¹ Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants to Solomon; for he had heard that they had anointed him king in the place of his father: for Hiram was ever a lover of David. ² Solomon sent to Hiram, saying, ³ "You know how that David my father could not build a house for the name of the LORD his God for the wars which were about him on every side, until the LORD put them under the soles of his feet. ⁴ But now the LORD my God has given me rest on every side. There is neither adversary, nor evil occurrence. ⁵ Look, I purpose to build a house for the name of the LORD my God, as the LORD spoke to David my father, saying, 'Your son, whom I will set on your throne in your place, he shall build the house for my name.' ⁶ Now therefore command that they cut me cedar trees out of Lebanon. My servants shall be with your servants; and I will give you wages for your servants according to all that you shall say. For you know that there is not among us any who knows how to cut timber like the Sidonians." ⁷ It happened, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, "Blessed is the LORD this day, who has given to David a wise son over this great people." ⁸ Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, "I have heard the message which you have sent to me. I will satisfy all your desire concerning cedar wood and concerning the wood of evergreens. ⁹ My servants shall bring them down from Lebanon to the sea. I will make them into rafts to go by sea to the place that you shall appoint me, and will cause them to be broken up there, and you shall receive them. You shall accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household." ¹⁰ So Hiram gave Solomon timber of cedar and timber of fir according to all his desire. ¹¹ Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand cors of wheat for food to his household, and twenty thousand baths of pure oil. Solomon gave this to Hiram year by year. ¹² The LORD gave Solomon wisdom, as he promised him; and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon; and the two of them made a covenant. ¹³ King Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men. ¹⁴ He sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses; a month they were in Lebanon, and two months at home; and Adoniram was over the men subject to forced labor. ¹⁵ Solomon had seventy thousand who bore burdens, and eighty thousand who were stone cutters in the mountains; ¹⁶ besides Solomon's chief officers who were over the work, three thousand and six hundred, who bore rule over the people who labored in the work. ¹⁷ The king commanded, and they cut out great stones, costly stones, to lay the foundation of the house with worked stone. ¹⁸ Solomon's builders and Hiram's builders and the Gebalites cut them, and prepared the timber and the stones to build the house.

¹¹ Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, and craftsmen of wood, and craftsmen of a wall; and they built David a palace.

¹⁰ then Toi sent Hadoram his son to king David, to greet him, and to bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer and struck him: for Hadadezer had wars with Toi. And he brought with him vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and vessels of bronze.

¹ It happened after this, that the king of the people of Ammon died, and Hanun his son reigned in his place. ² David said, "I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father showed kindness to me." So David sent by his servants to comfort him concerning his father. David's servants came into the land of the people of Ammon.

¹⁰ So Hiram gave Solomon timber of cedar and timber of fir according to all his desire.

¹³ King Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty thousand men.

¹² Hiram came out from Tyre to see the cities which Solomon had given him; and they did not please him. ¹³ He said, "What cities are these which you have given me, my brother?" He called them the land of Cabul to this day. ¹⁴ Hiram sent to the king one hundred twenty talents of gold.

³ Solomon sent to Hiram the king of Tyre, saying, "As you dealt with David my father, and sent him cedars to build him a house in which to dwell, so deal with me.

¹² The daughter of Tyre comes with a gift. The rich among the people will seek your favor.

⁹ Thus says the LORD: "For three transgressions of Tyre, yes, for four, I will not turn away its punishment; because they delivered up the whole community to Edom, and did not remember the brotherly covenant;

²⁴ It happened, when they brought those kings out to Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said to the chiefs of the men of war who went with him, "Come near, put your feet on the necks of these kings." They came near, and put their feet on their necks.

⁵ "Go and tell my servant David, 'Thus says the LORD, "Shall you build me a house for me to dwell in? ⁶ For I have not lived in a house since the day that I brought up the children of Israel out of Egypt, even to this day, but have moved around in a tent and in a tabernacle. ⁷ In all places in which I have walked throughout Israel, did I say a word to any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to be shepherd of my people Israel, saying, 'Why have you not built me a house of cedar?'"' ⁸ Now therefore you shall tell my servant David this, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, "I took you from the sheep pen, from following the sheep, that you should be prince over my people Israel. ⁹ I have been with you wherever you went, and have cut off all your enemies from before you. I will make you a great name, like the name of the great ones who are in the earth. ¹⁰ I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place, and be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as at the first, ¹¹ and from the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. I will cause you to rest from all your enemies. Moreover the LORD tells you that he will build you a house.

⁴ and cedar trees without number: for the Sidonians and they of Tyre brought cedar trees in abundance to David. ⁵ David said, "Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be built for the LORD must be exceedingly magnificent, of fame and of glory throughout all countries. I will therefore make preparation for it." So David prepared abundantly before his death. ⁶ Then he called for Solomon his son, and commanded him to build a house for the LORD, the God of Israel.

⁸ But the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 'You have shed blood abundantly, and have made great wars. You shall not build a house to my name, because you have shed much blood on the earth in my sight.

³ But God said to me, 'You shall not build a house for my name, because you are a man of war, and have shed blood.'

⁶ but I chose Jerusalem, that my name may be there; and I chose David to be over my people Israel.' ⁷ Now it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of the LORD, the God of Israel. ⁸ But the LORD said to David my father, 'Whereas it was in your heart to build a house for my name, you did well that it was in your heart:

⁶ and you made him ruler over the works of your hands. You have put all things under his feet:

¹ [A Psalm by David.] The LORD says to my Lord, "Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet."

³ You shall tread down the wicked; for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I make," says the LORD of hosts.

²⁵ For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.

²² He put all things under his feet, and gave him to be head over all things for the church,

²⁴ For he had dominion over all on this side the River, from Tiphsah even to Gaza, over all the kings on this side the River: and he had peace on all sides around him.

⁹ Look, a son shall be born to you, who shall be a man of rest. I will give him rest from all his enemies all around; for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness to Israel in his days.

⁷ In his days, the righteous shall flourish, and abundance of peace, until the moon is no more.

⁷ Of the increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end, on the throne of David, and on his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from that time on, even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

³¹ So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace, and were built up. They were multiplied, walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit.

¹² And it will come about when your days are fulfilled, and you sleep with your fathers, that I will raise up your descendant after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. ¹³ He will build a house for my name, and I will establish his throne forever.

¹ Now Solomon purposed to build a house for the name of the LORD, and a house for his kingdom. ² Solomon counted out seventy thousand men to bear burdens, and eighty thousand men who were stone cutters in the mountains, and three thousand and six hundred to oversee them. ³ Solomon sent to Hiram the king of Tyre, saying, "As you dealt with David my father, and sent him cedars to build him a house in which to dwell, so deal with me. ⁴ Look, I am about to build a house for the name of the LORD my God, to dedicate it to him, and to burn before him incense of sweet spices, and for the continual show bread, and for the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the Sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the set feasts of the LORD our God. This is an ordinance forever to Israel. ⁵ "The house which I build is great; for our God is great above all gods. ⁶ But who is able to build him a house, since heaven and the heaven of heavens can't contain him? Who am I then, that I should build him a house, except just to burn incense before him? ⁷ "Now therefore send me a man skillful to work in gold, and in silver, and in bronze, and in iron, and in purple, and crimson, and blue, and who knows how to engrave engravings, to be with the skillful men who are with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom David my father provided. ⁸ "Send me also cedar trees, fir trees, and algum trees, out of Lebanon; for I know that your servants know how to cut timber in Lebanon: and look, my servants shall be with your servants,

¹² and speak to him, saying, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, "Look, the man whose name is the Branch: and he shall grow up out of his place; and he shall build the temple of the LORD; ¹³ even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule on his throne; and he shall be a priest on his throne; and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.

¹⁵ And Canaan became the father of Sidon, his firstborn, and Heth,

⁹ So he built the house, and finished it; and he covered the house with beams and planks of cedar. ¹⁰ He built the stories against all the house, each eight feet and seven inches high: and they rested on the house with timber of cedar.

¹⁶ He built thirty-four feet and five inches on the back part of the house with boards of cedar from the floor to the beams, and he built this within as an inner sanctuary, the most holy place.

²⁰ And before the sanctuary was thirty-four feet and five inches in length, and thirty-four feet and five inches in breadth, and thirty-four feet and five inches in its height; and he overlaid it with pure gold. And he made the altar of cedar.

⁸ "Send me also cedar trees, fir trees, and algum trees, out of Lebanon; for I know that your servants know how to cut timber in Lebanon: and look, my servants shall be with your servants,

¹⁰ Look, I will give to your servants, the cutters who cut timber, twenty thousand measures of beaten wheat, and twenty thousand measures of barley, and twenty thousand baths of wine, and twenty thousand baths of oil."

⁷ They also gave money to the masons, and to the carpenters. They also gave food, drink, and oil to the people of Sidon and Tyre, to bring cedar trees from Lebanon to the sea, to Joppa, according to the grant that they had from Koresh King of Persia.

⁵ The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars. Yes, the LORD breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon.

¹⁷ Repay no one evil for evil. Respect what is honorable in the sight of all people.

¹⁴ For the body is not one member, but many. ¹⁵ If the foot would say, "Because I'm not the hand, I'm not part of the body," it is not therefore not part of the body. ¹⁶ If the ear would say, "Because I'm not the eye, I'm not part of the body," it's not therefore not part of the body. ¹⁷ If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole were hearing, where would the smelling be? ¹⁸ But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body, just as he desired. ¹⁹ If they were all one member, where would the body be? ²⁰ But now they are many members, but one body. ²¹ The eye cannot tell the hand, "I have no need for you," or again the head to the feet, "I have no need for you."

⁷ But to each one of us was the grace given according to the measure of the gift of Christ. ⁸ Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think on these things.

⁵ And he looked up and saw the women and the children, and said, "Who are these with you?" He said, "The children whom God has graciously given your servant."

⁴⁸ Also thus said the king, 'Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who has given one to sit on my throne this day, my eyes even seeing it.'"

⁹ Give your servant therefore an understanding heart to judge your people, that I may discern between good and evil; for who is able to judge this your great people?"

⁹ Blessed is the LORD your God, who delighted in you, to set you on the throne of Israel. Because of the LORD's everlasting love for Israel, therefore he made you king, to do justice and righteousness."

¹¹ Then Hiram the king of Tyre answered in writing, which he sent to Solomon, "Because the LORD loves his people, he has made you king over them." ¹² Hiram continued, "Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, that made heaven and earth, who has given to David the king a wise son, endowed with discretion and understanding, that should build a house for the LORD, and a house for his kingdom.

⁷ Happy are your wives, and happy are these your servants, who stand continually before you, and hear your wisdom. ⁸ Blessed be the LORD your God, who delighted in you, to set you on his throne, to be king for the LORD your God: because your God loved Israel, to establish them forever, therefore he made you king over them, to do justice and righteousness."

⁶ Pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Those who love you will prosper. ⁷ Peace be within your walls, and prosperity within your palaces.

⁶ Let my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth if I do not remember you; if I do not prefer Jerusalem above my chief joy.

¹ The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son makes a glad father; but a foolish son brings grief to his mother.

¹ A wise son listens to his father's instruction, but a scoffer doesn't listen to rebuke.

²⁰ A wise son makes a father glad, but a foolish man despises his mother.

²⁴ The father of the righteous has great joy. Whoever fathers a wise child delights in him.

¹⁸ Look, I and the children whom God has given me are for signs and wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, who dwells on Mount Zion.

⁶ For to us a child is born. To us a son is given; and the government will be on his shoulders, and his name is called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

⁵ And David and all the children of Israel played before the LORD with all their strength and with songs, and with harps, and with stringed instruments, and with tambourines, and with castanets, and with cymbals.

¹⁵ He built the walls of the house within with boards of cedar: from the floor of the house to the walls of the ceiling, he covered them on the inside with wood; and he covered the floor of the house with boards of fir.

³⁴ and two doors of fir wood: the two leaves of the one door were folding, and the two leaves of the other door were folding.

⁵ The greater house he made a ceiling with fir wood, which he overlaid with fine gold, and ornamented it with palm trees and chains.

²⁵ Please let me go over and see the good land that is beyond the Jordan, that good hill country, and Lebanon."

¹⁵ The king made silver and gold to be in Jerusalem as stones, and cedars made he to be as the sycamore trees that are in the lowland, for abundance.

¹⁶ and we will cut wood out of Lebanon, as much as you shall need; and we will bring it to you in floats by sea to Joppa; and you shall carry it up to Jerusalem."

¹⁷ Judah, and the land of Israel, they were your traffickers: they traded for your merchandise wheat of Minnith, and confections, and honey, and oil, and balm.

²⁰ Now Herod was very angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon. They came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus, the king's personal aide, their friend, they asked for peace, because their country depended on the king's country for food.

²² Solomon's provision for one day was thirty measures of fine flour, and sixty measures of meal,

³² So they made a covenant at Beersheba. Abimelech rose up with Phicol, the commander of his army, and they returned into the land of the Philistines.

¹² look, I have done according to your word. Look, I have given you a wise and an understanding heart; so that there has been none like you before you, neither after you shall any arise like you.

²⁹ God gave Solomon wisdom and exceptional insight, and very great understanding, even as the sand that is on the seashore.

¹⁹ "Let there be a treaty between me and you, between my father and your father. Look, I have sent to you a present of silver and gold. Go, break your treaty with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me."

⁵ But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without finding fault; and it will be given to him.

¹⁵ This is the reason of the levy which king Solomon raised, to build the house of the LORD, and his own house, and Millo, and the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, and Megiddo, and Gezer.

⁶ and Ahishar was over the palace; and Eliab son of Joab was over the army; and Adoniram the son of Abda was over the men subject to forced labor. ⁷ Solomon had twelve officers over all Israel, who provided food for the king and his household: each man had to make provision for a month in the year. ⁸ These are their names: Ben Hur, in the hill country of Ephraim; ⁹ Ben Deker, in Makaz, and in Shaalbim, and Beth Shemesh, and Elon Beth Hanan; ¹⁰ Ben Hesed, in Arubboth (to him belonged Socoh, and all the land of Hepher); ¹¹ Ben Abinadab, in all the height of Dor (he had Taphath the daughter of Solomon as wife); ¹² Baana the son of Ahilud, in Taanach and Megiddo, and all Beth Shean which is beside Zarethan, beneath Jezreel, from Beth Shean to Abel Meholah, as far as beyond Jokmeam; ¹³ Ben Geber, in Ramoth Gilead (to him belonged the towns of Jair the son of Manasseh, which are in Gilead; to him belonged the region of Argob, which is in Bashan, sixty great cities with walls and bronze bars); ¹⁴ Ahinadab the son of Iddo, in Mahanaim; ¹⁵ Ahimaaz, in Naphtali (he also took Basemath the daughter of Solomon as wife); ¹⁶ Baana the son of Hushai, in Asher and in Aloth; ¹⁷ Jehoshaphat the son of Paruah, in Issachar; ¹⁸ Shimei the son of Ela, in Benjamin; ¹⁹ Geber the son of Uri, in the land of Gilead, the country of Sihon king of the Amorites and of Og king of Bashan; and he was the only prefect in the land of Judah.

¹ Now the children of Israel after their number, the heads of ancestral houses and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and their officers who served the king, in any matter of the divisions which came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year—of every division were twenty-four thousand. ² Over the first division for the first month was Jeshbaal, son of Zabdiel: and in his division were twenty-four thousand. ³ He was of the descendants of Perez, the chief of all the captains of the army for the first month. ⁴ Over the division of the second month was Dodai the Ahohite, and his division; and Mikloth the ruler: and in his division were twenty-four thousand. ⁵ The third captain of the army for the third month was Benaiah, the son of Jehoiada the priest, chief: and in his division were twenty-four thousand. ⁶ This is that Benaiah, who was the mighty man of the Thirty, and over the Thirty: and of his division was Ammizabad his son. ⁷ The fourth for the fourth month was Asahel the brother of Joab, and Zebadiah his son after him: and in his division were twenty-four thousand. ⁸ The fifth captain for this fifth month was Shamhuth the Izrahite: and in his division were twenty-four thousand. ⁹ The sixth for the sixth month was Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite: and in his division were twenty-four thousand. ¹⁰ The seventh for the seventh month was Helez the Pelonite, of the people of Ephraim: and in his division were twenty-four thousand. ¹¹ The eighth for the eighth month was Sibbekai the Hushathite, of the Zerahites: and in his division were twenty-four thousand. ¹² The ninth for the ninth month was Abiezer the Anathothite, of the Benjamites: and in his division were twenty-four thousand. ¹³ The tenth for the tenth month was Maharai the Netophathite, of the Zerahites: and in his division were Twenty-four thousand. ¹⁴ The eleventh for the eleventh month was Benaiah the Pirathonite, of the people of Ephraim: and in his division were twenty-four thousand. ¹⁵ The twelfth for the twelfth month was Heldai the Netophathite, of Othniel: and in his division were twenty-four thousand.

²⁰ As for all the people who were left of the Amorites, the Hethites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, who were not of the children of Israel; ²¹ their descendants who were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel were not able utterly to destroy, of them Solomon conscripted for slave labor to this day. ²² But of the children of Israel Solomon made no bondservants; but they were the men of war, and his servants, and his commanders, and his captains, and rulers of his chariots and of his horsemen.

¹⁷ Solomon numbered all the foreigners who were in the land of Israel, after the numbering with which David his father had numbered them; and they were found one hundred fifty-three thousand six hundred. ¹⁸ He set seventy thousand of them to bear burdens, and eighty thousand who were stone cutters in the mountains, and three thousand six hundred overseers to set the people at work.

⁷ As for all the people who were left of the Hethites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, who were not of Israel; ⁸ of their descendants who were left after them in the land, whom the children of Israel did not destroy, of them Solomon conscripted for slave labor to this day. ⁹ But of the children of Israel, Solomon made no slaves for his work; but they were men of war, and his commanders, and his captains, and rulers of his chariots and of his horsemen.

⁹ All these were of costly stones, even of cut stone, according to measure, sawed with saws, inside and outside, even from the foundation to the coping, and so on the outside to the great court.

² David gave orders to gather together the foreigners who were in the land of Israel; and he set masons to cut worked stones to build God's house.

¹⁶ Therefore thus says the LORD, "Look, I am laying in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation, and the one who believes in him will not be put to shame.

¹¹ For no one can lay any other foundation than that which has been laid, which is Jesus Christ. ¹² But if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay, or straw;

⁶ Because it is contained in Scripture, "Look, I am laying in Zion a stone, a chosen precious cornerstone, and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame." ⁷ For you who believe therefore is the honor, but for those who do not believe, "The stone which the builders rejected, has become the chief cornerstone,"

¹⁴ The wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. ¹⁵ He who spoke with me had for a measure, a golden reed, to measure the city, its gates, and its wall. ¹⁶ The city lies foursquare, and its length is as great as its breadth. He measured the city with the reed, one thousand three hundred eighty miles. Its length, breadth, and height are equal. ¹⁷ Its wall is one hundred forty-four cubits, by human measurement, that is, of an angel. ¹⁸ The construction of its wall was jasper. The city was pure gold, like pure glass. ¹⁹ The foundations of the city's wall were adorned with all kinds of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, chalcedony; the fourth, emerald; ²⁰ the fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, topaz; the tenth, chrysoprasus; the eleventh, jacinth; and the twelfth, amethyst. ²¹ The twelve gates were twelve pearls. Each one of the gates was made of one pearl. The street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.

⁵ and the land of the Gebalites, and all Lebanon, toward the sunrise, from Baal Gad under Mount Hermon to Lebo Hamath;

⁷ Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek; Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre;

⁹ The old men of Gebal and the wise men of it were in you your repairers of ship seams: all the ships of the sea with their mariners were in you to deal in your merchandise.
