⁴ They that forsake the lawe, prayse the vngodly: but such as kepe the law abhorre them.

¹⁴ And Samuel aunswered: what meaneth then the bleatynge of the shepe in myne eares, & the noyse of the oxen whiche I heare? ¹⁵ And Saule sayde: they haue broughte them from the Amaleckytes. For the people spared the best of the shepe and of the oxen, to sacrifyce vnto the Lorde thy God. And the remnaunt we haue destroyed. ¹⁶ But Samuel sayde to Saul: cease and let me tell the what the Lorde hath sayde to me thys nyght. And he sayde vnto him: saye on. ¹⁷ And Samuel sayde when thou waste lytle in thyne owne sighte, wast thou not made the head of the trybes of Israell? And the Lorde anoynted the Kynge ouer Israel. ¹⁸ And then the Lord sent the on a iourneye, & sayde vnto the, se that thou vtterlye destroye those synners, the Amaleckites & fyght agaynste them vntil ye haue vtterlye destroyed them. ¹⁹ And wherfore hast thou now not obeyed the voyce of the Lorde. But dydest turne to the praye & haste wrought wickednesse in the sight of the Lord? ²⁰ And Saule sayde vnto Samuel: I haue obeyed the voyce of the Lorde, and wente the waye which the Lord sent me, & haue brought Agag the Kynge of the Amaleckites. And haue vtterlye destroyed the Amaleckites. ²¹ And the people toke of the spoyle, shepe, oxen, and the chiefest of the thynges which shulde haue ben destroyed, to offer vnto the Lorde thy God in Galgal. ²² Then sayde Samuel: hath the Lorde as great pleasure in burnt sacryfyces & offerynges, as he hath that thou shouldest obeye hys voyce? Beholde, to obeye is better then offeryng, and to geue heade is better then the fat of rammes. ²³ For rebellyousnesse is as the synne of witchcrafte, & stoburnesse is wyckednesse and Idolatrye. Because therfore thou hast cast awaye the worde of the Lorde, therfore hath the Lorde caste awaye the also, from beynge Kynge. ²⁴ Then sayde Saul to Samuel: I haue sinned, for I haue trespaced the mouthe of the Lorde, and thy wordes, because I feared the people and obeyed theyr voyce.

¹⁴ And Ahymelech answered the kynge & sayde: who is so faythfull amonge all thy seruauntes as Dauid & therto the kinges sonne in lawe, and goeth at thy bidding, and is had in honoure in thyne house? ¹⁵ haue I thys daye begonne fyrst to aske councel of God for him? God forbyd that from me: let not the kynge put suche a thinge vnto hys seruaunt and on all the house of my father. For thy seruaunt knoweth nothinge of all thys, ether lesse or more.

¹⁹ Then came the Ziphites to Saul, to Gabaah sayinge: Dauid hydeth hym selfe fast by vs in stronge holdes that are in a thycket in the hyl of Hachilah on the ryght syde of the wyldernesse. ²⁰ Now therfore syr kynge, come downe wyth all the lust that thy soule hath to come. ²¹ And Eliah came vnto all the people and sayde: why halte ye betwene two opinions? Yf the Lorde be very God, folowe him: or yf Baal be he, then folowe hym. And the people answered him not one worde.

⁴¹ And he hasted and toke the ashes away from his eyes, and the kinge of Israel knewe hym, that he was of the Prophetes. ⁴² And he sayde vnto the kinge: thus sayeth the Lorde: because thou hast let go a man, that ought to haue dyed, thy lyfe shal go for his lyfe, and thy people for hys.

¹⁹ And saye vnto him: thus saith the Lorde, thou hast killed & therto gotten possession. And saie moreouer vnto him, thus sayth the lord: in the place where dogges lapped the bloude of Naboth, shall dogges lappe euen thy bloude also. ²⁰ And Ahab sayd to Eliah: hast thou founde me thine enemy at any time? and he saide: ye, because thou art vtterly geuen to worcke wyckednesse in the syghte of the lord.

¹³ And Elizeus sayde to the kynge of Israel: what haue I to do with the? Get the to the prophetes of thy father and of thy mother. ⁸ and it greued me sore, and I cast forthe all the vessels of the house of Tobiah out of the chest, ⁹ and commaunded them to clense the cheste. And thyther broughte I agayn the vessels of the house of God, the meateofferynge and the incense. ¹⁰ And I perceyued, that the porcyons of the Leuites were not geuen them, for the whiche cause the Leuytes & syngers were fled, euerye one to hys lande for to worke. ¹¹ Then reproued I the rulers, and sayde: why forsake we the house of God. But I gathered them together & set them in theyr place.

¹⁵ At the same tyme sawe I some tredynge wynepresses on the Saboth, and bryngynge in clusters, and asses laden wyth wyne, grapes, fygges, and bryngynge al maner of burthens vnto Ierusalem, vpon the Saboth day. And I rebuked them earnestlye the same daye that they solde the vytayles.

¹⁷ Then reproued I the rulers in Iuda, and sayd vnto them: what euyll thynge is thys that ye do, & breake the Saboth day? ¹⁸ Dyd not our fathers euen thus, and oure GOD brought all thys plage vpon vs & vpon thys cytye? And ye make the wrathe more yet vpon Israel, in that ye breake the Saboth. ¹⁹ And it fortuned, that when the porters of Ierusalem made shadowe before the Saboth, I commaunded to shut the gathes, & charged, that they shulde not be opened tyl after the Saboth & some of my seruauntes set I at the gates, that here shulde no burthen be broughte in on the Saboth daye. ²⁰ Then remayned the chapmen and marchauntes ones or twyce ouer nyghte wythoute Ierusalem wyth all maner of wares.

²³ And at the same tyme sawe I Iewes, that maryed wyues of Asdod, Ammon & of Moab, ²⁴ and theyr chyldren spake halfe in the speache of Asdod, and could not speake in the Iewes language, but by the tonge myghte a man perceyue euerye people. ²⁵ And I reproued them, & cursed them, and smote certaine men of them, and pluckte them vp, and toke an othe of them by God: Ye shall not gene youre doughters vnto theyr sonnes, neyther shal ye take theyr doughters vnto youre sonnes, or for your selues. ²⁶ Dyd not Salomon the king of Israel synne there in? & yet among many Heythen was there no kynge lyke hym, and he was deare vnto hys God, and God made hym kynge ouer al Israel, and yet neuertheles outlandyshe wemen caused hym to synne?

²⁸ And one of the chyldren of Iehoiada the sonne of Eliasib the hye prieste, had made a contracte wyth Sanabalat the Horonite: but I chaced him from me.

³ For the vngodly maketh bost of his owne hertes desyre, the couetous blesseth him selfe and blasphemeth the Lorde.

¹⁸ Whyle he lyueth, he is counted an happy man: and so long as he is in prosperitie, men speake good of hym.

³⁰ Horryble and greuous thinges are done in the lande.

⁷ When he sawe many of the Phariseis & of the Saduces come to his baptisme, he sayd vnto them: O generacion of vipers, who hath taught you to fle from the vengaunce to come?

¹⁵ Iesus answered and sayd to hym: Let it be so nowe. For thus it becometh vs to fulfyll al righteousnes. Then he suffred him.

¹¹ and haue no fellowshyp wyth the vnfruitfull workes of darckenes: but rather rebuke them.

² but euen after that we had suffred before, and were shamefullye entreated at Philippos (as ye wel know) then were we bolde in our God to speake vnto you the Gospel of God wyth muche stryuynge.

⁵ They are of the world, & therfore speake they of the world, and the world heareth them.

³ Beloued, when I gaue all dylygence to wryte vnto you of the commen saluacyon: it was nedefull for me to wryte vnto you, to exhorte you, that ye should contynuallye labour in the faythe whiche was ones geuen vnto the saynctes.
