⁶ The LORD called yet again, "Samuel. Samuel." And he arose and went to Eli, and said, "Here I am; for you called me." He answered, "I did not call, my son; lie down again."

Do not be grieved; for the joy of the LORD is your strength." ¹¹ So the Levites stilled all the people, saying, "Hold your peace, for the day is holy; neither be grieved." ¹² All the people went their way to eat, and to drink, and to send portions, and to make great mirth, because they had understood the words that were declared to them.

¹⁹ Therefore the Jews of the villages, who live in the unwalled towns, make the fourteenth day of the month Adar a day of gladness and feasting, a good day, and a day of sending presents of food to one another.

²² as the days in which the Jews had rest from their enemies, and the month which was turned to them from sorrow to gladness, and from mourning into a good day; that they should make them days of feasting and gladness, and of sending presents of food to one another, and gifts to the needy.

² Give a portion to seven, yes, even to eight; for you do not know what evil will be on the earth.

⁴¹ But give for gifts to the needy those things which are within, and see, all things will be clean to you.

¹² He also said to the one who had invited him, "When you make a dinner or a supper, do not call your friends, nor your brothers, nor your kinsmen, nor rich neighbors, or perhaps they might also return the favor, and pay you back. ¹³ But when you make a feast, ask the poor, the maimed, the lame, or the blind; ¹⁴ and you will be blessed, because they do not have the resources to repay you. For you will be repaid in the resurrection of the righteous."
