32 Leah conceived, and bore a son, and she named him Reuben. For she said, "Because God has looked at my affliction, and given me a son. For now my husband will love me." 33 She conceived again, and bore a son, and said, "Because God has heard that I am unloved, he has therefore given me this son also." So she named him Simeon. 34 She conceived again, and bore a son. She said, "Now this time my husband will become attached to me, since I have given him three sons." Therefore he was named Levi. 35 She conceived again, and bore a son. She said, "This time will I praise the LORD." Therefore she named him Judah. Then she stopped bearing.

Genesis 30:5-20

5 Bilhah conceived, and bore Jacob a son. 6 Rachel said, "God has judged me, and has also heard my voice, and has given me a son." Therefore she called his name Dan. 7 Bilhah, Rachel's handmaid, conceived again, and bore Jacob a second son. 8 Rachel said, "I have wrestled mightily with my sister, and have prevailed." So she named him Naphtali. 9 When Leah saw that she had stopped bearing, she took Zilpah, her servant, and gave her to Jacob as a wife. 10 Zilpah, Leah's handmaid, bore Jacob a son. 11 Leah said, "How fortunate." So she named him Gad. 12 Zilpah, Leah's servant, bore Jacob a second son. 13 Leah said, "Happy am I, for the daughters will call me happy." So she named him Asher. 14 Reuben went out during the wheat harvest and found mandrakes in the field, and brought them to his mother, Leah. Then Rachel said to Leah, "Please give me some of your sonʼs mandrakes." 15 She said to her, "Is it a small matter that you have taken away my husband? Would you take away my sonʼs mandrakes, also?" Rachel said, "Therefore he may sleep with you tonight for your sonʼs mandrakes." 16 Jacob came from the field in the evening, and Leah went out to meet him, and said, "You must sleep with me; for I have surely hired you with my sonʼs mandrakes." So he slept with her that night. 17 God listened to Leah, and she conceived, and bore Jacob a fifth son. 18 Leah said, "God has given me my wages, because I gave my servant to my husband." So she named him Issachar. 19 Leah conceived again, and bore a sixth son to Jacob. 20 Leah said, "God has given me with a good gift. Now my husband will live with me, because I have borne him six sons." So she named him Zebulun.

17 When she was in the difficult labor, the midwife said to her, "Do not be afraid, for now you have another son." 18 It happened, as her life was departing (for she died), that she named him Ben-Oni, but his father named him Benjamin. 19 So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem). 20 Jacob set up a standing-stone on her grave. It is the standing-stone of Rachelʼs grave to this day. 21 And Israel traveled and pitched his tent beyond Migdal Eder. 22 It happened, while Israel lived in that land, that Reuben went and slept with Bilhah, his fatherʼs secondary wife, and Israel heard about it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve. 23 The sons of Leah: Reuben, Jacobʼs firstborn, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun. 24 The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin. 25 And the sons of Bilhah, Rachelʼs servant: Dan and Naphtali. 26 And the sons of Zilpah, Leahʼs servant: Gad and Asher. These are the sons of Jacob who were born to him in Paddan Aram.

Genesis 49:1-33

1 Then Jacob summoned his sons, and said: "Gather yourselves together so that I may tell you what will happen to you in the days to come. 2 Assemble yourselves and hear, you sons of Jacob. Listen to Israel, your father. 3 Reuben, you are my firstborn, my strength, and the the firstfruits of my virility, preeminent in dignity and preeminent in power. 4 Uncontrolled as the waters, you will not have excel, because you went up to your father's bed, you went up and defiled my couch. 5 Simeon and Levi are brothers. Their swords are weapons of violence. 6 May I never enter their council. May my honor never be joined with their assembly. For in their anger they killed men, and for pleasure they hamstrung oxen. 7 Cursed be their anger, for it has been fierce, and their fury, for it was cruel. I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel. 8 Judah, your brothers will praise you. Your hand will be on the neck of your enemies. Your fatherʼs sons will bow down before you. 9 Judah is a lionʼs cub. From the prey, my son, you rise up. Like a lion he crouches and lies down, as a lioness. Who will rouse him up? 10 The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the rulerʼs staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs. And it is he whom the peoples will obey. 11 Binding his foal to the vine, and his donkeyʼs colt to the choice vine. He will wash his garments in wine, and his robes in the blood of grapes. 12 His eyes will be darker than wine, and his teeth whiter than milk. 13 Zebulun will dwell at the seashore, and he will be a harbor for ships, and his border will be at Sidon. 14 Issachar is a strong donkey lying down between the saddlebags. 15 When he sees a good resting place, that the land is pleasant, he will bend his back to the burden, and become a slave doing forced labor. 16 Dan will judge his people as one of the tribes of Israel. 17 Dan will be a serpent on the road, a viper by the path, that bites the horseʼs heels so that his rider falls backward. 18 I wait for your salvation, God. 19 Gad will be attacked by raiders, but he will raid at their heels. 20 Asherʼs food will be rich, and he will provide royal delicacies. 21 Naphtali is a doe set free that bears beautiful fawns. 22 Joseph is a fruitful son, a fruitful son by a spring. His branches run over a wall. 23 The archers will attack him with bitterness, and shoot at him, and harass him. 24 Yet his bow will remain steady, and his arms will be made agile by the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob, by the name of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel, 25 by the God of your father, who will help you, and El Shaddai, who will bless you with blessings of the sky above, blessings of the deep that lies below, and blessings of the breasts and of the womb. 26 The blessings of your father are greater than the blessings of the ancient mountains, and the bounty of the everlasting hills. They will be on the head of Joseph, and on the brow of the prince among his brothers. 27 Benjamin is a ravenous wolf. In the morning he will devour the prey, and at evening he will divide the plunder." 28 All these are the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is what their father said to them when he blessed them. He blessed each one with his own individual blessing. 29 Then he instructed them, and said to them, "I am to be gathered to my people. Bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Hethite, 30 in the cave that is in the field of Machpelah, which is near Mamre in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought along with the field from Ephron the Hethite as a burial place. 31 There they buried Abraham and his wife Sarah. There they buried Isaac and his wife Rebekah, and there I buried Leah. 32 The field and the cave that is in it were purchased from the sons of Heth." 33 When Jacob finished instructing his sons, he drew his legs up into the bed and breathed his last, and was gathered to his people.

Deuteronomy 33:1-29

1 This is the blessing, with which Moses the man of God blessed the children of Israel before his death. 2 He said, "The LORD came from Sinai, and dawned from Seir upon us. He shone forth from Mount Paran. He came from the ten thousands of holy ones. At his right hand was a fiery law for them. 3 Yes, he loves the people. All his holy ones are in your hand. They sat down at your feet; each receives your words. 4 Moses commanded us a law, an inheritance for the assembly of Jacob. 5 He was king in Jeshurun, when the heads of the people were gathered, all the tribes of Israel together. 6 "Let Reuben live, and not die; Nor let his men be few." 7 This is for Judah. He said, "Hear, LORD, the voice of Judah. Bring him in to his people. With his hands he contended for himself. You shall be a help against his adversaries." 8 Of Levi he said, "Give to Levi your Thummim and your Urim to your faithful one, whom you proved at Massah, with whom you strove at the waters of Meribah; 9 who said of his father, and of his mother, 'I have not seen him;' Neither did he acknowledge his brothers, Nor did he know his own children: For they have observed your word, and keep your covenant. 10 They shall teach Jacob your ordinances, and Israel your law. They shall put incense before you, and whole burnt offering on your altar. 11 LORD, bless his substance. Accept the work of his hands. Strike the loins of those who rise against him, of those who hate him, that they not rise again." 12 Of Benjamin he said, "The beloved of the LORD shall dwell in safety by him. He covers him all the day long. He dwells between his shoulders." 13 Of Joseph he said, "His land is blessed by the LORD, for the precious things of the heavens, for the dew, for the deep that couches beneath, 14 with the choices fruits of the sun, and the bounteous yield of the months, 15 with the finest produce of the ancient mountains, and the abundance of the everlasting hills, 16 with the choice things of the earth and its fullness, the good will of him who lived in the bush. Let this come on the head of Joseph, on the crown of the head of him who was separate from his brothers. 17 A firstborn bull, majesty is his. His horns are the horns of the wild ox. With them he shall push all of the peoples, to the farthest parts of the earth. They are the ten thousands of Ephraim. They are the thousands of Manasseh." 18 Of Zebulun he said, "Rejoice, Zebulun, in your going out; and Issachar, in your tents. 19 They shall call the peoples to the mountain. There they will offer sacrifices of righteousness, for they shall draw out the abundance of the seas, the hidden treasures of the sand." 20 Of Gad he said, "He who enlarges Gad is blessed. He dwells as a lioness, and tears the arm, yes, the crown of the head. 21 He provided the first part for himself, for there was the lawgiver's portion reserved. He came with the heads of the people. He executed the righteousness of the LORD, his ordinances with Israel." 22 Of Dan he said, "Dan is a lion's cub that leaps out of Bashan." 23 Of Naphtali he said, "Naphtali, satisfied with favor, full of the blessing of the LORD, Possess the west and the south." 24 Of Asher he said, "Asher is blessed with children. Let him be acceptable to his brothers. Let him dip his foot in oil. 25 Your bars shall be iron and bronze. As your days, so your strength will be. 26 "There is none like God, Jeshurun, who rides on the heavens for your help, In his majesty through the skies. 27 The God of old is a dwelling place. Underneath are the everlasting arms. He thrust out the enemy from before you, and said, 'Destroy.' 28 Israel dwells in safety; the fountain of Jacob alone, In a land of grain and new wine. Yes, his heavens drop down dew. 29 You are happy, Israel. Who is like you, a people saved by the LORD, the shield of your help, the sword of your excellency. Your enemies shall submit themselves to you. You shall tread on their high places."

Revelation 7:4-17

4 I heard the number of those who were sealed, one hundred forty-four thousand, sealed out of every tribe of the children of Israel: 5 of the tribe of Judah were sealed twelve thousand, of the tribe of Reuben twelve thousand, of the tribe of Gad twelve thousand, 6 of the tribe of Asher twelve thousand, of the tribe of Naphtali twelve thousand, of the tribe of Manasseh twelve thousand, 7 of the tribe of Simeon twelve thousand, of the tribe of Levi twelve thousand, of the tribe of Issachar twelve thousand, 8 of the tribe of Zebulun twelve thousand, of the tribe of Joseph twelve thousand, of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand. 9 After these things I looked, and suddenly there was a great multitude, which no one could number, out of every nation and of all tribes, peoples, and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, dressed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands. 10 They shouted with a loud voice, saying, "Salvation be to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb." 11 All the angels were standing around the throne, the elders, and the four living creatures; and they fell on their faces before the throne, and worshiped God, 12 saying, "Amen. Blessing, glory, wisdom, thanksgiving, honor, power, and might, be to our God forever and ever. Amen." 13 One of the elders answered, saying to me, "These who are arrayed in white robes, who are they, and from where did they come?" 14 So I said to him, "My lord, you know." He said to me, "These are the ones who came out of the great tribulation. They washed their robes, and made them white in the Lamb's blood. 15 Therefore they are before the throne of God, they serve him day and night in his temple. He who sits on the throne will spread his tabernacle over them. 16 They will hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither will the sun beat on them, nor any heat; 17 for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne shepherds them, and leads them to springs of waters of life. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."

2 Samuel 24:1-10

1 Again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them, saying, "Go, number Israel and Judah." 2 The king said to Joab and the captains of the army, who were with him, "Now go back and forth through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beersheba, and number the people, that I may know the sum of the people." 3 Joab said to the king, "Now may the LORD your God add to the people, however many they may be, one hundred times; and may the eyes of my lord the king see it. But why does my lord the king delight in this thing?" 4 Notwithstanding, the king's word prevailed against Joab, and against the captains of the army. Joab and the captains of the army went out from the presence of the king, to number the children of Israel. 5 They crossed over the Jordan and began at Aroer, and from the city that is in the middle of the valley of Gad; then on to Jazer. 6 Then they came to Gilead, and to the region of the Hethites, to Kedesh; and they came to Dan, and around to Sidon, 7 and came to the stronghold of Tyre, and to all the cities of the Hivites, and of the Canaanites; and they went out to the south of Judah, at Beersheba. 8 So when they had gone back and forth through all the land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days. 9 Joab gave up the sum of the numbering of the people to the king: and there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men who drew the sword; and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men. 10 David's heart struck him after that he had numbered the people. David said to the LORD, "I have sinned greatly in that which I have done. But now, LORD, put away, I beg you, the iniquity of your servant; for I have done very foolishly."

24 So she named him Joseph, saying, “May God add another son to me."

Genesis 37:1-36

1 Jacob lived in the land where his father had sojourned, in the land of Canaan. 2 These are the generations of Jacob. Joseph, being seventeen years old, tended the flock with his brothers; he was an assistant to the sons of Bilhah and Zilpah, his fatherʼs wives. And Joseph brought a bad report about them to their father. 3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his children, because he had been born to him in his old age. And he made a long ornamented robe for him. 4 His brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, and they hated him, and couldnʼt speak a kind word to him. 5 Now Joseph had a dream, and he told it to his brothers, and they hated him all the more. 6 He said to them, "Please listen to this dream I had: 7 And look, we were binding sheaves in the field, and look, my sheaf arose and also stood upright. And look, your sheaves gathered around it and bowed down to my sheaf." 8 Then his brothers said to him, "Will you indeed reign over us? Or will you indeed rule over us?" So they hated him all the more for his dreams and for what he said. 9 And he had another dream, and told it to his father and to his brothers, and said, "Look, I had yet another dream, and look, the sun and the moon and eleven stars bowed down to me." 10 When he told it to his father and to his brothers, his father rebuked him, and said to him, "What is this dream that you had? Will I and your mother and your brothers indeed come and bow down to the ground in front of you?" 11 His brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept thinking about the matter. 12 Now his brothers went to pasture their fatherʼs flock near Shechem. 13 And Israel said to Joseph, "Arenʼt your brothers pasturing the flock near Shechem? Come, and I will send you to them." And he said to him, "I am ready." 14 So he said to him, "Go now, see whether it is well with your brothers and well with the flock, and report back to me." So he sent him from the Valley of Hebron, and he came to Shechem. 15 And a man found him, and look, he was wandering in the field. And the man asked him, "What are you looking for?" 16 He said, "I am looking for my brothers. Tell me, please, where they are pasturing the flock." 17 The man said, "They have left here, for I heard them say, 'Let us go to Dothan.'" So Joseph went after his brothers, and found them in Dothan. 18 Now they saw him in the distance, and before he reached them they plotted against him to kill him. 19 And they said to one another, "Look, this dreamer is coming. 20 Come now, and letʼs kill him and throw him into one of the cisterns, and we will say that a vicious animal has devoured him. Then we will see what will become of his dreams." 21 But Reuben heard it, and delivered him out of their hands, and said, "Letʼs not take his life." 22 Reuben said to them, "Shed no blood. Throw him into this pit that is in the wilderness, but lay no hand on him"—that he might deliver him out of their hands, to restore him to his father. 23 It happened, when Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped Joseph of his robe, the long ornamented robe that he was wearing. 24 And they took him and threw him into the cistern. (Now the pit was empty. There was no water in it.) 25 Then they sat down to eat a meal. And they looked up, and look, a caravan of Ishmaelites was coming from Gilead, with their camels bearing aromatic gum and balm and myrrh on their way to carry them down to Egypt. 26 Then Judah said to his brothers, "What profit is it if we kill our brother and conceal his blood? 27 Come, and letʼs sell him to the Ishmaelites, and not lay a hand on him, for he is our brother, our flesh." And his brothers agreed. 28 So the Midianites merchants passed by, and they pulled him up and lifted Joseph out of the cistern, and sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver. And they brought Joseph to Egypt. 29 And Reuben returned to the cistern and saw that Joseph wasnʼt in the cistern; and he tore his clothes. 30 He went back to his brothers and said, "The boy is gone. Now, what am I to do?" 31 They took Josephʼs robe and killed a male goat and dipped the robe in the blood. 32 And they sent the long ornamented robe and they brought it to their father, and said, "We found this. Please examine it to see whether it is your sonʼs robe or not." 33 And he recognized it, and said, "It is my sonʼs robe. A vicious animal has devoured him. Joseph is without doubt torn to pieces." 34 Then Jacob tore his clothes, and put sackcloth around his waist, and mourned for his son many days. 35 All his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted. And he said, "Indeed, I will go down to Sheol to my son mourning." And his father wept for him. 36 Now the Midianites sold him into Egypt to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, the captain of the guard.

Genesis 39:1-23

1 Now Joseph was brought down to Egypt, and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaohʼs, the captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had brought him down there. 2 And the LORD was with Joseph, and he became a successful man. And he was in the household of his master the Egyptian. 3 And his master saw that God was with him, and that God made everything that he did to succeed in his hands. 4 So Joseph found favor in the sight of his master, and attended him, and he made him overseer of his house, and all that he had he put under his authority. 5 And it came about that from the time that he made him overseer of his household and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptianʼs house because of Joseph; and the blessing of the LORD was on all that he had, in the house and in the field. 6 So he left everything that he had in Josephʼs care. He did not concern himself with anything, except for the food which he ate. Now Joseph was handsome in form and appearance. 7 And it came to pass after these things that his masterʼs wife took notice of Joseph and she said, "Sleep with me." 8 But he refused, and said to his masterʼs wife, "Look, my master does not concern himself with anything in his house, and he has put all that he has into my care. 9 There is no one greater in this household than I am, nor has he kept back anything from me but you, since you are his wife. How then can I do such a great evil, and sin against God?" 10 And although she spoke to Joseph day after day, he did not listen to her to sleep with her or to be with her. 11 Now it happened about this time that he went into the house to do his work, and there were none of the men of the house inside. 12 She grabbed him by his garment, saying, "Sleep with me." And he left his garment in her hand and ran outside. 13 When she saw that he had left his garment in her hand and had run outside, 14 she called to the men of her house, and spoke to them, saying, “Look, he has brought in a Hebrew to us to mock us. He came in to me to sleep with me, and I cried with a loud voice. 15 It happened, when he heard that I raised my voice and cried out, that he left his garment by me and ran outside." 16 She left his garment by her, until his master came home. 17 And she told him the same story, saying, "The Hebrew servant, whom you have brought to us, came in to me to mock me, and said to me, x91Let me sleep with you.ʼ 18 But when I raised my voice and cried out, he left his garment beside me and ran outside." 19 And it happened when his master heard the words that his wife spoke to him, saying, "This is what your servant did to me," that he became furious. 20 Then Josephʼs master took him and put him into the prison, the place where the kingʼs prisoners were bound, and he was there in prison. 21 But the LORD was with Joseph and showed him kindness and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison. 22 The keeper of the prison put Joseph in charge of all the prisoners who were in the prison; he was made responsible for everything that was done there. 23 The keeper of the prison paid no attention to anything that was under his supervision, because God was with him, and made everything he did successful.

Genesis 46:20

20 To Joseph in the land of Egypt were born Manasseh and Ephraim, whom Asenath the daughter of Potiphera, priest of On, bore to him.

Genesis 48:1-22

1 And it came about after these things that someone said to Joseph, "Look, your father is sick." And taking with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim, he went to Jacob. 2 And someone reported to Jacob, and said, "Look, your son Joseph has come to you." Then Israel strengthened himself and sat up in the bed. 3 And Jacob said to Joseph, "El Shaddai appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan and blessed me, 4 and said to me, 'Look, I will make you fruitful and multiply you, and I will make of you a company of peoples, and will give this land to your descendants after you as an everlasting possession.' 5 And now your two sons, who were born to you in the land of Egypt before I came to you into Egypt, are mine; Ephraim and Manasseh will be mine, as Reuben and Simeon are. 6 And your offspring born to you after them will be yours. But in their inheritance they are to be called after the names of their brothers. 7 But as for me, when I came from Paddan Aram, Rachel died, in my sorrow, in the land of Canaan on the journey, when there was still some distance to go to Ephrath. And I buried her there on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem)." 8 Then Israel saw Josephʼs sons, and said, "Who are these?" 9 And Joseph said to his father, "They are my sons, whom God has given me here." And he said, "Please bring them to me, so that I can bless them." 10 Now the eyes of Israel were failing because of his age, so that he couldnʼt see. Then he brought them near to him, and he kissed them and embraced them. 11 And Israel said to Joseph, "I did not expect to see your face, but look, God has let me see your offspring as well." 12 Then Joseph brought them out from between his knees, and he bowed himself with his face to the ground. 13 And Joseph took them both, Ephraim in his right hand toward Israelʼs left hand, and Manasseh in his left hand toward Israelʼs right hand, and brought them near to him. 14 And Israel stretched out his right hand and placed it on Ephraimʼs head, who was the younger, and his left hand on Manassehʼs head, crossing his hands, although Manasseh was the firstborn. 15 Then he blessed Joseph, and said, "The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who has been my shepherd all my life to this day, 16 the Angel who has redeemed me from all evil, bless the boys. And may my name be carried on in them, and the names of my fathers Abraham and Isaac. And may they grow into a multitude upon the earth." 17 When Joseph saw that his father placed his right hand on the head of Ephraim, it displeased him, and he grasped his fatherʼs hand to move it from Ephraimʼs head to Manassehʼs head. 18 And Joseph said to his father, "Not so, my father, for this one is the firstborn. Put your right hand on his head." 19 But his father refused, and said, "I know, my son, I know. He also will become a people, and he also will be great. However, his younger brother will be greater than he, and his descendants will become a multitude of nations." 20 So he blessed them that day, saying, "By you Israel will pronounce blessing, saying, x91God make you as Ephraim and as Manasseh.ʼ" Thus he put Ephraim before Manasseh. 21 Then Israel said to Joseph, "Look, I am about to die, but God will be with you, and God will bring you back from this land to the land of your fathers. 22 Moreover, I give to you one portion more than your brothers, which I took out of the hand of the Amorites with my sword and with my bow."

Eleazar and Ithamar ministered in the priest's office in the presence of Aaron their father. 5 The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 6 "Bring the tribe of Levi near, and set them before Aaron the priest, that they may minister to him. 7 They shall keep his requirements, and the requirements of the whole congregation before the Tent of Meeting, to do the service of the tabernacle. 8 They shall keep all the furnishings of the Tent of Meeting, and the obligations of the children of Israel, to do the service of the tabernacle. 9 You shall give the Levites to Aaron and to his sons. They are wholly given to him on the behalf of the children of Israel. 10 And you shall appoint Aaron and his sons, and they shall attend to their priesthood; but the unauthorized person who comes near shall be put to death." 11 The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 12 "Look, I have taken the Levites from among the children of Israel instead of all the firstborn who open the womb among the children of Israel; and the Levites shall be mine: 13 for all the firstborn are mine. On the day that I struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt I made holy to me all the firstborn in Israel, both man and animal. They shall be mine. I am the LORD." 14 The LORD spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, saying, 15 "Count the descendants of Levi by their fathers' houses, by their families. You shall count every male from a month old and upward." 16 Moses numbered them according to the word of the LORD, as he was commanded. 17 These were the sons of Levi by their names: Gershon, and Kohath, and Merari. 18 These are the names of the sons of Gershon by their families: Libni and Shimei. 19 The sons of Kohath by their families: Amram, and Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel. 20 The sons of Merari by their families: Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of Merari. 34 Those who were numbered of them, according to the number of all the males, from a month old and upward, were six thousand two hundred. 35 The prince of the fathers' house of the families of Merari was Zuriel the son of Abihail. They shall camp on the north side of the tabernacle. 36 The appointed duty of the sons of Merari shall be the tabernacle's boards, its bars, its pillars, its sockets, all its instruments, all its service, 37 the pillars of the court around it, their sockets, their pins, and their cords. 38 Those who camp before the tabernacle eastward, in front of the Tent of Meeting toward the sunrise, shall be Moses, and Aaron and his sons, keeping the requirements of the sanctuary for the duty of the children of Israel. The stranger who comes near shall be put to death. 39 All who were numbered of the Levites, whom Moses and Aaron numbered at the commandment of the LORD, by their families, all the males from a month old and upward, were twenty-two thousand. 40 The LORD said to Moses, "Number all the firstborn males of the children of Israel from a month old and upward, and take the number of their names. 41 You shall take the Levites for me (I am the LORD) instead of all the firstborn among the children of Israel; and the livestock of the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the livestock of the children of Israel." 42 Moses numbered, as the LORD commanded him, all the firstborn among the children of Israel. 43 All the firstborn males according to the number of names, from a month old and upward, of those who were numbered of them, were twenty-two thousand two hundred seventy-three. 44 The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 45 "Take the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the children of Israel, and the livestock of the Levites instead of their livestock; and the Levites shall be mine. I am the LORD. 46 For the redemption of the two hundred seventy-three of the firstborn of the children of Israel, who exceed the number of the Levites, 47 you shall take five shekels apiece for each one; after the shekel of the sanctuary you shall take them (the shekel is twenty gerahs): 48 and you shall give the money, with which the remainder of them is redeemed, to Aaron and to his sons." 49 Moses took the redemption money from those who exceeded the number of those who were redeemed by the Levites;

These things are the burden of the sons of Kohath in the Tent of Meeting. 16 "The duty of Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest shall be the oil for the light, the sweet incense, the continual meal offering, and the anointing oil, the requirements of all the tabernacle, and of all that is in it, the sanctuary, and its furnishings." 17 The LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, 18 "Do not cut off the tribe of the families of the Kohathites from among the Levites; 19 but thus do to them, that they may live, and not die, when they approach to the most holy things: Aaron and his sons shall go in, and appoint them everyone to his service and to his burden; 20 but they shall not go in to see the sanctuary even for a moment, lest they die." 21 The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 22 "Take a census of the sons of Gershon also, by their fathers' houses, by their families; 23 you shall count them from thirty years old and upward until fifty years old; all who enter in to wait on the service, to do the work in the Tent of Meeting. 24 This is the service of the families of the Gershonites, in serving and in bearing burdens: 25 they shall carry the curtains of the tabernacle, and the Tent of Meeting, its covering, and the covering of sealskin that is above on it, and the screen for the door of the Tent of Meeting, 26 and the tapestries of the court, and the screen for the door of the gate of the court, which is by the tabernacle and around the altar, and their cords, and all the instruments of their service, and whatever shall be done with them. From its base to its flowers, it was beaten work: according to the pattern which the LORD had shown Moses, so he made the lampstand. 5 The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 6 "Take the Levites from among the children of Israel, and cleanse them. 7 You shall do this to them, to cleanse them: sprinkle the water of cleansing on them, let them shave their whole bodies with a razor, and let them wash their clothes, and cleanse themselves. 8 Then let them take a young bull, and its meal offering, fine flour mixed with oil; and another young bull you shall take for a sin offering. 9 You shall present the Levites before the Tent of Meeting. You shall assemble the whole congregation of the children of Israel. 10 You shall present the Levites before the LORD. The children of Israel shall lay their hands on the Levites, 11 and Aaron shall offer the Levites before the LORD for a wave offering, on the behalf of the children of Israel, that it may be theirs to do the service of the LORD. 12 The Levites shall lay their hands on the heads of the bulls, and you shall offer the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering to the LORD, to make atonement for the Levites. 13 You shall set the Levites before Aaron, and before his sons, and offer them as a wave offering to the LORD. 14 Thus you shall separate the Levites from among the children of Israel, and the Levites shall be mine. 15 "After that, the Levites shall go in to do the service of the Tent of Meeting: and you shall cleanse them, and offer them as a wave offering. 16 For they are wholly given to me from among the children of Israel; instead of all who open the womb, even the firstborn of all the children of Israel, I have taken them to me. 17 For all the firstborn among the children of Israel are mine, both man and animal. On the day that I struck all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, I sanctified them for myself. 18 I have taken the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the children of Israel. 19 I have given the Levites as a gift to Aaron and to his sons from among the children of Israel, to do the service of the children of Israel in the Tent of Meeting, and to make atonement for the children of Israel; that there be no plague among the children of Israel, when the children of Israel come near to the sanctuary." 20 Moses, and Aaron, and all the congregation of the children of Israel did so to the Levites. According to all that the LORD commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so the children of Israel did to them. 21 The Levites purified themselves from sin, and they washed their clothes; and Aaron offered them for a wave offering before the LORD; and Aaron made atonement for them to cleanse them. 22 After that, the Levites went in to do their service in the Tent of Meeting before Aaron, and before his sons: as the LORD had commanded Moses concerning the Levites, so they did to them. 23 The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 24 "This is that which belongs to the Levites: from twenty-five years old and upward they shall go in to wait on the service in the work of the Tent of Meeting; 25 and from the age of fifty years they shall cease waiting on the work, and shall serve no more, 26 but shall minister with their brothers in the Tent of Meeting, to perform the duty, and shall do no service. You shall do thus to the Levites concerning their duties."

Numbers 26:57-62

57 These are those who were numbered of the Levites after their families: of Gershon, the family of the Gershonites; of Kohath, the family of the Kohathites; of Merari, the family of the Merarites. 58 These are the families of Levi: the family of the Libnites, the family of the Hebronites, the family of the Mahlites, the family of the Mushites, the family of the Korahites. Kohath became the father of Amram. 59 The name of Amram's wife was Jochebed, the daughter of Levi, who was born to Levi in Egypt: and she bore to Amram Aaron and Moses, and Miriam their sister. 60 To Aaron were born Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. 61 Nadab and Abihu died, when they offered strange fire before the LORD. 62 Those who were numbered of them were twenty-three thousand, every male from a month old and upward: for they were not numbered among the children of Israel, because there was no inheritance given them among the children of Israel.

Of the descendants of the Kohathites: Heman the singer, the son of Joel, the son of Samuel, 34 the son of Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Eliel, the son of Toah, 35 the son of Zuph, the son of Elkanah, the son of Mahath, the son of Amasai, 36 the son of Elkanah, the son of Joel, the son of Azariah, the son of Zephaniah, 37 the son of Tahath, the son of Assir, the son of Abiasaph, the son of Korah, 38 the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, the son of Israel. 39 His brother Asaph, who stood on his right hand, even Asaph the son of Berechiah, the son of Shimea, 40 the son of Michael, the son of Maaseiah, the son of Malchijah, 41 the son of Ethni, the son of Zerah, the son of Adaiah, 42 the son of Ethan, the son of Zimmah, the son of Shimei, 43 the son of Jahath, the son of Gershom, the son of Levi. 44 On the left hand their brothers the descendants of Merari: Ethan the son of Kishi, the son of Abdi, the son of Malluch, 45 the son of Hashabiah, the son of Amaziah, the son of Hilkiah, 46 the son of Amzi, the son of Bani, the son of Shemer, 47 the son of Mahli, the son of Mushi, the son of Merari, the son of Levi. 48 Their brothers the Levites were appointed for all the service of the tabernacle of the house of God. 49 But Aaron and his sons offered on the altar of burnt offering, and on the altar of incense, for all the work of the most holy place, and to make atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses the servant of God had commanded. 50 These are the descendants of Aaron: Eleazar his son, Phinehas his son, Abishua his son, 51 Bukki his son, Uzzi his son, Zerahiah his son, 52 Meraioth his son, Amariah his son, Ahitub his son, 53 Zadok his son, Ahimaaz his son. 54 Now these are their dwelling places according to their encampments in their borders: to the descendants of Aaron, of the families of the Kohathites (for theirs was the first lot), 55 to them they gave Hebron in the land of Judah, and its suburbs around it; 56 but the fields of the city, and its villages, they gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh. 57 To the descendants of Aaron they gave the cities of refuge, Hebron; Libnah also with its suburbs, and Jattir, and Eshtemoa with its suburbs, 58 and Hilen with its suburbs, Debir with its suburbs, 59 and Ashan with its suburbs, and Juttah with its suburbs, and Beth Shemesh with its suburbs; 60 and out of the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon with its suburbs, Geba with its suburbs, and Allemeth with its suburbs, and Anathoth with its suburbs. Exodus 32:26-29

26 then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, "Whoever is on the LORD's side, come to me." All the sons of Levi gathered themselves together to him. 27 He said to them, "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, 'Every man put his sword on his thigh, and go back and forth from gate to gate throughout the camp, and every man kill his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbor.'" 28 The sons of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men. 29 And Moses said, "You have been consecrated today to the LORD, each one at the cost of his son and of his brother, so he has given a blessing to you this day."

Exodus 38:21

Numbers 3:1-10

1 Now these are the generations of Aaron and Moses in the day that the LORD spoke with Moses in Mount Sinai. 2 These are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab the firstborn, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. 3 These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the priests who were anointed, whom he consecrated to minister in the priest's office. 4 Nadab and Abihu died before the LORD, when they offered strange fire before the LORD, in the wilderness of Sinai, and they had no children. Eleazar and Ithamar ministered in the priest's office in the presence of Aaron their father. 5 The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 6 "Bring the tribe of Levi near, and set them before Aaron the priest, that they may minister to him. 7 They shall keep his requirements, and the requirements of the whole congregation before the Tent of Meeting, to do the service of the tabernacle. 8 They shall keep all the furnishings of the Tent of Meeting, and the obligations of the children of Israel, to do the service of the tabernacle. 9 You shall give the Levites to Aaron and to his sons. They are wholly given to him on the behalf of the children of Israel. 10 And you shall appoint Aaron and his sons, and they shall attend to their priesthood; but the unauthorized person who comes near shall be put to death."

Numbers 3:23-38

23 The families of the Gershonites shall camp behind the tabernacle westward. 24 The prince of the fathers' house of the Gershonites shall be Eliasaph the son of Lael. 25 The duty of the sons of Gershon in the Tent of Meeting shall be the tabernacle, and the tent, its covering, and the screen for the door of the Tent of Meeting, 26 and the curtaining of the court, and the screen for the door of the court, which is by the tabernacle, and around the altar, and its cords for all of its service. 27 Of Kohath was the family of the Amramites, and the family of the Izharites, and the family of the Hebronites, and the family of the Uzzielites: these are the families of the Kohathites. 28 According to the number of all the males, from a month old and upward, there were eight thousand six hundred, keeping the requirements of the sanctuary. 29 The families of the sons of Kohath shall camp on the south side of the tabernacle. 30 The prince of the fathers' house of the families of the Kohathites shall be Elizaphan the son of Uzziel. 31 Their duty shall be the ark, the table, the lamp stand, the altars, the vessels of the sanctuary with which they minister, and the screen, and all its service. 32 Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest shall be chief of the leaders of the Levites, with the oversight of those who keep the requirements of the sanctuary. 33 Of Merari was the family of the Mahlites, and the family of the Mushites. These are the families of Merari. 34 Those who were numbered of them, according to the number of all the males, from a month old and upward, were six thousand two hundred. 35 The prince of the fathers' house of the families of Merari was Zuriel the son of Abihail. They shall camp on the north side of the tabernacle. 36 The appointed duty of the sons of Merari shall be the tabernacle's boards, its bars, its pillars, its sockets, all its instruments, all its service, 37 the pillars of the court around it, their sockets, their pins, and their cords. 38 Those who camp before the tabernacle eastward, in front of the Tent of Meeting toward the sunrise, shall be Moses, and Aaron and his sons, keeping the requirements of the sanctuary for the duty of the children of Israel. The stranger who comes near shall be put to death.

Numbers 4:15

15 "When Aaron and his sons have finished covering the sanctuary, and all the furniture of the sanctuary, as the camp moves forward; after that, the sons of Kohath shall come to carry it: but they shall not touch the sanctuary, lest they die. These things are the burden of the sons of Kohath in the Tent of Meeting.

Numbers 4:25-33

25 they shall carry the curtains of the tabernacle, and the Tent of Meeting, its covering, and the covering of sealskin that is above on it, and the screen for the door of the Tent of Meeting, 26 and the tapestries of the court, and the screen for the door of the gate of the court, which is by the tabernacle and around the altar, and their cords, and all the instruments of their service, and whatever shall be done with them. So they are to serve. 27 At the commandment of Aaron and his sons shall be all the service of the sons of the Gershonites, in all their burden, and in all their service; and you shall appoint their duty to them in all their responsibilities. 28 This is the service of the families of the sons of the Gershonites in the Tent of Meeting: and their duty shall be under the hand of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest. 29 "As for the sons of Merari, you shall number them by their families, by their fathers' houses; 30 you shall count them from thirty years old and upward even to fifty years old, everyone who enters on the service, to do the work of the Tent of Meeting. 31 This is the duty of their burden, according to all their service in the Tent of Meeting: the tabernacle's boards, its bars, its pillars, its sockets, 32 and the pillars of the court around it, and their sockets, and their pins, and their cords, with all their instruments, and with all their service: and by name you shall appoint the instruments of the duty of their burden. 33 This is the service of the families of the sons of Merari, according to all their service, in the Tent of Meeting, under the hand of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest."

Numbers 10:21

Numbers 20:11

11 Moses lifted up his hand, and struck the rock with his rod twice: and water came forth abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their livestock.

1 Chronicles 23:1-32

1 Now David was old and full of days; and he made Solomon his son king over Israel. 2 And he gathered together all the leaders of Israel, with the priests and the Levites. 3 The Levites were numbered from thirty years old and upward: and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty-eight thousand. 4 David said, "Of these, twenty-four thousand were to oversee the work of the house of the LORD; six thousand were officers and judges; 5 four thousand were doorkeepers; and four thousand praised the LORD with the instruments which I made, for giving praise." 6 David divided them into divisions according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. 7 Of the Gershonites: Ladan and Shimei. 8 The sons of Ladan: Jehiel the chief, and Zetham, and Joel, three. 9 The sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, and Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the heads of the ancestral houses of Ladan. 10 The sons of Shimei: Jahath, Zizah, and Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei. 11 Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second: but Jeush and Beriah did not have many sons; therefore they became a fathers' house in one reckoning. 12 The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four. 13 The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses; and Aaron was separated, that he should sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons, forever, to burn incense before the LORD, to minister to him, and to bless in his name, forever. 14 But as for Moses the man of God, his sons were named among the tribe of Levi. 15 The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer. 16 The sons of Gershom: Shubael the chief. 17 The sons of Eliezer were: Rehabiah the chief; and Eliezer had no other sons; but the sons of Rehabiah were very many. 18 The sons of Izhar: Shelomoth the chief. 19 The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the chief, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth. 20 The sons of Uzziel: Micah the chief, and Isshiah the second. 21 The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish. 22 Eleazar died, and had no sons, but daughters only: and their brothers the sons of Kish took them as wives. 23 The sons of Mushi: Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth, three. 24 These were the sons of Levi after their fathers' houses, even the heads of ancestral houses of those who were counted individually, in the number of names by their polls, who do the work for the service of the house of the LORD, from twenty years old and upward. 25 For David said, "The LORD, the God of Israel, has given rest to his people; and he dwells in Jerusalem forever. 26 Also the Levites will no longer need to carry the tabernacle and all its vessels for its service." 27 For by the last words of David the sons of Levi were numbered, from twenty years old and upward. 28 For their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the LORD, in the courts, and in the rooms, and in the purifying of all holy things, even the work of the service of God's house, 29 involving the show bread, the fine flour for a meal offering, whether of unleavened wafers, or of that which is baked in the pan, or of that which is soaked, and for all kinds of measure and size; 30 and to stand every morning to thank and praise the LORD, and likewise in the evening; 31 and to offer all burnt offerings to the LORD, on the Sabbaths, on the new moons, and on the set feasts, in number according to the ordinance concerning them, continually before the LORD; 32 and that they should keep the duty of the Tent of Meeting, and the duty of the holy place, and the duty of the sons of Aaron their brothers, for the service of the house of the LORD.

1 Chronicles 25:1-26

1 Moreover, David and the captains of the army set apart for the service certain of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, were to prophesy with harps, with stringed instruments, and with cymbals: and the number of those who did the work according to their service was: 2 of the sons of Asaph: Zakkur, and Joseph, and Nethaniah, and Asarelah, the sons of Asaph, under the hand of Asaph, who prophesied after the order of the king. 3 Of Jeduthun; the sons of Jeduthun: Gedaliah, and Zeri, and Jeshaiah, and Shimei, and Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six, under the hands of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied with the harp in giving thanks and praising the LORD. 4 Of Heman; the sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shubael, and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, and Romamti-Ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, Mahazioth. 5 All these were the sons of Heman the king's seer in the words of God, to lift up the horn. God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters. 6 All these were under the hands of their father for song in the house of the LORD, with cymbals, stringed instruments, and harps, for the service of God's house; Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman being under the order of the king. 7 The number of them, with their brothers who were instructed in singing to the LORD, even all who were skillful, was two hundred eighty-eight. 8 And they cast lots, watch with watch, the small as the great, the teacher as the pupil. 9 Now the first lot came out for Asaph of Joseph, his sons and his brothers, twelve; the second to Gedaliah, his brothers and his sons, twelve: 10 the third to Zakkur, his sons and his brothers, twelve: 11 the fourth to Zeri, his sons and his brothers, twelve: 12 the fifth to Nethaniah, his sons and his brothers, twelve: 13 the sixth to Bukkiah, his sons and his brothers, twelve: 14 the seventh to Asarelah, his sons and his brothers, twelve: 15 the eighth to Jeshaiah, his sons and his brothers, twelve: 16 the ninth to Mattaniah, his sons and his brothers, twelve: 17 the tenth to Shimei, his sons and his brothers, twelve: 18 the eleventh to Uzziel, his sons and his brothers, twelve: 19 the twelfth to Hashabiah, his sons and his brothers, twelve: 20 for the thirteenth, Shubael, his sons and his brothers, twelve: 21 for the fourteenth, Mattithiah, his sons and his brothers, twelve: 22 for the fifteenth to Jerimoth, his sons and his brothers, twelve: 23 for the sixteenth to Hananiah, his sons and his brothers, twelve: 24 for the seventeenth to Joshbekashah, his sons and his brothers, twelve: 25 for the eighteenth to Hanani, his sons and his brothers, twelve: 26 for the nineteenth to Mallothi, his sons and his brothers, twelve:

Ezra 8:25-30

25 and weighed to them the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, even the offering for the house of our God, which the king, and his counselors, and his officials, and all Israel there present, had offered: 26 I weighed into their hand six hundred fifty talents of silver, and silver vessels one hundred talents; of gold one hundred talents; 27 and twenty bowls of gold, of one thousand darics; and two vessels of fine bright bronze, precious as gold. 28 I said to them, "You are holy to the LORD, and the vessels are holy; and the silver and the gold are a freewill offering to the LORD, the God of your fathers. 29 Watch, and keep them, until you weigh them before the chiefs of the priests and the Levites, and the leaders of the ancestral houses of Israel, at Jerusalem, in the rooms of the house of the LORD." 30 So the priests and the Levites received the weight of the silver and the gold, and the vessels, to bring them to Jerusalem to the house of our God.

Ezra 8:33-34

33 On the fourth day the silver and the gold and the vessels were weighed in the house of our God into the hand of Meremoth the son of Uriah the priest; and with him was Eleazar the son of Phinehas; and with them was Jozabad the son of Jeshua, and Noadiah the son of Binnui, the Levite; 34 the whole by number and by weight: and all the weight was written at that time.

Nehemiah 12:8

8 Moreover the Levites: Jeshua, Binnui, Kadmiel, Sherebiah, Judah, and Mattaniah, who was over the thanksgiving, he and his brothers.

Nehemiah 12:22

22 As for the Levites, in the days of Eliashib, Joiada, and Johanan, and Jaddua, there were recorded the heads of ancestral houses; also the priests, in the reign of Daryavesh the Persian.

Nehemiah 12:47

47 All Israel in the days of Zerubbabel, and in the days of Nehemiah, gave the portions of the singers and the gatekeepers, as every day required: and they set apart that which was for the Levites; and the Levites set apart that which was for the sons of Aaron.

Nehemiah 13:5

5 had prepared for him a great room, where before they laid the meal offerings, the frankincense, and the vessels, and the tithes of the grain, the new wine, and the oil, which were given by commandment to the Levites, and the singers, and the gatekeepers; and the wave offerings for the priests.

Nehemiah 13:10-13

10 I perceived that the portions of the Levites had not been given them; so that the Levites and the singers, who did the work, had fled everyone to his field. 11 Then I contended with the rulers, and said, "Why is God's house forsaken?" I gathered them together, and set them in their place. 12 Then brought all Judah the tithe of the grain and the new wine and the oil to the treasuries. 13 I made treasurers over the treasuries, Shelemiah the priest, and Zadok the scribe, and of the Levites, Pedaiah: and next to them was Hanan the son of Zakkur, the son of Mattaniah; for they were counted faithful, and their business was to distribute to their brothers.

Nehemiah 13:22

22 I commanded the Levites that they should purify themselves, and that they should come and keep the gates, to sanctify the Sabbath day. Remember to me, my God, this also, and spare me according to the greatness of your loving kindness.

Psalms 122:4

24 This is the service of the families of the Gershonites, in serving and in bearing burdens:

Numbers 10:1-36

1 The LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 2 "Make two trumpets of silver. You shall make them of beaten work. You shall use them for the calling of the congregation, and for the journeying of the camps. 3 When they blow them, all the congregation shall gather themselves to you at the door of the Tent of Meeting. 4 But if they blow just one, then the leaders, the heads of the thousands of Israel, shall gather themselves to you. 5 When you blow an alarm, the camps that lie on the east side shall go forward. 6 When you blow an alarm the second time, the camps that lie on the south side shall go forward. They shall blow an alarm for their journeys. 7 But when the assembly is to be gathered together, you shall blow, but you shall not sound an alarm. 8 The sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow the trumpets. This shall be to you for a statute forever throughout your generations. 9 When you go to war in your land against the adversary who oppresses you, then you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets. Then you will be remembered before the LORD your God, and you will be saved from your enemies. 10 "Also in the day of your gladness, and in your set feasts, and in the beginnings of your months, you shall blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; and they shall be to you for a memorial before your God. I am the LORD your God." 11 It happened in the second year, in the second month, on the twentieth day of the month, that the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle of the testimony. 12 The children of Israel went forward according to their journeys out of the wilderness of Sinai; and the cloud abode in the wilderness of Paran. 13 They first went forward according to the commandment of the LORD by Moses. 14 First, the standard of the camp of the people of Judah went forward according to their armies. Nahshon the son of Amminadab was over his army. 15 Nethanel the son of Zuar was over the army of the tribe of the people of Issachar. 16 Eliab the son of Helon was over the army of the tribe of the people of Zebulun. 17 The tabernacle was taken down; and the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari, who bore the tabernacle, went forward. 18 The standard of the camp of Reuben went forward according to their armies. Elizur the son of Shedeur was over his army. 19 Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai was over the army of the tribe of the people of Simeon. 20 Eliasaph the son of Reuel was over the army of the tribe of the people of Gad. 21 The Kohathites set forward, bearing the sanctuary. The others set up the tabernacle before they arrived. 22 The standard of the camp of the people of Ephraim set forward according to their armies. Come with us, and we will treat you well; for the LORD has spoken good concerning Israel." 30 He said to him, "I will not go; but I will depart to my own land, and to my relatives." 31 He said, "Do not leave us, please; because you know how we are to camp in the wilderness, and you can be our eyes. 32 And it shall be, if you go with us, that it shall be that whatever good the LORD does to us, we will do the same to you." 33 They set forward from the Mount of the LORD three days' journey. The ark of the covenant of the LORD went before them three days' journey, to seek out a resting place for them. 34 The cloud of the LORD was over them by day, when they set forward from the camp. 35 It happened, when the ark went forward, that Moses said, "Rise up, LORD, and let your enemies be scattered. Let those who hate you flee before you." 36 When it rested, he said, "Return, LORD, to the ten thousands of the thousands of Israel."
