⁷ What shall we saye then? Is the lawe synne? God forbid: but I knewe not what synne meante but by the law. For I had not knowne what luste had meant, except the lawe had sayed, thou shalte, not lust.

⁶ And the woman saw that it was a good tree to eate of, and lusty vnto the eies, & a pleasant tree forto geue vnderstandynge. And toke of the frute of it & ate, & gaue vnto her husband also wt her, & he ate.

¹⁷ Thou shalt not couet thy neighbours house neither shalt couet thy neighbours wyfe, his man seruaunt, his mayde, his oxe, his asse or oughte that is hys.

²¹ Thou shalte not luste after thy neyghbours wyfe: thou shalt not couet thy neyghbours house, feylde, seruaunte, mayde, oxe, asse nor ought that is thy neyghbours

²¹ I sawe amonge the spoyle a goodlye Babylonyshe garment, and two hundred sicles of syluer, and a tonge of golde of fyftye sicles weyghte: and I coueted them, and I toke them. And beholde they lye hydde in the earthe in my tente and the syluer there vnder.

² And it chaunged in an euenynge that Dauid arose from hys couche & walked vpon the roufe of the kynges palace, & from the roufe sawe a very bewtyfull woman washing her selfe.

¹ After these thynges were done, it chaunced that Naboth the Iezrahelite had a vyneyard in Iezrahel harde by the palace of Ahab kynge of Samaria. ² And Ahab spake vnto Naboth sayinge: let me haue thy vineyard, to make me a garden of yerbes therof, because it lieth so nye my house: and I will geue the a better vineyarde for it: or yf it playse the, I wyll geue the the worth of it in syluer. ³ But Naboth sayde to Ahab: the lord forbyd that from me, that I shoulde geue the enheritaunce of my fathers vnto the. ⁴ Then went Ahab vnto his house wayward and euyl apaide, because of the wordes which Naboth the Iezrahelite had spoken to hym saying. I will not geue to the the enheritaunce of my fathers. And he layde him doune vpon hys bed and turned awaye his face, & woulde eate no meate.

⁷ The lawe of the Lorde is a perfecte lawe it quickeneth the soule. The testimonye of the Lorde is true, and geueth wisdome euen vnto babes. ⁸ The statutes of the Lord are ryght, and reioyse the hert: the commaundement of the lord is pure, and geueth lyght vnto the eyes. ⁹ The feare of the Lorde is cleane, and endureth for euer: the iudgementes of the Lord are true and ryghtuous altogether. ¹⁰ More pleasaunt are they then golde, yea then much fyne golde: sweter then hony and the hony combe. ¹¹ These thy seruaunt kepeth, & for kepynge of them there is great reward. ¹² Who can tell, how oft he offendeth? Oh clense thou me fro my secrete fautes.

⁹⁶ I se that all thynges come to an ende, but thy commaundement is exeeadyng broade.

² When they couet to haue lande, they take it by vyolence, they robbe men of their houses. Thus they oppresse a man for his house, & euery man for hys heretage.

²⁸ But I saye vnto you, that whosoeuer loketh on a wife, lustinge after her, hath committed adulterye with her alredy in his herte

¹⁵ Wherfore, he sayde vnto them: take hede, and beware of coueteousnes. For no mannes lyfe standeth in the abundaunce of the thynges whiche he possesseth.

³³ I haue desyred no mans syluer, golde or vesture.

⁵ If our vnryghtuousnes make the ryghtuousnes of God more excellent: what shall we saye? Is God vnrightuous which taketh vengeaunce? I speake after the maner of men,

²⁰ because that by the dedes of the lawe, shall no fleshe be iustifyed in the syght of God. For by the lawe commeth the knoweledge of synne.

¹ What shall we saye then, that Abraham oure father as pertaynyng to the fleshe, dyd fynde?

¹⁵ Because the lawe causeth wrath. For where no lawe is, there is no transgressyon.

¹⁵ What then? Shall we synne, because we are not vnder the lawe: but vnder grace? God forbyd.

⁵ For when we were in the fleshe the lustes of synne whych were sterred vp by the law reygned in oure membres, to brynge forthe fruyte vnto deathe.

⁸ But synne toke an occasion by the meanes of the commaundement, and wrought in me al maner of concupiscence. For without the lawe, synne was dead.

¹¹ for synne toke occasion by the meanes of the commaundement and so disceyued me, and by the selfe commaundemente slewe me.

¹³ Was that then whiche is good, made death vnto me? God forbid. Naye, synne was death vnto me, that yt might appere, howe that synne by the meanes of that which is good, had wrought death in me: that sinne which is vnder the commaundemente, myghte be out of measure synfull.

⁹ For these commaundementes Thou shalte not commyt aduoutrye: Thou shalte not kyll: Thou shalt not steale: Thou shalte not beare false wytnesse: Thou shalte not desyre: and so forth (yf there be anye other commaundente) they are all comprehended in thys saiynge: Loue thyne neyghboure as thy selfe.

⁵⁶ The stinge of death is sinne: & the strength of sinne is the lawe.

³ So that fornicacion and vncleanes, or couetousnes be not ones named amonge you, as it becommeth sainctes:

⁵ Mortifie therfore, youre members whiche are on the earth, fornicacion, vnclenes, vnnatural, lust euil concupiscence, and couetousnesse, which is worshippinge of Idolles,

⁵ and not in the luste of concupiscence, as do the heathen, which know not God,

¹⁵ Se that ye loue not the world, neyther the thynges that are in the worlde. Yf anye man loue the worlde the loue of the father is not in him. ¹⁶ For all that is in the world (as the luste of the fleshe, the lust of the eyes, and the pryde of goodes) is not of the father, but of the world.
