¹ The children of Israel, even the whole congregation, came into the wilderness of Zin in the first month: and the people stayed in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there. ² There was no water for the congregation: and they assembled themselves together against Moses and against Aaron. ³ The people strove with Moses, and spoke, saying, "We wish that we had died when our brothers died before the LORD. ⁴ Why have you brought the assembly of the LORD into this wilderness, that we should die there, we and our animals? ⁵ Why have you made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in to this evil place? It is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink." ⁶ Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly to the door of the Tent of Meeting, and fell on their faces: and the glory of the LORD appeared to them. ⁷ The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, ⁸ "Take the rod, and assemble the congregation, you, and Aaron your brother, and speak to the rock before their eyes, that it give forth its water; and you shall bring forth to them water out of the rock; so you shall give the congregation and their livestock drink." ⁹ Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him. ¹⁰ Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock, and he said to them, "Hear now, you rebels; shall we bring you water out of this rock for you?" ¹¹ Moses lifted up his hand, and struck the rock with his rod twice: and water came forth abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their livestock. ¹² The LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you did not believe in me, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them." ¹³ These are the waters of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with the LORD, and he was sanctified in them. ¹⁴ Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom, saying: "Thus says your brother Israel: You know all the travail that has happened to us: ¹⁵ how our fathers went down into Egypt, and we lived in Egypt a long time; and the Egyptians dealt ill with us, and our fathers: ¹⁶ and when we cried to the LORD, he heard our voice, and sent an angel, and brought us forth out of Egypt: and look, we are in Kadesh, a city in the uttermost of your border. ¹⁷ "Please let us pass through your land: we will not pass through field or through vineyard, neither will we drink of the water of the wells: we will go along the king's highway; we will not turn aside to the right hand nor to the left, until we have passed your border." ¹⁸ Edom said to him, "You shall not pass through me, lest I come out with the sword against you." ¹⁹ The children of Israel said to him, "We will go up by the highway; and if we drink of your water, I and my livestock, then will I give its price: let me only, without doing anything else, pass through on my feet." ²⁰ He said, "You shall not pass through." Edom came out against him with many people, and with a strong hand. ²¹ Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border, so Israel turned away from him. ²² They traveled from Kadesh: and the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, came to Mount Hor. ²³ The LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron in Mount Hor, by the border of the land of Edom, saying, ²⁴ "Aaron shall be gathered to his people; for he shall not enter into the land which I have given to the children of Israel, because you rebelled against my word at the waters of Meribah. ²⁵ Take Aaron and Eleazar his son, and bring them up to Mount Hor; ²⁶ and strip Aaron of his garments, and put them on Eleazar his son: and Aaron shall be taken, and shall die there." ²⁷ Moses did as the LORD commanded: and they went up into Mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation. ²⁸ Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them on Eleazar his son; and Aaron died there on the top of the mountain: and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain. ²⁹ When all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they wept for Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.

⁴ And his sister stood at a distance, to see what would be done to him.

⁷ Then his sister said to Pharaoh's daughter, "Should I go and call a nurse for you from the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for you?"

²⁰ Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a tambourine in her hand; and all the women went out after her with tambourines and with dances.

¹ Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman whom he had married; for he had married a Cushite woman.

¹⁰ The cloud departed from over the Tent; and look, Miriam was leprous, as white as snow. Aaron looked at Miriam, and look, she was leprous.

¹⁵ Miriam was shut up outside of the camp seven days, and the people did not travel until Miriam was brought in again.

²¹ So they went up, and spied out the land from the wilderness of Zin to Rehob, to Lebo Hamath.

¹⁴ because you rebelled against my word in the wilderness of Zin, in the strife of the congregation, to sanctify me at the waters before their eyes." (These are the waters of Meribah of Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.)

²² You came near to me everyone of you, and said, "Let us send men before us, that they may search the land for us, and bring us word again of the way by which we must go up, and the cities to which we shall come." ²³ The thing pleased me well; and I took twelve men of you, one man for every tribe:

²³ When they came to Marah, they couldn't drink from the waters of Marah, for they were bitter. Therefore its name was called Marah. ²⁴ The people murmured against Moses, saying, "What shall we drink?"

² The whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron in the wilderness;

⁷ and in the morning, then you shall see the glory of the LORD, because he has heard your murmurings against God. Who are we, that you murmur against us?"

¹² "I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel. Speak to them, saying, 'At evening you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread: and you shall know that I am the LORD your God.'"

¹ All the congregation of the children of Israel traveled from the wilderness of Sin, by their journeys, according to the LORD's commandment, and camped in Rephidim; but there was no water for the people to drink. ² Therefore the people quarreled with Moses, and said, "Give us water to drink." Moses said to them, "Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test the LORD?" ³ The people were thirsty for water there; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, "Why have you brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us, our children, and our livestock with thirst?" ⁴ Moses cried to the LORD, saying, "What shall I do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me."

¹ The people were complaining in the ears of the LORD. When the LORD heard it, his anger was kindled; and the LORD's fire burnt among them, and consumed some of the outskirts of the camp. ² The people cried to Moses; and Moses prayed to the LORD, and the fire abated. ³ The name of that place was called Taberah, because the LORD's fire burnt among them. ⁴ The mixed multitude that was among them lusted exceedingly: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, "Who will give us flesh to eat? ⁵ We remember the fish, which we ate in Egypt for nothing; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlic; ⁶ but now we have lost our appetite. There is nothing at all except this manna to look at."

³ and they assembled themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said to them, "You take too much on yourself, since all the congregation are holy, everyone of them, and the LORD is among them: why then lift yourselves up above the assembly of the LORD?"

¹⁹ Korah assembled all the congregation against them to the door of the Tent of Meeting: and the glory of the LORD appeared to all the congregation.

⁴² It happened, when the congregation was assembled against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the Tent of Meeting: and look, the cloud covered it, and the glory of the LORD appeared.

⁵ The people spoke against God, and against Moses, "Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no bread, and there is no water; and our soul loathes this light bread."

¹⁰ Neither grumble, as some of them also grumbled, and perished by the destroyer. ¹¹ Now these things happened to them by way of example, and they were written for our admonition, on whom the ends of the ages have come.

² The whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron in the wilderness; ³ and the children of Israel said to them, "We wish that we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the meat pots, when we ate our fill of bread, for you have brought us out into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger."

³⁶ The men, whom Moses sent to spy out the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up an evil report against the land, ³⁷ even those men who brought up an evil report of the land, died by the plague before the LORD.

³¹ It happened, as he made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground split apart that was under them; ³² and the earth opened its mouth, and swallowed them up, and their households, and all the men who appertained to Korah, and all their goods. ³³ So they, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into Sheol: and the earth closed on them, and they perished from among the assembly. ³⁴ All Israel that were around them fled at their cry; for they said, "Lest the earth swallow us up." ³⁵ Fire came forth from the LORD, and devoured the two hundred fifty men who offered the incense.

⁴⁹ Now those who died by the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred, besides those who died about the matter of Korah.

¹⁰ because it did not shut up the doors of my mother's womb, nor did it hide trouble from my eyes. ¹¹ "Why did I not die from the womb? Why did I not give up the spirit when my mother bore me?

⁹ Those who are killed with the sword are better than those who are killed with hunger; those who waste away, pierced through, for lack of the fruits of the field.

²¹ and they said to them, "May God look at you, and judge, because you have made us a stench to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to kill us."

¹¹ They said to Moses, "Because there were no graves in Egypt, have you taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you treated us this way, to bring us forth out of Egypt? ¹² Isn't this the word that we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, 'Leave us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians?' For it were better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness."

³ and the children of Israel said to them, "We wish that we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the meat pots, when we ate our fill of bread, for you have brought us out into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger."

³ The people were thirsty for water there; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, "Why have you brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us, our children, and our livestock with thirst?"

⁵ We remember the fish, which we ate in Egypt for nothing; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlic;

¹³ is it a small thing that you have brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, but you must also make yourself a prince over us? ¹⁴ Moreover you haven't brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey, nor given us inheritance of fields and vineyards: will you put out the eyes of these men? We won't come up."

⁴¹ But on the next day all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, "You have killed the LORD's people."

²¹ They forgot God, their Savior, who had done great things in Egypt,

³⁵ "This Moses, whom they refused, saying, 'Who made you a ruler and a judge?'—God has sent him as both a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel who appeared to him in the bush.

³⁹ to whom our fathers would not be obedient, but rejected him, and turned back in their hearts to Egypt, ⁴⁰ saying to Aaron, 'Make us gods that will go before us, for as for this Moses, who led us out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.'

¹⁴ Moreover you haven't brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey, nor given us inheritance of fields and vineyards: will you put out the eyes of these men? We won't come up."

¹⁵ who led you through the great and terrible wilderness, with fiery serpents and scorpions, and thirsty ground where there was no water; who brought you forth water out of the rock of flint;

²¹ "Yes, forty years you sustained them in the wilderness. They lacked nothing. Their clothes did not grow old, and their feet did not swell.

² "Go, and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, 'Thus says the LORD, "I remember you, the devotion of your youth, the love of your weddings; how you went after me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.

⁶ Neither did they say, 'Where is the LORD who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, who led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought and of the shadow of death, through a land that none passed through, and where no man lived?'

³⁶ Like as I entered into judgment with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so will I enter into judgment with you," says the Lord GOD.

¹⁰ It happened, as Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and look, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud.

⁴ Moses cried to the LORD, saying, "What shall I do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me."

⁵ The LORD came down in a pillar of cloud, and stood at the door of the Tent, and called Aaron and Miriam; and they both came forward.

⁵ Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.

¹⁰ But all the congregation threatened to stone them with stones. Then the glory of the LORD appeared at the Tent of Meeting to all the children of Israel.

⁴ When Moses heard it, he fell on his face:

²² They fell on their faces, and said, "God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and will you be angry with all the congregation?"

⁴⁵ "Get away from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment." They fell on their faces.

⁶ Joshua tore his clothes, and fell to the earth on his face before the ark of the LORD until the evening, he and the elders of Israel; and they put dust on their heads.

¹⁶ David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of the LORD standing between earth and the sky, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell on their faces.

³ They have also surrounded me with words of hatred, and fought against me without a cause. ⁴ In return for my love, they are my adversaries; but I am in prayer.

³⁹ He went forward a little, fell on his face, and prayed, saying, "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass away from me; nevertheless, not what I desire, but what you desire."

¹⁴ Is anything too difficult for God? At the set time I will return to you, at the time of life, and Sarah will have a son."

² The LORD said to him, "What is that in your hand?" He said, "A rod."

¹⁷ You shall take this rod in your hand, with which you shall do the signs."

²⁰ Moses took his wife and his sons, and set them on a donkey, and he returned to the land of Egypt. Moses took God's rod in his hand.

²⁰ Moses and Aaron did so, as the LORD commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and struck the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood.

¹⁶ Lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea, and divide it: and the children of Israel shall go into the midst of the sea on dry ground.

⁵ The LORD said to Moses, "Walk on before the people, and take the elders of Israel with you, and take the rod in your hand with which you struck the Nile, and go. ⁶ Look, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb. You shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink." Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.

⁹ Moses said to Joshua, "Choose men for us, and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with God's rod in my hand."

¹¹ Moses lifted up his hand, and struck the rock with his rod twice: and water came forth abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their livestock.

²⁰ So the people shouted, and the priests blew the trumpets. It happened, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, that the people shouted with a great shout, and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.

¹⁵ and gave them bread from the sky for their hunger, and brought forth water for them out of the rock for their thirst, and commanded them that they should go in to possess the land which you had sworn to give them.

⁹ For he spoke, and it was done. He commanded, and it stood firm.

¹⁵ He split rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink abundantly as out of the depths. ¹⁶ He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.

⁴¹ He opened the rock, and waters gushed out. They ran as a river in the dry places.

⁸ who turned the rock into a pool of water, the flint into a spring of waters.

¹⁷ The poor and needy seek water, and there is none. Their tongue fails for thirst. I, the LORD, will answer them. I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them. ¹⁸ I will open rivers on the bare heights, and springs in the midst of the valleys. I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water.

²⁰ The animals of the field shall honor me, the jackals and the ostriches; because I give water in the wilderness and rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people, my chosen,

²¹ They did not thirst when he led them through the deserts; he caused the waters to flow out of the rock for them; he split the rock also, and the waters gushed out.

²¹ Jesus answered them, "Truly I tell you, if you have faith, and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you told this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' it would be done.

²² Jesus answered them, "Have faith in God. ²³ Truly I tell you, whoever may tell this mountain, 'Be taken up and cast into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. ²⁴ Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

¹³ If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?"

¹⁰ Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, 'Give me a drink,' you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water." ¹¹ The woman said to him, "Sir, you have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. From where do you get that living water? ¹² Are you greater than our father, Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank of it himself, as did his children, and his livestock?" ¹³ Jesus answered her, "Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again, ¹⁴ but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never thirst again; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to everlasting life."

²⁴ Until now, you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be made full.

¹⁴ All these with one accord continued steadfastly in prayer, along with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.

¹ Now when the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. ² Suddenly there came from the sky a sound like the rushing of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. ³ Tongues like fire appeared and were distributed to them, and one sat on each of them. ⁴ They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them the ability to speak.

¹ He showed me a river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb,

¹⁰ The LORD said to Moses, "Put back the rod of Aaron before the testimony, to be kept for a token against the rebels; that you may make an end of their murmurings against me, that they not die."

⁸ They said to him, "We both had dreams, but there is no one who can interpret it." Joseph said to them, "Do not interpretations belong to God? Please tell it to me."

¹⁶ And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, "Apart from God, the welfare of Pharaoh will receive no answer. "

²² Shall flocks and herds be slaughtered for them, to be sufficient for them? Shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to be sufficient for them?" ²³ The LORD said to Moses, "Has the LORD's hand grown short? Now you will see whether my word will happen to you or not."

²⁴ You have been rebellious against the LORD from the day that I knew you.

³² They angered him also at the waters of Meribah, so that Moses was troubled for their sakes; ³³ because they were rebellious against his spirit, he spoke rashly with his lips.

²⁸ but there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and he has made known to king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Your dream, and the visions of your head on your bed, are these: ²⁹ as for you, O king, your thoughts came into your mind on your bed, what should happen hereafter; and he who reveals secrets has made known to you what shall happen. ³⁰ But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than all the living, but in order that the interpretation may be made known to the king, and that you may know the thoughts of your heart.

²² But I tell you, that everyone who is angry with his brother without a cause will be liable to judgment; and whoever will say to his brother, 'Raqa,' will be in danger of the council; and whoever will say, 'You fool,' will be in danger of the fire of hell.

⁵⁴ When his disciples, James and John, saw this, they said, "Lord, do you want us to command fire to come down from the sky, and consume them?" ⁵⁵ And he turned and rebuked them, and said, "You do not realize what kind of Spirit you belong to.

¹² When Peter saw it, he responded to the people, "You men of Israel, why are you amazed at this? ⁹ He was listening to Paul speaking, who, fastening eyes on him, and seeing that he had faith to be made whole, ¹⁰ said with a loud voice, "Stand upright on your feet." He leaped up and walked. ¹¹ When the crowd saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voice, saying in the language of Lycaonia, "The gods have come down to us in human form." ¹² They called Barnabas "Jupiter," and Paul "Mercury," because he was the chief speaker. ¹³ The priest of Jupiter, whose temple was in front of their city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates, and would have made a sacrifice along with the crowds. ¹⁴ But when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of it, they tore their clothes, and sprang into the crowd, crying out, ¹⁵ "Men, why are you doing these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and bring you good news, that you should turn from these vain things to the living God, who made the sky and the earth and the sea, and all that is in them;

³ Then Paul said to him, "God will strike you, you whitewashed wall. Do you sit to judge me according to the Law, and command me to be struck contrary to the law?" ⁴ Those who stood by said, "Do you malign God's high priest?" ⁵ Paul said, "I did not know, brothers, that he was high priest. For it is written, 'You must not speak evil of a ruler of your people.'"

¹⁷ I have therefore my boasting in Christ Jesus in things pertaining to God. ¹⁸ For I will not dare to speak of any things except those which Christ worked through me, for the obedience of the non-Jews, by word and deed, ¹⁹ in the power of signs and wonders, in the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and around as far as to Illyricum, I have fully preached the Good News of Christ;

⁷ So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who makes it grow.

²⁶ "Be angry, but do not sin." Do not let the sun go down on your anger,

² For in many things we all stumble. If anyone does not stumble in word, this one is a perfect person, able to bridle the whole body also.

⁶ Look, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb. You shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink." Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.

¹ And the two sons of Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, each took his censer and put fire in it, and laid incense on it, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he had not commanded them.

⁸ "Take the rod, and assemble the congregation, you, and Aaron your brother, and speak to the rock before their eyes, that it give forth its water; and you shall bring forth to them water out of the rock; so you shall give the congregation and their livestock drink."

¹³ And Samuel came to Saul; and Saul said to him, "You are blessed by the LORD. I have performed the commandment of the LORD." ¹⁴ Samuel said, "Then what does this bleating of the sheep in my ears, and the lowing of the cattle which I hear mean?"

¹⁹ Why then did you not obey the voice of the LORD, but took the spoils, and did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD?"

²⁴ Saul said to Samuel, "I have sinned; for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and your words, because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.

²¹ and he cried to the man of God who came from Judah, saying, "Thus says the LORD, 'Because you have been disobedient to the mouth of the LORD, and have not kept the commandment which the LORD your God commanded you, ²² but came back, and have eaten bread and drunk water in the place of which he said to you, "Eat no bread, and drink no water"; your body shall not come to the tomb of your fathers.'" ²³ It happened, after he had eaten bread, and after he had drunk, that he saddled the donkey for the prophet whom he had brought back. ²⁴ When he had gone, a lion met him by the way, and killed him. His body was cast in the way, and the donkey stood by it. The lion also stood by the body.

⁹ When they came to the threshing floor of Nodan, Uzza put forth his hand to hold the ark; for the oxen stumbled. ¹⁰ The anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzza, and he struck him, because he put forth his hand to the ark; and there he died before God.

² Then David said, "No one ought to carry the ark of God but the Levites. For the LORD has chosen them to carry the ark of God, and to minister to him forever."

¹³ For because you were not prepared the first time, the LORD our God made an outbreak against us, because we did not seek him according to the ordinance."

¹⁶ He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.

⁵ I fed you in the wilderness, in the land of great drought.

²⁰ teaching them to obey all things that I commanded you. And look, I am with you every day, even to the end of the age."

⁴ and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of a spiritual rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ.

²⁰ for human anger does not produce the righteousness of God.

³ Then Moses said to Aaron, "This is what the LORD spoke of, saying, 'I will show myself holy to those who come near me, and before all the people I will be glorified.'" Aaron held his peace.

¹⁵ If you treat me this way, please kill me right now, if I have found favor in your sight; and do not let me see my wretchedness."

²¹ Moses said, "The people, among whom I am, are six hundred thousand men on foot; and you have said, 'I will give them flesh, that they may eat a whole month.' ²² Shall flocks and herds be slaughtered for them, to be sufficient for them? Shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to be sufficient for them?"

²⁴ "Aaron shall be gathered to his people; for he shall not enter into the land which I have given to the children of Israel, because you rebelled against my word at the waters of Meribah.

³⁷ Also the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, saying, "You also shall not go in there:

²³ I begged the LORD at that time, saying, ²⁴ "Lord GOD, you have begun to show your servant your greatness, and your strong hand: for what god is there in heaven or in earth, that can do according to your works, and according to your mighty acts? ²⁵ Please let me go over and see the good land that is beyond the Jordan, that good hill country, and Lebanon." ²⁶ But the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, and did not listen to me; and the LORD said to me, "Enough from you; speak no more to me of this matter. ²⁷ Go up to the top of Pisgah, and lift up your eyes westward, and northward, and southward, and eastward, and see with your eyes: for you shall not go over this Jordan.

⁴⁹ "Go up into this mountain of Abarim, to Mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, that is over against Jericho; and see the land of Canaan, which I give to the children of Israel for a possession; ⁵⁰ and die on the mountain where you go up, and be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother died on Mount Hor, and was gathered to his people: ⁵¹ because you trespassed against me in the midst of the children of Israel at the waters of Meribah of Kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin; because you did not sanctify me in the midst of the children of Israel.

⁴ The LORD said to him, "This is the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, 'I will give it to your descendants.' I have caused you to see it with your eyes, but you shall not go over there."

² Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, you, and all this people, to the land which I give to them, even to the children of Israel.

²⁰ They rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, "Listen to me, Judah, and you inhabitants of Jerusalem. Believe in the LORD your God, so you will be established. Believe his prophets, and you will prosper."

⁹ and the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah's son. If you will not believe, surely you shall not be established.'"

¹³ The LORD of hosts is who you must regard as holy. He is the one you must fear. He is the one you must dread.

⁴¹ As a pleasant aroma will I accept you, when I bring you out from the peoples, and gather you out of the countries in which you have been scattered; and I will be sanctified in you in the sight of the nations.

²³ I will sanctify my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, which you have profaned in their midst; and the nations shall know that I am the LORD," says the Lord GOD, "when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes.

¹⁰ "'Thus says the Lord GOD: "It shall happen in that day, that things shall come into your mind, and you shall devise an evil device:

¹⁷ Jesus answered, "Faithless and perverse generation. How long will I be with you? How long will I bear with you? Bring him here to me."

²⁰ So he said to them, "Because of your little faith. For truly I tell you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you will tell this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you."

²⁰ And look, you will be silent and not able to speak, until the day that these things will happen, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their proper time."

⁴⁵ Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of the things which have been spoken to her from the Lord."

¹⁷ For the Law was given through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

²⁰ Yet, looking to the promise of God, he did not waver through unbelief, but grew strong through faith, giving glory to God,

¹⁵ But sanctify in your hearts Christ as Lord; and always be ready to give an answer to everyone who asks you a reason concerning the hope that is in you, yet with humility and fear:

⁷ He called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because the children of Israel quarreled, and because they tested the LORD, saying, "Is the LORD among us, or not?"

⁸ Of Levi he said, "Give to Levi your Thummim and your Urim to your faithful one, whom you proved at Massah, with whom you strove at the waters of Meribah;

⁸ Do not harden your heart, as at Meribah, as in the day of Massah in the wilderness,

³² They angered him also at the waters of Meribah, so that Moses was troubled for their sakes; ³³ because they were rebellious against his spirit, he spoke rashly with his lips. ³⁴ They did not destroy the peoples, as the LORD commanded them, ³⁵ but mixed themselves with the nations, and learned their works. ³⁶ They served their idols, which became a snare to them. ³⁷ Yes, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons. ³⁸ They shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan. The land was polluted with blood. ³⁹ Thus were they defiled with their works, and prostituted themselves in their deeds. ⁴⁰ Therefore the LORD burned with anger against his people. He abhorred his inheritance. ⁴¹ He gave them into the hand of the nations. Those who hated them ruled over them. ⁴² Their enemies also oppressed them. They were brought into subjection under their hand. ⁴³ Many times he delivered them, but they were rebellious in their counsel, and were brought low in their iniquity. ⁴⁴ Nevertheless he regarded their distress, when he heard their cry. ⁴⁵ He remembered for them his covenant, and repented according to the multitude of his loving kindnesses. ⁴⁶ He made them also to be pitied by all those who carried them captive. ⁴⁷ Save us, LORD, our God, gather us from among the nations, to give thanks to your holy name, to triumph in your praise. ⁴⁸ Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. And let all the people say, "Amen." Praise the LORD.

¹⁶ but the LORD of hosts is exalted in justice, and God the Holy One is sanctified in righteousness.

¹⁶ and you shall come up against my people Israel, as a cloud to cover the land: it shall happen in the latter days, that I will bring you against my land, that the nations may know me, when I shall be sanctified in you, Gog, before their eyes."

³ Jacob sent messengers ahead of him to Esau, his brother, to the land of Seir, the region of Edom. ⁴ He commanded them, saying, "This is what you shall tell my lord, Esau: 'This is what your servant, Jacob, says. I have lived as a foreigner with Laban, and stayed until now.

³¹ These are the kings who reigned in the land of Edom, before any king reigned over the children of Israel. ³² Bela the son of Beor reigned in Edom. The name of his city was Dinhabah. ³³ When Bela died, and Jobab, the son of Zerah of Bozrah reigned in his place. ³⁴ And Jobab died, and Husham of the land of the Temanites reigned in his place. ³⁵ And Husham died, and Hadad the son of Bedad who struck Midian in the field of Moab reigned in his place. The name of his city was Avith. ³⁶ And Hadad died, and Samlah of Masrekah reigned in his place. ³⁷ And Samlah died, and Shaul of Rehoboth-on-the-River reigned in his place. ³⁸ And Shaul died, and Baal Hanan the son of Achbor reigned in his place. ³⁹ And Baal Hanan the son of Achbor died, and Hadad reigned in his place. The name of his city was Pau. His wifeʼs name was Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, the daughter of Me-Zahab.

⁸ Moses told his father-in-law all that the LORD had done to Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel's sake, all the hardships that had come on them on the way, and how the LORD delivered them.

⁴ Command the people, saying, 'You are to pass through the border of your brothers the descendants of Esau, who dwell in Seir; and they will be afraid of you: take good heed to yourselves therefore; ⁵ do not contend with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as for the sole of the foot to tread on; because I have given Mount Seir to Esau for a possession. ⁶ You shall purchase food of them for money, that you may eat; and you shall also buy water of them for money, that you may drink.'" ⁷ For the LORD your God has blessed you in all the work of your hand; he has known your walking through this great wilderness: these forty years the LORD your God has been with you; you have lacked nothing. ⁸ So we passed by from our brothers the descendants of Esau, who dwell in Seir, from the way of the Arabah from Eilat and from Ezion Geber. We turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab. ⁹ The LORD said to me, "Do not bother Moab, neither contend with them in battle; for I will not give you of his land for a possession; because I have given Ar to the descendants of Lot for a possession." ¹⁰ (The Emim lived there before, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakim: ¹¹ these also are accounted Rephaim, as the Anakim; but the Moabites call them Emim. ¹² The Horites also lived in Seir before, but the descendants of Esau succeeded them; and they destroyed them from before them, and lived in their place; as Israel did to the land of his possession, which the LORD gave to them.) ¹³ "Now rise up, and cross over the Wadi Zered." So we went over the Wadi Zered. ¹⁴ The days in which we came from Kadesh Barnea, until we had come over the Wadi Zered, were thirty-eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were consumed from the midst of the camp, as the LORD swore to them. ¹⁵ Moreover the hand of God was against them, to destroy them from the midst of the camp, until they were consumed. ¹⁶ So it happened, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people, ¹⁷ that the LORD spoke to me, saying, ¹⁸ "You are this day to pass over Ar, the border of Moab: ¹⁹ and when you come near over against the people of Ammon, do not bother them, nor contend with them; for I will not give you of the land of the people of Ammon for a possession; because I have given it to the people of Lot for a possession." ²⁰ (That also is accounted a land of Rephaim: Rephaim lived in it before; but the Ammonites call them Zamzummim, ²¹ a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakim; but the LORD destroyed them before them; and they succeeded them, and lived in their place; ²² as he did for the descendants of Esau, who dwell in Seir, when he destroyed the Horites from before them; and they succeeded them, and lived in their place even to this day: ²³ and the Avvim, who lived in villages as far as Gaza, the Caphtorim, who came forth out of Caphtor, destroyed them, and lived in their place.) ²⁴ "Rise up, take your journey, and pass over the Valley of the Arnon: look, I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land; begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle. ²⁵ This day will I begin to put the dread of you and the fear of you on the peoples who are under the whole sky, who shall hear the report of you, and shall tremble, and be in anguish because of you."

⁷ You shall not abhor an Edomite; for he is your brother: you shall not abhor an Egyptian, because you lived as a foreigner in his land.

⁹ They said to him, "Your servants have come from a very far country because of the name of the LORD your God; for we have heard of his fame, all that he did in Egypt,

¹⁶ but when they came up from Egypt, and Israel went through the wilderness to the Lake of Rushes, and came to Kadesh; ¹⁷ then Israel sent messengers to the king of Edom, saying, 'Please let me pass through your land.' But the king of Edom did not listen. In the same way, he sent to the king of Moab; but he would not. So Israel stayed in Kadesh.

¹⁰ For the violence done to your brother Jacob, shame will cover you, and you will be cut off forever. ¹¹ In the day that you stood on the other side, in the day that strangers carried away his substance, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots for Jerusalem, even you were like one of them. ¹² But do not look down on your brother in the day of his disaster, and do not rejoice over the people of Judah in the day of their destruction. Do not speak proudly in the day of distress.

² "I have loved you," says the LORD. Yet you say, "How have you loved us?" "Wasn't Esau Jacob's brother?" says the LORD, "Yet I loved Jacob;

¹³ And he said to Abram, "Know for certain that your descendants will live as foreigners in a land that is not theirs; and they will be enslaved there. And they will oppress them four hundred years.

⁶ So they took their livestock and their possessions which they had aquired in the land of Canaan, and arrived in Egypt, Jacob and all his descendants with him,

¹¹ Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with their burdens. They built storage cities for Pharaoh: Pithom and Raamses. ¹² But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and the more they spread out. And the Egyptians were in dread of the children of Israel. ¹³ And the Egyptians ruthlessly made the children of Israel labor, ¹⁴ and they made their lives bitter with hard labor, in mortar and in brick, and in all manner of labor in the field, all their labors which they ruthlessly made them do.

¹⁶ and he said, "When you perform the duty of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them on the birth stool; if it is a son, then you shall kill him; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live."

²² Pharaoh commanded all his people, saying, "You are to cast every son who is born to the Hebrews into the river, but every daughter you are to keep alive."

¹⁴ The officers of the children of Israel, whom Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, "Why haven't you fulfilled your quota both yesterday and today, in making brick as before?"

⁴⁰ Now the time of the dwelling of the children of Israel who dwelt in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years.

¹³ is it a small thing that you have brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, but you must also make yourself a prince over us?

⁶ The Egyptians mistreated us, and afflicted us, and laid on us hard bondage:

¹⁵ Jacob went down into Egypt, and he died, himself and our fathers,

¹⁹ The same took advantage of our race, and mistreated our fathers, and forced them to throw out their babies, so that they would not stay alive.

²³ It happened in the course of those many days, that the king of Egypt died, and the children of Israel sighed because of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up to God because of the bondage. ²⁴ God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.

² The angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. He looked, and look, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. ³ Moses said, "I will turn aside now, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt." ⁴ When the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the midst of the bush, and said, "Moses. Moses." He said, "Here I am." ⁵ He said, "Do not come close. Take your sandals off of your feet, for the place you are standing on is holy ground." ⁶ Moreover he said, "I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look at God. ⁷ The LORD said, "I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows. ⁸ I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk and honey; to the place of the Canaanites, and the Hethites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Girgashites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites. ⁹ Now, look, the cry of the children of Israel has come to me. Moreover I have seen the oppression with which the Egyptians oppress them.

⁵ Moreover I have heard the groaning of the children of Israel, whom the Egyptians keep in bondage, and I have remembered my covenant.

¹⁰ When Pharaoh drew near, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and look, the Egyptians were marching after them; and they were very afraid. The children of Israel cried out to the LORD.

¹⁹ The angel of God, who went before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud moved from before them, and stood behind them.

²⁰ "Look, I send an angel before you, to keep you by the way, and to bring you into the place which I have prepared.

² I will send an angel before you; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hethite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite:

¹ When the Canaanite king of Arad who lived in the Negev heard that Israel came by the way of Atharim, then he fought against Israel, and took some of them captive.

²² "Let me pass through your land: we will not turn aside into field, or into vineyard; we will not drink of the water of the wells: we will go by the king's highway, until we have passed your border." ²³ Sihon would not allow Israel to pass through his border: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and went out against Israel into the wilderness, and came to Jahaz; and he fought against Israel. ²⁴ Israel struck him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, even to the people of Ammon; for the border of the people of Ammon was strong.

¹ Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way to the Lake of Rushes, as the LORD spoke to me; and we encircled Mount Seir many days. ² The LORD spoke to me, saying, ³ "You have encircled this mountain long enough. Turn northward. ⁴ Command the people, saying, 'You are to pass through the border of your brothers the descendants of Esau, who dwell in Seir; and they will be afraid of you: take good heed to yourselves therefore;

²⁷ "Let me pass through your land: I will go along by the highway, I will turn neither to the right hand nor to the left.

²⁹ as the people of Esau who dwell in Seir, and the Moabites who dwell in Ar, did to me; until I shall pass over the Jordan into the land which the LORD our God gives us."

³⁸ A mixed multitude went up also with them, with flocks, herds, and even very much livestock.

⁶ You shall purchase food of them for money, that you may eat; and you shall also buy water of them for money, that you may drink.'"

²⁸ You shall sell me food for money, that I may eat; and give me water for money, that I may drink: only let me pass through on my feet,

⁴¹ Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father blessed him. Esau said in his heart, "The days of mourning for my father are at hand. Then I will kill my brother Jacob."

⁶ The messengers returned to Jacob, saying, "We came to your brother Esau. Not only that, but he comes to meet you, and four hundred men with him."

¹⁸ Edom said to him, "You shall not pass through me, lest I come out with the sword against you."

¹⁷ then Israel sent messengers to the king of Edom, saying, 'Please let me pass through your land.' But the king of Edom did not listen. In the same way, he sent to the king of Moab; but he would not. So Israel stayed in Kadesh.

²⁰ But Sihon did not trust Israel to pass through his territory; but Sihon gathered all his people together, and camped in Jahaz, and fought against Israel.

⁷ I am for peace, but when I speak, they are for war.

⁵ "'"Because you have had a perpetual enmity, and have given over the children of Israel to the power of the sword in the time of their calamity, in the time of the iniquity of the end; ⁶ therefore, as I live," says the Lord GOD, "I will prepare you for blood, and blood shall pursue you: since you have not hated blood, therefore blood shall pursue you. ⁷ Thus will I make Mount Seir an astonishment and a desolation; and I will cut off from it him who passes through and him who returns. ⁸ I will fill its mountains with its slain: in your hills and in your valleys and in all your watercourses shall they fall who are slain with the sword. ⁹ I will make you a perpetual desolation, and your cities shall not be inhabited; and you shall know that I am the LORD. ¹⁰ "'"Because you have said, 'These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will possess it'; whereas the LORD was there: ¹¹ therefore, as I live," says the Lord GOD, "I will do according to your anger, and according to your envy which you have shown out of your hatred against them; and I will make myself known among them, when I shall judge you.

¹¹ Thus says the LORD: "For three transgressions of Edom, yes, for four, I will not turn away its punishment; because he pursued his brother with the sword, and cast off all pity, and his anger raged continually, and he kept his wrath forever;

Do not look down on their affliction in the day of their calamity, neither seize their wealth on the day of their calamity. ¹⁴ Do not stand in the crossroads to cut off those of his who escape. Do not deliver up those of his who remain in the day of distress. ¹⁵ For the day of the LORD is near all the nations. As you have done, it will be done to you. Your deeds will return upon your own head.

⁴ Command the people, saying, 'You are to pass through the border of your brothers the descendants of Esau, who dwell in Seir; and they will be afraid of you: take good heed to yourselves therefore; ⁵ do not contend with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as for the sole of the foot to tread on; because I have given Mount Seir to Esau for a possession. ⁶ You shall purchase food of them for money, that you may eat; and you shall also buy water of them for money, that you may drink.'" ⁷ For the LORD your God has blessed you in all the work of your hand; he has known your walking through this great wilderness: these forty years the LORD your God has been with you; you have lacked nothing. ⁸ So we passed by from our brothers the descendants of Esau, who dwell in Seir, from the way of the Arabah from Eilat and from Ezion Geber. ¹⁸ Then they went through the wilderness, and went around the land of Edom, and the land of Moab, and came by the east side of the land of Moab, and they camped on the other side of the Arnon; but they did not come within the territory of Moab, for the Arnon was the boundary of Moab.

²⁴ Won't you possess that which Chemosh your god gives you to possess? So whoever the LORD our God has driven out from before us, we will possess.

²⁶ They went and came to Moses, and to Aaron, and to all the congregation of the children of Israel, to the wilderness of Paran, to Kadesh; and brought back word to them, and to all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land.

¹ The children of Israel, even the whole congregation, came into the wilderness of Zin in the first month: and the people stayed in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there.

¹⁴ Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom, saying: "Thus says your brother Israel: You know all the travail that has happened to us:

⁴ They traveled from Mount Hor by the way to the Lake of Rushes, to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way.

³⁶ They traveled from Ezion Geber, and camped in the wilderness of Zin (that is, Kadesh). ³⁷ They traveled from Kadesh, and camped in Mount Hor, in the edge of the land of Edom. ³⁸ Aaron the priest went up into Mount Hor at the commandment of the LORD, and died there, in the fortieth year after the children of Israel had come out of the land of Egypt, in the fifth month, on the first day of the month.

⁷ "'This shall be your north border: from the Great Sea you shall mark out for you Mount Hor;

¹⁹ The south side southward shall be from Tamar as far as the waters of Meriboth Kadesh, to the Wadi, to the Great Sea. This is the south side southward.

²⁸ By the border of Gad, at the south side southward, the border shall be even from Tamar to the waters of Meribath Kadesh, to the Wadi, to the Great Sea.

³⁷ They traveled from Kadesh, and camped in Mount Hor, in the edge of the land of Edom.

¹⁵ But you will go to your fathers in peace. You will be buried in a good old age.

⁸ Abraham breathed his last, and died in a good old age, an old man and satisfied, and was gathered to his people.

¹⁷ These are the years of the life of Ishmael: one hundred thirty-seven years. He breathed his last and died, and was gathered to his people.

²⁹ And Isaac took his last breath and died, and was gathered to his people, old and full of days. And his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.

²⁹ Then he instructed them, and said to them, "I am to be gathered to my people. Bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Hethite,

³³ When Jacob finished instructing his sons, he drew his legs up into the bed and breathed his last, and was gathered to his people.

²⁷ At the commandment of Aaron and his sons shall be all the service of the sons of the Gershonites, in all their burden, and in all their service; and you shall appoint their duty to them in all their responsibilities.

¹⁰ Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock, and he said to them, "Hear now, you rebels; shall we bring you water out of this rock for you?" ¹¹ Moses lifted up his hand, and struck the rock with his rod twice: and water came forth abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their livestock. ¹² The LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you did not believe in me, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them."

¹³ When you have seen it, you also shall be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother was gathered;

² "Avenge the children of Israel for the Midianites. Afterward you shall be gathered to your people."

⁵⁰ and die on the mountain where you go up, and be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother died on Mount Hor, and was gathered to his people:

¹⁰ And all that generation were also gathered to their fathers. And there arose another generation after them who did not know the LORD, nor the works which he had done for Israel.

²⁸ "Look, I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace, neither shall your eyes see all the disaster that I will bring on this place, and on its inhabitants."'" They brought back word to the king.

³⁸ Aaron the priest went up into Mount Hor at the commandment of the LORD, and died there, in the fortieth year after the children of Israel had come out of the land of Egypt, in the fifth month, on the first day of the month. ³⁹ Aaron was one hundred twenty-three years old when he died in Mount Hor.

²⁹ "The holy garments of Aaron shall be for his sons after him, to be anointed in them, and to be consecrated in them. ³⁰ Seven days shall the son who is priest in his place put them on, when he comes into the Tent of Meeting to minister in the holy place.

²¹ and I will clothe him with your robe, and strengthen him with your belt. I will commit your government into his hand; and he will be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah. ²² I will lay the key of the house of David on his shoulder. He will open, and no one will shut. He will shut, and no one will open.

¹¹ Now if there was perfection through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people have received the law), what further need was there for another priest to arise after the order of Melchizedek, and not be called after the order of Aaron?

²³ Many, indeed, have been made priests, because they are hindered from continuing by death. ²⁴ But he, because he lives forever, has his priesthood unchangeable.

²⁶ and strip Aaron of his garments, and put them on Eleazar his son: and Aaron shall be taken, and shall die there."

¹⁶ "Let the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the congregation, ¹⁷ who may go out before them, and who may come in before them, and who may lead them out, and who may bring them in; that the congregation of the LORD not be as sheep which have no shepherd." ¹⁸ The LORD said to Moses, "Take Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay your hand on him; ¹⁹ and set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation; and commission him in their sight. ²⁰ You shall put of your honor on him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel may obey. ²¹ He shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before the LORD: at his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the children of Israel with him, even all the congregation." ²² Moses did as the LORD commanded him; and he took Joshua, and set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation: ²³ and he laid his hands on him, and commissioned him, as the LORD spoke by Moses.

³⁸ Aaron the priest went up into Mount Hor at the commandment of the LORD, and died there, in the fortieth year after the children of Israel had come out of the land of Egypt, in the fifth month, on the first day of the month. ³⁹ Aaron was one hundred twenty-three years old when he died in Mount Hor. ⁴⁰ The Canaanite, the king of Arad, who lived in the Negev in the land of Canaan, heard of the coming of the children of Israel. ⁴¹ They traveled from Mount Hor, and camped in Zalmonah. ⁴² They traveled from Zalmonah, and camped in Punon. ⁴³ They traveled from Punon, and camped in Oboth. ⁴⁴ They traveled from Oboth, and camped in Iye Abarim, in the border of Moab. ⁴⁵ They traveled from Iyim, and camped in Dibon Gad. ⁴⁶ They traveled from Dibon Gad, and camped in Almon Diblathaim. ⁴⁷ They traveled from Almon Diblathaim, and camped in the mountains of Abarim, before Nebo. ⁴⁸ They traveled from the mountains of Abarim, and camped in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho. ⁴⁹ They camped by the Jordan, from Beth Jeshimoth even to Abel Shittim in the plains of Moab.

⁶ (The children of Israel traveled from Beeroth Bene Jaakan to Moserah. There Aaron died, and there he was buried; and Eleazar his son ministered in the priest's office in his place.

⁷ Moses called to Joshua, and said to him in the sight of all Israel, "Be strong and courageous: for you shall go with this people into the land which the LORD has sworn to their fathers to give them; and you shall cause them to inherit it. ⁸ The LORD, he it is who does go before you; he will be with you, he will not fail you, neither forsake you: do not be afraid, neither be dismayed."

⁴⁹ "Go up into this mountain of Abarim, to Mount Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, that is over against Jericho; and see the land of Canaan, which I give to the children of Israel for a possession; ⁵⁰ and die on the mountain where you go up, and be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother died on Mount Hor, and was gathered to his people:

⁵ So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD.

⁹ Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom; for Moses had laid his hands on him: and the children of Israel listened to him, and did as the LORD commanded Moses.

¹¹ Now, my son, may the LORD be with you and prosper you, and build the house of the LORD your God, as he has spoken concerning you. ¹² May the LORD give you discretion and understanding, and put you in charge of Israel; that so you may keep the law of the LORD your God.

¹⁷ And David also commanded all the leaders of Israel to help Solomon his son, saying,

⁵ Of all my sons (for the LORD has given me many sons), he has chosen Solomon my son to sit on the throne of the LORD's kingdom over Israel. ⁶ He said to me, 'Solomon, your son, shall build my house and my courts; for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father. ⁷ I will establish his kingdom forever, if he continues to do my commandments and my ordinances, as at this day.' ⁸ Now therefore, in the sight of all Israel, the assembly of the LORD, and in the audience of our God, observe and seek out all the commandments of the LORD your God; that you may possess this good land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children after you forever. ⁹ You, Solomon my son, know the God of your father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind; for the LORD searches all hearts, and understands all the imaginations of the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will cast you off forever.

²⁵ "And now, look, I know that you all, among whom I went about proclaiming the Kingdom, will see my face no more. ²⁶ Therefore I testify to you today that I am innocent of everyone's blood, ²⁷ for I did not hold back from declaring to you the whole plan of God. ²⁸ Watch out for yourselves and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which he purchased with his own blood. ²⁹ For I know that after my departure, vicious wolves will enter in among you, not sparing the flock.

²⁴ But he, because he lives forever, has his priesthood unchangeable. ²⁵ Therefore he is also able to save completely those who draw near to God through him, seeing that he lives forever to make intercession for them.

¹⁵ Yes, I will make every effort that you may always be able to remember these things even after my departure.

¹⁰ And God called the dry land Earth, and the gatherings of the waters he called Seas. And God saw that it was good.

⁸ The children of Israel wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days: so the days of weeping in the mourning for Moses were ended.

²⁴ So his servants took him out of the chariot, and put him in the second chariot that he had, and brought him to Jerusalem; and he died, and was buried in the tombs of his fathers. All Judah and Jerusalem mourned for Josiah. ²⁵ Jeremiah lamented for Josiah: and all the singing men and singing women spoke of Josiah in their lamentations to this day; and they made them an ordinance in Israel: and look, they are written in the lamentations.

² Devout men buried Stephen, and lamented greatly over him.
