⁹ about sin, because they do not believe in me;

¹⁶ He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who disbelieves will be condemned.

¹⁸ The one who believes in him is not judged, but the one who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. ¹⁹ This is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light, because their works were evil. ²⁰ For everyone who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, so that his works will not be exposed. ²¹ But the one who does the truth comes to the light, that his works may be revealed, that they have been done in God."

⁴⁰ But you are unwilling to come to me so that you may have life. ⁴¹ I do not receive glory from people. ⁴² But I know you, that you do not have God's love in yourselves. ⁴³ I have come in my Father's name, and you do not receive me. If another comes in his own name, you will receive him. ⁴⁴ How can you believe, who receive glory from one another, and you do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?

²³ He said to them, "You are from beneath. I am from above. You are of this world. I am not of this world. ²⁴ I said therefore to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am he, you will die in your sins."

⁴² Therefore Jesus said to them, "If God were your father, you would love me, for I came out and have come from God. For I have not come of myself, but he sent me. ⁴³ Why do you not understand my speech? Because you cannot hear my word. ⁴⁴ You are of your father, the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks on his own; for he is a liar, and its father. ⁴⁵ But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me. ⁴⁶ Which of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me? ⁴⁷ He who is of God hears the words of God. For this cause you do not hear, because you are not of God."

⁴⁷ And if anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him. For I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. ⁴⁸ He who rejects me, and does not accept my words, has one who judges him. The word that I spoke will judge him on the last day.

²² If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have had sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. ²³ He who hates me hates my Father also. ²⁴ If I had not done among them the works which no one else did, they would not have had sin. But now have they seen and also hated both me and my Father. ²⁵ But this happened so that the word may be fulfilled which is written in their law, 'They hated me without a cause.'

²² "Men of Israel, hear these words. Jesus the Nazorean, a man approved by God to you by mighty works and wonders and signs which God did by him in the midst of you, even as you yourselves know, ²³ him, being delivered up by the determined counsel and foreknowledge of God, by the hand of lawless men, crucified and killed; ²⁴ whom God raised up, having freed him from the pains of death, because it was not possible that he should be held by it. ²⁵ For David says concerning him, 'I saw the Lord always before me, for he is at my right hand, that I should not be shaken. ²⁶ Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced, and moreover my flesh also will dwell in hope; ²⁷ because you will not abandon my soul in Sheol, neither will you allow your Holy One to see decay. ²⁸ You made known to me the paths of life. You will make me full of joy in your presence.' ²⁹ "Brothers, I may tell you freely of the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. ³⁰ Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that one of his descendants would sit on his throne, ³¹ he foreseeing this spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that neither was he left in Sheol, nor did his flesh see decay. ³² This Jesus God raised up, to which we all are witnesses. ³³ Being therefore exalted by the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this, which you see and hear. ³⁴ For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he says himself, 'The Lord said to my Lord, "Sit by my right hand, ³⁵ until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet."' ³⁶ "Let all the house of Israel therefore know certainly that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified." ³⁷ Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brothers, what should we do?" ³⁸ Peter said to them, "Repent, and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

¹⁴ But you denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a man who was a murderer to be granted to you, ¹⁵ and killed the Originator of life, whom God raised from the dead, to which we are witnesses. ¹⁶ By faith in his name, his name has made this man strong, whom you see and know. Yes, the faith which is through him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all. ¹⁷ "Now, brothers, I know that you did this in ignorance, as did also your rulers. ¹⁸ But the things which God announced by the mouth of all his prophets, that the Christ should suffer, he thus fulfilled. ¹⁹ "Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out, so that there may come times of refreshing from the presence of the Lord,

⁵¹ "You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did, so you do. ⁵² Which of the prophets did not your fathers persecute? They killed those who foretold the coming of the Righteous One, of whom you have now become betrayers and murderers. ⁵³ You received the Law as it was ordained by angels, and did not keep it." ⁵⁴ Now when they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed at him with their teeth.

⁹ "In fact, I thought to myself that I ought to do many things against the name of Jesus the Nazorean. ¹⁰ This I also did in Jerusalem. I both shut up many of the saints in prisons, having received authority from the chief priests, and when they were put to death I gave my vote against them.

¹⁹ Now we know that whatever things the law says, it speaks to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be closed, and all the world may be brought under the judgment of God. ²⁰ Because by the works of the law, no flesh will be justified in his sight. For through the law comes the knowledge of sin.

⁹ I was alive apart from the law once, but when the commandment came, sin became alive, and I died.

¹⁵ who killed both the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and drove us out, and did not please God, and are hostile to all people; ¹⁶ forbidding us to speak to those who are not Jewish that they may be saved; to fill up their sins always. But wrath has come on them to the uttermost.

¹³ although I was before a blasphemer, a persecutor, and insolent. However, I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.

¹² Beware, brothers, lest perhaps there be in any one of you an evil heart of unbelief, in falling away from the living God;

²⁸ Anyone who disregards the Law of Moses dies without compassion on the word of two or three witnesses. ²⁹ How much worse punishment, do you think, will he be judged worthy of, who has trodden under foot the Son of God, and has counted the blood of the covenant with which he was sanctified an unholy thing, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?
