¹⁸ For they that are such, serue not the Lorde Iesus Christ: but theyr owne bellyes, and with swete preachynges & flatterynge wordes deceyue the hertes of the innocentes.

¹² But the sonnes of Eli were vnthryftye chyldren, and knewe not the Lorde. ¹³ For the maner of the priestes wyth the people was whensoeuer any man offered any offerynges the priestes ladde came, whyle the fleshe was in sethynge, and a fleshoke wyth thre tethe in hys hande, ¹⁴ and thrust it into the panne, ketle, caldren, or potte. And all that the fleshe hoke broughte vp the prieste toke awaye. And so they dyd vnto all Israel that came thyther to Siloh. ¹⁵ Yea, & thereto before they had offered the fatte, the priestes lad came and sayde to the man that offered: geue fleshe to roste for the prieste, for he wyll not haue sodden fleshe of the, but rawe. ¹⁶ And yf any man sayd vnto hym let the fatte be offered accordynge to the daye, & then take as muche as thyne herte desireth. The lad wold aunswere him, thou shalt geue it me now, or els I wyl take it with violence. ¹⁷ And the synne of the young men was very great before the Lorde. For they dispysed the people and also the offerynge of the Lorde.

²⁹ Wherfore kycke ye agaynste my sacryfyce and agaynst myne offeryng which I commaunde in the tabernacle, and honoreste thy chyldren aboue me, and make your selues fat of the fyrste frutes of all the offerynges of Israel my people?

⁵ And the kynge of Israell gathered together of the Prophetes foure hundred men, & saide vnto them: shal we go to Ramoth in Galaad to fyght, or shall I cease? And they saide: go, the Lord shall delyuer it into the kinges hand.

¹² And the messenger that went to call Micheah, spake to him sayinge: beholde, the wordes of the Prophetes are pleasaunt to the king with one assent, let thy wordes I pray the, be lyke one of theirs, & speake that which is pleasaunt. ¹³ And Micheah sayde: as truly as the Lord lyueth, euen what my God sayeth, that wyl I speake. ¹⁴ And when he was come to the kynge, the kynge saide to him: Micheah, shal we go to Ramoth in Galaad to fyght, or shal I be in reste? And he answered go ye and prospere, for the lord shal deliuer it into your handes. ¹⁵ But the kyng sayd to him: how oftentymes shal I adiure the that thou say nothyng but truthe to me, in the name of the Lorde. ¹⁶ Then he sayd: I se al Israel skatered in the mountaines, as shepe that haue no shepard. And the Lorde sayde: these haue no mayster, let them returne euery man to his house in peace. ¹⁷ Then sayde the kinge of Israel to Iehosaphat: dyd I not tel the, that he would not prophecye good vnto me, but euyll?

⁷ The lawe of the Lorde is a perfecte lawe it quickeneth the soule. The testimonye of the Lorde is true, and geueth wisdome euen vnto babes.

¹³⁰ When thy woorde goeth forthe, it geueth light & vnderstandyng, euen vnto babes.

⁵ Take hede vnto knowlege O ye ignoraunt, be wyse in hert O ye foles.

¹⁵ An ignoraunt boddy beleueth all thynges, but who so hath vnderstandyng, loketh well to his goinges.

³ A wise man seith the plage and hideth him self, but the folysh go on styl and are punished.

¹⁰ They darre saye to the Prophetes: Intromytte youre selues with nothynge, and vnto the Sothsayers: tell vs of nothynge for to come, but speake frendlye wordes vnto vs, & preache vs false thinges. ¹¹ Treade oute of the waye, go out of the path, turne the holye one of Israel from vs.

¹⁰ For hys watch men are al blind, they haue altogether no vnderstandyng, they are al domme dogges, not beyng able to barcke, they are slepery: slogish are they, & lye snortynge: ¹¹ they are shamelesse dogges, that be neuer satisfyed. The sheperdes also in lyke maner haue no vnderstanding but euery man turneth his owne way, euery one after his owne couetousnes with all hys power. ¹² Come (saye they) I wil fetche wyne, so shall we fyll oure selues, that we maye be droncken. And to morowe, lyke as to daye, yea and much more.

¹⁰ Wherfore I will geue their wyues vnto aleauntes, and their feldes to destroyers. For from the loweste vnto the hyeste, they folowe all fylthy lucre: & from the Prophete vnto the prieste, they deale al with lyes. ¹¹ Neuertheles, they heale the hurte of my people with swete wordes, saying: peace, peace wher there is no peace at all.

¹⁷ They saye vnto them, that despyse me: The Lorde hath spoken it: Tush, ye shall prospere ryght well. And vnto all them, that walcke after the luste of their owne herte, they saye: Tushe, there shall no misfortune happen you.

¹ And thys was done in the same yeare: euen in the begynnynge of the raygne of Zedekiah kynge of Iuda. Bvt in the fourthe yeare of the raygne of Zedekiah kyng of Iuda, in the fyfth moneth, It happened, that Hananiah the sonne of Assur the Prophet of Gabaon, spake to me in the house of the Lord, in the presence of the priestes & of al the people, & sayd. ² Thus sayeth the Lorde of Hostes the God of Israel: I haue broken the yocke of the kynge of Babilon, ³ and after two yeare wyll I bryng againe into thys place, all the ornamentes of the Lordes house, that Nabuchodonosor kynge of Babylon caryed awaye from thys place vnto Babylon. ⁴ Yea, I wyll brynge agayne Iechoniah the sonne of Iehoakim the kynge of Iuda hym selfe, with all the prysonners of Iuda (that are caryed vnto Babylon) euen into this place sayeth the Lorde, for I wyll breake the yoeke of the kynge of Babylon. ⁵ Then the Prophet Ieremye gaue aunswere vnto the Prophete Hananiah, before the prestes and before all the people that were presente in the house of the Lorde. ⁶ And the Prophet Ieremye sayd: Amen: the Lord do that, & graunt the thynge, whiche thou hast prophecyed: that he maye brynge agayne all the ornamentes of the Lordes house, and restore all the presonners from Babylon into the place. ⁷ Neuertheles, herken thou also, what I wyll saye, that thou and all the people maye heare: ⁸ The Prophetes that were before vs in tymes paste, whiche prophecyed of warre, or trouble, or pestilence, ⁹ eyther of peace, vpon many nacyons and greate kyngedomes, were proued by this (yf God had sende them in very dede) when the thynge came to passe, whiche that Prophete tolde before.

¹⁵ Then sayde the Prophete Ieremye vnto the prophet Hananiah: Heare me (I praye the) Hananiah: The Lorde hath not sent the, but thou bringest this people into a false belefe. ¹⁶ And therfore thus sayth the Lorde: beholde, I wyll sende the out of the land, & within a year thou shalte dye because thou haste falsely spoken agaynste the Lord. ¹⁷ So Hananiah the Prophete dyed the same yeare in the seuenth moneth.

¹⁶ These are the Prophetes of Israel, whiche prophecye vnto the cytye of Ierusalem, and loke oute vysyons of peace for them, where as no peace is, sayeth the Lorde God.

¹⁹ and dishonoure me to my people, for an handfull of barleye, and for a pece of breade: when ye kyll the soules of them, that dye not, & promes lyfe to them, that lyue not: Thus ye dyssemble with my people, that beleueth youre lyes.

⁸ They eat vp the synnes of my people, and corage them in their wyckednesse. ⁹ Thus the prest is become lyke the people. Wherefore I wil punysh them for their wicked wayes & rewarde them accordinge to their owne ymagynacions. ¹⁰ They shall eate and not haue ynoughe: They haue vsed whordome, therfore shall they not prospere, and why? they haue forsaken the Lorde, and not regarded hym. ¹¹ Whordome, wine and drockennesse take the herte away.

⁵ And as concernynge the prophetes that disceyue my people, thus the Lorde sayeth agaynst them: When they haue enye thynge to byte vpon, then they preach that all shalbe well: but yf a man put not some thynge is to their mouthes, they preach of warre agaynst hym.

¹⁰ Yea, what is he amonge you, that wyll do so muche as to shut the dores, or to kindle the fire vpon myne aulter for naught? I haue no pleasure in you, sayeth the Lord of hostes: and as for the meatofferynge, I will not accepte it at your hande.

²⁴ No man can serue two maysters. For eyther he shall hate the one & loue the other: yea or eles he shall leane to the one & dispise the other. Ye cannot serue God & Mammon.

¹⁵ Beware of false Prophetes, whiche come to you in shepes clothing, but inwardly they are rauenynge wolues.

¹¹ And manye false prophetes shall aryse, and shall deceyue manye.

²⁴ For there shall aryse false Christes, and false prophetes, and shall do great myracles and wonders. In so much that if it were possyble the very electe should be deceiued.

⁴⁸ But and if that euyll seruaunt shall saye in his herte, my maister wyll defer hys commynge, ⁴⁹ and begynne to smyte his felowes, yea, and to eate and to drinke with the dronken: ⁵⁰ that seruauntes maister wyll come in a daye when he loketh not for him, and in an houre that he is not ware of, ⁵¹ and wyll deuide hym, and geue him his rewarde with hipocrites. There shalbe weping and gnashing of tethe.

²⁶ If any man minister vnto me, let hym folowe me, and where I am, there shal also my minister be. And yf any man minister vnto me, hym wyll my father honoure.

¹⁹ For youre obedience extendeth to all men I am glad no doubte of you. But yet I woulde haue you wyse vnto that whiche is good, and to be innocent as concernyng euill.

¹⁷ For we are not as many are which choppe & chaunge with the worde of god: but euen out of purenes, and by the power of God, and in the syghte of God, so speake we in Christe.

² but haue caste from vs the clokes of vnhonestye, and walke not in craftynes, neyther corrupte we the word of God: but walke in open trueth, & reporte our selues to euerye mans conscience in the syght of God.

³ But I feare leste as the serpente begyled Eue thorowe hys suttelty, euen so youre wyttes shoulde be corrupte from the synglenes that is in Christe.

¹³ For these false Apostles are disceytfull workers, and fashyon them selues lyke vnto the Apostles of Christe. ¹⁴ And no maruail for Satan hym selfe is chaunged into the fashyon of an angell of lyghte. ¹⁵ Therfore it is no greate thynge, thoughe hys mynysters fashyon them selues as thoughe they were the mynisters of rightuousnes, whose end shalbe accordynge to theyr dedes.

¹⁰ Preache I mans doctryne or Goddes? Eyther go I aboute to please men? Yf I studyed to please men, I were not the seruauat of Christe.

²¹ For al other seke theyr owne, and not that whiche is Iesus Christes.

¹⁹ whose ende is dampnation, whose God is theyr belye, and whose glorye is to theyr shame, whiche are worldlye minded.

⁴ This I saye leaste anye man shoulde begyle you with entisyng wordes.

²⁴ for as muche as ye know that of the Lorde ye shall receiue the reward of inheritaunce, for ye serue the Lorde Christ.

¹⁰ and in all deceyuablenes of vnryghtuousnes, amonge them that peryshe: because they receyued not the loue of the truethe, that they myght haue bene sayed.

⁵ and vayne disputacyons of men wyth corrupte myndes, and destytute of the trueth, whiche thynke that lucre is Godlines, from suche separate thy self.

¹⁶ Vnghostly and vayne voices passe ouer. For they shall encreace vnto greater vngodlynes, ¹⁷ and theyr wordes shall frete euen as doeth a cancre: of whose number is Himeneos & Phyletos: ¹⁸ which as concernyng the truethe haue erred, saiynge that the resurreccyon is past alredy, and do destroye the fayth of diuers persons.

² For the men shall be louers of theyr owne selues coueteous, bosters, proude, cursed speakers, dysobedyent to father and mother, vnthankefull, vnholye, ³ vnkynde, truce breakers, stubborne false accusars, ryatours, fierce despysers of them whiche are good, ⁴ traytours, headye, hye mynded, gredy vpon voluptuousnes more then the louers of God, ⁵ hauynge a simylytude of Godly lyuynge, but haue denyed the power thereof: and suche abhorre. ⁶ Of thys sorte are they which enter into houses, & bring into bondage women laden wyth synne which women are lede of dyuers lustes,

¹⁰ For there are many dysobedyent: & talkers of vanitye and disceyuers of myndes, namely they of the circumcision, ¹¹ whose mouthes must be stopped: whiche peruerte whole houses teachynge thynges whiche they oughte not because of fylthy lucre. ¹² One beyng of them selues, which was a poete of theyr owne, said: The Cretians are alwayes lyars, euil beastes and slowe belyes.

¹ Iames the seruaunte of God and of the Lorde Iesus Christ sendeth gretyng to the twelue trybes whiche are scattered here and there.

³ and thorowe couetousnes shal they wyth fayned wordes make marchaundyse of you, whose iudgement is not farre of, and theyr dampnacion slepeth not.

¹⁰ namely them that walke after the fleshe in the luste of vncleanes, and despyse the rulars. Presumpteous are they, & stubborne and feare not to speake euyl of them that are in authoritie. ¹¹ When the angels which are greater both in power and might, receiue not of the Lorde railing iudgement agaynste them. ¹² But these as brute beastes naturallye made to be taken and destroyed, speake euyll of that they knowe not, and shal perishe thorow their owne destruccion, ¹³ and receiue the reward of vnrightuousnes. They count it pleasure to lyue deliciously for a season. Spottes they are and filthines, liuinge at pleasure, and in disceiueable waies feastinge with you, ¹⁴ hauinge eyes full of aduoutrye, and that can not cease to synne, begilinge vnstable soules. Hertes they haue exercised with couetousues. They are cursed children, ¹⁵ and haue forsaken the ryght waye, and are gone astray folowing the waye of Balam the sonne of Bosor, whiche loued the rewarde of vnrightuousnes,

¹⁸ For when they haue spoken the swellinge wordes of vanitie, they begyle with wantonnes thorowe the lustes of the fleshe, them that were cleane escaped, but nowe are wrapped in errours. ¹⁹ They promis them libertie, and are them selues the bonde seruauntes of corrupcyon. For of whomsoeuer a man is ouer come, vnto the same is he in bondage. ²⁰ For yf they, after they haue escaped from the fylthines of the worlde thorowe the knowledge yf the Lord and of the sauiour Iesus Christe, are yet tangled agayne therin and ouercome, then is the latter ende worsse wyth them then the beginninge.

¹ Ye beloued, beleue not euery spirite, but proue the spirites whether they be of God, or not, for manye false prophetes are gone out into the world. ² Hereby shall ye knowe the spyryte of God. Euerye spyrite that confesseth that Iesus Christe is come in the fleshe, is of God. ³ And euerye spyryte that confesseth not that Iesu Christe is come in the fleshe, is not of God. And this is that spyrite of Antechrist, of whom ye haue hearde, how that he shoulde come, and euen nowe alreadye is he in the worlde.

¹ Iudas the seruaunte of Iesus Christ, the brother of Iames. To them whyche are called & sanctyfied in God the father, and preserued in Iesu Christe.

¹² These are spottes which of youre kyndnes feast together, wythoute feare, fedyng themselues. Cloudes they are wythout water, caryed aboute of wyndes, and trees wythout frute at gatherynge tyme, twyse dead & plucked vp by rotes.

¹⁶ These are murmurers, complayners, walkyng after theyr owne iustes, whose mouthes speake proud thinges. They haue men in great reuerence because of vauntage.

¹ The Reuelacyon of Iesus Christe which God gaue vnto hym, for to shew vnto his seruauntes thinges whiche muste shortely come to passe. And he sent and shewed by hys angel vnto hys seruaunt Iohn
