¹⁹ Then he took a loaf, and after thanking God he broke it and gave it to them, saying, "This means my body given up for your sake; do this in memory of me."

⁴ and all drank the same supernatural drink (drinking from the supernatural Rock which accompanied them — and that Rock was Christ),

¹⁶ The cup of blessing, which we bless, is that not participating in the blood of Christ? The bread we break, is that not participating in the body of Christ?

²³ I passed on to you what I received from the Lord himself, namely, that on the night he was betrayed the Lord Jesus took a loaf, ²⁴ and after thanking God he broke it, saying, 'This means my body broken for you; do this in memory of me.' ²⁵ In the same way he took the cup after supper, saying, 'This cup means the new covenant ratified by my blood; as often as you drink it, do it in memory of me.' ²⁶ For as often as you eat this loaf and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. ²⁷ Hence anyone who eats the loaf or drinks the cup of the Lord carelessly, will have to answer for a sin against the body and the blood of the Lord. ²⁸ Let a man test himself; then he can eat from the loaf and drink from the cup. ²⁹ For he who eats and drinks without a proper sense of the Body, eats and drinks to his own condemnation.

⁴ who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil world — by the will of our God and Father,

²⁵ for mount Sinai is away in Arabia. She corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for the latter is in servitude with her children.

² and lead lives of love, just as Christ loved you and gave himself up for you to be a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

¹⁸ thank God for everything — such is his will for you in Christ Jesus;

¹⁴ who gave himself up for us to redeem us from all iniquity and secure himself a clean people with a zest for good works.

²⁴ he bore our sins in his own body on the gibbet, that we might break with sin and live for righteousness; and by his wounds you have been healed.
