¹ Samuel said to Saul, "The LORD sent me to anoint you to be king over his people, over Israel. Now therefore listen to the voice of the words of the LORD. ² Thus says the LORD of hosts, 'I will punish Amalek for what he did to Israel, how he set himself against him in the way, when he came up out of Egypt. ³ Now go and strike Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and do not spare them; but kill both man and woman, infant and nursing baby, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.'" ⁴ Saul summoned the people, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Judah. ⁵ Saul came to the city of Amalek, and lay in wait in the valley. ⁶ Saul said to the Kenites, "Go, depart, go down from among the Amalekites, lest I sweep you away with them; for you showed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt." So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites. ⁷ Saul struck the Amalekites, from Havilah as you go to Shur, that is before Egypt. ⁸ He took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword. ⁹ But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and the cattle, and the fat ones and the lambs, and all that was good, and wouldn't utterly destroy them; but everything that was despised and rejected, that they utterly destroyed. ¹⁰ Then the word of the LORD came to Samuel, saying, ¹¹ "It grieves me that I have made Saul king; for he has turned back from following me, and has not carried out my commandments." And Samuel was angry; and he cried to the LORD all night. ¹² And Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning; and it was told Samuel, saying, "Saul came to Carmel, and look, he set up a monument for himself, and turned, and passed on, and went down to Gilgal." And Samuel came to Saul, and look, he was offering up a burnt offering to the LORD, the best of the spoils which he had brought from Amalek. ¹³ And Samuel came to Saul; and Saul said to him, "You are blessed by the LORD. I have performed the commandment of the LORD." ¹⁴ Samuel said, "Then what does this bleating of the sheep in my ears, and the lowing of the cattle which I hear mean?" ¹⁵ And Saul said, "I have brought them from Amalek; for the people spared the best of the sheep and the cattle to sacrifice to the LORD your God, and I have utterly destroyed the rest." ¹⁶ Then Samuel said to Saul, "Stay, and I will tell you what the LORD has said to me last night." He said to him, "Say on." ¹⁷ Samuel said, "Though you were little in your own sight, weren't you made the head of the tribes of Israel? The LORD anointed you king over Israel; ¹⁸ and the LORD sent you on a journey, and said to you, 'Go, and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until you have destroyed them.' ¹⁹ Why then did you not obey the voice of the LORD, but took the spoils, and did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD?" ²⁰ Saul said to Samuel, "But I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and have gone the way which the LORD sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites. ²¹ But the people took of the spoil, sheep and cattle, the chief of the devoted things, to sacrifice to the LORD your God in Gilgal." ²² Samuel said, "Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Look, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams. ²³ For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as idolatry and teraphim. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has also rejected you from being king." ²⁴ Saul said to Samuel, "I have sinned; for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and your words, because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice. ²⁵ Now therefore, please pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD." ²⁶ Samuel said to Saul, "I will not return with you; for you have rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD has rejected you from being king over Israel." ²⁷ As Samuel turned about to go away, he grabbed the skirt of his robe, and it tore. ²⁸ Samuel said to him, "The LORD has torn the kingdom of Israel from you this day, and has given it to a neighbor of yours who is better than you. ²⁹ And also the Eternal One of Israel will not retract or change his mind; for he is not a man that he should change his mind." ³⁰ Then he said, "I have sinned: yet please honor me now before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and come back with me, that I may worship the LORD your God." ³¹ So Samuel went back with Saul; and he worshiped the LORD. ³² Then Samuel said, "Bring here to me Agag the king of the Amalekites." Agag came to him with faltering steps. Agag said, "Surely the bitterness of death is past." ³³ Samuel said, "As your sword has made women childless, so your mother will be childless among women." Samuel cut Agag in pieces before the LORD in Gilgal. ³⁴ Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul. ³⁵ And Samuel did not see Saul again until the day of his death; for Samuel mourned for Saul. And the LORD grieved that he had made Saul king over Israel.

¹⁶ "Tomorrow about this time I will send you a man out of the land of Benjamin, and you shall anoint him to be prince over my people Israel; and he shall save my people out of the hand of the Philistines; for I have seen the suffering of my people, because their cry has come to me."

¹ Then Samuel took the vial of oil and poured it on his head, and kissed him, and said, "Has not the LORD anointed you to be ruler over his people Israel? And you shall rule over the people of the LORD, and you shall save them out of the hand of their enemies all around. And this shall be the sign to you that the LORD has anointed you to be ruler over his inheritance.

¹⁴ If you will fear the LORD, and serve him, and listen to his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of the LORD, and both you and also the king who reigns over you are followers of the LORD your God, then he will rescue you.

¹³ Samuel said to Saul, "You have done foolishly. You have not kept the commandment of the LORD your God, which he commanded you; for now the LORD would have established your kingdom on Israel forever.

¹⁶ Then Samuel said to Saul, "Stay, and I will tell you what the LORD has said to me last night." He said to him, "Say on." ¹⁷ Samuel said, "Though you were little in your own sight, weren't you made the head of the tribes of Israel? The LORD anointed you king over Israel; ¹⁸ and the LORD sent you on a journey, and said to you, 'Go, and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until you have destroyed them.'

² "The Spirit of the LORD spoke by me. His word was on my tongue. ³ The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spoke to me, 'One who rules over men righteously, who rules in the fear of God,

¹² May the LORD give you discretion and understanding, and put you in charge of Israel; that so you may keep the law of the LORD your God. ¹³ Then you will prosper, if you observe to do the statutes and the ordinances which the LORD gave Moses concerning Israel. Be strong, and courageous. Do not be afraid, neither be dismayed.

¹⁰ Now therefore, you kings, be wise; receive correction, you judges of the earth. ¹¹ Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

⁸ Then Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim. ⁹ Moses said to Joshua, "Choose men for us, and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with God's rod in my hand." ¹⁰ So Joshua did as Moses had told him, and fought with Amalek; and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. ¹¹ It happened, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. ¹² But Moses' hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side. His hands were steady until sunset. ¹³ Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword. ¹⁴ The LORD said to Moses, "Write this for a memorial on a scroll, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: that I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek from under the sky." ¹⁵ Moses built an altar, and called its name the LORD our Banner. ¹⁶ He said, "A hand upon the throne of the LORD. The LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.'"

²⁰ He looked at Amalek, and took up his parable, and said, "Amalek was the first of the nations, But his latter end shall come to destruction."

¹⁷ Remember what Amalek did to you by the way as you came forth out of Egypt; ¹⁸ how he met you by the way, and struck the hindmost of you, all who lagged behind you, when you were faint and weary; and he did not fear God. ¹⁹ Therefore it shall be, when the LORD your God has given you rest from all your enemies all around, in the land which the LORD your God gives you for an inheritance to possess it, that you shall blot out the memory of Amalek from under the sky; you shall not forget.

³⁴ and they shall teach no more every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD'; for they shall all know me, from their least to their greatest,for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sins I will remember no more."

² They do not consider in their hearts that I remember all their wickedness. Now their own deeds have engulfed them. They are before my face.

⁷ The LORD has sworn by the pride of Jacob, "Surely I will never forget any of their works.

¹⁷ To Adam he said, "Because you have listened to your wife's voice, and have eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you, saying, 'You shall not eat of it,' cursed is the ground for your sake. In toil you will eat of it all the days of your life. ¹⁸ Thorns also and thistles will it bring forth to you; and you will eat the plants of the field.

⁵ you must not bow yourself down to them, nor serve them, for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, and upon the children's children, on the third and on the fourth [generation] of those who hate me,

²⁸ "'Notwithstanding, no devoted thing, that a man shall devote to the LORD of all that he has, whether of man or animal, or of the field of his possession, shall be sold or redeemed: every devoted thing is most holy to the LORD. ²⁹ "'No one devoted, who shall be devoted from among men, shall be ransomed; he shall surely be put to death.

¹⁷ Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman who has known man by lying with him.

¹⁵ you shall surely strike the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly, and all that is in it and its livestock, with the edge of the sword. ¹⁶ You shall gather all its plunder into the midst of its street, and shall burn with fire the city, and all its plunder as a whole burnt offering to the LORD your God: and it shall be a ruin forever; it shall not be built again.

¹⁶ But of the cities of these peoples, that the LORD your God gives you for an inheritance, you shall save alive nothing that breathes; ¹⁷ but you shall utterly destroy them: the Hethite, and the Amorite, the Canaanite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite; as the LORD your God has commanded you; ¹⁸ that they not teach you to do after all their abominations, which they have done to their gods; so would you sin against the LORD your God.

¹⁷ The city shall be devoted, even it and all that is in it, to the LORD. Only Rahab the prostitute shall live, she and all who are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent. ¹⁸ But as for you, only keep yourselves from the devoted thing, so as not to covet and take of the devoted thing and make the camp of Israel accursed, and bring trouble on it. ¹⁹ But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of bronze and iron, are holy to the LORD. They shall come into the LORD's treasury." ²⁰ So the people shouted, and the priests blew the trumpets. It happened, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, that the people shouted with a great shout, and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city. ²¹ They utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, both young and old, and ox, and sheep, and donkey, with the edge of the sword.

¹⁹ He struck Nob, the city of the priests, with the edge of the sword, both men and women, children and nursing babies, and cattle and donkeys and sheep.

²¹ Prepare for slaughter of his children because of the iniquity of their fathers, that they not rise up and possess the earth, and fill the surface of the world with cities. ²² "I will rise up against them," says the LORD of hosts, "and cut off from Babylon name and remnant, and son and son's son," says the LORD.

²⁰ For the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will, but because of him who subjected it, in hope ²¹ that the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of decay into the glorious freedom of the children of God. ²² For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers with labor pains together until now.

²⁴ Ziph, and Telem, and Bealoth,

⁸ He numbered them in Bezek; and the children of Israel were three hundred thousand, and the men of Judah thirty thousand.

¹⁵ And Samuel arose and departed from Gilgal, and the rest of the people went up after Saul to meet him after the men of war, when they had come up from Gilgal to Gibeah of Benjamin. And Saul numbered the people who were present with him, about six hundred men.

²⁵ Be it far from you to do things like that, to kill the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous should be like the wicked. May that be far from you. Shouldn't the Judge of all the earth do right?"

¹² The men said to Lot, "Do you have anybody else here? Sons-in-law, your sons, your daughters, and whoever you have in the city, bring them out of the place: ¹³ for we will destroy this place, because the outcry against them has grown great before God that he has sent us to destroy it." ¹⁴ Lot went out, and spoke to his sons-in-law, who were pledged to marry his daughters, and said, "Get up. Get out of this place, for God will destroy the city." But he seemed to his sons-in-law to be joking. ¹⁵ When the morning came, then the angels hurried Lot along, saying, “Get up. Take your wife, and your two daughters who are here, and get out, lest you be swept away in the punishment of the city." ¹⁶ But he hesitated, so the men grabbed his hand, his wife's hand, and his two daughters' hands, God being merciful to him; and they took him out, and set him outside of the city.

⁹ Jethro rejoiced for all the goodness which the LORD had done to Israel, in that he had delivered them out of the hand of the Egyptians. ¹⁰ Jethro said, "Blessed be the LORD, who has delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of Pharaoh; who has delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians.

¹⁹ Listen now to my voice. I will give you counsel, and God be with you. You represent the people before God, and bring the causes to God.

²⁹ Moses said to Hobab, the son of Reuel the Midianite, Moses' brother-in-law, "We are journeying to the place of which the LORD said, 'I will give it to you.' Come with us, and we will treat you well; for the LORD has spoken good concerning Israel." ³⁰ He said to him, "I will not go; but I will depart to my own land, and to my relatives." ³¹ He said, "Do not leave us, please; because you know how we are to camp in the wilderness, and you can be our eyes. ³² And it shall be, if you go with us, that it shall be that whatever good the LORD does to us, we will do the same to you."

²⁶ He spoke to the congregation, saying, "Depart, please, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest you be consumed in all their sins." ²⁷ So they went away from the tent of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side: and Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood at the door of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their little ones.

³⁴ All Israel that were around them fled at their cry; for they said, "Lest the earth swallow us up."

²¹ He looked at the Kenite, and took up his parable, and said, "Your dwelling place is strong. Your nest is set in the rock. ²² Nevertheless Kain shall be wasted, until Asshur carries you away captive."

¹⁶ And the descendants of the Kenite, Moses' father-in-law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the people of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which is in the Negev of Arad; and they went and lived with the people.

¹¹ Now Heber the Kenite had separated himself from the Kenites, even from the descendants of Hobab the brother-in-law of Moses, and had pitched his tent as far as the oak in Zaanannim, which is by Kedesh.

²⁴ Jael shall be blessed above women, the wife of Heber the Kenite; blessed shall she be above women in the tent.

¹⁰ Achish said, "Against whom have you made a raid today?" David would say, "Against the Negev of Judah," or "Against the Negev of Jerahmeel," or "Against the Negev of the Kenizzites."

⁵⁵ The families of scribes who lived at Jabez: the Tirathites, the Shimeathites, the Sucathites. These are the Kenites who came from Hammath, the father of the house of Rechab.

⁶ Leave your simple ways, and live. Walk in the way of understanding."

⁴⁰ With many other words he testified, and exhorted them, saying, "Save yourselves from this crooked generation."

¹⁷ Therefore, "'Go out from their midst, and be separate,' says the Lord, 'and touch no unclean thing,' and I will receive you.

¹⁶ May the Lord grant mercy to the house of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain,

¹⁴ The fruits which your soul lusted after have been lost to you, and all things that were luxury and splendor have perished from you, and you will never ever find them again.

¹¹ The name of the first is Pishon; this is the one which goes around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;

⁷ And an angel of God found her by a spring of water in the desert, by the spring on the way to Shur.

¹⁸ They lived from Havilah to Shur, which is near Egypt, all the way to Asshur. He settled near all his kinsmen.

²² Moses led Israel onward from the Sea at the End, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water.

⁴⁸ And he did valiantly, and struck the Amalekites, and delivered Israel out of the hand of its plunderers.

⁸ David and his men went up, and made a raid on the Geshurites, and the Girzites, and the Amalekites. And look, the land was inhabited from Telem, going in the direction of Shur, as far as the land of Egypt.

³⁰ that the evil man is reserved to the day of calamity, That they are led forth to the day of wrath?

¹³ But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he lengthen days like a shadow; because he doesn't fear God.

⁷ Water shall flow from his buckets. His seed shall be in many waters. His king shall be higher than Agag. His kingdom shall be exalted.

³⁹ He took it, with its king and all its cities. They struck them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed all the souls who were in it. He left none remaining. As he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir, and to its king; as he had done also to Libnah, and to its king.

¹² Joshua captured all the cities of those kings, with their kings, and he struck them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed them; as Moses the servant of the LORD commanded.

³ Now go and strike Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and do not spare them; but kill both man and woman, infant and nursing baby, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.'"

⁸ David and his men went up, and made a raid on the Geshurites, and the Girzites, and the Amalekites. And look, the land was inhabited from Telem, going in the direction of Shur, as far as the land of Egypt. ⁹ David struck the land, and saved neither man nor woman alive, and took away the sheep, and the cattle, and the donkeys, and the camels, and the clothing; and he returned, and came to Achish.

¹ It happened, when David and his men had come to Ziklag on the third day, that Amalek had made a raid on the Negev, and on Ziklag, and had struck Ziklag, and burned it with fire,

³⁰ But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and the wall fell on twenty-seven thousand men who were left. Ben Hadad fled, and came into the city, into an inner room.

³⁴ Ben Hadad said to him, "The cities which my father took from your father I will restore. You shall make streets for yourself in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria." "I," said Ahab, "will let you go with this covenant." So he made a covenant with him, and let him go. ³⁵ A certain man of the sons of the prophets said to his fellow by the word of the LORD, "Please strike me." The man refused to strike him. ³⁶ Then he said to him, "Because you have not obeyed the voice of the LORD, look, as soon as you are departed from me, a lion shall kill you." As soon as he was departed from him, a lion found him, and killed him. ³⁷ Then he found another man, and said, "Please strike me." The man struck him, smiting and wounding him. ³⁸ So the prophet departed, and waited for the king by the way, and disguised himself with his headband over his eyes. ³⁹ As the king passed by, he cried to the king; and he said, "Your servant went out into the midst of the battle; and look, a man turned aside, and brought a man to me, and said, 'Guard this man. If by any means he be missing, then your life shall be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.' ⁴⁰ As your servant was busy here and there, he was gone." The king of Israel said to him, "So your judgment shall be; you yourself have decided it." ⁴¹ He hurried, and took the headband away from his eyes; and the king of Israel recognized that he was of the prophets. ⁴² He said to him, "Thus says the LORD, 'Because you have let go out of your hand the man whom I had devoted to destruction, therefore your life shall go for his life, and your people for his people.'"

¹ After these things King Achashyerosh promoted Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him, and set his seat above all the officials who were with him.

²¹ When I saw among the spoil a beautiful garment from Shinar, two hundred shekels of silver, and a bar of gold weighing fifty shekels, then I coveted them and took them. Look, they are hidden in the ground in the middle of my tent, with the silver under it."

¹⁵ And Saul said, "I have brought them from Amalek; for the people spared the best of the sheep and the cattle to sacrifice to the LORD your God, and I have utterly destroyed the rest."

¹⁹ Why then did you not obey the voice of the LORD, but took the spoils, and did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD?"

¹³ And it was so, that, when those who bore the ark of the LORD had gone six steps, he sacrificed an ox and a fattened calf.

⁶ God was sorry that he had made humankind on the earth, and he was grieved in his heart.

¹⁶ "Thus says the whole congregation of the LORD, 'What trespass is this that you have committed against the God of Israel, to turn away this day from following the LORD, in that you have built you an altar, to rebel this day against the LORD?

²³ Moreover as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will instruct you in the good and the right way.

⁹ But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and the cattle, and the fat ones and the lambs, and all that was good, and wouldn't utterly destroy them; but everything that was despised and rejected, that they utterly destroyed.

³⁵ And Samuel did not see Saul again until the day of his death; for Samuel mourned for Saul. And the LORD grieved that he had made Saul king over Israel.

¹⁶ When the angel stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD relented of the disaster, and said to the angel who destroyed the people, "It is enough. Now stay your hand." The angel of the LORD was by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite. And David lifted up his eyes and saw the angel of the LORD standing between earth and the sky, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell down on their faces.

⁶ But if you turn away from following me, you or your children, and not keep my commandments and my statutes which I have set before you, but shall go and serve other gods, and worship them; ⁷ then will I cut off Israel out of the land which I have given them; and this house, which I have made holy for my name, will I cast out of my sight; and Israel shall be a proverb and a byword among all peoples.

³ The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit. He has ceased to be wise and to do good.

⁴¹ They turned again and tempted God, and gave pain to the Holy One of Israel.

⁵⁷ but turned back, and dealt treacherously like their fathers. They were turned aside like a deceitful bow.

⁴ In return for my love, they are my adversaries; but I am in prayer.

⁴ The LORD has sworn, and will not change his mind: "You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek."

¹³⁶ Streams of tears run down my eyes, because they do not observe your Law.

⁵ But as for those who turn aside to their crooked ways, The LORD will lead them away with evildoers. Peace be on Israel.

¹ Oh that my head were waters, and my eyes a spring of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people.

¹⁸ "and let them make haste, and take up a wailing for us, that our eyes may run down with tears, and our eyelids gush out with waters.

¹⁷ But if you will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret for your pride; and my eye shall weep bitterly, and run down with tears, because the LORD's flock is taken captive."

⁷ At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up and to break down and to destroy it; ⁸ if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, turn from their evil, I will change my mind about the disaster that I thought to do to them. ⁹ At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it; ¹⁰ if they do that which is evil in my sight, that they not obey my voice, then I will repent of the good, with which I said I would benefit them.

³ The LORD relented concerning this. "It shall not be," says the LORD.

¹⁰ God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way. God relented of the disaster which he said he would do to them, and he did not do it.

² He prayed to the LORD, and said, "Please, LORD, wasn't this what I said when I was still in my own country? Therefore I hurried to flee to Tarshish, for I knew that you are a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, and you relent of doing harm.

⁶ those who have turned back from following the LORD, and those who haven't sought the LORD nor inquired after him.

⁴⁴ But I tell you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you,

¹³ But he who endures to the end, the same will be saved.

¹² It happened in these days, that he went out to the mountain to pray, and he continued all night in prayer to God.

⁴¹ When he drew near, he saw the city and wept over it, ⁴² saying, "If you, even you, had known today the things that make for peace. But now, they are hidden from your eyes. ⁴³ For the days will come on you, when your enemies will throw up a barricade against you, surround you, hem you in on every side, ⁴⁴ and will dash you and your children within you to the ground. They will not leave in you one stone on another, because you did not know the time of your visitation."

¹ I tell the truth in Christ. I am not lying, my conscience testifying with me in the Holy Spirit, ² that I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. ³ For I could wish that I myself were accursed from Christ for my brothers' sake, my physical relatives according to the flesh,

³⁸ But the righteous will live by faith, and if he holds back, my soul has no pleasure in him."

⁸ The children of Israel did as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the middle of the Jordan, as the LORD spoke to Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel; and they carried them over with them to the place where they lodged, and laid them down there. ⁹ Joshua set up twelve stones in the middle of the Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests who bore the ark of the covenant stood; and they are there to this day.

¹² Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpah and Jashan, and called its name Ebenezer, saying, "The LORD helped us until now."

² There was a man in Maon, whose possessions were in Carmel; and the man was very great, and he had three thousand sheep, and a thousand goats: and he was shearing his sheep in Carmel.

¹⁸ Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and reared up for himself the pillar, which is in the King's Valley; for he said, "I have no son to keep my name in memory." He called the pillar after his own name; and it is called Absalom's monument, to this day.

⁴² So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he bowed himself down toward the ground, and put his face between his knees.

¹² The man said, "The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate."

¹⁹ He blessed him, and said, "Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Maker of heaven and earth:

² And he said to his mother, "The eleven hundred pieces of silver that were taken from you, about which you uttered a curse, and also spoke it in my ears, look, the silver is with me; I took it, but now I will restore it to you." And his mother said, "Blessed be my son by the LORD."

¹⁰ He said, "Blessed are you by the LORD, my daughter. You have shown more kindness in the latter end than at the beginning, inasmuch as you didn't follow young men, whether poor or rich.

¹⁰ It came to pass that as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, look, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might greet him.

¹¹ "It grieves me that I have made Saul king; for he has turned back from following me, and has not carried out my commandments." And Samuel was angry; and he cried to the LORD all night.

² Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips.

¹³ He who conceals his sins doesn't prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

¹³ There is a generation, oh how lofty are their eyes. Their eyelids are lifted up.

³¹ Give her of the fruit of her hands. Let her works praise her in the gates.

¹⁰ Even so you also, when you have done all the things that are commanded you, say, 'We are unworthy servants. We have done our duty.'"

¹¹ The Pharisee stood and prayed to himself like this: 'God, I thank you, that I am not like other people, extortioners, unrighteous, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.

² For he flatters himself in his own eyes, too much to detect and hate his sin.

¹⁶ But to the wicked God says, "What right do you have to declare my statutes, that you have taken my covenant on your lips, ¹⁷ seeing you hate instruction, and throw my words behind you? ¹⁸ When you saw a thief, you consented with him, and have participated with adulterers. ¹⁹ "You give your mouth to evil. Your tongue frames deceit. ²⁰ You sit and speak against your brother. You slander your own mother's son. ²¹ You have done these things, and I kept silent. You thought that I was just like you. I will rebuke you, and accuse you in front of your eyes.

¹⁸ Now what have you to do in the way to Egypt, to drink the waters of the Shihor? Or what have you to do in the way to Assyria, to drink the waters of the River? ¹⁹ "Your own wickedness shall correct you, and your backsliding shall reprove you. Know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter that you have forsaken the LORD your God, and that my fear is not in you," says the Lord, GOD of hosts.

²² For though you wash yourself with lye, and use much soap, yet your iniquity is marked before me," says the Lord GOD. ²³ "How can you say, 'I am not defiled. I have not gone after the Baals'? See your way in the valley. Know what you have done. You are a swift dromedary traversing her ways;

³⁴ Also the blood of the souls of the innocent poor is found in your skirts. You did not find them breaking in; but it is because of all these things. ³⁵ "Yet you said, 'I am innocent. Surely his anger has turned away from me.' "Look, I will judge you, because you say, 'I have not sinned.' ³⁶ Why do you go about so much to change your way? You will be ashamed of Egypt also, as you were ashamed of Assyria. ³⁷ From there also you shall go forth, with your hands on your head; for the LORD has rejected those in whom you trust, and you shall not prosper with them.

¹³ "Your words have been stout against me," says the LORD. "Yet you say, 'What have we spoken against you?' ¹⁴ You have said, 'It is vain to serve God;' and 'What profit is it that we have followed his instructions, and that we have walked mournfully before the LORD of hosts? ¹⁵ Now we call the proud blessed; indeed, evildoers prosper. They even tempt God and escape.'

²² "He said to him, 'Out of your own mouth will I judge you, you wicked servant. You knew that I am an exacting man, taking up that which I did not lay down, and reaping that which I did not sow.

¹⁹ Now we know that whatever things the law says, it speaks to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be closed, and all the world may be brought under the judgment of God.

⁵ Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each one will get his praise from God.

¹² The man said, "The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate." ¹³ Then God said to the woman, "What is this you have done?" The woman said, "The serpent deceived me, and I ate."

²² Aaron said, "Do not let the anger of my lord grow hot. You know the people, that they are set on evil. ²³ For they said to me, 'Make us gods, which shall go before us; for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.'

²¹ But the people took of the spoil, sheep and cattle, the chief of the devoted things, to sacrifice to the LORD your God in Gilgal."

³³ if like Adam I have covered my transgressions, by hiding my iniquity in my heart,

⁸ And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, "Go and search diligently for the young child, and when you have found him, bring me word, so that I also may come and worship him."

²⁹ But he, desiring to justify himself, asked Jesus, "Who is my neighbor?"

²⁷ As they were going down at the edge of the city, Samuel said to Saul, "Tell the servant that he should pass on before us and cross over. But you remain here awhile, that I may make known to you the word of God."

⁷ Now therefore stand still, that I may plead with you before the LORD and will recount for you all the righteous acts of the LORD, which he did to you and to your fathers.

¹⁶ The king said to him, "How many times do I have to adjure you that you speak to me nothing but the truth in the name of the LORD?"

¹⁵ He said to him, "O Lord, how shall I save Israel? Look, my family is the poorest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father's house."

²¹ Saul answered, "Am I not a Benjamite, of the smallest of the tribes of Israel? And my family the least of all the families of the tribe of Benjamin? Why then do you speak to me like this?"

²² Therefore they asked of the LORD further, "Is there a man yet to come here?" The LORD answered, "Look, he has hidden himself among the baggage."

¹ Samuel said to Saul, "The LORD sent me to anoint you to be king over his people, over Israel. Now therefore listen to the voice of the words of the LORD. ² Thus says the LORD of hosts, 'I will punish Amalek for what he did to Israel, how he set himself against him in the way, when he came up out of Egypt. ³ Now go and strike Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and do not spare them; but kill both man and woman, infant and nursing baby, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.'"

¹ When Ephraim spoke, there was trembling. He exalted himself in Israel, but when he became guilty in Baal, he died.

⁴ Whoever therefore humbles himself as this little child, the same is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

¹³ Now the people of Sodom were evil, sinning greatly against God.

¹⁶ In the fourth generation they will come here again, for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete."

³⁸ even the censers of these sinners against their own lives; and let them be made beaten plates for a covering of the altar: for they offered them before the LORD; therefore they are holy; and they shall be a sign to the children of Israel."

³ Is it not calamity for the unrighteous, and disaster for evildoers?

²⁹ The way of the LORD is a stronghold to the upright, but it is a destruction to evildoers.

²¹ Misfortune pursues sinners, but prosperity rewards the righteous.

³² and the people pounced upon the spoil, and took sheep, and cattle, and calves, and killed them on the ground; and the people ate them with the blood.

² He did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, after the abominations of the nations whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.

⁶ He also made his children to pass through the fire in the Valley of Ben Hinnom; and he practiced sorcery, divination, and witchcraft, and consulted mediums, and spiritists: he worked much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.

¹² and he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD his God; he did not humble himself before Jeremiah the prophet speaking from the mouth of the LORD.

²⁷ He who is greedy for gain troubles his own house, but he who hates bribes will live.

¹¹ Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Look, I, even I, have seen it, says the LORD.

⁹ Woe to him who gets an evil gain for his house, that he may set his nest on high, that he may be delivered from the hand of evil. ¹⁰ You have devised shame to your house, by cutting off many peoples, and have sinned against your soul. ¹¹ For the stone will cry out of the wall, and the beam out of the woodwork will answer it. ¹² Woe to him who builds a town with blood, and establishes a city by iniquity.

¹⁰ for Demas left me, having loved this present world, and went to Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, and Titus to Dalmatia.

⁸ He took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.

¹³ And Samuel came to Saul; and Saul said to him, "You are blessed by the LORD. I have performed the commandment of the LORD."

⁹ 'I am clean, without disobedience. I am innocent, neither is there iniquity in me.

⁵ For Job has said, 'I am righteous, God has taken away my right:

² "Do you think this to be your right, or do you say, 'My righteousness is more than God's,'

⁸ Will you even annul my judgment? Will you condemn me, that you may be justified?

²⁰ The young man said to him, "All these things I have kept. What do I still lack?"

³ For being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God.

¹³ Then God said to the woman, "What is this you have done?" The woman said, "The serpent deceived me, and I ate."

⁵ Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice, and keep my covenant, then you shall be my own possession from among all peoples; for all the earth is mine;

⁶ Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me. Whole burnt offering and sin offering you did not require. ⁷ Then I said, "Look, I have come. It is written about me in the scroll of a book; ⁸ to do your will, O God, I desired. And your Law is within my heart."

⁸ I do not rebuke you for your sacrifices. Your burnt offerings are continually before me. ⁹ I have no need for a bull from your stall, nor male goats from your pens.

¹⁶ For you do not delight in sacrifice, or else I would give it. You have no pleasure in burnt offering. ¹⁷ The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit. A broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

³ To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.

¹ Guard your step when you go to the house of God. To draw near to listen is better than to give the sacrifice of fools, for they do not know that they do evil.

¹¹ "What are the multitude of your sacrifices to me?," says the LORD. "I have had enough of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed animals. I do not delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs, or of male goats. ¹² When you come to appear before me, who has required this at your hand, to trample my courts? ¹³ Bring no more vain offerings. Incense is an abomination to me; new moons, Sabbaths, and convocations: I can't bear with evil assemblies. ¹⁴ My soul hates your New Moons and your appointed feasts. They are a burden to me. I am weary of bearing them. ¹⁵ When you spread forth your hands, I will hide my eyes from you. Yes, when you make many prayers, I will not hear. Your hands are full of blood. ¹⁶ Wash yourselves, make yourself clean. Put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes. Cease to do evil. ¹⁷ Learn to do well. Seek justice. Relieve the oppressed. Judge the fatherless. Plead for the widow."

²² For I did not speak to your fathers, nor command them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices: ²³ but this thing I commanded them, saying, 'Listen to my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people; and walk in all the way that I command you, that it may be well with you.'

⁴ which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the iron furnace, saying, "Obey my voice, and do them, according to all which I command you: so you shall be my people, and I will be your God;

⁷ For I earnestly protested to your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even to this day, rising early and protesting, saying, Obey my voice.

¹³ Now therefore amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the LORD your God; and the LORD will relent of the disaster that he has pronounced against you.

⁶ For I desire mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.

²¹ I hate, I despise your feasts, and I can't stand your solemn assemblies. ²² Yes, though you offer me your burnt offerings and meal offerings, I will not accept them; neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat animals. ²³ Take away from me the noise of your songs. I will not listen to the music of your harps. ²⁴ But let justice roll on like rivers, and righteousness like a mighty stream.

⁶ How shall I come before the LORD, and bow myself before the exalted God? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old? ⁷ Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams? With tens of thousands of rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my disobedience? The fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? ⁸ He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does the LORD require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?

²⁴ leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.

¹³ But you go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,' for I came not to call the righteous, but sinners."

⁷ But if you had known what this means, 'I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,' you would not have condemned the innocent.

²³ "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites. For you tithe mint, dill, and cumin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the Law: justice, mercy, and faith. But you ought to have done these, and not to have left the other undone.

³³ and to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbor as himself, is more important than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices."

⁴ For it is impossible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins. ⁵ Therefore when he comes into the world, he says, "Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me. ⁶ Whole burnt offerings and sin-offerings you took no pleasure in. ⁷ Then I said, 'Look, I have come. It is written about me in the scroll of a book; to do your will, God.'" ⁸ Previously saying, "Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and sin-offerings you did not desire, nor took pleasure in” (which are offered according to the Law), ⁹ then he said, “Look, I have come to do your will.” He takes away the first, that he may establish the second, ¹⁰ by which will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

¹⁹ Now Laban had gone to shear his sheep, and Rachel stole the idols that belonged to her father.

³⁴ Now Rachel had taken the idols, put them in the camelʼs saddle, and sat on them. Laban searched the whole tent, but did not find them.

¹⁸ "You shall not allow a sorceress to live.

⁶ "'The person that turns to spirits of the dead, and to familiar spirits, to prostitute himself with them, I will even set my face against that person, and will cut him off from among his people.

²⁷ "'A man or a woman that is a medium, or is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones; their blood shall be upon them.'"

⁹ Only do not rebel against the LORD, neither fear the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defense is removed from over them, and the LORD is with us. Do not fear them."

⁷ Remember, do not forget, how you provoked the LORD your God to wrath in the wilderness: from the day that you went forth out of the land of Egypt, until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against the LORD.

²⁴ You have been rebellious against the LORD from the day that I knew you.

¹⁰ There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, one who practices divination, or tells fortunes, or interprets omens, or a sorcerer, ¹¹ or who casts spells, or consults a medium or a familiar spirit, or inquires of the dead.

¹⁶ "Thus says the whole congregation of the LORD, 'What trespass is this that you have committed against the God of Israel, to turn away this day from following the LORD, in that you have built you an altar, to rebel this day against the LORD? ¹⁷ Is the iniquity of Peor too little for us, from which we have not cleansed ourselves to this day, although there came a plague on the congregation of the LORD, ¹⁸ that you must turn away this day from following the LORD? It will be, seeing that you rebel today against the LORD, that tomorrow he will be angry with the whole congregation of Israel. ¹⁹ However, if the land of your possession is unclean, then pass over to the land of the possession of the LORD, in which the LORD's tabernacle dwells, and take possession among us; but do not rebel against the LORD, nor rebel against us, in building an altar other than the altar of the LORD our God.

³⁰ "Therefore the LORD, the God of Israel, says, 'I said indeed that your house, and the house of your father, should walk before me forever.' But now the LORD says, 'Be it far from me; for those who honor me I will honor, and those who despise me shall be lightly esteemed.

¹⁴ If you will fear the LORD, and serve him, and listen to his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of the LORD, and both you and also the king who reigns over you are followers of the LORD your God, then he will rescue you. ¹⁵ But if you will not listen to the voice of the LORD, but rebel against the commandment of the LORD, then the hand of the LORD will be against you, and against your king to destroy you.

¹⁴ But now your kingdom shall not continue. The LORD has sought for himself a man after his own heart, and the LORD has appointed him to be prince over his people, because you have not kept that which the LORD commanded you."

¹ The LORD said to Samuel, "How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite; for I have provided a king for myself among his sons."

¹⁵ They rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified to them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and followed the nations that were around them, concerning whom the LORD had commanded them that they should not do like them. ¹⁶ They forsook all the commandments of the LORD their God, and made them molten images, even two calves, and made an Asherah, and worshiped all the host of heaven, and served Baal. ¹⁷ They caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, practiced divination and sorcery, and sold themselves to do that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger. ¹⁸ Therefore the LORD was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight: there was none left but the tribe of Judah only. ¹⁹ Also Judah did not keep the commandments of the LORD their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they made. ²⁰ The LORD rejected all the descendants of Israel, and afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of plunderers, until he had cast them out of his sight.

⁹ You, Solomon my son, know the God of your father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind; for the LORD searches all hearts, and understands all the imaginations of the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will cast you off forever.

³⁷ For he adds rebellion to his sin. He claps his hands among us, and multiplies his words against God."

¹¹ because they rebelled against the words of God, and condemned the counsel of the Most High.

¹⁹ When they tell you, "Consult with the spirits of the dead and familiar spirits who chirp and who mutter. Shouldn't a people consult with their gods, by consulting the dead on behalf of the living?"

³ The spirit of Egypt will fail in its midst. I will destroy its counsel. They will seek the idols, spirits of the dead, mediums, and spiritists.

¹⁶ Therefore thus says the LORD, 'Look, I will send you away from off the surface of the earth: this year you shall die, because you have spoken rebellion against the LORD.'"

³² therefore," thus says the LORD, "Look, I will punish Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his offspring; he shall not have a man to dwell among this people, neither shall he see the good that I will do to my people, says the LORD, because he has spoken rebellion against the LORD."'"

⁵ They, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear, (for they are a rebellious house), yet shall know that there has been a prophet among them. ⁶ You, son of man, do not be afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns are with you, and you do dwell among scorpions: do not be afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they are a rebellious house. ⁷ You shall speak my words to them, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear; for they are most rebellious. ⁸ But you, son of man, hear what I tell you; do not be rebellious like that rebellious house: open your mouth, and eat that which I give you."

¹⁶ What agreement has a temple of God with idols? For we are a temple of the living God. Even as God said, "I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they will be my people."

²⁰ idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousies, outbursts of anger, rivalries, divisions, heresies,

⁸ But to the cowards, and unbelieving, and detestable, and murderers, and sexually immoral, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death."

¹⁵ Outside are the dogs, the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.

¹⁷ To Adam he said, "Because you have listened to your wife's voice, and have eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you, saying, 'You shall not eat of it,' cursed is the ground for your sake. In toil you will eat of it all the days of your life.

²⁷ Pharaoh sent, and called for Moses and Aaron, and said to them, "I have sinned this time. The LORD is righteous, and I and my people are wicked.

¹⁶ Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in haste, and he said, "I have sinned against the LORD your God, and against you.

² You shall not follow a crowd to do evil; neither shall you testify in court to side with a multitude to pervert justice;

³⁴ Balaam said to the angel of the LORD, "I have sinned; for I did not know that you stood in the way against me. Now therefore, if it displeases you, I will go back again."

²⁹ Why do you look down on my sacrifice and on my offering, which I have commanded for my dwelling place, and honor your sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the best of all the offerings of Israel my people?'

³⁰ Then he said, "I have sinned: yet please honor me now before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and come back with me, that I may worship the LORD your God."

¹³ David said to Nathan, "I have sinned against the LORD." Nathan said to David, "The LORD also has put away your sin. You will not die.

³⁴ because I feared the great multitude, and the contempt of families terrified me, so that I kept silence, and did not go out of the door—

²⁵ The fear of man proves to be a snare, but whoever puts his trust in the LORD will be set on high.

¹² "I, even I, am he who comforts you: who are you, that you are afraid of man who shall die, and of the son of man who shall be made as grass; ¹³ and have forgotten the LORD your Maker, who stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth; and fear continually all the day because of the fury of the oppressor, when he makes ready to destroy? and where is the fury of the oppressor?

⁵ Zedekiah the king said, "Look, he is in your hand; for the king is not he who can do anything against you."

⁴ saying, "I have sinned in that I betrayed innocent blood." But they said, "What is that to us? You see to it."

²⁰ Then Pilate spoke to them again, wanting to release Jesus, ²¹ but they shouted, saying, "Crucify. Crucify him." ²² He said to them the third time, "Why? What evil has this man done? I have found no capital crime in him. I will therefore chastise him and release him." ²³ But they were urgent with loud voices, asking that he might be crucified. And their voices, and those of the chief priests, prevailed. ²⁴ Pilate decreed that what they asked for should be done. ²⁵ He released him who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, for whom they asked, but he delivered Jesus up to their will.

¹⁰ For am I now seeking the favor of people, or of God? Or am I striving to please people? For if I were still pleasing people, I would not be a servant of Christ.

¹⁷ Now therefore please forgive my sin again, and pray to the LORD your God, that he may also take away from me this death."

³⁸ But he said, "My son will not go down with you, for his brother is dead, and he alone is left. If harm should happen to him on the journey you are taking, then you will bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to Sheol."

¹¹ Then their father Israel said to them, "If it must be so, then do this: Take some of the best fruits of the land in your bags and bring a gift for the man, a little balm, a little honey, spices and myrrh, pistachio nuts and almonds. ¹² Take twice as much silver in your hand, and take back the silver that was returned in the mouth of your sacks. Perhaps it was an oversight. ¹³ Take your brother also, and get up, go back to the man. ¹⁴ And may El Shaddai grant you mercy before the man, that he may release to you your other brother and Benjamin. If I am deprived of my children, then I am deprived."

²³ For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as idolatry and teraphim. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has also rejected you from being king."

²⁷ The God of old is a dwelling place. Underneath are the everlasting arms. He thrust out the enemy from before you, and said, 'Destroy.'

¹¹ Yours, LORD, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. For all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, LORD, and you are exalted as head above all.

¹¹ The LORD will give strength to his people. The LORD will bless his people with peace.

³⁵ You are awesome, God, in your sanctuaries. The God of Israel gives strength and power to his people. Praise be to God.

¹¹ Therefore I swore in my wrath, "They won't enter into my rest."

²⁴ Only in the LORD, it is said of me, is righteousness and strength; even to him shall men come; and all those who were incensed against him shall be disappointed.

¹⁴ I, the LORD, have spoken it: it shall happen, and I will do it: I will not go back, neither will I spare, neither will I repent; according to your ways and according to your deeds I will judge you,' says the Lord GOD."

¹⁶ The LORD will roar from Zion, and thunder from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth will shake; but the LORD will be a refuge to his people, and a stronghold to the children of Israel.

⁹ He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness." Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me.

¹³ I can do all things through him who strengthens me.

¹³ If we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny himself."

² in hope of everlasting life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began;

¹⁸ that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have a strong encouragement, who have fled for refuge to take hold of the hope set before us.

¹³ And the Lord said, "Because these people draw near with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but they have removed their heart far from me. And in vain do they worship me, teaching instructions that are the commandments of humans.

⁴ Look, if he holds back, my soul has no pleasure in him, but the righteous will live by faith.

¹⁰ Cursed is he who does the work of the LORD negligently; and cursed is he who keeps back his sword from blood.

² For with whatever judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with whatever measure you measure, it will be measured to you.

¹³ For judgment is without mercy to him who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

⁶ For they poured out the blood of the saints and the prophets, and you have given them blood to drink. They deserve this."

⁶ Return to her just as she returned, and repay her double as she did, and according to her works. In the cup which she mixed, mix to her double.

¹⁸ For many, of whom I have often told you, and now tell you with tears, live as enemies of the cross of Christ,
