¹⁵ I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up. While I suffer your terrors, I am distracted.

⁴ For the arrows of Shaddai are within me. My spirit drinks up their poison. The terrors of God set themselves in array against me.

¹¹ "Therefore I will not keep silent. I will speak in the anguish of my spirit. I will complain in the bitterness of my soul. ¹² Am I a sea, or a sea monster, that you put a guard over me? ¹³ When I say, 'My bed shall comfort me. My couch shall ease my complaint;' ¹⁴ then you scare me with dreams, and terrify me through visions: ¹⁵ so that my soul chooses strangling, death rather than my bones. ¹⁶ I loathe my life. I do not want to live forever. Leave me alone, for my days are but a breath.

¹ "My spirit is consumed. My days are extinct, And the grave is ready for me.

¹¹ My days are past, my plans are broken off, as are the thoughts of my heart. ¹² They change the night into day, saying 'The light is near' in the presence of darkness. ¹³ If I look for Sheol as my house, if I have spread my couch in the darkness, ¹⁴ If I have said to corruption, 'You are my father;' to the worm, 'My mother,' and 'my sister;' ¹⁵ where then is my hope? As for my hope, who shall see it? ¹⁶ Shall it go down with me to the gates of Sheol, or descend together into the dust?"

¹⁴ I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart is like wax; it is melted within me. ¹⁵ My strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth; and you have brought me into the dust of death.

¹⁴ For all day long have I been plagued, and punished every morning.

³ He was despised, and rejected by people; a man of sorrows, and familiar with illness; and as one from whom people hide their face. He was despised, and we did not value him.

¹⁰ Yet the LORD was pleased to crush him and make him ill. Although his soul is made a reparation offering, he will see his offspring, he will prolong his days, and the desire of the LORD will succeed by his hand.

⁷ "Awake, sword, against my shepherd, and against the man who is close to me," says the LORD of hosts. "I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered; and I will turn my hand against the little ones.
