⁷ who stills the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, and the turmoil of the nations.

⁸ "Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it broke forth from the womb, ⁹ when I made clouds its garment, and wrapped it in thick darkness, ¹⁰ marked out for it my bound, set bars and doors, ¹¹ and said, 'Here you may come, but no further. Here your proud waves shall be stayed?'

¹ Why do the nations rage, and the peoples plot in vain? ² The kings of the earth take a stand, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his Anointed: ³ "Letʼs tear off their shackles, and throw off their ropes from us." ⁴ The one who sits in the heavens laughs. The LORD scoffs at them.

²³ Do not forget the voice of your adversaries. The tumult of those who rise up against you ascends continually.

¹⁰ Surely the wrath of man praises you. The survivors of your wrath are restrained.

⁹ You rule the pride of the sea. When its waves rise up, you calm them.

³ The floods have lifted up, LORD, the floods have lifted up their voice. The floods lift up their waves. ⁴ More majestic than the sounds of many waters, more majestic than the breakers of the sea, the LORD on high is majestic.

⁶ You covered it with the deep as with a cloak. The waters stood above the mountains. ⁷ At your rebuke they fled. At the voice of your thunder they hurried away. ⁸ The mountains rose, the valleys sank down, to the place which you had assigned to them. ⁹ You have set a boundary that they may not pass over; that they do not turn again to cover the earth.

²⁹ He makes the storm a calm, so that its waves are still.

¹² Ah, the uproar of many peoples, who roar like the roaring of the seas; and the rushing of nations, that rush like the rushing of mighty waters. ¹³ The nations will rush like the rushing of many waters: but he will rebuke them, and they will flee far off, and will be chased like the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like the whirling dust before the storm.

⁴ But the LORD sent out a great wind on the sea, and there was a mighty storm on the sea, so that the ship was likely to break up.

¹⁵ So they took up Jonah, and threw him into the sea; and the sea ceased its raging.

²⁶ And he said to them, "Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?" Then he got up, rebuked the wind and the sea, and there was a great calm. ²⁷ And the men were amazed, saying, "What kind of person is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?"

⁶ When therefore he said to them, "I AM," they went backward, and fell to the ground.
