believe in the LORD your God, so you will be established. Believe his prophets, and you will prosper."

Acts 8:15-19

15 who, when they had come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit; 16 for he had not yet fallen upon any of them. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 17 Then they laid their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. 18 Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money, 19 saying, "Give me also this power, that whomever I lay my hands on may receive the Holy Spirit."

Acts 16:5

5 So the churches were strengthened in the faith, and increased in number daily.

Acts 19:6

6 When Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke with other tongues and prophesied.

Romans 15:23

23 but now, no longer having any place in these regions, and having these many years a longing to come to you,

Romans 15:32

32 that I may come to you in joy through the will of God, and together with you, find rest.

1 Corinthians 12:1-11

1 Now concerning spiritual things, brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant. 2 You know that when you were unbelievers, you were led away to those mute idols, however you might be led. 3 Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by God's Spirit says, "Jesus is accursed." No one can say, "Jesus is Lord," but by the Holy Spirit. 4 Now there are various kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are various kinds of service, and the same Lord. 6 There are various kinds of workings, but the same God, who works all things in all. 7 But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the profit of all. 8 For to one is given through the Spirit the word of wisdom, and to another the word of knowledge, according to the same Spirit; 9 to another faith, by the same Spirit; and to another gifts of healings, by the one Spirit; 10 and to another workings of miracles; and to another prophecy; and to another discernings of spirits; to another different kinds of tongues; and to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But the one and the same Spirit works all of these, distributing to each one separately as he desires.

2 Corinthians 1:21

21 Now he who establishes us with you in Christ, and anointed us, is God;

2 Corinthians 9:14

14 while they themselves also, with petition on your behalf, yearn for you by reason of the exceeding grace of God in you.

2 Corinthians 11:4

4 For if he who comes preaches another Jesus, whom we did not preach, or if you receive a different spirit, which you did not receive, or a different "good news", which you did not accept, you put up with that well enough.

Galatians 3:2-5

2 I just want to learn this from you. Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by hearing of faith? 3 Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now completed in the flesh? 4 Did you suffer so many things in vain, if it is indeed in vain? 5 He therefore who supplies the Spirit to you, and works miracles among you, does he do it by the works of the law, or by hearing of faith?

Ephesians 4:8-12

8 Therefore he says, "When he ascended on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts to people." 9 Now this, "He ascended," what is it but that he also descended into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things. 11 He gave some to be apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 for the perfecting of the saints, to the work of serving, to the building up of the body of Christ;

Philippians 1:8

8 For God is my witness, how I long after all of you in the tender mercies of Christ Jesus.

Philippians 2:26

26 since he longed for you all, and was very troubled, because you had heard that he was sick.

Philippians 4:1

1 Therefore, my brothers, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, so stand firm in the Lord, my beloved.

1 Thessalonians 3:2

2 and sent Timothy, our brother and God's fellow worker in the Good News of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith;

1 Thessalonians 3:13

13 to the end he may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.

2 Thessalonians 2:17

17 comfort your hearts and establish you in every good work and word.

2 Thessalonians 3:3

3 But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you, and guard you from the evil one.

Hebrews 13:9

9 Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings, for it is good that the heart be established by grace, not by food, through which those who were so occupied were not benefited.

1 Peter 5:10

10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen and establish you.

1 Peter 5:12

12 Through Silvanus, our faithful brother, as I consider him, I have written to you briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand firm in it.

2 Peter 1:12

12 Therefore I will be ready always to remind you of these things, though you know them, and are established in the present truth.

2 Peter 3:17-18

17 You therefore, beloved, knowing these things beforehand, beware, lest being carried away with the error of the wicked, you fall from your own steadfastness. 18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and forever.

Acts 11:23

23 who, when he had come, and had seen the grace of God, was glad. He exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they should remain true to the Lord.

Romans 15:24

24 whenever I journey to Spain I will come to you. For I hope to see you on my journey, and to be helped on my way there by you, if first I may enjoy your company for a while.

2 Corinthians 2:1-3

1 For I determined this for myself, that I would not come to you again in sorrow. 2 For if I make you sorry, then who will make me glad but he who is made sorry by me? 3 And I wrote this very thing, so that, when I came, I would not have sorrow from them of whom I ought to rejoice; having confidence in you all, that my joy would be shared by all of you.

2 Corinthians 7:4-7

4 Great is my boldness of speech toward you. Great is my boasting on your behalf. I am filled with comfort. I overflow with joy in all our affliction. 5 For even when we had come into Macedonia, our flesh had no relief, but we were afflicted on every side. Fightings were outside. Fear was inside. 6 Nevertheless, he who comforts the lowly, God, comforted us by the coming of Titus; 7 and not by his coming only, but also by the comfort with which he was comforted in you, while he told us of your longing, your mourning, and your zeal for me; so that I rejoiced still more.

2 Corinthians 7:13

13 Therefore we have been comforted. In our comfort we rejoiced the more exceedingly for the joy of Titus, because his spirit has been refreshed by you all.

Ephesians 4:5

5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism,

1 Thessalonians 2:17-20

17 But we, brothers, being bereaved of you for a short season, in presence, not in heart, tried even harder to see your face with great desire, 18 because we wanted to come to you—indeed, I, Paul, once and again—but Satan hindered us. 19 For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Is it not even you, before our Lord Jesus at his coming? 20 For you are our glory and our joy.

1 Thessalonians 3:7-10

7 for this cause, brothers, we were comforted over you in all our distress and affliction through your faith. 8 For now we live, since you stand firm in the Lord. 9 For what thanksgiving can we render again to God for you, for all the joy with which we rejoice for your sakes before our God; 10 night and day praying exceedingly that we may see your face, and may perfect that which is lacking in your faith?

2 Timothy 1:4

4 longing to see you, remembering your tears, that I may be filled with joy;

2 John 1:4

4 I rejoice greatly that I have found some of your children walking in truth, even as we have been commanded by the Father.

3 John 1:3-4

3 For I rejoiced greatly, when brothers came and testified about your truth, even as you walk in truth. 4 I have no greater joy than this, to hear about my children walking in truth.

Jude 1:3

3 Beloved, while I was very eager to write to you about our common salvation, I was constrained to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.

Isaiah 27:6

6 In days to come, Jacob will take root. Israel will blossom and bud. They will fill the surface of the world with fruit.

John 4:36

36 He who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit to everlasting life; that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together.

John 12:24

24 Truly, truly, I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains by itself alone. But if it dies, it bears much fruit.

John 15:16

16 You did not choose me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain; that whatever you will ask of the Father in my name, he may give it to you.

27 When they had arrived, and had gathered the church together, they reported all the things that God had done with them, and that he had opened a door of faith to the nations.

12 And all the people kept quiet, and they listened to Barnabas and Paul reporting what signs and wonders God had done among the nations through them.

Acts 16:6-7

6 When they had gone through the region of Phrygia and Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia. 7 When they had come opposite Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them.

Acts 21:19

19 When he had greeted them, he reported one by one the things which God had worked among the non-Jewish people through his ministry.

Romans 11:25

25 For I do not desire you to be ignorant, brothers, of this mystery, so that you won't be wise in your own conceits, that a partial hardening has happened to Israel, until the fullness of the non-Jews has come in,

Romans 15:18-20

18 For I will not dare to speak of any things except those which Christ worked through me, for the obedience of the non-Jews, by word and deed, 19 in the power of signs and wonders, in the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and around as far as to Illyricum, I have fully preached the Good News of Christ; 20 yes, making it my aim to proclaim the Good News, not where Christ was already named, that I might not build on another's foundation.

Romans 15:22-28

22 Therefore also I was hindered these many times from coming to you, 23 but now, no longer having any place in these regions, and having these many years a longing to come to you, 24 whenever I journey to Spain I will come to you. For I hope to see you on my journey, and to be helped on my way there by you, if first I may enjoy your company for a while. 25 But now, I say, I am going to Jerusalem, serving the saints. 26 For it has been the good pleasure of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor among the saints who are at Jerusalem. 27 Yes, it has been their good pleasure, and they are their debtors. For if the non-Jewish people have been made partakers of their spiritual things, they owe it to them also to serve them in fleshly things. 28 When therefore I have accomplished this, and have sealed to them this fruit, I will go on by way of you to Spain.

1 Corinthians 10:1

1 Now I would not have you ignorant, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

1 Corinthians 12:1

1 Now concerning spiritual things, brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant.

2 Corinthians 1:8

8 For we do not desire to have you uninformed, brothers, concerning our affliction which happened in Asia, that we were weighed down exceedingly, beyond our power, so much that we despaired even of life.

2 Corinthians 1:15-16

15 In this confidence, I was determined to come first to you, that you might have a second benefit; 16 and by you to pass into Macedonia, and again from Macedonia to come to you, and to be sent forward by you on my journey to Judea.

2 Corinthians 2:14

14 Now thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and reveals through us the sweet aroma of his knowledge in every place.

2 Corinthians 10:13-16

13 But we will not boast beyond proper limits, but within the boundaries with which God appointed to us, which reach even to you. 14 For we do not stretch ourselves too much, as though we did not reach to you. For we came even as far as to you with the Good News of Christ, 15 not boasting excessively in the work done by others, but having hope that as your faith grows, we will be abundantly enlarged by you in our sphere of influence, 16 so as to proclaim the Good News even to the regions beyond you, not to boast in what someone else has already done.

Philippians 4:17

17 Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your account.

1 Thessalonians 1:8-10

8 For from you the word of the Lord has been declared, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith toward God has gone out; so that we do not need to say anything. 9 For they themselves report concerning us what kind of a reception we had from you; and how you turned to God from idols, to serve a living and true God, 10 and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead—Jesus, who delivers us from the wrath to come.

1 Thessalonians 2:13-14

13 For this cause we also thank God without ceasing, that, when you received from us the word of the message of God, you accepted it not as a human word, but, as it is in truth, the word of God, which also works in you who believe. 14 For you, brothers, became imitators of the churches of God which are in Judea in Christ Jesus; for you also suffered the same things from your own countrymen, even as they did from the Judeans;

1 Thessalonians 4:13

13 But we do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, concerning those who have fallen asleep, so that you do not grieve like the rest, who have no hope.

2 Thessalonians 2:7

7 For the mystery of lawlessness already works. Only there is one who restrains now, until he is taken out of the way.

2 Timothy 4:17

17 But the Lord stood by me, and strengthened me, that through me the message might be fully proclaimed, and that all the non-Jewish people might hear; and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.

8 And a highway will be there, and it will be called the Way of Holiness. The unclean shall not pass over it, but it will be for those who walk in the Way. Wicked fools will not go there.

21 In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit, and said, "I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for so it was well-pleasing in your sight."

4 When the natives saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said one to another, "No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he has escaped from the sea, yet Justice has not allowed to live."

Romans 1:22

22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools,

Romans 8:12

12 So then, brothers, we have no obligation to the flesh, to live after the flesh.

Romans 12:16

16 Be of the same mind one toward another. Do not be arrogant, but associate with the humble. Do not be wise in your own conceits.

Romans 13:8

8 Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.

1 Corinthians 1:19-22

19 For it is written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will nullify." 20 Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Hasn't God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For seeing that in the wisdom of God, the world through its wisdom did not know God, it was God's good pleasure through the foolishness of the preaching to save those who believe. 22 For Jews ask for signs, and Greeks seek after wisdom,

1 Corinthians 2:13

13 And we speak of these things, not with words taught by human wisdom, but with those taught by the Spirit, comparing spiritual things with spiritual things.

1 Corinthians 3:18

18 Let no one deceive himself. If anyone thinks that he is wise among you in this age, let him become a fool, that he may become wise.

1 Corinthians 9:16-23

16 For if I proclaim the Good News, I have nothing to boast about; for necessity is laid on me; but woe is to me, if I do not proclaim the Good News. 17 For if I do this of my own will, I have a reward. But if not of my own will, I have a stewardship entrusted to me. 18 What then is my reward? That, when I proclaim the Good News, I may present the Good News without charge, so as not to abuse my authority in the Good News. 19 For though I was free from all, I brought myself under bondage to all, that I might gain the more. 20 To the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain Jews; to those who are under the law, as under the law, not being myself under the law, that I might gain those who are under the law; 21 to those who are without law, as without law (not being without law toward God, but under law toward Christ), that I might win those who are without law. 22 To the weak I became as weak, that I might gain the weak. I have become all things to all people, that I may by all means save some. 23 Now I do all things for the sake of the Good News, that I may be a joint partaker of it.

19 in the power of signs and wonders, in the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and around as far as to Illyricum, I have fully preached the Good News of Christ;

1 Corinthians 1:18-24

18 For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 22 For Jews ask for signs, and Greeks seek after wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to the non-Jews, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.

14 Now thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and reveals through us the sweet aroma of his knowledge in every place. 15 For we are a sweet aroma of Christ to God, in those who are saved, and in those who perish; 16 to the one a stench from death to death; to the other a sweet aroma from life to life. 5 because of the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, of which you heard before in the word of truth, the Good News, 6 which has come to you; even as it is in all the world and is bearing fruit and growing, as it does in you also, since the day you heard and knew the grace of God in truth;

1 Thessalonians 1:5-6

5 and that our Good News came to you not in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit, and with much assurance. You know what kind of persons we showed ourselves to be among you for your sake. 6 You became imitators of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit,

1 Thessalonians 2:13

13 For this cause we also thank God without ceasing, that, when you received from us the word of the message of God, you accepted it not as a human word, but, as it is in truth, the word of God, which also works in you who believe.

John 3:19-21

19 This is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light, because their works were evil. 20 For everyone who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, so that his works will not be exposed. 21 But the one who does the truth comes to the light, that his works may be revealed, that they have been done in God."

15 since they show the work of the law written on their hearts, their conscience bearing witness, and their thoughts either accusing or defending them, 16 in the day when God will judge the secrets of people, according to my Good News, by Christ Jesus. 17 But if you call yourself a Jew, and rely on the law, and boast in God, 18 and know his will, and approve the things that are excellent, being instructed out of the law, 19 and are confident that you yourself are a guide of the blind, a light to those who are in darkness, 20 a corrector of the foolish, a teacher of children, having in the law the embodiment of knowledge and truth. 21 You therefore who teach another, do you not teach yourself? You who preach against stealing, do you steal? 22 You who say that one should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who detest idols, do you rob temples? 23 You who boast in the law, do you, by disobeying the law, dishonor God?

Psalms 19:1-6

1 [For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by David.] The heavens declare the glory of God. The expanse shows his handiwork. 2 Day after day they pour forth speech, and night after night they display knowledge. 3 There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. 4 Their voice has gone out to all the earth, their words to the farthest part of the world. In them he has set a tent for the sun, 5 which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, like a strong man rejoicing to run his course. 6 His going forth is from the end of the heavens, his circuit to its ends; There is nothing hidden from its heat.

Acts 17:23-30

23 For as I passed along, and observed the objects of your worship, I found also an altar with this inscription: 'TO AN UNKNOWN GOD.' What therefore you worship in ignorance, this I announce to you. 24 The God who made the world and all things in it, he, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands, 25 neither is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he himself gives to all life and breath, and all things. 26 He made from one blood every nation of the human race to dwell on all the surface of the earth, having determined appointed seasons, and the boundaries of their dwellings, 27 that they should seek God, if perhaps they might reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. 28 'For in him we live, and move, and have our being.' As some of your own poets have said, 'For we are also his offspring.' 29 Being then the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold, or silver, or stone, engraved by human art and design. 30 The times of ignorance therefore God overlooked. Isaiah 44:9-20

9 Everyone who makes an engraved image is vain. The things that they delight in will not profit. Their own witnesses do not see, nor know, that they may be disappointed. 10 Who has fashioned a god, or molds an image that is profitable for nothing? 11 Look, all his fellows will be disappointed; and the workmen are mere men. Let them all be gathered together. Let them stand up. They will fear. They will be put to shame together. 12 The blacksmith takes an axe, works in the coals, fashions it with hammers, and works it with his strong arm. He is hungry, and his strength fails; he drinks no water, and is faint. 13 The carpenter stretches out a line. He marks it out with a pencil. He shapes it with planes. He marks it out with compasses, and shapes it like the figure of a man, with the beauty of a man, to reside in a house. 14 He cuts down cedars for himself, and takes the cypress and the oak, and strengthens for himself one among the trees of the forest. He plants a fir tree, and the rain nourishes it. 15 Then it will be for a man to burn; and he takes some of it, and warms himself. Yes, he burns it, and bakes bread. Yes, he makes a god, and worships it; he makes it an engraved image, and falls down to it. 16 He burns part of it in the fire. With part of it, he eats meat. He roasts a roast, and is satisfied. Yes, he warms himself, and says, "Aha. I am warm. I have seen the fire." 17 The rest of it he makes into a god, even his engraved image. He bows down to it and worships, and prays to it, and says, "Deliver me; for you are my god." 18 They do not know, neither do they consider: for he has shut their eyes, that they can't see; and their hearts, that they can't understand. 19 No one thinks, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, "I have burned part of it in the fire. Yes, I have also baked bread on its coals. I have roasted meat and eaten it. Shall I make the rest of it into an abomination? Shall I bow down to a tree trunk?" 20 He feeds on ashes. A deceived heart has turned him aside; and he can't deliver his soul, nor say, "Isn't there a lie in my right hand?"

Jeremiah 10:3-8

3 For the customs of the peoples are vanity; for one cuts a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman with the axe. 4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it not move. 5 They are like a palm tree, of turned work, and do not speak: they must be carried, because they can't go. Do not be afraid of them; for they can't do evil, neither is it in them to do good." 6 "There is none like you, LORD; you are great, and your name is great in might. 7 Who should not fear you, King of the nations? For it appertains to you; because among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their royal estate, there is none like you. 8 But they are together brutish and foolish, the instruction of idols. It is but wood.

Jeremiah 10:14-15

14 Every man has become brutish and without knowledge; every goldsmith is disappointed by his engraved image; for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them. 15 They are vanity, a work of delusion: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.

Jeremiah 16:19

So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust on him. 22 But if you tell me, 'We trust in the LORD our God;' isn't that he whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away, and has said to Judah and to Jerusalem, 'You shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem?' 23 Now therefore, please give pledges to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give you two thousand horses, if you are able on your part to set riders on them. 24 How then can you turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master's servants, and put your trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen? 25 Have I now come up without the LORD against this place to destroy it? The LORD said to me, 'Go up against this land, and destroy it.'"'" 26 Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebnah, and Joah, said to Rabshakeh, "Please speak to your servants in the Aramaic language; for we understand it. Do not speak with us in the Jews' language, in the hearing of the people who are on the wall." 27 But Rabshakeh said to them, "Has my master sent me to your master, and to you, to speak these words? Hasn't he sent me to the men who sit on the wall, to eat their own dung, and to drink their own water with you?" 28 Then Rabshakeh stood, and cried with a loud voice in the Jews' language, and spoke, saying, "Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria. 29 Thus says the king, 'Do not let Hezekiah deceive you; for he will not be able to deliver you out of my hand. 30 Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, "The LORD will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria." 31 Do not listen to Hezekiah.' For thus says the king of Assyria, 'Make your peace with me, and come out to me; and everyone of you eat of his vine, and everyone of his fig tree, and everyone drink the waters of his own cistern; 32 until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive trees and of honey, that you may live, and not die. Do not listen to Hezekiah, when he persuades you, saying, "The LORD will deliver us." 33 Has any of the gods of the nations ever delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria? 34 Where are the gods of Hamath, and of Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah? Have they delivered Samaria out of my hand? 35 Who are they among all the gods of the countries, that have delivered their country out of my hand, that the LORD should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?'" 36 But the people held their peace, and answered him not a word; for the king's commandment was, "Do not answer him." 37 Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, came with Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes torn, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.
