¹ [By David.] Contend, LORD, with those who contend with me. Fight against those who fight against me. ² Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for my help. ³ Brandish the spear and block those who pursue me. Tell my soul, "I am your salvation." ⁴ Let those who seek after my soul be disappointed and brought to dishonor. Let those who plot my ruin be turned back and confounded. ⁵ Let them be as chaff before the wind, The LORD's angel driving them on. ⁶ Let their way be dark and slippery, The LORD's angel pursuing them. ⁷ For without cause they have hidden their net in a pit for me. Without cause they have dug a pit for my soul. ⁸ Let destruction come on him unawares. Let his net that he has hidden catch himself. Let him fall into that destruction. ⁹ My soul shall be joyful in the LORD. It shall rejoice in his salvation. ¹⁰ All my bones shall say, "LORD, who is like you, who delivers the poor from him who is too strong for him; yes, the poor and the needy from him who robs him?" ¹¹ Unrighteous witnesses rise up. They ask me about things that I do not know about. ¹² They reward me evil for good, to the bereaving of my soul. ¹³ But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth. I afflicted my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into my own bosom. ¹⁴ I behaved myself as though it had been my friend or my brother. I bowed down mourning, as one who mourns his mother. ¹⁵ But in my adversity, they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together. The attackers gathered themselves together against me, and I did not know it. They tore at me, and did not cease. ¹⁶ When I tripped, they mocked me relentlessly; they gnashed their teeth at me. ¹⁷ Lord, how long will you look on? Rescue my soul from their destruction, my precious life from the lions. ¹⁸ I will give you thanks in the great assembly. I will praise you among many people. ¹⁹ Do not let those who are my enemies wrongfully rejoice over me; neither let those who hate me without a cause and wink their eyes. ²⁰ For they do not speak peace, but they devise deceitful words against those who are quiet in the land. ²¹ Yes, they opened their mouth wide against me. They said, "Aha. Aha. Our eye has seen it." ²² You have seen it, LORD. Do not keep silent. Lord, do not be far from me. ²³ Wake up. Rise up to defend me, my God. My Lord, contend for me. ²⁴ Vindicate me, LORD my God, according to your righteousness. Do not let them gloat over me. ²⁵ Do not let them say in their heart, "Aha. Aha. Our desire." Do not let them say, "We have swallowed him up." ²⁶ Let them be put to shame and confounded together who rejoice at my calamity. Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor who magnify themselves against me. ²⁷ Let them shout for joy and be glad, who favor my righteous cause. And let them say continually, "The LORD be magnified, who delights in the peace of his servant." ²⁸ My tongue shall talk about your righteousness and about your praise all day long.

²⁵ He bound their chariot wheels, so that they drove them with difficulty. And the Egyptians said, "Let's flee from the face of Israel, for the LORD fights for them against the Egyptians."

⁴² Joshua took all these kings and their land at one time, because the LORD, the God of Israel, fought for Israel.

¹⁵ May the LORD therefore be judge and give sentence between me and you. May he see and plead my cause, and deliver me out of your hand."

²⁰ Wherever you hear the sound of the trumpet, rally there to us. Our God will fight for us."

¹ Vindicate me, God, and plead my cause against a faithless nation. Oh, deliver me from the deceitful and unjust man.

¹⁵⁴ Plead my cause, and redeem me. Revive me according to your promise.

²³ for the LORD will plead their case, and plunder the life of those who plunder them.

¹¹ for their Defender is strong. He will plead their case against you.

²⁵ But thus says the LORD, "Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the tyrant shall be delivered; for I will contend with him who contends with you, and I will save your children.

³⁶ Therefore thus says the LORD: "Look, I will plead your cause, and take vengeance for you; and I will dry up her sea, and make her fountain dry.

⁵⁸ LORD, you have taken up the case for my soul; you have redeemed my life.

⁹ I will bear the indignation of the LORD, because I have sinned against him, until he pleads my case, and executes judgment for me. He will bring me forth to the light. I will see his righteousness.

³⁹ But if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them, and you would be found even to be fighting against God."

⁹ A great clamor arose, and some of the scribes of the Pharisees part stood up, and contended, saying, "We find no evil in this man. What if a spirit spoke to him, or an angel?"

³ The LORD is a man of war. The LORD is his name.

⁴¹ if I sharpen my flashing sword and my hand takes hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to my adversaries, and will recompense those who hate me. ⁴² I will make my arrows drunk with blood. My sword shall devour flesh with the blood of the slain and the captives, from the head of the leaders of the enemy.'"

¹² If a man doesn't relent, he will sharpen his sword; he has bent and strung his bow. ¹³ He has also prepared for himself deadly weapons. He makes ready his flaming arrows.

⁴ He will cover you with his feathers. Under his wings you will take refuge. His truth is an encompassing shield.

⁵ They come from a far country, from the uttermost part of heaven, even the LORD, and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole land.

¹³ The LORD will go out like a mighty man. He will stir up zeal like a man of war. He will raise a war cry. Yes, he will shout aloud. He will triumph over his enemies.

¹⁸ I wait for your salvation, God.

²⁶ And Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain. And David was hurrying to get away for fear of Saul; for Saul and his men surrounded David and his men to take them. ²⁷ But a messenger came to Saul, saying, "Hurry and come; for the Philistines have made a raid on the land."

¹⁰ Haven't you made a hedge around him, and around his household, and around all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his livestock have increased in the land.

² When evildoers came at me to eat up my flesh, even my adversaries and my foes, they stumbled and fell.

¹² Restore to me the joy of your salvation. Uphold me with a willing spirit.

⁷ With God is my salvation and my honor. The rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.

¹⁰ Surely the wrath of man praises you. The survivors of your wrath are restrained.

¹⁶ I will satisfy him with long life, and show him my salvation."

⁹ Make an uproar, you peoples, and be broken in pieces. Listen, all you from far countries. Prepare for battle, and be shattered. ¹⁰ Take counsel together, and it will be brought to nothing; speak the word, and it will not stand: for God is with us."

¹² Therefore it will happen that, when the Lord has performed his whole work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, he will punish the fruit of the willful proud heart of the king of Assyria, and the insolence of his haughty looks.

² Look, in the God of my salvation I will trust, and will not be afraid. For the LORD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation."

³⁰ for my eyes have seen your salvation,

²⁸ to do whatever your hand and your council foreordained to happen.

²³ See therefore, and find out all the hiding places where he hides himself, and come back to me when you know for certain, and I will go with you. And it shall happen, if he is in the land, that I will search for him among all the thousands of Judah."

¹⁰ He said, "I have been very jealous for the LORD, the God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and slain your prophets with the sword, and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away."

¹⁷ Let me not be disappointed, LORD, for I have called on you. Let the wicked be disappointed. Let them be silent in Sheol. ¹⁸ Let the lying lips be mute, which speak against the righteous insolently, with pride and contempt.

²⁶ Let them be put to shame and confounded together who rejoice at my calamity. Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor who magnify themselves against me.

¹² They also who seek after my life lay snares. Those who seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and meditate deceits all day long.

¹⁴ Let them be put to shame and confounded together who seek after my soul to destroy it. Let them be turned backward and brought to dishonor who delight in my hurt. ¹⁵ Let them be desolate by reason of their shame that tell me, "Aha. Aha."

² Let them be put to shame and confounded who seek my soul. Let those who desire my ruin be turned back in disgrace. ³ Let them be turned back because of their shame who say to me, "Aha. Aha."

²⁴ My tongue will also talk about your righteousness all day long, for they are disappointed, and they are confounded, who want to harm me.

⁵ Let them be disappointed and turned backward, all those who hate Zion.

²⁹ Because of your raging against me, and because your arrogance has come up into my ears, therefore I will put my hook in your nose and my bridle in your lips, and I will turn you back by the way by which you came.

⁵ Why have I seen it? They are dismayed and are turned backward; and their mighty ones are beaten down, and have fled in haste, and do not look back: terror is on every side," says the LORD.

¹⁹ You have profaned me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to kill the souls who should not die, and to save the souls alive who should not live, by your lying to my people who listen to lies."

¹ Now when morning had come, all the chief priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:

⁶ When therefore he said to them, "I AM," they went backward, and fell to the ground.

¹⁹ The angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud moved from before them, and stood behind them.

¹⁸ How often is it that they are as stubble before the wind, as chaff that the storm carries away?

⁴ Not so with the wicked; instead, they are like the chaff which the wind drives away from the surface of the ground.

¹³ My God, make them like tumbleweed; like chaff before the wind. ¹⁴ As the fire that burns the forest, as the flame that sets the mountains on fire, ¹⁵ so pursue them with your tempest, and terrify them with your storm. ¹⁶ Fill their faces with confusion, that they may seek your name, LORD. ¹⁷ Let them be disappointed and dismayed forever. Yes, let them be confounded and perish;

¹³ The nations will rush like the rushing of many waters: but he will rebuke them, and they will flee far off, and will be chased like the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like the whirling dust before the storm.

⁵ But the multitude of your arrogant will be like fine dust, and the multitude of the ruthless ones like chaff that blows away. Yes, it will be in an instant, suddenly.

³⁶ The angel of the LORD went out and struck one hundred and eighty-five thousand men in the camp of the Assyrians. When men arose early in the morning, look, these were all dead bodies.

³ Therefore they will be like the morning mist, and like the dew that passes away early, like the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the threshing floor, and like the smoke out of the chimney.

²³ Immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and died.

²⁸ By faith, he kept the Passover, and the sprinkling of the blood, that the destroyer of the firstborn should not touch them.

¹⁸ Surely you set them in slippery places. You throw them down to destruction.

¹⁹ The way of the wicked is like darkness. They do not know what they stumble over.

¹⁶ Give glory to the LORD your God, before he causes darkness, and before your feet stumble on the dark mountains, and, while you look for light, he turns it into the shadow of death, and makes it gross darkness.

¹² "Therefore their way shall be to them as slippery places in the darkness: they shall be driven on, and fall in it; for I will bring evil on them, even the year of their visitation," says the LORD.

⁸ For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he wanders into its mesh.

³ LORD, my God, if I have done this, if there is iniquity in my hands, ⁴ if I have rewarded evil to him who was at peace with me, or oppressed my enemy without cause, ⁵ let the enemy pursue my soul, and overtake it; yes, let him tread my life down to the earth, and lay my glory in the dust. Selah.

¹⁵ The nations have fallen into the pit they had made. In the net which they hid, their feet are caught.

³ Yes, no one who waits for you shall be shamed. They shall be shamed who deal treacherously without cause.

⁴ to shoot innocent men from ambushes. They shoot at him suddenly and fearlessly.

⁴ Those who hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head. Those who want to cut me off, being my enemies wrongfully, are mighty. I have to restore what I did not take away.

⁸⁵ The proud have dug pits for me, contrary to your Law.

⁵ The proud have hidden a snare for me, they have spread the cords of a net by the path. They have set traps for me. Selah.

²⁵ But this happened so that the word may be fulfilled which is written in their law, 'They hated me without a cause.'

¹⁷ Saul said to David, "Look, my elder daughter Merob, I will give her to you as wife. Only be valiant for me, and fight the LORD's battles." For Saul said, "Do not let my hand be on him, but let the hand of the Philistines be on him."

² The Philistines followed hard on Saul and on his sons; and the Philistines killed Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malkishua, the sons of Saul. ³ The battle was fierce against Saul, and the archers found him, and he was wounded by the archers. ⁴ Then Saul said to his armor bearer, "Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and torture me." But his armor bearer would not; for he was terrified. Therefore Saul took his sword, and fell on it.

² I will come on him while he is weary and exhausted, and will make him afraid. All the people who are with him shall flee. I will strike the king only, ³ and I will bring back all the people to you, as a bride returns to her husband. You seek the life of only one man; then all the people will be in peace." ⁴ The saying pleased Absalom well, and all the elders of Israel.

²³ When Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his donkey, and arose, and went home, to his city, and set his house in order, and hanged himself; and he died, and was buried in the tomb of his father.

¹⁴ Then Joab said, "I'm not going to wait like this with you." He took three darts in his hand, and thrust them through the heart of Absalom, while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak. ¹⁵ Ten young men who bore Joab's armor surrounded and struck Absalom, and killed him.

¹⁰ So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then was the king's wrath pacified.

¹⁵ He has dug a hole, and has fallen into the pit which he made. ¹⁶ The trouble he causes shall return to his own head, and his violence shall come down on the crown of his own head.

⁶ They have prepared a net for my steps. My soul is bowed down. They dig a pit before me. They fall into its midst themselves. Selah.

⁷ But God will shoot at them. They will be suddenly struck down with an arrow.

¹⁸ Surely you set them in slippery places. You throw them down to destruction. ¹⁹ How they are suddenly destroyed. They are completely swept away with terrors. ²⁰ As a dream when one wakes up, so, Lord, when you awake, you will despise their fantasies.

⁹ Keep me from the snare which they have laid for me, from the traps of evildoers. ¹⁰ Let the wicked fall together into their own nets, while I pass by.

²² The evil deeds of the wicked ensnare him. The cords of his sin hold him firmly.

¹ He who is often rebuked and stiffens his neck will be destroyed suddenly, with no remedy.

¹¹ Therefore disaster will come on you; you won't know when it dawns: and calamity will fall on you; you will not be able to put it away: and desolation shall come on you suddenly and unexpectedly.

³ Then Judas, who betrayed him, when he saw that Jesus was condemned, felt remorse, and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, ⁴ saying, "I have sinned in that I betrayed innocent blood." But they said, "What is that to us? You see to it." ⁵ He threw down the pieces of silver in the sanctuary, and departed. He went away and hanged himself.

³⁴ "So be careful, or your hearts will be loaded down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that day will come on you suddenly.

³ Now when they are saying, "Peace and safety," then sudden destruction will come on them, like birth pains on a pregnant woman; and they will in no way escape.

¹ Hannah prayed, and said: "My heart exults in the LORD. My horn is exalted in my God. My mouth is enlarged over my enemies, because I rejoice in your salvation.

¹⁴ so that I may tell all your praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion. I will rejoice in your salvation.

⁵ But I trust in your loving kindness. My heart rejoices in your salvation.

¹ [For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by David.] The king rejoices in your strength, LORD. How greatly he rejoices in your salvation.

²¹ For our heart rejoices in him, because we have trusted in his holy name.

¹¹ Let Mount Zion be glad. Let the daughters of Judah rejoice, Because of your judgments.

¹⁰ The righteous shall rejoice when he sees the vengeance. He shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked; ¹¹ so that men shall say, "Most certainly there is a reward for the righteous. Most certainly there is a God who judges the earth."

¹ [For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by David. A song.] Let God arise. Let his enemies be scattered, and let them who hate him flee before him. ² As smoke is driven away, so drive them away. As wax melts before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God. ³ But let the righteous be glad. Let them rejoice before God. Yes, let them rejoice with gladness.

¹⁰ I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation, he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

¹⁸ yet I will rejoice in the LORD. I will be joyful in the God of my salvation.

⁴⁶ Mary said, "My soul magnifies the Lord. ⁴⁷ And my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,

²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

¹ Finally, my brothers, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you is no trouble to me, and is a safeguard for you. ² Beware of the dogs, beware of the evil workers, beware of the false circumcision. ³ For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh;

¹¹ Who is like you, LORD, among the gods? Who is like you, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?

¹⁵ But he saves from the sword of their mouth, even the needy from the hand of the mighty. ¹⁶ So the poor has hope, and injustice shuts her mouth.

¹⁹ He is chastened also with pain on his bed, with continual strife in his bones; ²⁰ So that his life abhors bread, and his soul choicest food. ²¹ His flesh is so consumed away, that it can't be seen. His bones that were not seen stick out. ²² Yes, his soul draws near to the pit, and his life to the destroyers. ²³ "If there is beside him an angel, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to show to man what is right for him; ²⁴ then he is gracious to him, and says, 'Deliver him from going down to the pit, I have found a ransom.' ²⁵ His flesh shall be fresher than a child's. He returns to the days of his youth.

¹⁴ But you do see trouble and grief. You consider it to take it into your hand. You help the victim and the fatherless.

¹⁷ He delivered me from my strong enemy, from those who hated me; for they were too mighty for me.

¹⁴ I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart is like wax; it is melted within me.

²⁴ For he has not despised or detested the affliction of the afflicted, nor has he hidden his face from him; but when he cried to him, he heard.

³ When I kept silence, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.

⁶ This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.

²⁰ He protects all of his bones. Not one of them is broken.

¹⁴ The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, to kill those who are upright in the way.

³ There is no soundness in my flesh because of your indignation, neither is there any health in my bones because of my sin.

⁸ Let me hear joy and gladness, That the bones which you have broken may rejoice.

³³ For the LORD hears the needy, and doesn't despise his captive people.

¹⁹ Your righteousness also, God, reaches to the heavens; you have done great things. God, who is like you?

⁸ There is no one like you among the gods, Lord, nor any deeds like your deeds.

⁶ For who in the skies can be compared to the LORD? Who among the sons of God is like the LORD, ⁷ a very awesome God in the council of the holy ones, to be feared above all those who are around him? ⁸ LORD, God of hosts, who is a mighty one like you, LORD? Your faithfulness is around you.

³ For my days consume away like smoke. My bones are burned like a hearth.

¹⁷ He has responded to the prayer of the destitute, and has not despised their prayer. ¹⁸ This will be written for the generation to come, that a people yet to be created may praise the LORD. ¹⁹ For he has looked down from the height of his sanctuary. From heaven, the LORD looked at the earth; ²⁰ to hear the groans of the prisoner; to free those who are condemned to death;

³¹ For he will stand at the right hand of the needy, to save him from those who judge his soul.

¹² I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and justice for the needy.

²² Do not exploit the poor, because he is poor; and do not crush the needy in court; ²³ for the LORD will plead their case, and plunder the life of those who plunder them.

¹⁸ To whom then will you liken God? Or what likeness will you compare to him?

²⁵ "To whom then will you liken me? Who is my equal?" says the Holy One.

⁷ Who should not fear you, King of the nations? For it appertains to you; because among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their royal estate, there is none like you.

⁹ David said to Saul, "Why do you listen to men's words, saying, 'Look, David seeks your harm?'

¹⁰ Nabal answered David's servants, and said, "Who is David? Who is the son of Jesse? There are many servants who break away from their masters these days.

¹² Do not deliver me over to the desire of my adversaries, for false witnesses have risen up against me, such as breathe out violence.

⁵⁹ Now the chief priests and the whole council sought false testimony against Jesus so they could put him to death; ⁶⁰ and they found none, even though many false witnesses came forward. But afterward two came forward,

¹³ and set up false witnesses who said, "This man never stops speaking blasphemous words against this holy place and the Law.

⁵ For we have found this man to be a plague, an instigator of insurrections among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes. ⁶ He even tried to profane the temple, and we arrested him. And we would have judged him according to our law,

¹² In the temple they did not find me disputing with anyone or stirring up a crowd, either in the synagogues, or in the city. ¹³ Nor can they prove to you the things of which they now accuse me.

⁴ Jonathan spoke good of David to Saul his father, and said to him, "Do not let the king sin against his servant, against David; because he has not sinned against you, and because his works have been very good toward you; ⁵ for he put his life in his hand, and struck the Philistine, and the LORD worked a great victory for all Israel. You saw it, and rejoiced. Why then will you sin against innocent blood, to kill David without a cause?"

¹⁵ Saul sent the messengers to see David, saying, "Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may kill him."

³¹ For as long as the son of Jesse lives on the earth, your kingdom will not be established. Therefore now send and bring him to me, for he shall surely die." ³² But Jonathan answered Saul, "Why should he be put to death? What has he done?" ³³ Then Saul raised his spear at him to strike him, and Jonathan realized that this evil from his father to kill David was determined.

¹³ Saul said to him, "Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse, in that you have given him bread, and a sword, and have inquired of God for him, that he should rise against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?" ¹⁴ Then Ahimelech answered the king, and said, "Who among all your servants is so faithful as David, who is the king's son-in-law, and a commander over your bodyguard, and honored in your house?

²⁰ They who also render evil for good are adversaries to me, because I follow what is good.

³ They have also surrounded me with words of hatred, and fought against me without a cause. ⁴ In return for my love, they are my adversaries; but I am in prayer. ⁵ They have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.

¹³ Whoever rewards evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.

²⁰ Shall evil be recompensed for good? For they have dug a pit for my soul. Remember how I stood before you to speak good for them, to turn away your wrath from them.

²¹ but they shouted, saying, "Crucify. Crucify him." ²² He said to them the third time, "Why? What evil has this man done? I have found no capital crime in him. I will therefore chastise him and release him." ²³ But they were urgent with loud voices, asking that he might be crucified. And their voices, and those of the chief priests, prevailed.

³² Jesus answered them, "I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of those works do you stone me?"

²⁹ "It shall be a statute to you forever: in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall humble your souls, and shall do no manner of work, both the native and the foreigner who sojourns in your midst:

³¹ It is a Sabbath of solemn rest to you, and you shall afflict your souls; it is a statute forever.

²⁷ It happened, when Ahab heard those words, that he tore his clothes, and put sackcloth on his flesh, and fasted, and lay in sackcloth, and went softly. ²⁸ The word of the LORD came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, ²⁹ "See how Ahab humbles himself before me? Because he humbles himself before me, I will not bring the disaster in his days; but in his son's days will I bring the disaster on his house."

²⁵ Did I not weep for him who was in trouble? Wasn't my soul grieved for the needy?

¹⁰ When I wept and I fasted, it brought me insults. ¹¹ When I made sackcloth my clothing, I became a byword to them.

³ 'Why have we fasted,' say they, 'and you do not see? Why have we afflicted our soul, and you take no knowledge?' "Look, in the day of your fast you find pleasure, and exact all your labors.

⁵ Is such the fast that I have chosen? the day for a man to afflict his soul? Is it to bow down his head as a rush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? Will you call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the LORD?

⁴⁴ But I tell you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you,

¹⁴ Then John's disciples came to him, saying, "Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but your disciples do not fast?" ¹⁵ And Jesus said to them, "Can the friends of the bridegroom mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.

¹³ And if the household is worthy, let your peace come on it, but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you.

⁶ If a peaceful person is there, your peace will rest on him; but if not, it will return to you.

¹⁴ Bless those who persecute you; bless, and do not curse. ¹⁵ Rejoice with those who rejoice. Weep with those who weep.

⁶⁷ Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah's tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife. He loved her. Isaac was comforted after his mother's death.

¹¹ Then David took hold on his clothes, and tore them; and likewise all the men who were with him. ¹² They mourned, and wept, and fasted until evening, for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of the LORD, and for the house of Israel; because they had fallen by the sword.

¹⁷ And David lamented with this lamentation over Saul and over Jonathan his son, ¹⁸ and said it should be taught to the people of Judah. Look, it is written in the book of Jashar. ¹⁹ "Your glory, Israel, is slain on your high places. How the mighty have fallen. ²⁰ Do not tell it in Gath. Do not publish it in the streets of Ashkelon, lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, lest the daughters of the uncircumcised triumph. ²¹ You mountains of Gilboa, let there be no dew nor rain on you, nor fields of offerings. For there the shield of the mighty was vilely cast away. The shield of Saul was not anointed with oil. ²² From the blood of the slain, from the fat of the mighty, Jonathan's bow did not turn back. Saul's sword did not return empty. ²³ Saul and Jonathan, beloved and lovely, not separated. Lovely in their life, and in their death they were not separated. They were swifter than eagles. They were stronger than lions. ²⁴ You daughters of Israel, weep over Saul, who clothed you luxuriously in scarlet, who put ornaments of gold on your clothing. ²⁵ How are the mighty fallen in the midst of the battle. Jonathan is slain on your high places. ²⁶ I grieve for you, my brother Jonathan. You have been very pleasant to me. Your love for me was a wonder, more than the love of women. ²⁷ How are the mighty fallen, and the weapons of war perished."

⁶ I am pained and bowed down greatly. I go mourning all day long.

⁴¹ When he drew near, he saw the city and wept over it, ⁴² saying, "If you, even you, had known today the things that make for peace. But now, they are hidden from your eyes.

⁹ He has torn me in his wrath, and persecuted me. He has gnashed on me with his teeth. My adversary sharpens his eyes on me.

¹ "But now those who are younger than I have me in derision, whose fathers I would have disdained to put with my sheep dogs. ² Of what use is the strength of their hands to me, men in whom ripe age has perished? ³ They are gaunt from lack and famine. They gnaw the dry ground, in the gloom of waste and desolation. ⁴ They pluck salt herbs by the bushes. The roots of the broom are their food. ⁵ They are driven out from the midst of men. They cry after them as after a thief; ⁶ So that they dwell in frightful valleys, and in holes of the earth and of the rocks. ⁷ Among the bushes they bray; and under the nettles they are gathered together. ⁸ They are children of fools, yes, children of base men. They were flogged out of the land. ⁹ "Now I have become their song. Yes, I am a byword to them. ¹⁰ They abhor me, they keep their distance from me, and do not hesitate to spit in my face. ¹¹ For he has untied his cord, and afflicted me; and they have thrown off restraint before me. ¹² On my right hand rise the rabble. They thrust aside my feet, They cast up against me their ways of destruction.

²⁹ "If I have rejoiced at the destruction of him who hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him;

² lest they tear apart my soul like a lion, ripping it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.

¹⁶ For many dogs have surrounded me. A company of evildoers have enclosed me. They have pierced my hands and my feet.

⁸ Let destruction come on him unawares. Let his net that he has hidden catch himself. Let him fall into that destruction.

²⁵ Do not let them say in their heart, "Aha. Aha. Our desire." Do not let them say, "We have swallowed him up." ²⁶ Let them be put to shame and confounded together who rejoice at my calamity. Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor who magnify themselves against me.

¹⁷ For I am ready to fall. My pain is continually before me.

⁸ "A wicked thing is poured out on him; and he who lies down will not rise again."

⁴ My soul is among lions. I lie among those who are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

¹² Those who sit in the gate talk about me. I am the song of the drunkards.

¹⁰ For my enemies talk about me. Those who watch for my soul conspire together, ¹¹ saying, "God has forsaken him. Pursue and take him, for no one will rescue him."

⁵ Whoever mocks the poor reproaches his Maker. He who is glad at calamity shall not be unpunished.

¹⁷ Do not rejoice when your enemy falls. Do not let your heart be glad when he is overthrown; ¹⁸ lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.

¹⁰ For I have heard the defaming of many, terror on every side. "Denounce, and we will denounce him," say all my familiar friends, those who watch for my fall; "perhaps he will be persuaded, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him."

²⁷ Then the governor's soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium, and gathered the whole garrison together against him. ²⁸ They stripped him, and put a scarlet robe on him. ²⁹ They braided a crown of thorns and put it on his head, and a reed in his right hand; and they kneeled down before him, and mocked him, saying, "Greetings, King of the Jews." ³⁰ They spat on him, and took the reed and struck him on the head.

³⁹ Those who passed by blasphemed him, wagging their heads, ⁴⁰ and saying, "You who destroy the temple, and build it in three days, save yourself. If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross." ⁴¹ Likewise the chief priests also mocking, with the scribes, and the elders, said, ⁴² "He saved others, but he cannot save himself. If he is the King of Israel, let him come down from the cross now, and we will believe in him. ⁴³ He trusts in God. Let God deliver him now, if he wants him; for he said, 'I am the Son of God.'" ⁴⁴ The robbers also who were crucified with him insulted him in the same way.

⁶⁵ Some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to beat him with fists, and to tell him, "Prophesy." And the officers took him and beat him.

⁵ But the Jews, being moved with jealousy, took along some wicked men from the marketplace, and gathering a crowd, set the city in an uproar. Assaulting the house of Jason, they sought to bring them out to the people.

⁶ does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth;

²⁴ So David hid himself in the field. And when the new moon had come, the king sat at the table to eat. ²⁵ The king sat on his seat, as at other times, even on the seat by the wall; and Jonathan sat opposite, and Abner sat by Saul's side: but David's place was empty. ²⁶ Nevertheless Saul did not say anything that day: for he thought, "Something has happened to him. He is not clean. Surely he is not clean." ²⁷ It happened on the next day after the new moon, the second day, that David's place was empty. Saul said to Jonathan his son, "Why hasn't the son of Jesse come to the table, either yesterday or today?" ²⁸ Jonathan answered Saul, and said, "David earnestly asked leave of me to go to Bethlehem. ²⁹ He said, 'Please let me go, for our family has a sacrifice in the city. And as for me, my brothers have ordered me to be there. Now, if I have found favor in your eyes, please let me go away and see my brothers.' Therefore he has not come to the king's table." ³⁰ Then Saul's anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said to him, "You son of a perverse rebellious woman, do I not know that you are the companion of the son of Jesse to your own shame, and to the shame of your mother's nakedness? ³¹ For as long as the son of Jesse lives on the earth, your kingdom will not be established. Therefore now send and bring him to me, for he shall surely die." ³² But Jonathan answered Saul, "Why should he be put to death? What has he done?" ³³ Then Saul raised his spear at him to strike him, and Jonathan realized that this evil from his father to kill David was determined. ³⁴ So Jonathan sprang up from the table in fierce anger, and ate no food the second day of the month; for he was grieved for David, because his father had dishonored him. ³⁵ It happened in the morning, that Jonathan went out into the field at the time appointed with David, and a little boy with him. ³⁶ He said to the boy, "Run, find now the arrows which I shoot." And as the boy ran, he shot an arrow, causing it to pass beyond, toward the city. ³⁷ When the boy had come to the place of the arrow which Jonathan had shot, Jonathan called after the youth, and said, "Isn't the arrow beyond you?" ³⁸ Jonathan cried after the boy, "Go fast. Hurry. Do not delay." Jonathan's boy gathered up the arrows, and came to his master. ³⁹ But the boy did not know anything. Only Jonathan and David knew the matter. ⁴⁰ Jonathan gave his weapons to his boy, and said to him, "Go, carry them to the city." ⁴¹ As soon as the boy was gone, David arose from beside the mound, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times. They kissed one another, and wept one with another, and David wept the most. ⁴² Jonathan said to David, "Go in peace, because we have both sworn in the name of the LORD, saying, 'The LORD shall be between me and you, and between my descendants and your descendants, forever.'" He arose and departed; and Jonathan went into the city.

¹² The wicked plots against the just, and gnashes at him with his teeth.

¹⁴ My soul hates your New Moons and your appointed feasts. They are a burden to me. I am weary of bearing them. ¹⁵ When you spread forth your hands, I will hide my eyes from you. Yes, when you make many prayers, I will not hear. Your hands are full of blood.

¹⁶ All your enemies have opened wide their mouth against you. They hiss and gnash the teeth; they say, "We have swallowed her up. Certainly this is the day that we looked for; we have found, we have seen it."

²⁸ They led Jesus therefore from Caiaphas into the Praetorium. It was early, and they themselves did not enter into the Praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but might eat the Passover.

⁵⁴ Now when they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed at him with their teeth.

⁸ Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old yeast, neither with the yeast of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

³ And my soul is greatly troubled. But you, LORD, how long?

¹ [For the Chief Musician. A Psalm by David.] How long, LORD? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? ² How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart every day? How long shall my enemy triumph over me?

²⁰ Deliver my soul from the sword, my precious life from the power of the dog. ²¹ Save me from the lion's mouth. Yes, from the horns of the wild oxen, you have answered me.

¹⁴ Deliver me out of the mire, and do not let me sink. Let me be delivered from those who hate me, and out of the deep waters. ¹⁵ Do not let the flood waters overwhelm me, neither let the deep swallow me up. Do not let the pit shut its mouth on me.

⁹ We see no miraculous signs. There is no longer any prophet, neither is there among us anyone who knows how long. ¹⁰ How long, God, shall the enemy mock? Shall the enemy blaspheme your name forever?

⁴⁶ How long, LORD? Will you hide yourself forever? Will your wrath burn like fire?

³ LORD, how long will the wicked, how long will the wicked triumph? ⁴ They pour out arrogant words. All the evildoers boast.

⁶ Listen to my cry, for I am in desperate need. Deliver me from my persecutors, for they are stronger than me. ⁷ Bring my soul out of prison, that I may give thanks to your name. The righteous will surround me, for you will be good to me.

¹³ You who have purer eyes than to see evil, and who cannot look on perversity, why do you tolerate those who deal treacherously, and keep silent when the wicked swallows up the man who is more righteous than he,

²² I will declare your name to my brothers. In the midst of the assembly I will praise you. ²³ You who fear the LORD, praise him. All you descendants of Jacob, glorify him. Revere him, all you descendants of Israel. ²⁴ For he has not despised or detested the affliction of the afflicted, nor has he hidden his face from him; but when he cried to him, he heard. ²⁵ Of you comes my praise in the great assembly. I will pay my vows before those who fear him.

³¹ They shall come and shall declare his righteousness to a people that shall be born, for he has done it.

⁹ I have proclaimed glad news of righteousness in the great assembly. Look, I will not seal my lips, LORD, you know. ¹⁰ I have not hidden your righteousness within my heart. I have declared your faithfulness and your salvation. I have not concealed your loving kindness and your truth from the great assembly.

Selah. ² That your way may be known on earth, and your salvation among all nations, ³ let the peoples praise you, God. Let all the peoples praise you. ⁴ Let the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you will judge the world in righteousness. You will judge the peoples with equity, and guide the nations on earth.

³⁰ I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving. ³¹ It will please the LORD better than an ox, or a bull that has horns and hoofs. ³² The humble will see it and rejoice. You who seek after God, let your heart live. ³³ For the LORD hears the needy, and doesn't despise his captive people. ³⁴ Let heaven and earth praise him; the seas, and everything that moves in them.

¹ Praise the LORD. I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart, in the council of the upright, and in the congregation.

¹⁴ I will pay my vows to the LORD, yes, in the presence of all his people.

¹⁸ I will pay my vows to the LORD, yes, in the presence of all his people,

¹ Praise the LORD, all you nations. Praise him, all you peoples. ² For his loving kindness is great toward us. The LORD's faithfulness endures forever. Praise the LORD.

⁴ All the kings of the earth will give you thanks, LORD, for they have heard the words of your mouth. ⁵ Yes, they will sing of the ways of the LORD; for great is the LORD's glory.

³ Therefore a strong people will glorify you. A city of awesome nations will fear you.

⁹ and that the non-Jews might glorify God for his mercy. As it is written, "therefore I will give praise to you among the non-Jews, and sing to your name."

¹² saying, "I will declare your name to my brothers. In the midst of the assembly I will praise you."

¹¹ Moreover, my father, look, yes, see the skirt of your robe in my hand; for in that I cut off the skirt of your robe, and did not kill you, know and see that there is neither evil nor disobedience in my hand, and I have not sinned against you, though you hunt for my life to take it. ¹² May the LORD judge between me and you, and may the LORD avenge me of you; but my hand shall not be on you.

¹² Why does your heart carry you away? Why do your eyes flash,

⁴ Lest my enemy say, "I have prevailed against him," and my adversaries rejoice when I fall.

² My God, I have trusted in you. Do not let me be shamed. Do not let my enemies triumph over me.

¹⁵ But in my adversity, they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together. The attackers gathered themselves together against me, and I did not know it. They tore at me, and did not cease.

¹⁶ For I said, "Do not let them gloat over me, or exalt themselves over me when my foot slips."

¹⁹ But my enemies, for no reason, are many. Those who hate me wrongfully are numerous.

³ They have also surrounded me with words of hatred, and fought against me without a cause.

¹⁶¹ SIN and SHIN. Princes have persecuted me without a cause, but my heart stands in awe of your words.

¹³ who winks with his eyes, who signals with his feet, who motions with his fingers;

¹⁰ The one who winks with the eye causes trouble, but the one who boldly rebukes makes peace.

⁵² They have chased me relentlessly like a bird, those who are my enemies without cause.

²⁰ Truly, truly, I tell you, that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy. ²¹ A woman, when she gives birth, has pain, because her time has come. But when she has delivered the child, she does not remember the anguish any more, for the joy that a human being is born into the world. ²² Therefore you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.

⁷ When they have finished their testimony, the beast that comes up out of the abyss will make war with them, and overcome them, and kill them. ⁸ Their dead bodies will be in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified. ⁹ From among the peoples, tribes, languages, and nations people will look at their dead bodies for three and a half days, and will not allow their dead bodies to be placed in a tomb. ¹⁰ Those who dwell on the earth rejoice over them, and they will be glad. They will give gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented those who dwell on the earth.

¹³ For I have heard the slander of many, terror on every side, while they conspire together against me, they plot to take away my life.

³ The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit. He has ceased to be wise and to do good. ⁴ He plots iniquity on his bed. He sets himself in a way that is not good. He doesn't abhor evil.

² Your tongue plots destruction, like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.

⁴ to shoot innocent men from ambushes. They shoot at him suddenly and fearlessly. ⁵ They encourage themselves in evil plans. They talk about laying snares secretly. They say, "Who will see them?" ⁶ They plot injustice; they hide a well-conceived plan. Surely man's mind and heart are cunning.

⁵ Woe is me, that I live in Meshech, that I dwell among the tents of Kedar. ⁶ My soul has had her dwelling too long with him who hates peace. ⁷ I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war.

² those who devise mischief in their hearts. They continually gather themselves together for war. ³ They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent. Viper's poison is under their lips. Selah. ⁴ LORD, keep me from the hands of the wicked. Preserve me from the violent men who have determined to trip my feet. ⁵ The proud have hidden a snare for me, they have spread the cords of a net by the path. They have set traps for me. Selah.

¹⁹ But I was like a gentle lamb that is led to the slaughter; and I did not know that they had devised devices against me, saying, "Let us destroy the tree with its fruit, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered."

⁵ Then these men said, "We will not find any charge against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God."

¹⁹ He will not quarrel, nor shout; nor will anyone hear his voice in the streets.

²⁴ But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, "This man does not cast out demons, except by Beelzebul, the prince of the demons."

⁴ They took counsel together that they might take Jesus by deceit, and kill him.

¹⁵ Now therefore, you with the council inform the commanding officer that he should bring him down to you, as though you were going to judge his case more exactly. We are ready to kill him before he comes near."

³ asking a favor against him, that he would summon him to Jerusalem; plotting to kill him on the way.

²² who "committed no sin, nor was deceit found in his mouth." ²³ Who, when he was cursed, did not curse back. When he suffered, did not threaten, but committed himself to him who judges righteously;

¹³ They open their mouths wide against me, like a lion tearing prey and roaring.

¹⁵ Let them be desolate by reason of their shame that tell me, "Aha. Aha."

⁷ For he has delivered me out of all trouble. My eye has seen triumph over my enemies.

³ Let them be turned back because of their shame who say to me, "Aha. Aha."

¹² The Arameans in front, and the Philistines behind; and they will devour Israel with open mouth. For all this, his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

⁵³ And when he left there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to oppose him bitterly, and to provoke him to speak about many things; ⁵⁴ lying in wait for him, seeking to catch him in something he might say, that they might accuse him.

⁷ The LORD said, "I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows.

¹ Why do you stand far off, LORD? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?

¹¹ Do not be far from me, for trouble is near. For there is none to help.

¹⁹ But do not be far off, LORD. You are my help: hurry to help me.

¹ [By David.] To you, LORD, I call. My rock, do not be deaf to me; lest, if you are silent to me, I would become like those who go down into the pit.

²¹ Do not forsake me, LORD. My God, do not be far from me.

¹² "Hear my prayer, LORD, and give ear to my cry. Do not be silent at my tears. For I am a stranger with you, a foreigner, as all my fathers were.

²¹ You have done these things, and I kept silent. You thought that I was just like you. I will rebuke you, and accuse you in front of your eyes.

¹² God, do not be far from me. My God, hurry to help me.

⁶ "Look, it is written before me: I will not keep silence, but will recompense, yes, I will recompense into their bosom,

³⁴ I have surely seen the affliction of my people that is in Egypt, and have heard their groaning. I have come down to deliver them. Now come, I will send you to Egypt.'

⁶ Arise, LORD, in your anger. Lift up yourself against the rage of my adversaries. Awake, my God; you have appointed judgment.

²³ Wake up. Why do you sleep, Lord? Arise. Do not reject us forever.

⁴ I have done no wrong, yet they are ready to attack me. Rise up, look, and help me.

² Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh, stir up your might. Come to save us.

²⁶ He will call to me, 'You are my Father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.'

⁵ I cried to you, LORD. I said, "You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living."

⁹ Awake, awake, put on strength, arm of the LORD; awake, as in the days of old, the generations of ancient times. Isn't it you who cut Rahab in pieces, who pierced the monster?

²⁸ Thomas answered and said to him, "My Lord and my God."

⁵ that the triumphing of the wicked is short, the joy of the godless but for a moment?

⁸ The LORD administers judgment to the peoples. Judge me, LORD, according to my righteousness, and to my integrity that is in me.

²⁰ The LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness. According to the cleanness of my hands has he recompensed me. ²¹ For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God. ²² For all his ordinances were before me. I did not put away his statutes from me. ²³ I was also blameless with him. I kept myself from my iniquity. ²⁴ Therefore the LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his eyesight.

¹ [By David.] Judge me, LORD, for I have walked in my integrity. I have trusted also in LORD without wavering.

¹⁹ Do not let those who are my enemies wrongfully rejoice over me; neither let those who hate me without a cause and wink their eyes.

⁶ Since it is a righteous thing with God to repay affliction to those who afflict you,

²² who "committed no sin, nor was deceit found in his mouth."

⁹ The enemy said, 'I will pursue. I will overtake. I will divide the spoil. My desire shall be satisfied on them. I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.'

¹⁹ that which the faithful of Israel established has been carried out.ʼ You seek to destroy a city and a mother in Israel. Why do you want to swallow up the inheritance of the LORD?"

⁵ It was so, when the days of their feasting had run their course, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all. For Job said, "It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts." Job did so continually.

³ Do not draw me away with the wicked, with evildoers who speak peace with their neighbors, but mischief is in their hearts.

⁸ They said in their heart, "We will crush them completely." They have burned up all the places in the land where God was worshiped.

³ then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their wrath was kindled against us;

⁸ LORD, do not grant the desires of the wicked. Do not let their evil plans succeed, or they will become proud. Selah.

⁴³ He trusts in God. Let God deliver him now, if he wants him; for he said, 'I am the Son of God.'"

⁶ But there were some of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,

⁸ And immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, said to them, "Why do you reason these things in your hearts?

⁵⁴ But when this corruptible will have put on incorruption, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then what is written will happen: "Death is swallowed up in victory."

²² Those who hate you shall be clothed with shame. The tent of the wicked shall be no more."

⁵ If indeed you will magnify yourselves against me, and plead my disgrace against me;

⁴ Let those who seek after my soul be disappointed and brought to dishonor. Let those who plot my ruin be turned back and confounded.

¹² For it was not an enemy who insulted me, then I could have endured it. Neither was it he who hated me who raised himself up against me, then I would have hid myself from him.

¹³ Let my accusers be put to shame and consumed. Let them be covered with disgrace and scorn who want to harm me.

²⁸ They may curse, but you bless. When they arise, they will be shamed, but your servant shall rejoice. ²⁹ Let my adversaries be clothed with dishonor. Let them cover themselves with their own shame as with a robe.

¹⁸ I will clothe his enemies with shame, but on himself, his crown will be resplendent."

¹¹ Look, all those who are incensed against you will be disappointed and confounded. Those who strive with you will be like nothing, and shall perish.

¹³ Therefore thus says the Lord GOD, "Look, my servants shall eat, but you shall be hungry; look, my servants shall drink, but you shall be thirsty; look, my servants shall rejoice, but you shall be disappointed; ¹⁴ look, my servants shall sing in gladness of heart, but you shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall wail for anguish of spirit. ¹⁵ You shall leave your name for a curse to my chosen; and the Lord GOD will kill you; and he will call his servants by another name:

²⁶ 'Make him drunk; for he magnified himself against the LORD: and Moab shall wallow in his vomit, and he also shall be in derision.

³⁶ And the king shall do as he pleases. And he shall exalt and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak outrageous things against the God of gods. And he shall prosper until the indignation is accomplished; for that which is decreed shall be done.

⁵ Likewise, you younger ones, be subject to the elder. Yes, all of you clothe yourselves with humility, towards one another; for God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

⁴ For you have upheld my just cause. You sit on the throne judging righteously.

¹¹ Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, you righteous. Shout for joy, all you who are upright in heart.

¹⁶ Let all those who seek you rejoice and be glad in you. Let such as love your salvation say continually, "Let the LORD be exalted."

³ But let the righteous be glad. Let them rejoice before God. Yes, let them rejoice with gladness.

⁴ Let all those who seek you rejoice and be glad in you. Let those who love your salvation continually say, "Let God be exalted."

⁹ Let your priest be clothed with righteousness. Let your faithful ones shout for joy."

¹⁶ Her priests I will also clothe with salvation. Her faithful ones will shout aloud for joy.

⁷ Bring my soul out of prison, that I may give thanks to your name. The righteous will surround me, for you will be good to me.

¹¹ The LORD takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his loving kindness.

⁴ For the LORD takes pleasure in his people. He crowns the humble with salvation.

¹⁸ With me are riches, honor, enduring wealth, and prosperity.

¹⁰ "Rejoice with Jerusalem, and be glad for her, all you who love her: rejoice for joy with her, all you who mourn over her; ¹¹ that you may nurse and be satisfied at the comforting breasts; that you may drink deeply, and be delighted with the abundance of her glory."

⁴⁰ and I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from following them, to do them good; and I will put my fear in their hearts, that they may not depart from me. ⁴¹ Yes, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with my whole heart and with my whole soul.'

¹⁴ Sing, daughter of Zion. Shout, Israel. Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, daughter of Jerusalem.

¹⁷ The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save. He will rejoice over you with joy. He will calm you in his love. He will rejoice over you with singing.

²² Therefore you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.

¹⁵ Rejoice with those who rejoice. Weep with those who weep.

²⁶ When one member suffers, all the members suffer with it. Or when one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.

¹⁴ Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, the God of my salvation. My tongue shall sing aloud of your righteousness. ¹⁵ Lord, open my lips. My mouth shall declare your praise.

¹⁵ My mouth will tell about your righteousness, and of your salvation all day, though I do not know its full measure.

³³ I will sing to the LORD all my life. I will sing praise to my God as long as I exist. ³⁴ Let your meditation be sweet to him. I will rejoice in the LORD.
