² They will put you out of the synagogues, but an hour is coming when whoever kills you will think that he is offering a service to God.

⁵ who say, 'Keep your distance, do not come near to me, for I am holier than you.' These are a smoke in my nose, a fire that burns all the day.

⁵ Hear the word of the LORD, you who tremble at his word: "Your brothers who hate you, who cast you out for my name's sake, have said, 'Let the LORD be glorified, that we may see your joy;' but it is those who shall be disappointed.

²⁸ And do not be afraid of those who kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul. Rather, fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

⁹ Then they will deliver you up to oppression, and will kill you. You will be hated by all of the nations for my name's sake.

²² Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you and insult you, and throw out your name as evil, for the Son of Man's sake.

²¹ Jesus said to her, "Woman, believe me, the hour comes, when neither in this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, will you worship the Father.

²² His parents said these things because they feared the Jewish leaders; for the Jewish leaders had already agreed that if anyone would confess him as the Christ, he would be put out of the synagogue.

³⁴ They answered him, "You were altogether born in sins, and do you teach us?" They threw him out.

⁴² Nevertheless even of the rulers many believed in him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess it, so that they would not be put out of the synagogue,

¹³ and set up false witnesses who said, "This man never stops speaking blasphemous words against this holy place and the Law. ¹⁴ For we have heard him say that this Jesus the Nazorean will destroy this place, and will change the customs which Moses delivered to us."

⁵⁶ And he said, "Look, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God."

¹ But Saul, still breathing threats and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest, ² and asked for letters from him to the synagogues of Damascus, that if he found any who were of the Way, whether men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.

³ "I am indeed a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, instructed according to the strict manner of the Law of our fathers, being zealous for God, even as you all are this day. ⁴ I persecuted this Way to the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.

¹⁹ I said, 'Lord, they themselves know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue those who believed in you. ²⁰ When the blood of Stephen, your witness, was shed, I also was standing by, and guarding the cloaks of those who killed him.' ²¹ "He said to me, 'Depart, for I will send you out far from here to non-Jewish people.'" ²² They listened to him until he said that; then they lifted up their voice, and said, "Rid the earth of this fellow, for he is not fit to live." ²³ As they yelled, and threw off their cloaks, and threw dust into the air,

⁹ "In fact, I thought to myself that I ought to do many things against the name of Jesus the Nazorean. ¹⁰ This I also did in Jerusalem. I both shut up many of the saints in prisons, having received authority from the chief priests, and when they were put to death I gave my vote against them. ¹¹ Punishing them often in all the synagogues, I tried to make them blaspheme. Being exceedingly enraged against them, I persecuted them even to foreign cities.

² For I testify about them that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. ³ For being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God.

¹³ Being defamed, we entreat. We are made as the filth of the world, the dirt wiped off by all, even until now.

¹³ For you have heard of my former way of life in Judaism, how I severely persecuted the church of God, and tried to destroy it. ¹⁴ I advanced in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my countrymen, being more exceedingly zealous for the traditions of my fathers.

⁶ concerning zeal, persecuting the church; concerning the righteousness which is in the law, found blameless.

⁹ When he opened the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of people who had been killed for the Word of God, and for the testimony which they had.
