¹ Jesus answered and spoke again in parables to them, saying, ² "The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king, who made a marriage feast for his son, ³ and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the marriage feast, but they would not come. ⁴ Again he sent out other servants, saying, 'Tell those who are invited, "Look, I have made ready my dinner. My cattle and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the marriage feast."' ⁵ But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his merchandise, ⁶ and the rest grabbed his servants, and treated them shamefully, and killed them. ⁷ The king was enraged, and sent his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city. ⁸ "Then he said to his servants, 'The wedding is ready, but those who were invited weren't worthy. ⁹ Go therefore to the intersections of the highways, and as many as you may find, invite to the marriage feast.' ¹⁰ And those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all they found, both bad and good, and the wedding was filled with those reclining. ¹¹ But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man who did not have on wedding clothing, ¹² and he said to him, 'Friend, how did you come in here not wearing wedding clothing?' He was speechless. ¹³ Then the king said to the servants, 'Bind him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness; there is where the weeping and grinding of teeth will be.' ¹⁴ For many are called, but few chosen." ¹⁵ Then the Pharisees went and took counsel how they might entrap him in his talk. ¹⁶ They sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that you are honest, and teach the way of God in truth, no matter whom you teach, for you are not partial to anyone. ¹⁷ Tell us therefore, what do you think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?" ¹⁸ But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, "Why do you test me, you hypocrites? ¹⁹ Show me the tax money." They brought to him a denarius. ²⁰ He asked them, "Whose is this image and inscription?" ²¹ They said to him, "Caesar's." Then he said to them, "Give therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." ²² When they heard it, they were astonished, and left him, and went away. ²³ On that day Sadducees came to him, the ones saying that there is no resurrection. And they asked him, ²⁴ saying, "Teacher, Moses said, 'If a man dies, having no children, his brother is to marry his wife, and raise up offspring for his brother.' ²⁵ Now there were with us seven brothers. The first married and died, and having no offspring, left his wife to his brother. ²⁶ In like manner the second also, and the third, to the seventh. ²⁷ After them all, the woman died. ²⁸ In the resurrection therefore, whose wife will she be of the seven? For they all had her." ²⁹ But Jesus answered them, "You are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God. ³⁰ For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are like the angels in heaven. ³¹ But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read that which was spoken to you by God, saying, ³² 'I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?' God is not the God of the dead, but of the living." ³³ When the crowds heard it, they were astonished at his teaching. ³⁴ But the Pharisees, when they heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, gathered themselves together. ³⁵ One of them, a Law scholar, asked him a question, testing him. ³⁶ "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?" ³⁷ He said to him, "'You are to love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' ³⁸ This is the great and first commandment. ³⁹ A second likewise is this, 'You are to love your neighbor as yourself.' ⁴⁰ The whole Law and the Prophets depend on these two commandments." ⁴¹ Now while the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them a question, ⁴² saying, "What do you think of the Christ? Whose son is he?" They said to him, "Of David." ⁴³ He said to them, "How then does David in the Spirit call him Lord, saying, ⁴⁴ 'The Lord said to my Lord, sit on my right hand, until I make your enemies the footstool of your feet'? ⁴⁵ "If then David calls him Lord, how is he his son?" ⁴⁶ No one was able to answer him a word, neither did anyone dare ask him any more questions from that day forth.

¹⁵ And Jesus said to them, "Can the friends of the bridegroom mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast. ¹⁶ And no one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for the patch would tear away from the garment, and a worse hole is made. ¹⁷ Neither do people put new wine into old wineskins, or else the skins would burst, and the wine pours out, and the skins ruined. No, they put new wine into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved."

⁴³ But the unclean spirit, when he is gone out of the person, passes through waterless places, seeking rest, and does not find it. ⁴⁴ Then he says, 'I will return into my house from which I came out,' and when he has come back, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. ⁴⁵ Then he goes, and takes with himself seven other spirits more evil than he is, and they enter in and dwell there. The last state of that person becomes worse than the first. Even so will it be also to this evil generation."

³ And he spoke to them many things in parables, saying, "Look, a farmer went out to sow. ⁴ And as he sowed, some seeds fell by the roadside, and the birds came and devoured them. ⁵ And others fell on rocky ground, where they did not have much soil, and immediately they sprang up, because they had no depth of earth. ⁶ But when the sun had risen, they were scorched. Because they had no root, they withered away. ⁷ Others fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. ⁸ Still others fell on good soil, and yielded fruit: some one hundred times as much, some sixty, and some thirty. ⁹ He who has ears, let him hear." ¹⁰ Then the disciples came, and said to him, "Why do you speak to them in parables?" ¹¹ And answering, he said to them, "To you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but it is not given to them.

¹ "For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. ² When he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard. ³ He went out about nine in the morning, and saw others standing idle in the marketplace. ⁴ To them he said, 'You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you.' So they went their way. ⁵ Again he went out about noon and at three in the afternoon, and did likewise. ⁶ About five that afternoon he went out, and found others standing. He said to them, 'Why do you stand here all day idle?' ⁷ "They said to him, 'Because no one has hired us.' "He said to them, 'You also go into the vineyard.' ⁸ When evening had come, the lord of the vineyard said to his manager, 'Call the laborers and pay them their wages, beginning from the last to the first.' ⁹ "When those who were hired at about five in the afternoon came, they each received a denarius. ¹⁰ When the first came, they supposed that they would receive more; and they likewise each received a denarius. ¹¹ When they received it, they murmured against the master of the household, ¹² saying, 'These last have spent one hour, and you have made them equal to us, who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.' ¹³ "But he answered one of them, 'Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius? ¹⁴ Take that which is yours, and go your way. It is my desire to give to this last just as much as to you. ¹⁵ Is it not lawful for me to do what I want to with what I own? Or is your eye evil, because I am good?' ¹⁶ So the last will be first, and the first last; for many are called, but few are chosen."

²⁸ But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first, and said, 'Son, go work today in the vineyard.' ²⁹ He answered, 'I will not,' but afterward he changed his mind, and went. ³⁰ And he came to the other, and said the same thing. And he answered and said, 'I go, sir,' but he did not go. ³¹ Which of the two did the will of his father?" They said, "The first." Jesus said to them, "Truly I tell you that the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering into the Kingdom of God before you. ³² For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him. When you saw it, you did not even repent afterward, that you might believe him. ³³ "Hear another parable. There was a landowner who planted a vineyard, set a hedge about it, dug a winepress in it, built a tower, leased it out to tenant farmers, and went on a journey. ³⁴ When the season for the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants, to receive his fruit. ³⁵ The tenants took his servants, beat one, killed another, and stoned another. ³⁶ Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they treated them the same way. ³⁷ But afterward he sent to them his son, saying, 'They will respect my son.' ³⁸ But the tenants, when they saw the son, said among themselves, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, and have his inheritance.' ³⁹ So they took him, and threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him. ⁴⁰ When therefore the lord of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?" ⁴¹ They told him, "He will utterly destroy those evil men, and will lease out the vineyard to other tenants, who will give him the fruit in its season." ⁴² Jesus said to them, "Did you never read in the Scriptures, 'The stone which the builders rejected, the same was made the head of the corner. This was from the Lord. It is marvelous in our eyes?' ⁴³ "Therefore I tell you, the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you, and will be given to a nation bringing forth its fruit. ⁴⁴ He who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it will fall, it will crush him." ⁴⁵ When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they perceived that he spoke about them. ⁴⁶ When they sought to seize him, they feared the crowds, because they considered him to be a prophet.

³³ And with many such parables he spoke the word to them, as they were able to hear it. ³⁴ And he did not speak to them without a parable; but privately to his own disciples he explained everything.

¹⁰ He said, "To you it is given to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of God, but to the rest in parables; that 'seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.'

¹⁶ But he said to him, "A certain man made a great supper, and he invited many people.

¹⁰ Listen, daughter, consider, and turn your ear. Forget your own people, and also your father's house. ¹¹ So the king will desire your beauty, honor him, for he is your lord. ¹² The daughter of Tyre comes with a gift. The rich among the people will seek your favor. ¹³ The princess inside is all glorious. Her clothing is interwoven with gold. ¹⁴ She shall be led to the king in embroidered work. The virgins, her companions who follow her, shall be brought to you. ¹⁵ With gladness and rejoicing they shall be led. They shall enter into the king's palace. ¹⁶ Your sons will take the place of your fathers. You shall make them princes in all the earth.

²⁴ He set another parable before them, saying, "The kingdom of heaven is like a person who sowed good seed in his field,

³¹ He set another parable before them, saying, "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field; ³² which indeed is smaller than all seeds. But when it is grown, it is greater than the herbs, and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in its branches." ³³ He spoke another parable to them. "The kingdom of heaven is like yeast, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, until it was all leavened."

⁴⁴ "The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field, which a man found, and hid. In his joy, he goes and sells all that he has, and buys that field. ⁴⁵ "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a man who is a merchant seeking fine pearls, ⁴⁶ and having found one pearl of great price, he went and sold all that he had, and bought it. ⁴⁷ "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet, that was cast into the sea, and gathered some fish of every kind,

¹ "Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins, who took their lamps, and went out to meet the bridegroom. ² Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. ³ For the foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them, ⁴ but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. ⁵ Now while the bridegroom delayed, they all slumbered and slept. ⁶ But at midnight there was a cry, 'Look. The bridegroom. Come out to meet him.' ⁷ Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. ⁸ The foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' ⁹ But the wise answered, saying, 'No, there will not be enough for us and you. Go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.' ¹⁰ While they went away to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. ¹¹ Afterward the other virgins also came, saying, 'Lord, Lord, open to us.' ¹² But he answered, 'Truly I tell you, I do not know you.' ¹³ Watch therefore, for you do not know the day nor the hour. ¹⁴ "For it is like a man, going on a journey, who called his own servants, and entrusted his goods to them.

¹⁶ But he said to him, "A certain man made a great supper, and he invited many people. ¹⁷ And he sent his servant at the hour for supper to tell those who were invited, 'Come, for everything is ready now.' ¹⁸ They all as one began to make excuses. "The first said to him, 'I have bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please have me excused.' ¹⁹ "Another said, 'I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I must go try them out. Please have me excused.' ²⁰ "Another said, 'I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.' ²¹ "That servant came, and told his lord these things. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant, 'Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor, maimed, blind, and lame.' ²² "The servant said, 'Lord, it is done as you commanded, and there is still room.' ²³ "The lord said to the servant, 'Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. ²⁴ For I tell you that none of those individuals who were invited will taste of my supper.'"

²⁹ He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom's voice. So this joy of mine is now complete. ³⁰ He must increase, but I must decrease.

² For I am jealous over you with a godly jealousy. For I married you to one husband, that I might present you as a pure virgin to Christ.

²⁴ But as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives also be to their husbands in everything. ²⁵ Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself up for it; ²⁶ that he might sanctify it, having cleansed it by the washing of water with the word, ²⁷ that he might present the church to himself gloriously, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. ²⁸ Even so husbands also ought to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself. ²⁹ For no one ever hated his own flesh; but nourishes and cherishes it, even as Christ also does the church; ³⁰ because we are members of his body, of his flesh and of his bones. ³¹ "For this cause a man will leave his father and mother, and will be joined to his wife, and the two will become one flesh." ³² This mystery is great, but I speak concerning Christ and of the church.

⁷ Let us rejoice and be exceedingly glad, and let us give the glory to him. For the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his wife has made herself ready." ⁸ It was given to her that she would array herself in bright, pure, fine linen: for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. ⁹ He said to me, "Write, 'Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb.'" He said to me, "These are true words of God."

¹³ As soon as you have come into the city, you shall immediately find him, before he goes up to the high place to eat; for the people will not eat until he comes, because he blesses the sacrifice; afterward those who are invited eat. Now therefore go up; for at this time you shall find him."

¹¹ The Lord announced the word; a great company of women proclaim the good news.

¹⁰ I am the LORD, your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it. ¹¹ But my people did not listen to my voice. Israel desired none of me. ¹² So I let them go after the stubbornness of their hearts, that they might walk in their own counsels.

²⁴ Because I have called, and you have refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no one has paid attention; ²⁵ but you have ignored all my counsel, and wanted none of my reproof; ²⁶ I also will laugh at your disaster. I will mock when calamity overtakes you; ²⁷ when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when your disaster comes on like a whirlwind; when distress and anguish come on you. ²⁸ Then will they call on me, but I will not answer. They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me; ²⁹ because they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD. ³⁰ They wanted none of my counsel. They despised all my reproof. ³¹ Therefore they will eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own schemes. ³² For the backsliding of the simple will kill them. The careless ease of fools will destroy them.

¹ Wisdom has built her house. She has set up her seven pillars. ² She has prepared her meat. She has mixed her wine. She has also set her table. ³ She has sent out her maidens. She cries from the highest places of the city:

¹⁵ For thus said the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, "You will be saved in returning and rest. Your strength will be in quietness and in confidence." You refused,

¹ "Come, everyone who thirsts, to the waters. Come, he who has no money, buy, and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. ² Why do you spend money for that which is not bread? and your labor for that which doesn't satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat you that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.

¹⁶ Thus says the LORD, "Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, 'Where is the good way?' and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls." But they said, "We will not walk in it." ¹⁷ "I set watchmen over you, saying, 'Listen to the sound of the trumpet.'" But they said, "We will not listen."

⁴ The LORD has sent to you all his servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them (but you have not listened, nor inclined your ear to hear)

¹⁵ I have sent also to you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, 'Return now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and do not go after other gods to serve them, and you shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers': but you have not inclined your ear, nor listened to me.

² As I called them, the farther they went from me. They sacrificed to the Baals, and burned incense to engraved images.

⁷ My people are determined to turn from me. Though they call to the Most High, he certainly won't exalt them.

⁷ Be silent at the presence of the Lord GOD, for the day of the LORD is at hand. For the LORD has prepared a sacrifice. He has consecrated his guests.

² and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near."

⁶ Rather, go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. ⁷ And as you go, proclaim, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is near.'

³⁴ When the season for the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants, to receive his fruit.

³⁷ "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets, and stones those who are sent to her. How often I would have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not.

⁷ And he called to himself the twelve, and began to send them out two by two; and he gave them authority over the unclean spirits. ⁸ And he commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, except a staff only: no bread, no pack, no money in their belts, ⁹ but to wear sandals, and not to put on two tunics. ¹⁰ And he said to them, "Wherever you enter into a house, stay there until you depart from there. ¹¹ And if any place will not receive you or listen to you, as you depart from there, shake off the dust that is under your feet for a testimony against them."

¹ He called the twelve together, and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases. ² He sent them forth to proclaim the Kingdom of God, and to heal the sick. ³ And he said to them, "Take nothing for your journey—neither staff, nor pack, nor bread, nor money; neither have two coats. ⁴ Into whatever house you enter, stay there, and depart from there. ⁵ As many as do not receive you, when you depart from that city, shake off even the dust from your feet for a testimony against them." ⁶ They departed, and went throughout the villages, preaching the Good News, and healing everywhere.

³⁴ "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that kills the prophets, and stones those who are sent to her. How often I wanted to gather your children together, like a hen gathers her own brood under her wings, and you refused.

¹⁵ Now when one of those who were reclining with him heard these things, he said to him, "Blessed is he who will eat bread in the Kingdom of God." ¹⁶ But he said to him, "A certain man made a great supper, and he invited many people. ¹⁷ And he sent his servant at the hour for supper to tell those who were invited, 'Come, for everything is ready now.'

²⁸ But he was angry, and would not go in. Therefore his father came out, and pleaded with him.

²⁷ But bring those enemies of mine who did not want me to reign over them here, and kill them before me.'"

⁴⁰ But you are unwilling to come to me so that you may have life.

⁴⁵ But when the Jews saw the crowds, they were filled with jealousy, and contradicted the things which were spoken by Paul, and reviled him.

²¹ But as to Israel he says, "All day long I have stretched out my hands to a disobedient and obstinate people."

²⁵ See that you do not refuse him who speaks. For if they did not escape when they refused him who warned on the earth, how much more will we not escape who turn away from him who warns from heaven,

¹⁷ The Spirit and the bride say, "Come." He who hears, let him say, "Come." He who is thirsty, let him come. He who desires, let him take the water of life freely.

¹⁷ and refused to obey, neither were they mindful of your wonders that you did among them, but hardened their neck, and appointed a leader to return to their slavery in Egypt. But you are a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, and did not forsake them.

⁵ For you, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive; abundant in loving kindness to all those who call on you.

¹ I have come into my garden, my sister, my bride. I have gathered my myrrh with my spice; I have eaten my honeycomb with my honey; I have drunk my wine with my milk. Eat, friends. Drink, yes, drink abundantly, beloved.

³⁶ Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they treated them the same way.

¹ Now after these things, the Lord also appointed seventy-two others, and sent them two by two ahead of him into every city and place, where he was about to come. ² Then he said to them, "The harvest is indeed plentiful, but the laborers are few. Pray therefore to the Lord of the harvest, that he may send out laborers into his harvest. ³ Go your way. Look, I send you out as lambs among wolves. ⁴ Carry no money bag, nor pack, nor sandals; and greet no one on the way. ⁵ Into whatever house you enter, first say, 'Peace be to this house.' ⁶ If a peaceful person is there, your peace will rest on him; but if not, it will return to you. ⁷ Remain in that same house, eating and drinking the things they give, for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not go from house to house. ⁸ Into whatever city you enter, and they receive you, eat the things that are set before you. ⁹ Heal the sick who are in it, and tell them, 'The Kingdom of God has come near to you.' ¹⁰ But into whatever city you enter, and they do not receive you, go out into its streets and say, ¹¹ 'Even the dust from your city that clings to our feet, we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the Kingdom of God is near.' ¹² I tell you, it will be more tolerable in that day for Sodom than for that city. ¹³ "Woe to you, Chorazin. Woe to you, Bethsaida. For if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon which were done in you, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. ¹⁴ But it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgment than for you. ¹⁵ And you, Capernaum, will you be exalted to heaven? You will be brought down to hell. ¹⁶ Whoever listens to you listens to me, and whoever rejects you rejects me. Whoever rejects me rejects him who sent me."

¹⁷ And he sent his servant at the hour for supper to tell those who were invited, 'Come, for everything is ready now.'

⁴⁶ He said to them, "Thus it is written, for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, ⁴⁷ and that repentance leading to forgiveness of sins should be preached in his name to all the nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

⁵⁰ This is the bread which comes down out of heaven, that anyone may eat of it and not die. ⁵¹ I am the living bread which came down out of heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread which I will give for the life of the world is my flesh." ⁵² The Jews therefore argued with one another, saying, "How can this one give us flesh to eat?" ⁵³ Jesus therefore said to them, "Truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life in yourselves. ⁵⁴ He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has everlasting life, and I will raise him up at the last day. ⁵⁵ For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. ⁵⁶ He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me, and I in him. ⁵⁷ As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father; so he who feeds on me, he will also live because of me.

⁸ But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you. You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the farthest part of the earth."

¹⁹ They therefore who were scattered abroad by the oppression that arose about Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except to Jews only. ²⁰ But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who, when they had come to Antioch, spoke to the Greeks, proclaiming the good news of the Lord Jesus.

⁴⁶ Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly, and said, "It was necessary that God's word should be spoken to you first. Since indeed you thrust it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, look, we turn to the non-Jewish people.

¹⁷ It happened that after three days he called together those who were the Jewish leaders. When they had come together, he said to them, "I, brothers, though I had done nothing against the people, or the customs of our fathers, still was delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans, ¹⁸ who, when they had examined me, desired to set me free, because there was no cause of death in me. ¹⁹ But when the Jews spoke against it, I was forced to appeal to Caesar, not that I had anything about which to accuse my nation. ²⁰ For this cause therefore I asked to see you and to speak with you. For because of the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain." ²¹ They said to him, "We neither received letters from Judea concerning you, nor did any of the brothers come here and report or speak any evil of you. ²² But we desire to hear from you what you think. For, as concerning this sect, it is known to us that everywhere it is spoken against." ²³ When they had appointed him a day, many people came to him at his lodging. He explained to them, testifying about the Kingdom of God, and persuading them concerning Jesus, both from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets, from morning until evening. ²⁴ Some believed the things which were spoken, and some disbelieved. ²⁵ When they did not agree among themselves, they departed after Paul had spoken one word, "The Holy Spirit spoke rightly through Isaiah, the prophet, to your fathers, ²⁶ saying, 'Go to this people, and say, in hearing, you will hear, but will in no way understand. In seeing, you will see, but will in no way perceive. ²⁷ For this people's heart has grown callous. Their ears are dull of hearing. Their eyes they have closed. Lest they should see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their heart, and would turn again, and I would heal them.' ²⁸ "Be it known therefore to you, that the salvation of God is sent to the nations. They will also listen." ²⁹ And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, having a great dispute among themselves. ³⁰ And Paul stayed two whole years in his own rented house, and received all who were coming to him, ³¹ proclaiming the Kingdom of God, and teaching the things concerning the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness, without hindrance.

³² He who did not spare his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how would he not also with him freely give us all things?

⁷ Purge out the old yeast, that you may be a new lump, even as you are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed for us. ⁸ Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old yeast, neither with the yeast of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

¹⁴ Lot went out, and spoke to his sons-in-law, who were pledged to marry his daughters, and said, "Get up. Get out of this place, for God will destroy the city." But he seemed to his sons-in-law to be joking.

³⁴ Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils. He ate and drank, rose up, and went his way. So Esau despised his birthright.

²⁴ Yes, they despised the pleasant land. They did not believe his word, ²⁵ but murmured in their tents, and did not listen to the LORD's voice.

⁷ The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; but the foolish despise wisdom and instruction.

²⁴ Because I have called, and you have refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no one has paid attention; ²⁵ but you have ignored all my counsel, and wanted none of my reproof;

²² And what was sown among the thorns, this is he who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.

³⁸ For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the box-shaped vessel, ³⁹ and they did not know until the flood came, and took them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.

¹⁸ They all as one began to make excuses. "The first said to him, 'I have bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please have me excused.' ¹⁹ "Another said, 'I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I must go try them out. Please have me excused.' ²⁰ "Another said, 'I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.'

²⁶ As it happened in the days of Noah, even so will it be also in the days of the Son of Man. ²⁷ They ate, they drank, they married, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the box-shaped vessel, and the flood came, and destroyed them all. ²⁸ Likewise, even as it happened in the days of Lot: they ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; ²⁹ but in the day that Lot went out from Sodom, it rained fire and sulfur from the sky, and destroyed them all. ³⁰ It will be the same way in the day that the Son of Man is revealed. ³¹ In that day, he who will be on the housetop, and his goods in the house, let him not go down to take them away. Let him who is in the field likewise not turn back. ³² Remember Lot's wife.

¹³ Others, mocking, said, "They are filled with new wine."

²⁵ As he reasoned about righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix was terrified, and answered, "Go your way for this time, and when it is convenient for me, I will summon you."

⁴ Or do you despise the riches of his goodness, forbearance, and patience, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?

⁶ For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace;

⁹ But those who are determined to be rich fall into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful lusts, such as plunge people into ruin and destruction. ¹⁰ For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some have been led astray from the faith in their greed, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

⁴ traitors, headstrong, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God;

³ how will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation—which at the first having been spoken through the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard;

¹⁵ Do not love the world, neither the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the Father's love is not in him. ¹⁶ For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not the Father's, but is the world's.

¹⁰ Blessed are those who have been persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ¹¹ "Blessed are you when they insult you, persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake. ¹² Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven. For that is how they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

¹² And as you enter into the household, greet it. ¹³ And if the household is worthy, let your peace come on it, but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. ¹⁴ And whoever does not receive you, nor hear your words, as you leave that house or that city, shake off the dust from your feet. ¹⁵ Truly I tell you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city. ¹⁶ "Look, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be cunning as snakes and innocent as doves. ¹⁷ But beware of people: for they will deliver you up to councils, and in their synagogues they will scourge you. ¹⁸ Yes, and you will be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony to them and to the nations.

²² And you will be hated by all for my name's sake, but he who endures to the end will be saved. ²³ But when they persecute you in one city, flee to the other. And if they persecute you in the other, flee to the next. For truly I tell you, you will not have gone through the cities of Israel before the Son of Man comes. ²⁴ "A disciple is not above the teacher, nor a servant above his lord. ²⁵ It is enough for the disciple that he be like his teacher, and the servant like his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more those of his household.

³⁵ The tenants took his servants, beat one, killed another, and stoned another. ³⁶ Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they treated them the same way. ³⁷ But afterward he sent to them his son, saying, 'They will respect my son.' ³⁸ But the tenants, when they saw the son, said among themselves, 'This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, and have his inheritance.' ³⁹ So they took him, and threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him.

³⁴ Therefore, look, I send to you prophets, wise people, and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify; and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city; ³⁵ that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berechiah, whom you killed between the sanctuary and the altar. ³⁶ Truly I tell you, all these things will come upon this generation. ³⁷ "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets, and stones those who are sent to her. How often I would have gathered your children together, even as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you would not.

¹⁹ If you were of the world, the world would love its own. But because you are not of the world, since I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. ²⁰ Remember the word that I said to you: 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will keep yours also.

² They will put you out of the synagogues, but an hour is coming when whoever kills you will think that he is offering a service to God. ³ They will do these things because they have not known the Father or me.

¹ As they spoke to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came to them, ² being upset because they taught the people and proclaimed in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. ³ They laid hands on them, and put them in custody until the next day, for it was now evening.

⁴⁰ They agreed with him. Summoning the apostles, they beat them and commanded them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. ⁴¹ They therefore departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the Name.

⁵¹ "You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so you do. ⁵² Which of the prophets did not your fathers persecute? They killed those who foretold the coming of the Righteous One, of whom you have now become betrayers and murderers. ⁵³ You received the Law as it was ordained by angels, and did not keep it." ⁵⁴ Now when they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed at him with their teeth. ⁵⁵ But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, looked up steadfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God. ⁵⁶ And he said, "Look, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God." ⁵⁷ But they shouted out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and rushed at him with one accord.

¹ Saul was consenting to his death. A great persecution arose against the church which was in Jerusalem in that day. They were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except for the apostles.

¹⁴ For you, brothers, became imitators of the churches of God which are in Judea in Christ Jesus; for you also suffered the same things from your own countrymen, even as they did from the Judeans; ¹⁵ who killed both the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and drove us out, and did not please God, and are hostile to all people;

⁴⁹ The LORD will bring a nation against you from far away, from a distant land, as the eagle flies; a nation whose language you shall not understand; ⁵⁰ a nation of fierce facial expressions, that shall not respect the person of the old, nor show favor to the young, ⁵¹ and shall eat the fruit of your livestock, and the fruit of your ground, until you are destroyed; that also shall not leave you grain, new wine, or oil, the increase of your livestock, or the young of your flock, until they have caused you to perish. ⁵² They shall besiege you in all your gates, until your high and fortified walls come down, in which you trusted, throughout all your land; and they shall besiege you in all your gates throughout all your land, which the LORD your God has given you. ⁵³ You shall eat the fruit of your own body, the flesh of your sons and of your daughters, whom the LORD your God has given you, in the siege and in the distress with which your enemies shall distress you. ⁵⁴ The man who is tender among you, and very delicate, his eye shall be evil toward his brother, and toward the wife of his bosom, and toward the remnant of his children whom he has remaining; ⁵⁵ so that he will not give to any of them of the flesh of his children whom he shall eat, because he has nothing left him, in the siege and in the distress with which your enemy shall distress you in all your gates. ⁵⁶ The tender and delicate woman among you, who would not adventure to set the sole of her foot on the ground for delicateness and tenderness, her eye shall be evil toward the husband of her bosom, and toward her son, and toward her daughter, ⁵⁷ and toward her young one who comes out from between her feet, and toward her children whom she shall bear; for she shall eat them for want of all things secretly, in the siege and in the distress with which your enemy shall distress you in your gates. ⁵⁸ If you will not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and fearful name, The LORD your God; ⁵⁹ then the LORD will make your plagues extraordinary, and the plagues of your descendants, even great plagues, and of long continuance, and severe sicknesses, and of long continuance. ⁶⁰ He will bring on you again all the diseases of Egypt, which you were afraid of; and they shall cling to you. ⁶¹ Also every sickness, and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, the LORD will bring them on you, until you are destroyed. ⁶² You shall be left few in number, whereas you were as the stars of the sky for multitude; because you did not listen to the voice of the LORD your God. ⁶³ It shall happen that as the LORD rejoiced over you to do you good, and to multiply you, so the LORD will rejoice over you to cause you to perish, and to destroy you; and you shall be plucked from off the land where you go in to possess it. ⁶⁴ The LORD will scatter you among all peoples, from the one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth; and there you shall serve other gods, which you have not known, you nor your fathers, even wood and stone. ⁶⁵ Among these nations you shall find no ease, and there shall be no rest for the sole of your foot: but the LORD will give you there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and pining of soul; ⁶⁶ and your life shall hang in doubt before you; and you shall fear night and day, and shall have no assurance of your life. ⁶⁷ In the morning you shall say, "I wish it were evening." and at evening you shall say, "I wish it were morning." for the fear of your heart which you shall fear, and for the sight of your eyes which you shall see. ⁶⁸ The LORD will bring you into Egypt again with ships, by the way of which I said to you, You shall see it no more again: and there you shall sell yourselves to your enemies for bondservants and for bondmaids, and no man shall buy you.

⁵ Alas Assyrian, the rod of my anger, the staff in whose hand is my indignation. ⁶ I will send him against a profane nation, and against the people who anger me will I give him a command to take the spoil and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets. ⁷ However he doesn't mean so, neither does his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy, and to cut off not a few nations.

² Set up a banner on the bare mountain. Lift up your voice to them. Wave your hand, that they may go into the gates of the nobles. ³ I have commanded my consecrated ones; I have also called my mighty men to carry out my anger, my proudly exulting ones. ⁴ The noise of a multitude is in the mountains, as of a great people; the noise of an uproar of the kingdoms of the nations gathered together. The LORD of hosts is mustering the army for the battle. ⁵ They come from a far country, from the uttermost part of heaven, even the LORD, and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole land.

²⁰ "You are my battle axe and weapons of war: and with you will I break in pieces the nations; and with you will I destroy kingdoms; ²¹ and with you will I break in pieces the horse and his rider; and with you will I break in pieces the chariot and its rider. ²² And with you will I break in pieces man and woman; and with you will I break in pieces the old man and the youth; and with you will I break in pieces the young man and the virgin; ²³ and with you will I break in pieces the shepherd and his flock; and with you will I break in pieces the farmer and his yoke; and with you will I break in pieces governors and deputies.

²⁶ After the sixty-two weeks the Messiah shall be cut off, and shall have nothing. And the people of a ruler who shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and his end shall come with a flood, and until the end there shall be war; desolations are decreed.

¹¹ The LORD thunders his voice before his army; for his forces are very great; for he is strong who obeys his command; for the day of the LORD is great and very awesome, and who can endure it?

²⁵ I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the great locust, the grasshopper, and the caterpillar, my great army, which I sent among you.

² I will gather all nations, and will bring them down into the Valley of Jehoshaphat; and I will execute judgment on them there for my people, and for my heritage, Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations. They have divided my land,

¹ Look, a day of the LORD comes, when your spoil will be divided in your midst. ² For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city will be taken, the houses rifled, and the women ravished. Half of the city will go out into captivity, and the rest of the people will not be cut off from the city.

⁴⁰ When therefore the lord of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?" ⁴¹ They told him, "He will utterly destroy those evil men, and will lease out the vineyard to other tenants, who will give him the fruit in its season."

⁴² saying, "If you, even you, had known today the things that make for peace. But now, they are hidden from your eyes. ⁴³ For the days will come on you, when your enemies will throw up a barricade against you, surround you, hem you in on every side, ⁴⁴ and will dash you and your children within you to the ground. They will not leave in you one stone on another, because you did not know the time of your visitation."

²¹ Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let those who are in the midst of her depart. Let those who are in the country not enter it.

²⁴ And they will fall by the edge of the sword and be led captive into all the nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled down by non-Jewish people until the times are fulfilled. And there will be times of the non-Jewish people.

¹⁶ forbidding us to speak to those who are not Jewish that they may be saved; to fill up their sins always. But wrath has come on them to the uttermost.

¹⁷ For the time has come for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins first with us, what will happen to those who do not obey the Good News of God? ¹⁸ And "If the righteous is delivered with difficulty, where will the ungodly and the sinner appear?"

¹¹ And into whatever city or village you enter, find out who in it is worthy; and stay there until you go on. ¹² And as you enter into the household, greet it. ¹³ And if the household is worthy, let your peace come on it, but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you.

³⁷ Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. ³⁸ And whoever does not take his cross and follow after me, is not worthy of me.

³⁵ But those who are regarded as worthy of a place in that age and the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given to someone to marry.

³⁶ Therefore be watchful all the time, praying that you may be able to escape all these things that will happen, and to stand before the Son of Man."

⁵ This is an obvious sign of the righteous judgment of God, to the end that you may be counted worthy of the Kingdom of God, for which you also suffer.

⁴ Nevertheless you have a few names in Sardis that did not defile their garments. They will walk with me in white, for they are worthy.

¹⁴ Blessed are they who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter in by the gates into the city.

²⁰ Wisdom calls aloud in the street. She utters her voice in the public squares. ²¹ She calls at the head of noisy places. At the entrance of the city gates, she utters her words: ²² "How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? How long will mockers delight themselves in mockery, and fools hate knowledge? ²³ Turn at my reproof. Look, I will pour out my spirit on you. I will make known my words to you.

¹ Doesn't wisdom cry out? Doesn't understanding raise her voice? ² On the top of high places by the way, where the paths meet, she stands. ³ Beside the gates, at the entry of the city, at the entry doors, she cries aloud: ⁴ "To you men, I call. I send my voice to the sons of humankind. ⁵ You simple, understand prudence. You fools, be of an understanding heart.

⁴ "Whoever is simple, let him turn in here." As for him who is void of understanding, she says to him, ⁵ "Come, eat some of my bread, Drink some of the wine which I have mixed. ⁶ Leave your simple ways, and live. Walk in the way of understanding."

¹ "Come, everyone who thirsts, to the waters. Come, he who has no money, buy, and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. ² Why do you spend money for that which is not bread? and your labor for that which doesn't satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat you that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. ³ Turn your ear, and come to me; hear, and your soul shall live: and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, the faithful kindnesses of David.

⁶ Seek the LORD while he may be found; call you on him while he is near: ⁷ let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return to the LORD, and he will have mercy on him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

²¹ For the king of Babylon stood at the parting of the way, at the head of the two ways, to use divination: he shook the arrows back and forth, he consulted the teraphim, he looked in the liver.

¹⁵ And he said to them, "Go into all the world, and proclaim the Good News to the whole creation. ¹⁶ He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who disbelieves will be condemned.

⁴⁷ and that repentance leading to forgiveness of sins should be preached in his name to all the nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

⁴⁷ For so has the Lord commanded us, saying, 'I have set you as a light to the nations, that you may bring salvation to the farthest part of the earth.'"

⁸ To me, the very least of all saints, was this grace given, to proclaim to the non-Jews the unsearchable riches of Christ,

³⁸ and the field is the world; and the good seed, these are the children of the Kingdom; and the tares are the children of the evil one,

⁴⁷ "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet, that was cast into the sea, and gathered some fish of every kind, ⁴⁸ which, when it was filled, they drew up on the beach. They sat down, and gathered the good into containers, but the bad they threw away.

¹¹ But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man who did not have on wedding clothing, ¹² and he said to him, 'Friend, how did you come in here not wearing wedding clothing?' He was speechless.

¹ "Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins, who took their lamps, and went out to meet the bridegroom. ² Five of them were foolish, and five were wise.

¹⁰ While they went away to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut.

⁹ Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor men who have sexual relations with men, ¹⁰ nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor slanderers, nor swindlers, will inherit the Kingdom of God. ¹¹ Such were some of you, but you were washed. But you were sanctified. But you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and in the Spirit of our God.

²¹ that again when I come my God would humble me before you, and I would mourn for many of those who have sinned before now, and not repented of the uncleanness and sexual immorality and lustfulness which they committed.

¹⁹ They went out from us, but they did not belong to us; for if they had belonged to us, they would have continued with us. But they left, that they might be revealed that none of them belong to us.

¹⁴ But I have a few things against you, because you have there some who hold the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to throw a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality. ¹⁵ So you also have some who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans likewise.

²⁰ But I have this against you, that you tolerate the woman, Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess. She teaches and seduces my servants to commit sexual immorality, and to eat things sacrificed to idols. ²¹ I gave her time to repent, but she refuses to repent of her sexual immorality. ²² Look, I will throw her into a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her into great oppression, unless they repent of her works. ²³ I will kill her children with Death, and all the churches will know that I am he who searches the minds and hearts. I will give to each one of you according to your deeds.

⁹ They sang a new song, saying, "You are worthy to take the scroll, and to open its seals: for you were killed, and redeemed for God with your blood those from every tribe, language, people, and nation,

⁹ After these things I looked, and suddenly there was a great multitude, which no one could number, out of every nation and of all tribes, peoples, and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, dressed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands.

⁶ I heard something like the voice of a great multitude, and like the voice of many waters, and like the voice of mighty thunders, saying, "Hallelujah. For the Lord our God of hosts reigns.

²² He said to him who was over the vestry, "Bring out robes for all the worshippers of Baal." He brought robes out to them.

¹³ The princess inside is all glorious. Her clothing is interwoven with gold. ¹⁴ She shall be led to the king in embroidered work. The virgins, her companions who follow her, shall be brought to you.

¹ Awake, awake, put on your strength, Zion; put on your beautiful garments, Jerusalem, the holy city, for there shall no more enter into you the uncircumcised and the unclean.

³ to appoint to those who mourn in Zion, to give to them a garland for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he may be glorified. ⁴ They shall build the old wastes, they shall raise up the former desolations, and they shall repair the waste cities, the desolations of many generations. ⁵ Strangers shall stand and feed your flocks, and foreigners shall be your plowmen and your vinedressers. ⁶ But you shall be named the priests of the LORD; men will call you the ministers of our God: you will eat the wealth of the nations, and you will boast in their glory. ⁷ Instead of your shame you shall have double; and instead of dishonor they shall rejoice in their portion: therefore in their land they shall possess double; everlasting joy shall be to them. ⁸ "For I, the LORD, love justice, and I hate robbery with iniquity; and I will give them their recompense in truth, and I will make an everlasting covenant with them. ⁹ Their offspring shall be known among the nations, and their descendants among the peoples; all who see them shall acknowledge them, that they are the offspring which the LORD has blessed." ¹⁰ I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation, he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

⁶ For we have all become as one who is unclean, and all our righteousness is as a polluted garment: and we all fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.

²² unless you have completely rejected us and are angry with us beyond measure.

¹² It will happen at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and I will punish the men who are settled on their dregs, who say in their heart, "The LORD will not do good, neither will he do evil."

³ Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and was standing before the angel. ⁴ He answered and spoke to those who stood before him, saying, "Take the filthy garments off of him." To him he said, "Look, I have caused your iniquity to pass from you, and I will clothe you with rich clothing."

¹² His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor. He will gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire."

³⁰ Let both grow together until the harvest, and in the harvest time I will tell the reapers, "First, gather up the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them; but gather the wheat into my barn."'"

³¹ "But when the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. ³² Before him all the nations will be gathered, and he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.

²² even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. For there is no distinction,

¹⁴ But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, for its lusts.

⁵ Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each one will get his praise from God.

³ since, after we have put it on, we will not be found naked.

²⁷ For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

²⁴ and put on the new self, who in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of truth.

¹⁰ and have put on the new self, who is being renewed in knowledge after the image of his Creator, ¹¹ where there cannot be Greek and Jew, circumcision and uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, slave, freeman; but Christ is all, and in all.

¹² For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and is able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart. ¹³ There is no creature that is hidden from his sight, but all things are naked and laid open before the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

²³ I will kill her children with Death, and all the churches will know that I am he who searches the minds and hearts. I will give to each one of you according to your deeds.

⁴ Nevertheless you have a few names in Sardis that did not defile their garments. They will walk with me in white, for they are worthy. ⁵ He who overcomes will be arrayed in white garments, and I will in no way blot his name out of the Book of Life, and I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

¹⁸ I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, that you may become rich; and white garments, that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and eye salve to put on your eyes, that you may see.

¹⁵ "Look, I am coming like a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his clothes, so that he does not walk naked, and they see his shame."

⁸ It was given to her that she would array herself in bright, pure, fine linen: for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.

⁹ He will guard the feet of his faithful ones, but the wicked will be put to silence in darkness. For no man will prevail by strength.

¹⁶ So the poor has hope, and injustice shuts her mouth.

⁴² The upright will see it, and be glad. All the wicked will shut their mouths.

²³ "How can you say, 'I am not defiled. I have not gone after the Baals'? See your way in the valley. Know what you have done. You are a swift dromedary traversing her ways;

²⁶ As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they, their kings, their officials, and their priests, and their prophets;

²⁰ For I tell you that unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, there is no way you will enter into the kingdom of heaven.

¹³ "But he answered one of them, 'Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius?

⁵⁰ Jesus said to him, "Friend, why are you here?" Then they came and laid hands on Jesus, and took him.

² and kept back part of the price, his wife also being aware of it, and brought a certain part, and put it at the apostles' feet. ³ But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back part of the price of the land? ⁴ While you kept it, did not it remain your own? After it was sold, was not it in your power? How is it that you have conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to people, but to God." ⁵ Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and died. Great fear came on all who heard it. ⁶ The young men arose and wrapped him up, and they carried him out and buried him. ⁷ About three hours later, his wife, not knowing what had happened, came in. ⁸ Peter answered her, "Tell me whether you sold the land for so much." She said, "Yes, for so much." ⁹ But Peter asked her, "How is it that you have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out." ¹⁰ She fell down immediately at his feet, and died. The young men came in and found her dead, and they carried her out and buried her by her husband. ¹¹ Great fear came on the whole church, and on all who heard these things.

²⁰ But Peter said to him, "May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money. ²¹ You have neither part nor lot in this matter, for your heart is not right before God. ²² Repent therefore of this, your wickedness, and ask the Lord if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you. ²³ For I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and in the bondage of iniquity."

¹⁹ Now we know that whatever things the law says, it speaks to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be closed, and all the world may be brought under the judgment of God.

¹¹ knowing that such a one is perverted, and sins, being self-condemned.

¹² The wicked plots against the just, and gnashes at him with his teeth.

¹⁰ The wicked will see it, and be grieved. He shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away. The desire of the wicked will perish.

²⁰ He commanded certain mighty men who were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace.

¹² but the children of the Kingdom will be thrown out into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and grinding of teeth."

²⁹ Or how can one enter into the house of the strong man, and carry off his possessions, unless he first bind the strong man? And then he will plunder his house.

⁴² and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be weeping and the grinding of teeth.

⁵⁰ and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be the weeping and the grinding of teeth."

⁵¹ and will cut him in pieces, and appoint his portion with the hypocrites. There is where the weeping and grinding of teeth will be.

³⁰ Throw out the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.'

²⁸ There will be weeping and grinding of teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the prophets, in the Kingdom of God, and yourselves being thrown outside.

¹⁸ Truly I tell you, when you were young, you dressed yourself, and walked where you wanted to. But when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you, and carry you where you do not want to go."

⁵⁴ Now when they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed at him with their teeth.

¹¹ Coming to us, and taking Paul's belt, he bound his own feet and hands, and said, "Thus says the Holy Spirit: 'So will the Jews in Jerusalem bind the man who owns this belt, and will deliver him into the hands of non-Jewish people.'"

⁹ who will pay the penalty: everlasting destruction from the face of the Lord and from the glory of his might,

⁴ For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them down to the lower parts of hell, and committed them to chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment;

¹⁷ These are wells without water, and mists driven by a storm; for whom the blackness of darkness has been reserved.

⁶ Angels who did not keep their first domain, but deserted their own dwelling place, he has kept in everlasting bonds under darkness for the judgment of the great day.

¹³ wild waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, for whom the blackness of darkness has been reserved forever.

²⁷ There will in no way enter into it anything profane, or one who causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb's Book of Life.

¹³ "Enter in by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many are those who enter in by it. ¹⁴ How narrow is the gate, and difficult is the way that leads to life. Few are those who find it.

¹⁶ So the last will be first, and the first last; for many are called, but few are chosen."

²² Unless those days had been shortened, no flesh would have been saved. But for the sake of the chosen ones, those days will be shortened.

²³ One said to him, "Lord, are they few who are saved?" He said to them, ²⁴ "Strive to enter in by the narrow door, for many, I tell you, will seek to enter in, and will not be able.

¹⁰ Therefore, brothers, be more diligent to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never stumble.

¹⁴ These will war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings. They also will overcome who are with him, called and chosen and faithful."

² The kings of the earth take a stand, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his Anointed:

⁶ If he comes to see me, he speaks falsehood. His heart gathers iniquity to itself. When he goes abroad, he tells it.

⁵ All day long they twist my words. All their thoughts are against me for evil. ⁶ They conspire and lurk, watching my steps, they are eager to take my life. ⁷ Shall they escape by iniquity? In anger cast down the peoples, God.

⁶ They have prepared a net for my steps. My soul is bowed down. They dig a pit before me. They fall into its midst themselves. Selah.

³ For, look, they lie in wait for my soul. The mighty gather themselves together against me, not for my disobedience, nor for my sin, LORD.

²¹ who cause a person to be indicted by a word, and lay a snare for the arbiter in the gate, and who deprive the innocent of justice with false testimony.

¹⁸ Then they said, "Come, and let us make plans against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us strike him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words."

¹⁰ For I have heard the defaming of many, terror on every side. "Denounce, and we will denounce him," say all my familiar friends, those who watch for my fall; "perhaps he will be persuaded, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him."

¹³ They sent some of the Pharisees and of the Herodians to him, that they might trap him with words. ¹⁴ When they had come, they asked him, "Teacher, we know that you are honest, and do not defer to anyone; for you are not partial to anyone, but truly teach the way of God. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not? ¹⁵ Should we pay, or should we not pay?" But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said to them, "Why do you test me? Bring me a denarius, that I may see it." ¹⁶ They brought it. He said to them, "Whose is this image and inscription?" They said to him, "Caesar's." ¹⁷ And Jesus said to them, "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." And they were utterly amazed at him.

⁵³ And when he left there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to oppose him bitterly, and to provoke him to speak about many things; ⁵⁴ lying in wait for him, seeking to catch him in something he might say, that they might accuse him.

²⁰ They watched him, and sent out spies, who pretended to be righteous, that they might trap him in something he said, so as to deliver him up to the power and authority of the governor. ²¹ They asked him, "Teacher, we know that you say and teach what is right, and are not partial to anyone, but truly teach the way of God. ²² Is it lawful for us to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?" ²³ But he perceived their craftiness, and said to them, ²⁴ "Show me a denarius. Whose image and inscription are on it?" They answered, "Caesar's." ²⁵ He said to them, "Then give to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." ²⁶ They weren't able to trap him in his words before the people. And amazed at his answer, they fell silent.

³ For consider him who has endured such hostility from sinners against himself, so that you may not become tired and give up.

⁹ who said of his father, and of his mother, 'I have not seen him;' Neither did he acknowledge his brothers, Nor did he know his own children: For they have observed your word, and keep your covenant.

¹⁴ Micaiah said, "As the LORD lives, what the LORD says to me, that I will speak."

²¹ Please do not let me respect any man's person, neither will I give flattering titles to any man. ²² For I do not know how to give flattering titles; or else my Maker would soon take me away.

⁹ For there is nothing reliable in their mouth. Their heart is destruction. Their throat is an open tomb; with their tongues they flatter.

² Everyone lies to his neighbor. They speak with flattering lips, and with a double heart.

²¹ His mouth was smooth as butter, but his heart was war. His words were softer than oil, yet they were drawn swords.

⁵ A man who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet.

¹³ transgressing and denying the LORD, and turning away from following our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood. ¹⁴ Justice is turned away backward, and righteousness stands afar off; for truth is fallen in the street, and uprightness can't enter. ¹⁵ Yes, truth is lacking; and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey. The LORD saw it, and it displeased him that there was no justice.

³ "They bend their tongue as a bow. Falsehood and not truth has grown strong in the land; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they do not know me," says the LORD. ⁴ "Everyone be on guard against his neighbor, and do not trust any brother; for every brother is a deceiver, and every neighbor will go about with slanders. ⁵ Everyone deceives his neighbor, and does not speak the truth. They have taught their tongue to speak lies; they do evil, they do not cease so as to return.

³⁰ "As for you, son of man, the children of your people talk of you by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, everyone to his brother, saying, 'Please come and hear what is the word that comes forth from the LORD.' ³¹ They come to you as the people come, and they sit before you as my people, and they hear your words, but do not do them; for with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goes after their gain.

⁹ Please listen to this, you heads of the house of Jacob, and rulers of the house of Israel, who abhor justice, and pervert all equity. ¹⁰ They build up Zion with blood, and Jerusalem with iniquity. ¹¹ Her leaders judge for bribes, and her priests teach for a price, and her prophets of it tell fortunes for money: yet they lean on the LORD, and say, "Isn't the LORD in the midst of us? No disaster will come on us." ¹² Therefore Zion for your sake will be plowed like a field, and Jerusalem will become heaps of rubble, and the mountain of the temple like the high places of a forest.

⁶ The law of truth was in his mouth, and unrighteousness was not found in his lips. He walked with me in peace and uprightness, and turned many away from iniquity.

⁹ "Therefore I have also made you contemptible and base before all the people, according to the way you have not kept my ways, but have had respect for persons in the law.

¹¹ Why is it that you do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread? But beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees." ¹² Then they understood that he did not tell them to beware of the yeast of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

²⁴ saying, "Teacher, Moses said, 'If a man dies, having no children, his brother is to marry his wife, and raise up offspring for his brother.'

²⁶ In like manner the second also, and the third, to the seventh.

¹⁸ He said, "Go into the city to a certain person, and tell him, 'The Teacher says, "My time is near. I will keep the Passover at your house with my disciples."'"

⁴⁹ Immediately he came to Jesus, and said, "Greetings, Rabbi." and kissed him.

⁶ And the Pharisees went out, and immediately conspired with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him.

¹⁵ He warned them, saying, "Watch out; guard yourselves against the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod."

¹⁷ As he was going out into the way, one ran to him, knelt before him, and asked him, "Good Teacher, what must I do that I may inherit everlasting life?"

¹⁴ When they had come, they asked him, "Teacher, we know that you are honest, and do not defer to anyone; for you are not partial to anyone, but truly teach the way of God. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?

⁴⁰ Jesus answered him, "Simon, I have something to tell you." He said, "Teacher, say on."

²¹ They asked him, "Teacher, we know that you say and teach what is right, and are not partial to anyone, but truly teach the way of God.

¹⁸ He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory, but he who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.

⁶ Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

³⁷ Pilate therefore said to him, "Are you a king then?" Jesus answered, "You say that I am a king. For this reason I have been born, and for this reason I have come into the world, that I should testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice."

¹⁷ For we are not, like so many, peddling the word of God. But as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God, we speak in Christ.

² But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by the manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.

¹⁶ Therefore we know no one after the flesh from now on. Even though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now we no longer know him in this way.

¹⁰ For am I now seeking the favor of people, or of God? Or am I striving to please people? For if I were still pleasing people, I would not be a servant of Christ.

⁶ But from those who were reputed to be important (whatever they were, it makes no difference to me; God shows no favoritism between people)—they, I say, who were respected imparted nothing to me,

⁴ But even as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the Good News, so we speak; not as pleasing people, but God, who tests our hearts.

¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceful, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, without hypocrisy.

²⁰ We know that the Son of God has come, and has given us an understanding, that we know him who is true, and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

¹⁴ When you have come to the land which the LORD your God gives you, and shall possess it, and shall dwell in it, and shall say, "I will set a king over me, like all the nations that are around me"; ¹⁵ you shall surely set him king over yourselves, whom the LORD your God shall choose: one from among your brothers you shall set king over you; you may not put a foreigner over you, who is not your brother.

¹³ Be it known now to the king that if this city is built, and the walls finished, they will not pay tribute, custom, or toll, and in the end it will be hurtful to the kings.

²⁴ Also we inform you, that touching any of the priests and Levites, the singers, doorkeepers, Nethinim, or servants of this house of God, it shall not be lawful to impose tribute, custom, or toll, on them.

⁴ There were also some who said, "We have borrowed money for the king's tribute using our fields and our vineyards as collateral.

³⁷ It yields much increase to the kings whom you have set over us because of our sins: also they have power over our bodies, and over our livestock, at their pleasure, and we are in great distress.

² and said to Jeremiah the prophet, "Please let our petition be presented before you, and pray for us to the LORD your God, even for all this remnant; for we are left but a few of many, as your eyes do see us: ³ that the LORD your God may show us the way in which we should walk, and the thing that we should do."

²⁰ For you have dealt deceitfully against your own souls; for you sent me to the LORD your God, saying, 'Pray for us to the LORD our God; and according to all that the LORD our God shall say, so declare to us, and we will do it':

²⁵ He said, "Yes." When he came into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, "What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth receive toll or tribute? From their children, or from strangers?"

¹ Now it happened in those days, that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be enrolled.

¹ Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene,

¹² At this, Pilate was seeking to release him, but the Jewish leaders shouted, saying, "If you release this man, you are not Caesar's friend. Everyone who makes himself a king speaks against Caesar." ¹³ When Pilate therefore heard these words, he brought Jesus out, and sat down on the judgment seat at a place called "The Pavement," but in Hebrew, "Gabbatha." ¹⁴ Now it was the Preparation Day of the Passover, at about noon. He said to the Jewish leaders, "Look, here is your King." ¹⁵ They shouted, "Away with him. Away with him. Crucify him." Pilate said to them, "Should I crucify your King?" The chief priests answered, "We have no king but Caesar."

³⁷ After this man, Judas of Galilee rose up in the days of the enrollment, and drew away some people after him. He also perished, and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered abroad.

⁷ whom Jason has received. These all act contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Jesus."

⁸ while he said in his defense, "Neither against the law of the Jews, nor against the temple, nor against Caesar, have I sinned at all."

²² But we desire to hear from you what you think. For, as concerning this sect, it is known to us that everywhere it is spoken against."

⁶ For this reason you also pay taxes, for they are servants of God's service, attending continually on this very thing. ⁷ Give therefore to everyone what you owe: taxes to whom taxes are due; customs to whom customs; respect to whom respect; honor to whom honor.

¹ The Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing him, asked him to show them a sign from heaven. ² But he answered and said to them, "When it is evening, you say, 'It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.' ³ In the morning, 'It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.' You know how to discern the appearance of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times. ⁴ An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and there will be no sign given to it, except the sign of Jonah." He left them, and departed.

³ And Pharisees came to him, testing him, and saying to him, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce a wife for any reason?"

⁸ And immediately Jesus, perceiving in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, said to them, "Why do you reason these things in your hearts?

⁵ And he sent another; and they killed him; and many others, beating some, and killing some.

²² But Jesus, perceiving their thoughts, answered them, "Why are you reasoning so in your hearts?

⁴⁷ Jesus, knowing the reasoning of their hearts, took a little child, and set him by his side,

²⁵ And look, a certain Law scholar stood up and tested him, saying, "Teacher, what must I do to inherit everlasting life?"

²³ But he perceived their craftiness, and said to them,

²⁵ and because he did not need anyone to testify concerning man; for he himself knew what was in man.

⁶ Now they said this to test him, that they might have something to accuse him of. But Jesus stooped down, and wrote on the ground with his finger.

⁹ But Peter asked her, "How is it that you have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out."

²⁸ "But that servant went out, and found one of his fellow servants, who owed him one hundred denarii, and he grabbed him, and took him by the throat, saying, 'Pay what you owe.'

² When he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard.

⁶ I heard something like a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, "A choenix of wheat for a denarius, and three choenixes of barley for a denarius. Do not damage the oil and the wine."

²⁴ "Show me a denarius. Whose image and inscription are on it?" They answered, "Caesar's."

²¹ My son, fear the LORD and the king. Do not join those who are rebellious:

¹⁶ Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered the king, "Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. ¹⁷ If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace; and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. ¹⁸ But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods, nor worship the golden image which you have set up."

¹⁰ When Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house (now his windows were open in his chamber toward Jerusalem) and he kneeled on his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did before. ¹¹ Then these men assembled together, and found Daniel making petition and petition before his God.

²⁰ When he came near to the den to Daniel, he cried with a lamentable voice. The king spoke and said to Daniel, "Daniel, servant of the living God. Is your God, whom you serve continually, able to deliver you from the lions?" ²¹ Then said Daniel to the king, "O king, live forever. ²² My God has sent his angel, and has shut the lions' mouths, and they have not hurt me; because before him innocence was found in me; and also before you, O king, have I done no wrong." ²³ Then was the king exceedingly glad, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.

⁶ "A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If I am a father, then where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is the respect due me? says the LORD of hosts to you, priests, who despise my name. You say, 'How have we despised your name?' ⁷ You offer defiled bread on my altar. You say, 'How have we defiled you?' In that you say, 'The LORD's table is despised, and its fruit, its food, is despised.' ⁸ When you offer the blind for sacrifice, isn't that evil? And when you offer the lame and sick, isn't that evil? Present it now to your governor. Will he be pleased with you? Or will he accept your person?" says the LORD of hosts.

⁸ Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. But you say, 'How have we robbed you?' In tithes and offerings. ⁹ You are cursed with the curse; for you rob me, even this whole nation. ¹⁰ Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house, and test me now in this," says the LORD of hosts, "if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough for.

¹⁰ Then Jesus said to him, "Go away, Satan. For it is written, 'You are to worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'"

²⁵ He said, "Yes." When he came into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, "What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth receive toll or tribute? From their children, or from strangers?" ²⁶ And when he said, "From strangers." Jesus said to him, "Therefore the children are exempt. ²⁷ But, lest we cause them to stumble, go to the sea, cast a hook, and take up the first fish that comes up. When you have opened its mouth, you will find a stater coin. Take that, and give it to them for me and you."

³⁷ He said to him, "'You are to love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.'

² They began to accuse him, saying, "We found this man subverting our nation, forbidding paying taxes to Caesar, and saying that he himself is the Christ, a king."

¹⁹ But Peter and John answered them, "Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, judge for yourselves,

²⁹ But Peter and the apostles answered, "We must obey God rather than people.

⁷ Give therefore to everyone what you owe: taxes to whom taxes are due; customs to whom customs; respect to whom respect; honor to whom honor.

¹³ Subject yourselves to every human institution for the Lord's sake: whether to the king, as supreme; ¹⁴ or to governors, as sent by him for vengeance on evildoers and for praise to those who do well. ¹⁵ For this is the will of God, that by well-doing you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people: ¹⁶ as free, and not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but as slaves of God. ¹⁷ Honor all people. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king.

⁴ Do not answer a fool according to his folly, lest you also be like him. ⁵ Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes.

¹⁶ "Look, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be cunning as snakes and innocent as doves.

³³ When the crowds heard it, they were astonished at his teaching.

⁴⁶ No one was able to answer him a word, neither did anyone dare ask him any more questions from that day forth.

¹² They tried to seize him, but they feared the crowd; for they perceived that he spoke the parable against them. They left him, and went away.

¹⁵ for I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries will not be able to withstand or to contradict.

¹⁰ They weren't able to withstand the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spoke.

⁶ Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.

⁷ But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for his baptism he said to them, "You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

⁶ Jesus said to them, "Watch out and guard yourselves against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees."

¹⁸ There came to him Sadducees, who say that there is no resurrection. They asked him, saying, ¹⁹ "Teacher, Moses wrote to us, 'If a man's brother dies, and leaves a wife behind him, and leaves no children, that his brother should take the wife, and raise up offspring for his brother.' ²⁰ There were seven brothers. The first took a wife, and dying left no offspring. ²¹ The second took her, and died, leaving no children behind him. The third likewise; ²² and the seven left no children. Last of all the woman also died. ²³ In the resurrection, when they rise, whose wife will she be of them? For the seven had her as a wife." ²⁴ Jesus said to them, "Is not this because you are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God? ²⁵ For when they will rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. ²⁶ But about the dead, that they are raised; have you not read in the book of Moses, about the bush, how God spoke to him, saying, 'I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob'? ²⁷ He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are therefore badly mistaken."

²⁷ Some of the Sadducees came to him, those who deny that there is a resurrection. ²⁸ They asked him, "Teacher, Moses wrote to us that if a man's brother dies having a wife, and he is childless, his brother should take the wife, and raise up children for his brother. ²⁹ There were therefore seven brothers. The first took a wife, and died childless. ³⁰ The second and ³¹ the third took her, and likewise the seven all left no children, and died. ³² Afterward the woman also died. ³³ Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them will she be? For the seven had her as a wife." ³⁴ Jesus said to them, "The people of this age marry and are given to someone to marry. ³⁵ But those who are regarded as worthy of a place in that age and the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given to someone to marry. ³⁶ For they cannot die any more, for they are like the angels, and are children of God, being children of the resurrection. ³⁷ But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed at the bush, when he called the Lord 'The God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.' ³⁸ Now he is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for all are alive to him." ³⁹ Some of the scribes answered, "Teacher, you speak well." ⁴⁰ They did not dare to ask him any more questions.

¹ As they spoke to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came to them,

¹⁷ But the high priest rose up, and all those who were with him (which is the sect of the Sadducees), and they were filled with jealousy,

⁶ But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees and the other Pharisees, he shouted in the council, "Men and brothers, I am a Pharisee, a son of Pharisees. Concerning the hope and resurrection of the dead I am being judged." ⁷ When he had said this, an argument arose between the Pharisees and Sadducees, and the assembly was divided. ⁸ For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, nor angel, nor spirit; but the Pharisees confess all of these.

¹² Now if Christ is preached, that he has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? ¹³ But if there is no resurrection of the dead, neither has Christ been raised. ¹⁴ If Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain, and your faith also is in vain.

¹⁸ who have erred concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past, and overthrowing the faith of some.

⁸ Then Judah said to Onan, "Sleep with your brotherʼs wife and fulfill the duty of a brother-in-law to her, and raise up offspring for your brother."

¹¹ Then Judah said to his daughter-in-law Tamar, "Remain a widow in your fatherʼs house until my son Shelah is grown up." For he thought, "I do not want him to die too, like his brothers." So Tamar went and lived in her fatherʼs house.

⁵ If brothers dwell together, and one of them die, and have no son, the wife of the dead shall not be married outside to a stranger: her husband's brother shall go in to her, and take her to him as wife, and perform the duty of a husband's brother to her. ⁶ It shall be, that the firstborn whom she bears shall succeed in the name of his brother who is dead, that his name not be blotted out of Israel. ⁷ If the man doesn't want to take his brother's wife, then his brother's wife shall go up to the gate to the elders, and say, "My husband's brother refuses to raise up to his brother a name in Israel; he will not perform the duty of a husband's brother to me." ⁸ Then the elders of his city shall call him, and speak to him: and if he stand, and say, "I do not want to take her"; ⁹ then his brother's wife shall come to him in the presence of the elders, and loose his shoe from off his foot, and spit in his face; and she shall answer and say, "So shall it be done to the man who does not build up his brother's house." ¹⁰ His name shall be called in Israel, The house of him who has his shoe untied.

¹¹ Naomi said, "Go back, my daughters. Why do you want to go with me? Do I still have sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands?

²¹ Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

¹⁶ They sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that you are honest, and teach the way of God in truth, no matter whom you teach, for you are not partial to anyone.

³⁶ "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?"

¹⁹ "Teacher, Moses wrote to us, 'If a man's brother dies, and leaves a wife behind him, and leaves no children, that his brother should take the wife, and raise up offspring for his brother.'

⁴⁶ "Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do the things which I say?

²⁷ Inasmuch as it is appointed for people to die once, and after this, judgment,

¹⁴ Is anything too difficult for God? At the set time I will return to you, at the time of life, and Sarah will have a son."

²⁵ But as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives. In the end, he will stand upon the earth. ²⁶ After my skin is destroyed, then in my flesh shall I see God, ²⁷ Whom I, even I, shall see on my side. My eyes shall see, and not as a stranger. My heart is consumed within me.

⁹ Therefore my heart is glad, and my tongue rejoices. My body shall also dwell in safety. ¹⁰ For you will not abandon my soul in Sheol, neither will you allow your Holy One to see decay. ¹¹ You make known to me the path of life. In your presence is fullness of joy. In your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.

¹⁵ As for me, I shall see your face in righteousness. I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with seeing your form.

¹⁴ They are appointed as a flock for Sheol. Death shall be their shepherd. The upright shall have dominion over them in the morning. Their beauty shall decay in Sheol, far from their mansion. ¹⁵ But God will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol, for he will receive me. Selah.

²⁵ Who do I have in heaven? There is no one on earth who I desire besides you. ²⁶ My flesh and my heart fails, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

⁸ He has swallowed up death in victory. The Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces. He will take the reproach of his people away from off all the earth, for the LORD has spoken it.

¹⁹ Your dead shall live; my dead bodies shall rise. Awake and shout for joy, you who dwell in the dust; for your dew is like the dew of the dawn, and the earth shall bring forth the departed spirits.

¹ The righteous perishes, and no man lays it to heart; and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil. ² He enters into peace; they rest in their beds, each one who walks in his uprightness.

¹⁷ 'Ah, Lord GOD. Look, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm; there is nothing too difficult for you,

² Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. ³ And those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who turn many to righteousness like the stars forever and ever.

¹⁴ I will ransom them from the power of Sheol. I will redeem them from death. Death, where is your victory? Sheol, where is your sting? "Compassion will be hidden from my eyes.

³⁷ For with God nothing will be impossible."

⁴⁴ And he said to them, "This is what I told you, while I was still with you, that all things which are written in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms, concerning me must be fulfilled." ⁴⁵ Then he opened their minds, that they might understand the Scriptures.

⁹ For as yet they did not know the Scripture, that he must rise from the dead.

⁸ Why is it judged incredible with you, if God does raise the dead?

⁴ For whatever things were written before were written for our instruction, that through patience and through encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

²¹ who will transform our lowly body into the likeness of his glorious body, according to the power by which he is able even to subject all things to himself.

²⁰ Praise the LORD, all you angels of his, who are mighty in strength, who fulfill his word, obeying the voice of his word.

⁷ "Thus says the LORD of hosts: 'If you will walk in my ways, and if you will follow my instructions, then you also shall judge my house, and shall also keep my courts, and I will give you a place of access among these who stand by.

⁴³ Then the righteous will shine forth like the sun in the Kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.

¹⁰ See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven.

³⁸ For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the box-shaped vessel,

²⁴ Jesus said to them, "Is not this because you are mistaken, not knowing the Scriptures, nor the power of God? ²⁵ For when they will rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.

²⁷ They ate, they drank, they married, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the box-shaped vessel, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.

³⁴ Jesus said to them, "The people of this age marry and are given to someone to marry. ³⁵ But those who are regarded as worthy of a place in that age and the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given to someone to marry. ³⁶ For they cannot die any more, for they are like the angels, and are children of God, being children of the resurrection.

²⁸ Do not be amazed at this, for the hour comes, in which all that are in the tombs will hear his voice, ²⁹ and will come out; those who have done good, to the resurrection of life; and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgment.

²⁹ But I say this, brothers: the time is short, that from now on, those who have wives should be as though they had none;. ³⁰ and those who weep, as though they did not weep; and those who rejoice, as though they did not rejoice; and those who buy, as though they did not possess; ³¹ and those who use the world, as not using it to the fullest. For the form of this world is passing away.

¹ See what kind of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God; and we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know him. ² Beloved, now we are children of God, and it is not yet revealed what we will be. We know that, when he is revealed, we will be like him; for we will see him just as he is.

⁹ They sang a new song, saying, "You are worthy to take the scroll, and to open its seals: for you were killed, and redeemed for God with your blood those from every tribe, language, people, and nation, ¹⁰ and made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they will reign on earth." ¹¹ I saw, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures, and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousands of ten thousands, and thousands of thousands;

¹⁰ I fell down before his feet to worship him. He said to me, "Look. Do not do it. I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers who hold the testimony of Jesus. Worship God, for the testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of Prophecy."

¹³ But you go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,' for I came not to call the righteous, but sinners."

³ But he said to them, "Have you not read what David did, when he and his companions were hungry;

⁷ But if you had known what this means, 'I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the innocent.

¹⁶ and said to him, "Do you hear what these are saying?" Jesus said to them, "Yes. Did you never read, 'Out of the mouth of children and infants you have prepared praise?'"

⁴² Jesus said to them, "Did you never read in the Scriptures, 'The stone which the builders rejected, the same was made the head of the corner. This was from the Lord. It is marvelous in our eyes?'

⁶ Moreover he said, "I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look at God.

¹⁵ And God said moreover to Moses, "You shall tell the children of Israel this, 'The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.' This is my name forever, and this is how I am to be remembered from generation to generation. ¹⁶ Go, and gather the elders of the children of Israel together, and tell them, 'The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, has appeared to me, saying, "I have surely visited you, and seen that which is done to you in Egypt;

³⁷ But that the dead are raised, even Moses showed at the bush, when he called the Lord 'The God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.' ³⁸ Now he is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for all are alive to him."

³² 'I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob.' Moses trembled, and dared not look.

¹⁶ Instead, they were longing for a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.

²⁸ And it happened, when Jesus had finished saying these things, that the crowds were astonished at his teaching, ²⁹ for he taught them with authority, and not like their scribes.

²² When they heard it, they were astonished, and left him, and went away.

² And when the Sabbath had come, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many hearing him were astonished, saying, "Where did this man get these things?" and, "What is the wisdom that is given to this man, that such mighty works come about by his hands?

¹⁷ And Jesus said to them, "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." And they were utterly amazed at him.

⁴⁷ All who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.

²² All testified about him, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth, and they said, "Is not this Joseph's son?"

⁴⁶ The officers answered, "No man ever spoke like this man."

⁵ The coastlands have seen, and fear. The farthest parts of the earth tremble. They approach, and come. ⁶ Everyone helps his neighbor. They say to their brothers, "Be strong." ⁷ So the carpenter encourages the goldsmith. He who smoothes with the hammer encourages him who strikes the anvil, saying of the soldering, "It is good;" and he fastens it with nails, that it might not totter.

¹⁴ But the Pharisees went out, and conspired against him, how they might destroy him.

³ For the foolish, when they took their lamps, took no oil with them, ⁴ but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. ⁵ Now while the bridegroom delayed, they all slumbered and slept.

²⁸ And one of the scribes came, and heard them questioning together. Seeing that he had answered them well, asked him, "Which commandment is the greatest of all?" ²⁹ Jesus answered, "The first is, 'Hear, Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. ³⁰ And you are to love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.' ³¹ The second is this, 'You are to love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these."

⁴⁷ The chief priests therefore and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, "What are we doing? For this man does many signs. ⁴⁸ If we leave him alone like this, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation." ⁴⁹ But a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said to them, "You know nothing at all, ⁵⁰ nor do you consider that it is advantageous for you that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation not perish."

²⁴ Now when the captain of the temple, and the chief priests heard these words, they were very perplexed about them and what might become of this. ²⁵ One came and told them, "Look, the men whom you put in prison are in the temple, standing and teaching the people." ²⁶ Then the captain went with the officers, and brought them without violence, for they were afraid that the people might stone them. ²⁷ When they had brought them, they set them before the council. The high priest questioned them, ²⁸ saying, "Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name? And look, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and intend to bring this man's blood on us."

²³ About that time there arose no small stir concerning the Way. ²⁴ For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, who made silver shrines of Artemis, brought no little business to the craftsmen, ²⁵ whom he gathered together, with the workmen of like occupation, and said, "Sirs, you know that by this business we have our wealth. ²⁶ You see and hear, that not at Ephesus alone, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul has persuaded and turned away many people, saying that they are no gods, that are made with hands. ²⁷ Not only is there danger that this our trade come into disrepute; but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis will be counted as nothing, and that she should even be deposed from her magnificence, whom all Asia and the world worships." ²⁸ When they heard this they were filled with anger, and began to shout, saying, "Great is Artemis of the Ephesians."

²⁸ crying out, "Men of Israel, help. This is the man who teaches all men everywhere against the people, and the Law, and this place. Moreover, he also brought Greeks into the temple, and has defiled this holy place." ²⁹ For they had previously seen Trophimus, the Ephesian, with him in the city, and they supposed that Paul had brought him into the temple. ³⁰ All the city was moved, and the people ran together. They seized Paul and dragged him out of the temple. Immediately the doors were shut.

¹⁸ But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, "Why do you test me, you hypocrites?

² Pharisees came to him testing him, and asked him, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?"

³⁰ But the Pharisees and the Law scholars rejected the counsel of God, not being baptized by him themselves.

²⁵ And look, a certain Law scholar stood up and tested him, saying, "Teacher, what must I do to inherit everlasting life?" ²⁶ He said to him, "What is written in the Law? How do you read it?" ²⁷ He answered, "You are to love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself." ²⁸ He said to him, "You have answered correctly. Do this, and you will live." ²⁹ But he, desiring to justify himself, asked Jesus, "Who is my neighbor?" ³⁰ Jesus answered, "A certain man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who both stripped him and beat him, and departed, leaving him half dead. ³¹ By chance a certain priest was going down that way. When he saw him, he passed by on the other side. ³² In the same way a Levite also, when he came to the place, and saw him, passed by on the other side. ³³ But a certain Samaritan, as he traveled, came where he was. When he saw him, he was moved with compassion, ³⁴ came to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. He set him on his own animal, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. ³⁵ On the next day, he took out two denarii, and gave them to the host, and said to him, 'Take care of him. Whatever you spend beyond that, I will repay you when I return.' ³⁶ Now which of these three do you think seemed to be a neighbor to him who fell among the robbers?" ³⁷ He said, "He who showed mercy on him." Then Jesus said to him, "Go and do likewise."

⁴⁵ One of the Law scholars answered him, "Teacher, in saying this you insult us also." ⁴⁶ He said, "Woe to you Law scholars also. For you load people with burdens that are difficult to carry, and you yourselves won't even lift one finger to help carry those burdens.

⁵² Woe to you Law scholars. For you took away the key of knowledge. You did not enter in yourselves, and those who were entering in, you hindered."

³ Jesus, answering, spoke to the Law scholars and Pharisees, saying, "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?"

¹³ Send Zenas, the Law scholar, and Apollos on their journey speedily, that nothing may be lacking for them.

¹² I wrote for him the many things of my law; but they were regarded as a strange thing.

¹⁹ Therefore, whoever will break one of these least commandments, and teach others to do so, will be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever will do and teach them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. ²⁰ For I tell you that unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, there is no way you will enter into the kingdom of heaven.

⁶ he is not to honor his father or his mother.' You have made the word of God void because of your tradition.

²³ "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites. For you tithe mint, dill, and cumin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the Law: justice, mercy, and faith. But you ought to have done these, and not to have left the other undone. ²⁴ You blind guides, who strain out a gnat, and swallow a camel.

²⁸ And one of the scribes came, and heard them questioning together. Seeing that he had answered them well, asked him, "Which commandment is the greatest of all?" ²⁹ Jesus answered, "The first is, 'Hear, Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. ³⁰ And you are to love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.' ³¹ The second is this, 'You are to love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these." ³² The scribe said to him, "Truly, Teacher, you have said well that he is one, and there is none other but he, ³³ and to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbor as himself, is more important than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices."

⁴² But woe to you Pharisees. For you tithe mint and rue and every herb, but you bypass justice and the love of God. You ought to have done these, and not to have left the other undone.

⁵ And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might.

¹² Now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul,

⁶ The LORD your God will circumcise your heart, and the heart of your descendants, to love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, that you may live.

²⁷ He answered, "You are to love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself."

⁷ because the mind set on the flesh is hostile towards God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot.

¹⁶ "This is the covenant that I will make with them: 'After those days,' says the Lord, 'I will put my laws on their hearts, I will also write them on their minds.'" ¹⁷ "And I will remember their sins and their iniquities no more."

² By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and do his commandments. ³ For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. His commandments are not grievous. ⁴ For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world: our faith. ⁵ Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

¹⁸ "'You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people; but you shall love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD. ¹⁹ 'Honor your father and mother.' And, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'"

³¹ The second is this, 'You are to love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these."

⁹ For the commandments, "Do not commit adultery," "Do not murder," "Do not steal," "Do not give false testimony," "Do not covet," and whatever other commandments there are, are all summed up in this saying, namely, "You are to love your neighbor as yourself." ¹⁰ Love does not harm a neighbor. Love therefore is the fulfillment of the law.

² Let each one of us please his neighbor for that which is good, to be building him up.

¹⁴ For the whole law is fulfilled in one word, in this: "You are to love your neighbor as yourself."

¹⁰ So then, as we have opportunity, let us do what is good toward all people, and especially toward those who are of the household of the faith.

⁸ However, if you fulfill the royal law, according to the Scripture, "You are to love your neighbor as yourself," you do well.

¹² Therefore whatever you desire for people to do to you, so also you should do to them; for this is the Law and the Prophets.

¹⁷ For the Law was given through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

¹⁹ Now we know that whatever things the law says, it speaks to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be closed, and all the world may be brought under the judgment of God. ²⁰ Because by the works of the law, no flesh will be justified in his sight. For through the law comes the knowledge of sin. ²¹ But now apart from the law, a righteousness of God has been revealed, being testified by the Law and the Prophets;

⁹ For the commandments, "Do not commit adultery," "Do not murder," "Do not steal," "Do not give false testimony," "Do not covet," and whatever other commandments there are, are all summed up in this saying, namely, "You are to love your neighbor as yourself."

⁵ but the goal of this command is love, out of a pure heart and a good conscience and unfeigned faith;

⁷ Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God, and knows God. ⁸ He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. ⁹ By this God's love was revealed in us, that God has sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. ¹⁰ In this is love, not that we have loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son as the atoning sacrifice for our sins. ¹¹ Beloved, if God loved us in this way, we also ought to love one another.

¹⁹ We love, because he first loved us. ²⁰ If anyone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen. ²¹ This commandment we have from him, that he who loves God should also love his brother.

¹⁵ Then the Pharisees went and took counsel how they might entrap him in his talk.

³⁴ But the Pharisees, when they heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, gathered themselves together.

³⁵ Jesus responded, as he taught in the temple, "How can the scribes say that the Christ is the son of David? ³⁶ David himself said in the Holy Spirit, 'The Lord said to my Lord, "Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies the footstool of your feet."' ³⁷ David himself calls him Lord, so how can he be his son?" The common people heard him gladly.

⁴¹ He said to them, "Why do they say that the Christ is David's son? ⁴² David himself says in the scroll of Psalms, 'The Lord said to my Lord, "Sit at my right hand, ⁴³ until I make your enemies the footstool of your feet."' ⁴⁴ "David therefore calls him Lord, so how is he his son?"

¹³ He said, "Listen now, house of David: Is it not enough for you to try the patience of men, that you will try the patience of my God also? ¹⁴ Therefore the LORD himself will give you a sign. Look, the virgin will conceive, and bear a son, and they will call his name Immanuel.

⁶ For to us a child is born. To us a son is given; and the government will be on his shoulders, and his name is called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. ⁷ Of the increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end, on the throne of David, and on his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from that time on, even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

¹ A branch will come out of the stock of Jesse, and a shoot out of his roots will bear fruit. ² The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him: the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD. ³ His delight will be in the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by the sight of his eyes, neither decide by the hearing of his ears; ⁴ but with righteousness he will judge the poor, and decide with equity for the humble of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; and with the breath of his lips he will kill the wicked.

⁵ "Look, the days come," says the LORD, "that I will raise to David a righteous Branch, and he shall reign as king and deal wisely, and shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. ⁶ In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely; and this is his name by which he shall be called: 'The LORD our righteousness.'

²³ I will set up one shepherd over them, and he shall feed them, even my servant David; he shall feed them, and he shall be their shepherd. ²⁴ I, the LORD, will be their God, and my servant David prince among them;" I, the LORD, have spoken it.

¹¹ On that day I will rebuild the tabernacle of David that has fallen, and repair its broken places, and I will rebuild its ruins, and I will restore it as in the days of old;

¹ A record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

⁴ And gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he asked them where the Christ would be born. ⁵ And they said to him, "In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written through the prophet, ⁶ 'And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, are in no way least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come forth a ruler who will shepherd my people, Israel.'"

²⁷ And as Jesus passed by from there, two blind men followed him, calling out and saying, "Have mercy on us, son of David."

³³ Those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, "You are truly the Son of God."

¹³ Now when Jesus came into the parts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?" ¹⁴ They said, "Some say John the Baptist, some, Elijah, and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets." ¹⁵ He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" ¹⁶ Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." ¹⁷ And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.

⁹ The crowds who went before him, and who followed kept shouting, "Hosanna to the son of David. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest."

⁶⁹ and has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David ⁷⁰ (as he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets who have been from of old),

⁴⁹ Nathanael answered him, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God. You are King of Israel."

⁶⁸ Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of everlasting life. ⁶⁹ We have come to believe and know that you are the Holy One of God."

⁴¹ Others said, "This is the Christ." But some said, "What, does the Christ come out of Galilee? ⁴² Hasn't the Scripture said that the Christ comes of the offspring of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?"

²⁸ Thomas answered and said to him, "My Lord and my God."

²² When he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king, to whom he also testified, 'I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after my heart, who will do all my will.' ²³ From this man's offspring, according to his promise, God has brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus,

⁹ Therefore God also highly exalted him, and gave to him the name which is above every name; ¹⁰ that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, those on earth, and those under the earth, ¹¹ and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

⁷ However, what things were gain to me, these have I counted loss for Christ. ⁸ More than that, I count all things to be a loss compared to the far greater value of knowing Christ Jesus, my Lord, for whom I suffered the loss of all things, and count them nothing but refuse, that I may gain Christ ⁹ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own, that which is of the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; ¹⁰ that I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, becoming conformed to his death; ¹¹ where there cannot be Greek and Jew, circumcision and uncircumcision, barbarian, Scythian, slave, freeman; but Christ is all, and in all.

⁴ coming to him, a living stone, though rejected by people but chosen by God, precious. ⁵ You also, as living stones, are built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. ⁶ Because it is contained in Scripture, "Look, I am laying in Zion a stone, a chosen precious cornerstone, and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame." ⁷ For you who believe therefore is the honor, but for those who do not believe, "The stone which the builders rejected, has become the chief cornerstone,"

¹² saying with a loud voice, "Worthy is the Lamb who has been killed to receive the power, wealth, wisdom, strength, honor, glory, and blessing." ¹³ I heard every created thing which is in heaven, on the earth, under the earth, on the sea, and everything in them, saying, "To him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb be the blessing, the honor, the glory, and the dominion, forever and ever." ¹⁴ The four living creatures were saying, "Amen." The elders fell down and worshiped.

² "The Spirit of the LORD spoke by me. His word was on my tongue.

³⁶ David himself said in the Holy Spirit, 'The Lord said to my Lord, "Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies the footstool of your feet."'

²⁶ It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ. ²⁷ He came in the Spirit into the temple. When the parents brought in the child, Jesus, that they might do concerning him according to the requirement of the Law,

¹⁶ "Brothers, it was necessary that this Scripture should be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit spoke before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who was guide to those who took Jesus.

³⁰ Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that one of his descendants would sit on his throne, ³¹ he foreseeing this spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that neither was he left in Sheol, nor did his flesh see decay.

⁷ Therefore, even as the Holy Spirit says, "Today if you will hear his voice,

²¹ For no prophecy ever came by human will, but people spoke from God, being moved by the Holy Spirit.

¹⁰ I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and I heard behind me a loud voice, like a trumpet

² Immediately I was in the Spirit; and look, there was a throne set in heaven, and one sitting on the throne.

¹⁵ I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will bruise your head, and you will bruise his heel."

⁸ Ask of me, and I will give the nations as your inheritance, and the farthest parts of the earth for your possession. ⁹ You shall rule them with an iron scepter. You shall dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel."

⁹ You will make them as a fiery furnace in the time of your anger. The LORD will swallow them up in his wrath. The fire shall devour them.

¹ [A Psalm by David.] The LORD says to my Lord, "Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet."

¹ Who is this who comes from Edom, with dyed garments from Bozrah? this who is glorious in his clothing, marching in the greatness of his strength? "It is I who speak in righteousness, mighty to save." ² Why are you red in your clothing, and your garments like him who treads in the wine vat? ³ "I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the peoples there was no man with me: yes, I trod them in my anger, and trampled them in my wrath; and their lifeblood is sprinkled on my garments, and I have stained all my clothing. ⁴ For the day of vengeance was in my heart, and the year of my redeemed has come. ⁵ I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to uphold: therefore my own arm brought salvation to me; and my wrath, it upheld me. ⁶ I trod down the peoples in my anger, and made them drunk in my wrath, and I poured out their lifeblood on the earth."

³⁴ For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he says himself, 'The Lord said to my Lord, "Sit by my right hand, ³⁵ until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet."'

² to the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ in every place, both theirs and ours:

²⁵ For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.

⁸ More than that, I count all things to be a loss compared to the far greater value of knowing Christ Jesus, my Lord, for whom I suffered the loss of all things, and count them nothing but refuse, that I may gain Christ

³ He is the radiance of his glory, the very image of his substance, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had made purification for sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

¹³ But which of the angels has he told at any time, "Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies the footstool of your feet?"

¹² but this one, when he had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the right hand of God; ¹³ from that time waiting until his enemies are made the footstool of his feet.

² looking to Jesus, the founder and completer of the faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

¹⁹ I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him who sat on the horse, and against his army.

¹¹ I saw a great white throne, and him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. There was found no place for them. ¹² I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and they opened books. Another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. The dead were judged out of the things which were written in the books, according to their works. ¹³ The sea gave up the dead who were in it. Death and hell gave up the dead who were in them. They were judged, each one according to his works. ¹⁴ Death and hell were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. ¹⁵ If anyone was not found written in the Book of Life, he was cast into the lake of fire.

⁵⁸ Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I tell you, before Abraham came into existence, I AM."

³ concerning his Son, who was born of the offspring of David according to the flesh, ⁴ who was declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord,

⁵ of whom are the patriarchs, and from whom is the Christ, as concerning the flesh, who is over all, God, blessed forever. Amen.

⁶ who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God a thing to be grasped, ⁷ but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men. ⁸ And being found in human form, he humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, yes, the death of the cross.

¹⁶ Without controversy, the mystery of godliness is great: He was revealed in the flesh, justified by the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, and received up in glory.

¹⁴ Since then the children have shared in flesh and blood, he also himself in like manner partook of the same, that through death he might bring to nothing him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,

¹⁶ I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify these things to you for the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David; the bright morning star."

¹⁵ "They are amazed. They answer no more. They do not have a word to say. ¹⁶ Shall I wait, because they do not speak, because they stand still, and answer no more?

² Why, when I came, was there no man? When I called, was there none to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it can't redeem? or have I no power to deliver? Look, at my rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness: their fish stink, because there is no water, and die for thirst. ³ I clothe the heavens with blackness, and I make sackcloth their covering." ⁴ The LORD has given me the tongue of those who are taught, that I may know how to sustain with a word him who is weary: he wakens morning by morning, he wakens my ear to hear as those who are taught. ⁵ The Lord GOD has opened my ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away backward. ⁶ I gave my back to those who strike, and my cheeks to those who tore out my beard; I did not cover my face from insults and spitting. ⁷ For the LORD will help me; therefore I have not been confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be disappointed. ⁸ He is near who justifies me; who will bring charges against me? Let us stand up together: who is my adversary? Let him come near to me. ⁹ Look, the LORD will help me; who is he who shall condemn me? Look, all they shall wax old as a garment, the moth shall eat them up.

²⁷ They answered Jesus, and said, "We do not know." He also said to them, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.

³⁴ When Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, "You are not far from the Kingdom of God." No one dared ask him any question after that.

¹⁷ As he said these things, all his adversaries were disappointed, and all the crowd rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.

⁶ But they could make no reply to this.

⁴⁰ They did not dare to ask him any more questions.

⁷ But when they continued asking him, he looked up and said to them, "He who is without sin among you, let him throw the first stone at her." ⁸ Again he stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground. ⁹ But when they heard it, they went out one by one, beginning from the oldest, even to the last, and he was left alone with the woman where she was, in the middle.

¹⁴ Seeing the man who was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.
