⁶ You became imitators of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit,

¹⁴ "Therefore, look, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak tenderly to her.

²⁴ Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

²⁹ Jesus said, "Truly I tell you, there is no one who has left house, or brothers, or sisters, or mother, or father, or children, or land, for my sake, and for the sake of the Good News, ³⁰ but he will receive one hundred times more now in this time, houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and land, with persecutions; and in the age to come, everlasting life.

¹² Again, therefore, Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life."

¹³ You call me, 'Teacher' and 'Lord.' You say so correctly, for so I am. ¹⁴ If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. ¹⁵ For I have given you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you.

¹⁶ I will pray to the Father, and he will give you another Helper, that he may be with you forever,— ¹⁷ the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive; because it neither sees him nor knows him; but you know him, for he lives with you, and will be in you. ¹⁸ I will not leave you orphans. I will come to you.

⁴¹ They therefore departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the Name.

³¹ So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace, and were built up. They were multiplied, walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit.

⁵² The disciples were filled with joy with the Holy Spirit.

⁵ But the Jews, being moved with jealousy, took along some wicked men from the marketplace, and gathering a crowd, set the city in an uproar. Assaulting the house of Jason, they sought to bring them out to the people. ⁶ When they did not find them, they dragged Jason and certain brothers before the rulers of the city, crying, "These who have turned the world upside down have come here also, ⁷ whom Jason has received. These all act contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Jesus." ⁸ The crowd and the rulers of the city were troubled when they heard these things. ⁹ When they had taken security from Jason and the rest, they let them go. ¹⁰ The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Beroea. When they arrived, they went into the Jewish synagogue.

³ Not only this, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering works perseverance; ⁴ and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope: ⁵ and hope does not disappoint us, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

¹⁶ The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God; ¹⁷ and if children, then heirs; heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ; if indeed we suffer with him, that we may also be glorified with him. ¹⁸ For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which will be revealed to us.

¹³ Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope, in the power of the Holy Spirit.

¹⁶ I appeal to you therefore, be imitators of me.

¹ Be imitators of me, even as I also am of Christ.

¹ Moreover, brothers, we make known to you the grace of God which has been given in the churches of Macedonia; ² how that in much proof of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded to the riches of their liberality.

⁵ This was not as we had hoped, but first they gave their own selves to the Lord, and to us through the will of God.

²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

¹ Be therefore imitators of God, as beloved children.

¹⁷ Brothers, be imitators together of me, and note those who walk this way, even as you have us for an example.

¹³ For this cause we also thank God without ceasing, that, when you received from us the word of the message of God, you accepted it not as a human word, but, as it is in truth, the word of God, which also works in you who believe. ¹⁴ For you, brothers, became imitators of the churches of God which are in Judea in Christ Jesus; for you also suffered the same things from your own countrymen, even as they did from the Judeans;

² and sent Timothy, our brother and God's fellow worker in the Good News of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith; ³ that no one be moved by these afflictions. For you know that we are appointed to this task. ⁴ For truly, when we were with you, we told you beforehand that we are to suffer affliction, even as it happened, and you know.

⁴ so that we ourselves boast about you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and in the afflictions which you endure.

⁹ not because we do not have the right, but to make ourselves an example to you, that you should imitate us.

³⁴ For you both had compassion on them that were in chains, and joyfully accepted the plundering of your possessions, since you knew that you yourselves had a better possession and an enduring one.

⁶ Wherein you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials,

⁸ whom not having seen you love; in whom, though now you do not see him, yet believing, you rejoice greatly with joy inexpressible and full of glory—

¹³ Now who is he who will harm you, if you become zealous of that which is good?

¹¹ Beloved, do not imitate that which is evil, but that which is good. He who does good is of God. He who does evil hasn't seen God.
