² and you shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; you shall break down their altars.' ⁵ The children of Israel lived among the Canaanites, the Hethites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites: ⁶ and they took their daughters to be their wives, and gave their own daughters to their sons and served their gods.

⁶ For you have forsaken your people, the house of Jacob, because they are filled from the east, with those who practice divination like the Philistines, and they clasp hands with the children of foreigners.

⁶ Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little yeast leavens the whole lump?
