²⁶ Lykewyse the spirite also helpeth our infirmityes. For we knowe not what to desyre as we ought: but the spirite maketh intercession mightelye for vs wyth gronynges whiche can not be expressed with tonge.

³ My soule also is in great trouble, but lord how longe?

⁹ The Lord hath hearde myne humble petycyon, the Lorde hath receaued my prayer.

¹⁷ Lord, thou hearest the desyrous longing of the poore: theyr hert is sure, that thine eare herkeneth therto.

¹ To the chaunter, a monicion of the sonnes of Corah. Like as the hert desyreth the water brokes, so longeth my soule after the, O God. ² My soule is a thurste for God, yea euen for the lyuynge God: when shall I come, and behold the face of God? ³ My teares are my meate daye and nighte whyle it is daylye sayed vnto me: where is now thy God? ⁴ Now when I thincke ther vpon, I poure out my hert by my self: for I would faine go hence wyth the multytude and passe ouer wt them vnto the house of God, in the voyce of prayse and thankes geuynge, amonge suche as kepe holy daye. ⁵ Why art thou so full of heuynes, (O my soule) and why arte thou so vnquyet wythin me? O put thy trust in God, for I wyl yet geue him thankes, for the helpe of his countenance

¹ To the chaunter in Neginoth, an instruccion of Dauid. Heare my prayer, O God, and hyde not thy self fro my petycion. ² Take hede vnto me & heare me, how piteously I mourne and complayne.

³ I am weery of crying, my throte is drye, my sight fayleth me, for waytinge so longe, vpon my God.

O Lord God my sauiour, I cry day and nyghte before the: ² Oh let my praier enter into thy presence, incline thyne eare vnto my callynge. ³ For my soule is full of trouble, and my lyfe draweth nye vnto hell.

⁵ For the voyce of my gronynge, my bone wil scarse cleue to my flesh.

²⁰ That he maye heare the mournynges of such as be in captiuitie, and deliuer the chyldren of death.

⁸¹ Caph. My soule longeth for thy sauynge health, for my trust is in thy word, ⁸² Myne eyes long sore for thy word, saing: O when wylt thou comforte me?

⁴ Therefore is my sprete vexed within me, and my herte within me is desolate. ⁵ Yet do I remembre the times past, I muse vpon all thy workes, yea, I exercise my selfe in the workes of thy handes. ⁶ I stretche forthe myne handes vnto the, my soule cryeth vnto the oute of the thyrstye lande. Selah. ⁷ Heare me, O Lorde, & that soone, for my sprete waxeth faynte: hyde not thy face fro me, lest I be lyke vnto theym that go doune into the graue.

¹⁰ Moreouer, vpon the house of Dauid & vpon the cytesins of Ierusalem wil I poure oute the spirite of grace & prayer, so that they shal loke vpon me, whom they haue pearsed: & they shal bewepe him, as men mourne for their onely begotten sonne: yea & be sory for him, as men are sorye for their fyrst childe.

²⁰ For it is not ye that speake, but the sprete of your father which speaketh in you.

²² Iesus aunswered and sayde: Ye wotte not what ye are. Are ye able to drinke of the cup that I shall drynke of: and to be baptised with the baptisme that I shalbe baptised wt?

¹ And it fortuned as he was praiynge in a certayne place: when he ceased, one of hys discyples said vnto hym: Mayster, teache vs to praye, as Iohn taught his disciples. ² And he sayde vnto them: When ye pray saye: O oure father whiche arte in heauen, halowed be thy name. Thy kyngedome come. They will be fulfylled euen in earthe as it is in heauen. ³ Geue vs oure daylye breade euermore. ⁴ And forgeue vs oure synnes: For euen we forgeue euery man that trespasseth vs: And ledde vs not into temptacyon. But deliuer vs from euyll. ⁵ And he sayde vnto them: Yf any of you shoulde haue a frende, and shoulde go to hym at midnight, and saye vnto hym: frende lende me thre loues, ⁶ for a frende of myne is come out of the waye to me, and I haue nothinge to set before him: ⁷ and he within shoulde aunswere & saye: trouble me not, the dore is now shut, and my seruauntes are with me in the chamber, I cannot ryse, and geue them to the. ⁸ I saye vnto you, thoughe he woulde not arise and geue him, because he is hys frende: yet because of hys importunitie he wold ryse, and geue him as many as he neded. ⁹ And I saye vnto you: axe and it shalbe geuen you. Seke, and ye shal finde. Knocke, and it shalbe opened vnto you. ¹⁰ For euery one that axeth, receyueth: and he that seketh, findeth: & to hym that knocketh shall it be opened ¹¹ Yf the sonne shall axe bread of any of you that is a father, will he geue him a stone? Or yf he axe fishe, will he for a fishe geue hym a serpente? ¹² Or yf he axe an egge, wyl he offer hym a scorpion? ¹³ Yf ye then which are euill, can geue good gyftes vnto youre chyldren, howe much more shall the father of heauen geue an holy spirite to them that desyre it of hym?

⁴⁴ And he was in agonye, and praied some what longer. And his sweate was lyke droppes of bloude trycklinge doune to the grounde.

¹⁶ & I will praye the father, and he shal geue you another conforter, that he may byde with you euer

²⁴ O wretched man that I am: who shall deliuer me frome this bodye of deathe?

¹⁵ they are the sonnes of God. For ye haue not receiued the spirite of bondage to feare anye more: but ye haue receiued the spirite of adoption, where by we crye Abba father.

¹ We whiche are strong, ought to beare the fraylnes of them whiche are weake, and not to stande in our owne conceptes.

² And therfore syghe we, desyrynge to be clothed wyth oure mansyon which is from heauen

⁴ For as longe as we are in thys tabernacle, we syghe and are greued, for we woulde not be vnclothed, but woulde be clothed vpon, that mortalitye myghte be swalowed vp of lyfe.

⁵ Of thys man wyll I reioyce, of my selfe wyll I not reioyce, excepte it be of myne infyrmytyes. ⁶ And yet thoughe I woulde reioyce, I shoulde not be a fole: for I shoulde saye the trueth: Neuerthelesse I spare, lest anye man shoulde thynke of me aboue that he seeth me to be, or heareth of me. ⁷ And lest I shoulde be exalted out of measure thorowe the aboundaunce of reuelacions there was geuen vnto me vnquyetnes of the fleshe, the messenger of Satan to buffete me: because I shoulde no be exalted oute of measure. ⁸ For thys thynge besought I the Lorde thryse, that it myght departe from me. ⁹ And he sayde vnto me: my grace is suffycyent for the. For my strengthe is made perfecte thorowe weakenes. Very gladly therfor wil I reioyce of my weakenes, that the strength of Christe maye dwell in me ¹⁰ Therfore haue I delectacyon in infyrmities, in rebukes, in nede, in persecutions, in anguyshe, for Christes sake. For when I am weake, then am I stronge.

⁶ Because ye are sonnes, God hath sent the spyryte of hys sonne into our hertes, whiche cryeth Abba father.

¹⁸ For thorowe hym we both haue an open waye in, in one spyrite vnto the father.

¹⁸ And praye all wayes wyth all maner prayer and supplicacion: and that in the spirite, and watch therunto with all instaunce and supplication for all sainctes,

¹⁵ For we haue not an hye prieste, whiche can not haue compassion on our infirmities, but was in all pointes tempted, lyke as we are, but yet without sinne.

² whiche can haue compassion on the ignoraunt, and on them that are out of the waye, because that he him selfe also is compassed with infirmitie:

³ Ye axe and receyue not, because ye axe a mysse: euen to consume it vpon youre voluptuousnes

²⁰ But ye dearely beloued, edifye your selues in your moste holy faythe, praying in the holye ghost, ²¹ and kepe your selues in the loue of God, lokynge for the mercye of oure Lorde Iesus Christe, vnto eternall lyfe.
